I like this book ever since I have been looking into djing. I've been looking into dj for long time also searching google and YouTube. This book is filled own basic tips how to get started and how old school dj where made. This book expresses a lot of dj sort of like an art. It has a wide variety of tips on what to do and tricks to get started. This thing still fuels me into learning more about dj. I love music and I hope soon will get my dj equipment as a starter lol. I learned some things about dj turntables and things I didn't know about djing. This book is good I'm looking forward to getting equipment next.

This book delivered in ways I wasn't expecting. I purchased this for the more technical portions of the book, and while still relevant, the content is very dated (published in 2002) in regards to digital formats, and promoting one's self on the internet.The portions of book dedicated to DJ technique were strong, but I felt like alot of the information contained there was vague. How exactly do you write about combining music in a way that empowers it? It all comes down to personal taste. And experience, developing an ear for what sounds right. Pictures of different scratch techniques won't mean much without knowing the sounds you're going for. And pictures of beat matching won't make any sense unless you've sequenced beats before. I've done all these things before so it worked out for me.The real value in this book was about the DJ culture. Where to find gigs, how to know your audience, how to read a room. The differences between warming up a crowd and playing peak hours. These chapters were real gems, indispensible wisdom for people like myself without friends in the business. I felt like it was worth the price of admission for just these chapters.The only thing I would ask for would be more chapters dedicated to different musical styles, and mixing them. It felt like a gaping hole in the book.

Some of the technology in this book seems a bit dated (I may be wrong since I am just getting started). Overall it breaks down techniques and strategies like I'm a 5 year old which I love. 90% of what is in this book is still very relevant and the other 10% can easily be translated to today's technology (since most of the modern controllers try to mimic the use of vinyl). A must have for a DJ looking to improve.

I've been using an all-in-one controller and wanted to get into a more physical DJ experience. Everyone i have interacted with recommended this book, so I bit the bullet and picked it up.The authors of the book talked as if my friend was teaching me how to DJ. They stress how DJ'ing is about self expression, not a cut & paste operation. Even better, they teach multiple different techniques on how to make the music your own.Last tid-bit, each section has blips of other DJs and their views on the industry!

Having been a professional nightclub DJ for close to 30 years, I approached this book with a certain amount of trepidation and a lot of pre-judgements. I thought, "Surely this would be just another DJ 101 handbook with only half the facts and the authors just trying to make a quick buck!"I was wrong! First to anyone who is new to DJing, get a copy of "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life," the definitive book on DJ history which gives you the real, true story on where all of this came from. Then start from the beginning. It does a wonderful job of explaining the individual techniques and skills needed to DJ effectively without ever being condescending or giving you the feeling of being dumbed down. Some may say they can find all of this information on the Net, but take it from me, you can't because there is so much MIS-information on the Net. It certainly helps that the authors are DJs themselves and know what they are talking about. And I have to admit, even I learned something after all these years.My only concern with the book is that it definitely has a UK flavor to it. While the authors show a vast depth of understanding of the music industry at large, it would be nice if they spent a little more time in the USA where all of this started. I didn't even find one mention of the record pool system (an invaluable resource for getting promos) and with a book with this much information, I was totally surprised that there was no index at the end. It would be nice to go back and find individual bits of information easier. A great read, a pleasant surprise. And the book is dedicated to 2 of the men who started it all...that's a class act!

This publication is a bit dated, i.e. back to the early days of DJing with records; but it is history well worth reading, esp. if you have read: Hank Bordowitz "Dirty Little Secrets of the Record Business"! Read Hank's book first then "How to DJ Right" and it will be reading well worth your time! It is full of helpful ideas that will help one move into and succeed in the business of DJing, but include little or no modern information on using DJ Controllers like Neumark, Traktor, or Pioneer. A great appendix with a great example of a DJ contract to perform both in the US and Europe and excellent "fatherly" advise!!!

For those who do not understand their calling to minister to the Lord in worship so that the body is blessed, this will be of help and a service.

About the Author

Vincent Zimmer is a Principal Engineer in the Software and Services Group at Intel Corporation. With over 22 years experience in embedded software development and design, Vincent holds nearly 300 U.S. patents and was awarded two Intel Achievement Awards for his development of firmware architecture and security. He has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, and a Master of Science in Computer Science degree from the University of Washington, Seattle.

Jiming Sun is a firmware and BIOS industry veteran who started to write RTOS kernel code (pSOS) for Bell Labs in 1986. After a change in career paths from telecom to PCs, he was involved in early laptop PC evolution, and was among the first batch of firmware engineers to implement System Management Mode code for 386SL in early 1990s. After joining Intel in 1993, Jiming did early APM (Advanced Power Management) and ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) implementation, which was passed to Microsoft to include in the Windows OS. Jiming is one of the creators of Tiano, which turned into UEFI, at Intel, and he is the major contributor of AMD’s AGESA (AMD Generic and Encapsulated Software Architecture). Besides his on-and-off ten-plus years of experience with Intel, Jiming has worked for Bell Labs, Zenith Data Systems, HP (Compaq), Insyde Software, AMD, Dell, and Apple. Jiming recently grand-fathered Intel® Firmware Support Package (FSP) and was instrumental in launching the product in October of 2010; now Intel® FSP is a standard firmware solution offered by Intel’s IoT Solutions Group to support Atom™ and Core™ microprocessors. Jiming has Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering and Management of Science and Technology, and he has 19 US patents. He currently lives in the Bay Area, California with his wife and two sons.

Marc is an accomplished firmware developer with over 18 years' experience in x86 embedded systems development. Marc has been a vital, active member of the coreboot community since 2007. As a lead firmware developer at Sage Electronic Engineering, his most recent focus has been on Intel FSP coreboot integration, Google Chromebook development, and AMD embedded APU solutions.

Marc got started with coreboot as the lead developer and coreboot project liaison at AMD. As a senior software engineer, he developed coreboot source code for the AMD Barcelona Family10 processor, AMD Geode processor, and AMD CS5536 chipset. In addition he contributed to the development of support for the AMD RS690 and SB600 chipsets along with reference mainboards. Prior to coreboot, Marc was one of the primary architects of the AMD GeodeROM BIOS, the basis of most Geode systems. He has also developed firmware and BIOS for Cyrix and National Semiconductor.

Marc has been a proponent of open source development for years and has written papers and blog posts that spotlight its merits. He has presented coreboot at the Southern California Linux Expo (SCaLE) 2013, 2012, 2010, the Free Software Foundation (FSF) Libre Planet 2009, the

2008 High Performance Computer Science Week Conference, and the 2007 Ottawa Linux Symposium. For the past five years, Marc has been the coreboot administrator and a mentor for Google Summer of Code, which provides students summer internships with open source software projects.

Stefan Reinauer is a Staff Engineer in the ChromeOS Group at Google Inc. He has been working on Open Source firmware solutions ever since he started the OpenBIOS project in 1997.

He joined the LinuxBIOS project in 1999 and worked on the first x64 port for LinuxBIOS back in 2003. In 2005 Stefan founded coresystems GmbH, the first company to ever provide commercial support and development around the coreboot project, working on ports to new chipsets and mainboards. In 2008 Stefan took over maintainership of the LinuxBIOS project and renamed it to coreboot. He was the original implementer of the project's ACPI and SMM implementations.

Since 2010 Stefan is leading the coreboot efforts at Google and contributed significantly to what is the largest coreboot deployment in the history of the project.

He currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.

About the Author

I am new to life coaching, only if you go by the official title of an Executive Professional Life Coach. However, the concept is something I am quite familiar with, having been involved in ministry work for over 25 years, serving as a youth minister, missionary, and senior pastor, I have had several opportunities to provide various forms of coaching in differing life situations. Tony's book, Coaching Questions, would have been a valuable resource to have had in my library back then, and is one that I am glad to have the opportunity to add to it now. The information presented is timely, practical, and the format allows one to navigate the content with ease. The book is divided into six sections, each providing valuable tools, tip and hints, and exercises to practice. In section one, Tony covers the ground work of getting started and lay out solid reasoning for the importance of asking the right questions. In section two the coaching process is covered and expounded upon with many practical tips and exercises. Section three focuses on life coaching and destiny discovery with questions designed to help the client get a clear picture of who they are and what their life's purpose is. Section four is where the author brings together the first three sections and gives the reader a picture of coaching in action. Advanced asking skills are covered in section five. Section six closes out the book looking at the different niche areas and some specific coaching strategies for each one. Asking the right questions is at the heart of any good coaching session, and in Coaching Questions, Tony provides you with the tools to do just that. If you want to take your coaching to the next level and help your clientele discover the resources they need to become more successful in eight areas of their life ( work, money, living environment, personal growth, health and recreation, community, family, and spirituality), I would recommend adding this book to your library.

It is smart, comprehensive yet to the point, and intuitively makes sense as well. Itâ€™s the kind of book you can pick up and at any point find something of value.

This book is so complete I can't beleive the author said it was ment to be a quick guide.It could perfectly be the textbook of the 11-months training I'm taking right now, i've been reading the chapters and it's keeping me ahead of the class.Some of the introduction questions are so good I use them as a start up in consulting, teaching and coaching as well.Such a good product, totally recommendable, and a "must" for a coach's library.

I really enjoy using this book in my coaching and training business. I like the layout of the paperback book and the tons of questions that can be adapted to any coaching subject area. It is evident that the author has experience in coaching and I love that I have access to such a powerful resource to add to my library. As a coach it is important to differentiate between asking and telling. This book presents great methods for listening and asking to enhance your coaching skills and your client's overall experience. I would highly recommend this as an added resource for anyone interested in coaching or anyone who is currently coaching. The book arrived as scheduled and I have no cons related to this purchase.

My reading: this is a book about extraordinary people that all Griffin books bring to light.It follows the life of The Honorable Ivor Goldsmid Samuel Montagu, the third son of the 2nd Baron Swaythling, one of the richest man in England. He is the only British aristocrat to receive the Lenin Prize (the communist equivalent to Nobel Prize) for Peace. He created the game of Table Tennis, which he leveraged in communist China, and he was an agent for the Soviet secret service called GRU.Marcel Proust wrote "the people from bygone ages seem infinitely remote from us. We look at them as animals in a zoo."We can see a photograph of Ivor Montagu. He looks remote, other worldly as if he was a character in the Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris coming back from the 1920s every day at midnight. A British movie web site describes Ivor as a "producer, writer and director. Communist, aristocrat, son of the banker Lord Swaythling, the Hon. Ivor Montagu was a leading fixture in left-wing film activity in the 1930s."In Griffin's book, Ivor Montagu comes out of the metaphoric Proustian zoo of the past. Ivor brother, Ewen, was "a rugby player obsessed with breeding cows... good at pretty everything." But Ivor himself "had the desire, but not the talent to be involved." There was only one game he could play, table tennis. Ping Pong was a Cinderella of the sports blossoming around 1904 in Britain. Quoting Griffin:"Ninety years ago, Montagu revived a sport that really did fit the best and worst of Communism. It was suited for airless, cramped factories, it was humanistic and competitive, it kept the brain engaged and exercised as much as the body. Table tennis became, as Montagu wrote, "a weapon for peace."He married Eileen Hellstern. "She was known to all as Hell. From his parents' perspective, Montagu couldn't have made a worse choice. Hell was a divorced mother of one, the daughter of a maker of surgical shoes. Her mother had been institutionalized shortly after her father's death."For Ivor's father, Lord Swaythling, Montagu's marriage was "an irredeemable calamity.". He changed his will, and the Queen send a note to Ivor's mother: "Gladys I feel for you. May."The newlyweds "made the front pages of all the London papers. For a week, they were on the run from the press, using makeup and a wardrobe department borrowed from Montagu's film contacts."As many times before and after Ivor Montagu marriage, both parents and society proved to be wrong. Their marriage lasted a lifetime. Ivor and Hell died within two week from each other fifty years later.Ivor was a member of the British Communist party and an agent of the Comintern. Shielded by his privileged status, he could afford to be a spy.In any other country in the world, including US - particularly during McCarthy era - Ivor would have been persecuted. But not in Britain. Ivor was not a criminal.Leon Trotsky, one of the fathers of the revolution and founder of the Red Army, had faced off against Stalin for control of Soviet Russia and lost. "Trotsky was protected twenty-four hours a day in exile by Turkish police officers.Trotsky lived in constant fear of assassination by Stalin, yet Ivor Montagu, a secret Stalinist at the beck and call of the Kremlin, was staying in his house. Trotsky ended their late evening by passing Montagu a loaded revolver and telling him to put it under his pillow. Montagu was many things, but not a killer. He barely slept, "terrified that the gun would go off."Trotsky fear was real. He will be assassinated with an ice pick in Mexico a few years later. In "Ping Pong Diplomacy", Griffin peels back the proverbial onion to provide deeper historical context behind the rise of ping pong across the world, driven by an enterprising and wealthy upper class Brit, Ivor Montagu, and in particular in China. As the Chinese communists embrace the sport and see sport through the lens of politics, it ultimately plays a pivotal part in restoring diplomatic relations between US and China through Nixon's historic visit 1972. While the writing could be a little uneven at times, this was an interesting read with great context on the intersection of table tennis, politics and East meets West.

Ping Pong Diplomacy was a very interesting read. All I knew about the term beforehand was that something happened with Ping Pong a few years before I was born and then Nixon went to China and soon China will own the US. Surprisingly, the history of modern Ping Pong is far more interesting than I would have thought. And this book gives an excellent incredibly succinct recap of 20th century Chinese history. However, I found that it got a little too ambitious in the last section - too many names, not enough of the gripping details that made up the first three-quarters of the book. Still, a good pop-history read.

This book was a very entertaining, enlightening read about what might seem to be a very small part of history.Rather than be a book simply on the exchange of Ping Pong players between China and the US in the early 1970s, Nicholas Griffin paints a fascinating picture of the background to Ping Pong in the PRC.This picture takes the reader on an entertaining journey through both World Wars, the cold war, and around the world during a fascinating time in history. The journey is well written by the author, and I recommend this book to anyone with an interest in modern history, Chinese history, or a great non fiction read.

This is an excellent book. As a former reporter in China, I am really impressed with how the writer obtained interviews with many of the Chinese involved in the epochal ping-pong diplomacy with the US and weaved their stories into what is truly a riveting read. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for an out-of-the-ordinary way into a deeper understanding of the ties that bind America and China together. And what's not to like about hippies in purple tie-dyed bell bottoms hanging out with Zhou Enlai?

Met expectations

There's a lot of international politics in this story--it happened during my lifetime, and I still had trouble following all the Chinese characters. But the main story about how ping pong (table tennis) influenced world events is really fascinating. You get a whole different perspective on how different cultures think and how major issues result from what seem to be minor factors. It's worth spending the time to read it. Recommended.

What a surprisingly good book. Hard to believe that such a seemingly minor sport could have such a huge influence. There is a lot of serious history in the book. Very well written.

Venki Krishnamoorthy is a functional consultant who delivers end-to-end SuccessFactors-based cloud HCM solutions across all deployment models. Venki has done over 18 full lifecycle implementations of SAP, Employee Central, SuccessFactors Recruiting, SuccessFactors Onboarding, Performance and Goal Management, SuccessFactors Learning, SuccessFactors Succession and Development, and Nakisa for customers in the US and across the globe. Venki is an author of four SAP PRESS books and has been a speaker for SAP Insider, ASUG conferences, and SuccessFactors-facilitated online webinars.

Donna Leong-Cohen, managing director at Coeus Consulting, works closely with SAP Labs to co-develop the RDS and best practices for SuccessFactors integration/migration packages. Prior to founding Coeus, Donna worked for several years with Deloitte Consulting in their Human Capital Division. Donna has over 16 years of experience in implementing HCM global systems and business consulting specializing in HR business process transformation. She has delivered over 30+ HCM implementation projects for a broad spectrum of global and domestic clients. Her wealth of experience in the HR systems industry has augmented her ability to work with complex global organizations and across many business sectors. Prashanth Padmanabhan is a senior director of HCM product management at SAP and an SAP Mentor. This is a great book for everyone going into high school and those students already in high school! I love how Jess uses personal examples from her school to relate to her readers. This was a great read and I would 10/10 recommend it! Wish I could give it 6 stars

I absolutely loved this book. Not only did it manage to hold my attention, but it also considered a topic that is not addressed often as an entire book. One of the most favorable parts were the random tips and tricks throughout the book, as I would consider them helpful in the future! It absolutely met what I had expected to find while reading the book.

Since the early 1990's, when the first commercial meters started to appear, there have been around 2,000 field applications of MFM for field allocation, production optimisation and well testing. So far, many alternative metering systems have been developed, but none of them can be referred to as generally applicable or universally accurate. Both established and novel technologies suitable to measure the flow rates of gas, oil and water in a three-phase flow are reviewed and assessed within this book. Those technologies already implemented in the various commercial meters are evaluated in terms of operational and economical advantages or shortcomings from an operator point of view. The lessons learned about the practical reliability, accuracy and use of the available technology is discussed. The book suggests where the research to develop the next generation of MFM devices will be focused in order to meet the as yet unsolved problems.
The book provides a critical and independent review of the current status and future trends of MFM, supported by the authors’ strong background on multiphase flow and by practical examples. About the Author
Professor Hewitt is an Emeritus Professor of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London. Professor Hewitt has worked on a variety of subjects in the general field of chemical engineering but his speciality for several decades now has been in mutliphase flow systems, with particular reference to channel flow and heat transfer. He has published many papers and books in this industrially important area and has lectured on the subject widely throughout the world. He has had a wide experience of industrial application through extensive consultancy and contract work and through his founding of the Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow Service (HTFS) at Harwell and Hexxcell Ltd., a spin-out of Imperial College London operating in the area of heat transfer and energy efficiency. Professor Hewitt's contributions to the field have been recognised by his election to the Royal Academy of Engineering (1985), the Royal Society (1990), and the US National Academy of Engineering (1998) in addition to several international awards including Donald Q. Kern Award by AIChE (1981), Max Jakob Award by ASME (1995), and the Luikov Medal by ICHMT (1997). In 2007, he was presented the Global Energy Prize by Vladimir Putin at the World Economic Forum.

Colin Falconer was born in North London, and spent most of his formative years at school playing football or looking out of the window wishing he was somewhere else. After failing to make the grade as a professional football player, he spent much of his early years traveling, hitch-hiking around Europe and North Africa and then heading to Asia. His experiences in Bangkok and India later inspired his thriller VENOM, and his adventures in the jungles of the Golden Triangle of Burma and Laos were also filed away for later, the basis of his OPIUM series about the underworld drug trade. He later moved to Australia and worked in advertising, before moving to Sydney where he freelanced for most of Australia’s leading newspapers and magazines, as well as working in radio and television. He started publishing in 1984, mostly humor and young adult fiction, but with the publication of VENOM in 1990, he became a full time novelist. He has published over 40 books in print.
