            <description><![CDATA[Kolkatta, Vizag, Tuticorin, NMPT, Mormugao, Mumbai, JNPT, Kandla have all reported an increase in income surplus compared to last year. According to IPA (Indian Ports Association), the handling cost per-tonne have come down by 2% and the manpower costs have gone by 20% however, the no. of people deployed have gone down.    Overall cargo traffic has increased by 10% and no. of vessels calling at these major ports have also registered an increase of 6%.{backbutton}]]></description>

            <description><![CDATA[Government of Tamil Nadu is setting up two new ports Manappad and Punnakayal in Tuticorin district.  The Manappad port which will handle LNG vessels, will come up at an area of 100 acres with an investment of Rs. 18000 million and the Punnakayal will come up at an area of 8 acres with an investment of Rs. 1500 million. The TN government is open and keen to bring private entrepreneurs to develop these projects. Land for both the projects have already been acquired. {backbutton} ]]></description>

While the first phase of the Gopalpur port has been completed, the Dhamra port work has been started. A company in the name & style of ‘Dhamra Port Co Ltd’ has been formed by the joint-venture of L&T and Tisco. Now the port administration are gearing up to install modern RFID technology to monitor truck movements, CCTV and speed-boats for patrolling seawaters. Advisory notes have been provided to various agencies who are registering fishing vessels to apply due diligence.             <description><![CDATA[Orissa government is all set to sign MoU’s with Hyderabad based Navayugha Engineering to set up an All Weather port in Astharanga in Puri district of Orissa. The total cost of project will be Rs.19000 million of which Rs. 4000 million will be spent on rail connectivity. The port will have a cargo handling capacity of 20 million tonnes per year in the first phase.  Essel  Engineering,  a AV Birla group is also planning to sign an MoU with the state government to set up a captive port jetty at Chudamani in Bhadrak district. The port will have 2 million tonne handling capacity and will handle cement, thermal coal, iron ore, limestones, clinker, gypsum and other metals. In the SPV, Sical will hold 63% while MMTC will hold the remaining 26% stake and the remaining will be held by L&T Infrastructure Development Projects Ltd.             <title>Petronet LNG to set up LNG terminal in Kochi port</title>

            <description><![CDATA[Petronet LNG has signed an agreement with Kochi Port Trust to set up a LNG terminal at Puthuvype  near Kochi Port land site and leased  33.40 hectares. The company has awarded the EPC contract to IHI, Japan. Currently, the capacity of the terminal is 2.5 mmtpa and it has provision to double it later. All other clearances has been completed, DPR done, environment clearances cleared and will pump Rs.40000 million and could generate indirect employment to 2000 – 5000 people. This signing of agreement has been delayed much and the new terminal will help FACT, NTPC- Kayamkulam thermal plant and 	textile and foundry units in TN. {backbutton} ]]></description>

            <description><![CDATA[Kandla Port in Gujarat has handled the most cargo in the fiscal. It has handled around 68 million tonnes. The port which handles both dry and liquid cargo is 5 million tonnes ahead than its rival Vizag port. Among dry cargo import, it handles fertilizer the most while in exports, it was soya. The port is looking at expansion options. It plans to deepen Bundar basin at Kandla to facilitate barge jetties and also to deepen Tuna barge jetty. It is also planning 4 dry cargo jetties to ease the congestion. The USP and success of Kandla could be its lowest per tonne cargo handling cost.{backbutton} ]]></description>
