            <description><![CDATA[Tata Metaliks-Kubota Pipes a joint-venture between Tata Metaliks (51%),Kubota Corp Japan (44%) and Metal One Japan (5%) has set up a facility to manufacturer ductile iron pipes with an investment of Rs. 1850 million. The estimated capacity of the pipe plant is 110 mtpa and the company plans to raise it to 250 mtpa. Of this, 20% will be exported, though there is domestic demand as per joint venture agreement.

            <description><![CDATA[Dhruvdesh Metasteels, a sponge iron manufacturer from Bangalore is planning to invest Rs.1200 million for a forward and backward integration programme. It plans to extract iron ore from Tumkur district and also to get into finished steel products. It is also setting up a  new manufacturing unit with 40,000 tpa capacity with a rolling mills, steel melt shop and a 8 MW power plant for captive consumption. The facility spreads over  65 acres in Hirebaganal village in Koppal district. For its backward integration programme of iron ore mining, it has acquired mining license for 20 years in Chikkanayakanahalli in Tumkur district.

 Sundareswarar Alloy and Steels Ltd has commenced building works on its steel plant in Seyanoor in Manamadurai district of 
TN. The 3 lakh tpa plant coming up at an investment of Rs.7000 million is promoted by NRI’s from ASEAN and Hongkong. The 
plant is expected to become operational from 18 months after financial closure. The company plans to pump Rs.15000 million in 
phases over the next 5 years.
  Latest News   	Sundarwarar Alloy & Steel, belonging to Texmaco Engineering is planning to set up a new alloy 
steel plant at
Melur in Madurai. 	The project involves setting up a unit to produce 300,000 tonnes of alloy, special and
stainless steel. 	The semi-finished products would find application in downstream industries, mainly in the
automotive sector for making engine parts and chassis. 	As of March 2010, the company has been allotted
about 500 acres of land in Melur for the project]]></description>

Global steel demand is likely to come down by 12% this year and 16% for 2010. Indian companies may survive this through low employee costs
