NEET 2017 Medical entrance to be counted as first attempt, CBSE

Aspiring doctors will get three chances to clear the National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET), the CBSE say, raising hopes of thousands of candidates who had failed in three earlier attempts and were ineligible to take the test again.

he Medical Council of India (MCI) – which governs medical education in India – held out more hope, saying it had not decided on the number of attempts candidates could take, hinting it could give more chances.

Earlier rules of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which conducts the exams, had held candidates ineligible to take NEET this year if they had failed thrice in the entrance exams – NEET 2016 or the now-discontinued All India Pre-Medical Test.

NEET was launched last year after the Supreme Court threw out a clutch of petitions challenging the single, all-India test for entry to medical and dental colleges.

In a statement late in the evening, the health ministry said NEET-2017 shall be counted as the first attempt, irrespective of the previous attempts in AIPMT/NEET.

An estimated 10 lakh students are likely to take the test on May 7. The online application system has been updated to allow previously barred students to fill their application, the CBSE said.

“Issue of number of attempts in NEET sorted out. Clarification received from MoHFW/MCI that NEET 2017 will be treated as first attempt and two more will be given. CBSE is updating this on website (sic),” HRD minister Prakash Javadekar tweeted.

The board notification will come as a relief for thousands of students who were protesting the earlier directive barring them from taking NEET 2017.

The matter relating to approval of recommendations of the (MCI) executive committee limiting the number of NEET attempts is yet to be placed before the general body of the council.

In pursuance of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India,

Notification, the 5

th Joint Entrance Examination (Main) - 2017 will be conducted on 02/04/2017

(Sunday) by the JEE Apex Board for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programmes in

NITs, IIITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions etc.

The States of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Nagaland & Odisha have

joined JEE (Main) system. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these

states, which were earlier admitting based on their State level examination, are also advised to fill

in the JEE (Main) -2017 application form online.

The JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate

has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the

IITs/ISM Dhanbad. The candidates are advised to see the JEE (Advanced) website

www.jeeadv.ac.in for information related to JEE (Advanced).

The detailed information bulletin containing details of examination, syllabus, eligibility criteria

to appear, examination fee, cities of examination, State code of eligibility, age relaxation, eligibility

for admission, reservation policies and important dates will be available on JEE (Main) website

www.jeemain.nic.in on 01/12/2016. The aspiring candidates are requested to download the

information bulletin from above mentioned website only and read the same carefully before

applying. The eligibility criteria for JEE (Main) & JEE (Advanced) are different. The candidates are

requested to read the information bulletin carefully and ensure their eligibility as per the criteria

laid down for JEE (Main)and JEE (Advanced).

All the Indian citizen candidates should possess AADHAAR card issued by UIDAI

with their correct details. At the time of filling application form of JEE (Main) – 2017, the

candidates will have to enter their AADHAAR number, name, date of birth & gender which

will be validated with the UIDAI’s data. In case, these particulars do not match, the

candidate will not be able to fill the application form of JEE (Main) - 2017. Therefore, the

candidates are advised to ensure that their AADHAAR card has correct details of their

name, date of birth & gender as per school records. If there is some mismatch in these

details, the candidates should immediately get it corrected in AADHAAR data or school

records, as the case may be.

The aspiring candidates have to apply online only through JEE (Main) website

www.jeemain.nic.in. The online application process will start from 01st December, 2016 onwards.

The last date for application is 02nd January, 2017 and fee can be paid upto 03rd January 2017.
