Project Ethos, bringing locally developed art, music, and fashion to eight different cities this year, including Scottsdale in May, is holding its finale on 11/11/11 at the Mint, in Scottsdale. If you missed the party in May, its getting bigger this time around.

The new Mint in Old Town Scottsdale offers an awesome venue, with sleek interiors and the coolest 3-D LED cube above the main bar. It also held the Phoenix Fashion Week Model Announcement this year to a great reception.

The 10 p.m. runway show will include fashion by Bri Bridge, Amelia Walsh, Ouma Clothing and Hour Glass Apparel. The designers will compete to win a $3,000 Flavor Fashionista Challenge sponsored by Vitaminwater Zero. Each designer is given a $200 budget to produce a garment inspired by a flavor of Vitaminwater Zero. Each piece will be shown on the runway and voted through a live text-to-vote to choose the winner.

Here is a curated list of my favorite established designers from Phoenix Fashion Week 2011.

SJ Couture
SJ Couture, a luxurious bridal line created by designer Jeanne Hankerson, has made yet another appearance at this year’s Phoenix Fashion Week. This year, Hankerson unveiled a collection of classic white dresses with quirky feminine charms here and there. Along with elegant silk and chiffon fabrics, sheer polka dots and pearls were further details seen throughout to this quintessential line.

Evan Golf
This collection was no doubt one of my favorites throughout the entire event. Even though Designer JeeHee Han aims toward golf apparel, her collection is quite versatile for everyday wear as well. Her line featured a mix of contemporary sleek to dainty peter pan collars, bows, sheer tops and scallop edges. There was also a basic color palette of black, white and grey that gave the overall collection a very minimalistic feel.

Alana Hale
With various hues of nude, camel, mint and orange, Alana Hale designed an airy and feminine line with her own twist on effortless chic. She touched on details of intricate floral lace, animal prints and even incorporated a plethora of ivory feathers. Low-cut, slouchy shirts, shorts and maxi skirts were a majority seen on the runway too.

Stop Staring Clothing
Stop Staring was a lovely 1940s and 1950s inspired collection featuring beautiful, coquettish silhouettes paired with all sorts of lavishing accessories. From lace gloves, flirty patterned stockings, to sparkling purses shaped out of the Eiffel tower, a lipstick tube and a cute little telephone, the collection overall was just beautiful. Think Bonnie and Clyde to even Mad Men.

When it comes to Arizona, fashion is the last thing you would ever think of. You would think of the dreadful scorching heat, the desert and prickly cacti but surely, never fashion. Well if you weren’t aware yet, Phoenix does have a fashion scene that is currently in working progress and thanks to Phoenix Fashion Week, the city is one step closer in becoming a beautiful stylish success.

Phoenix Fashion Week officially kicked off their 7th year this October 5 to October 8 with a handful of notable established designers as well as new emerging designers. Not only did the established designers make quite an impression on the runway, the newbies weren’t playing around either. Here is a recap of some of my favorites.

Blue Bird Denim
Say hello to the winner of this year’s Emerging Designers Contest, Blue Bird Denim. The collection was a flirty retro take with a fruity palette of hot pink, orange, sky blue and green combined with knot-tied crop tops, high-waisted skirts, overalls and flare jeans. Topped off with some of the outfits were big white sunglasses, which also gave the entire line that whole Twiggy retro-esque.

Joli Richards
From sleek cuts to the use of various textures, Richards designed an overall simplistic collection with a classy touch. A favorite seen on the runway was a silky orange deep v-cut blouse that was paired with silky pearl white wide leg trousers. They were an absolute match made in heaven. Along with puffy sleeves and burgundy velvet jackets, Richards incorporated a funky pattern in the mix as well.

Jones Select
For the first time during Phoenix Fashion Week, there’s menswear. Not the typical t-shirt and jean deal (although there was that too) but nicely clean fitted suits with dapper bow ties and bright patterned pocket squares. Designer Gary Jones created a line that showcased his skills with every precise, detailed cut and stitch from head to toe. Jackets and vests were neutral colored and also a pop of electric blue and an outline of red on black.

Silvia Bours
Silvia Bours was the final show of the entire event and was no doubt, the most anticipated one. From pastel chiffon skirts to intricate gold and silver embroidered details and poofy wigs, her collection was a dreamy fairytale excitingly unfolding. It was as if Marie Antoinette and Swan Lake had come together. Bours also touched on a soft romantic palette of white, pink and gold that flowed with her designs well.

Stay tuned for another Phoenix Fashion Week recap on established designers!

The Phoenix Fashion Week Style Villa an designers that I got to see up close and personal

Last night was a great time. Style Villa may have been my favorite part of the entire event because there were a few designers that I got to see up close and personal that I may not have seen previously.

My number 1 of the night was Remix Watches. They are a new company that just launched that sells really great, more elaborate, swatch watch kind of products. The best part about them though is that there is a “secret” button that makes the face of the watch light up. On top of this, you can also switch out the faces with the bands. As of right now, you can only purchase a whole watch, however, by the end of the quarter you will be able to purchase different bands. I will admit, that I loved these watches so much that I may have purchased 5 of them. Shhh. It’s a secret.

One of the other honorable mentions of the night is ziG bracelet by J Period. Talk about fabulous jewelry! The pieces that I saw were magnetic bracelets made of wingnuts or various colors and stones/pearls/titanium in the middle. They looked really cool, gender neutral and upon further inspection, industrial. They were amazing and the designer was very interested in discussing her pieces.

There was a great display of work from the school of design at Collins College who had help a Japanese inspired fashion show. Some of the work was intensely detailed, and I have no words for the fabulousness of the bustle of that one skirt…

On top of all of these amazing designs I also got to get an up close and personal look at the designs of Dejamone. I’m telling you, this night is the beginning of a dangerous love affair…

Catch me tonight at the second night of the fashion shows. Hopefully I’ll see you there!

Phoenix Fashion Week and Yelp team up to provide the Log-in Lounge for fashion bloggers.

Dear Every-Other-Fashion-Week,
Phoenix has got it down.

Fashion Bloggers are in, traditional media is falling by the wayside. Its the future. Some might think bloggers are lowly creatures, holed up in a basement, feverishly posting scathing reviews of Project Runway designers from the comfort of anonymity, we are so much more. The media team at Phoenix Fashion Week knows this.

Introducing the Yelp Log-in Lounge.

For the first year ever, the bloggers get their own sweet lounge from Yelp for all the tweeting and blogging we do. We now have our own couches, bean bag chairs and tables for our laptops (outlets included!) that face the runway and overlooks the crowd. If that wasn’t enough Yelp supplied us with some playing cards and Jenga for pre-party fun. plus a swag bag.

Networking: @ThuyAnBui and @Little_K talking fashion over some Vitamin Water Zero

We Got The Hook Ups

The Yelp Log-in Lounge was a great opportunity to network with other local fashion bloggers, photographers and media types. The #PHXFW Media Team even arranged for one-on-one interviews with the designers immediately following the show. It’s a great opportunity to get to know the people behind the curtain and talk to them about their experience on the runway.

Nice and Cozy, even with a laptop in tow

With all the action we had last night, it was a good thing Vitamin Water Zero and Pop Chips gave us a seemingly endless supply of goodies to keep the energy flowing all night.

Be sure to follow Yelp, Vitamin Water and Pop Chips on twitter and thank them for the love

Phoenix Fashion Week has always been friendly to media types including local fashion bloggers. This year they are taking it one further and have even given Bloggers their own section and media badge. In my fourth year of coverage for Phoenix Fashion Week, I’ve made a lot of mistakes and missed a lot of opportunity but I’ve learned a few things too. So listen up and hopefully you will fair better than I have.

1. Wear Comfortable Shoes

4 hours on a photog stand with these?

This should really extend beyond shoes to your whole outfit. Its always good to look great, but you have to remember, you aren’t the main event. A good portion of the time you will be on your feet, meeting people, promoting your blog, trying to get the best angle for your next Instagram shot, so stay comfortable. Get into some cute flats or jelly anythings. There are FOUR days and over 30 runway shows this year, so make sure your body can handle it.

2. Charge your Batteries, Bring Extras

If you have a smart phone and it’s not fully charged before you leave for fashion week, it will die at the absolute worst possible time. Guaranteed. Even better, invest in a spare battery. The same goes for cameras, iPads, laptops (now that us bloggers have our own Yelp Log-in lounge). Also make sure that you have paper, extra pens, etc… and gum, for feverishly gnawing when you’re phone dies.

3. Have Business Cards!!!

This is the biggest tip of them all. If you don’t have a business card or some way to pass out your info, NO ONE WILL REMEMBER YOU. Fashion week is the single biggest fashion networking event of the year and the contacts you will make are priceless. If you don’t have the big budget, VistaPrint.com Offers Free Business Cards, Uprinting.com is very affordable, and google is great for finding deals. In a pinch, run down to Office Max and buy some business card paper and print them on your home printer. If that still doesn’t work, write your contact info on a bunch of pieces of scrap paper (maybe this will help you stand out). PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW YOU, DON’T LET THEM FORGET.

These tips all come from experience. When I asked the Scottsdale Fashionista for her advice, she came up with the same things. We’ve all made the mistakes and there are more to come, but these are the big three.

Shoes, Batteries, Business Cards. Check.

Special thanks to Karen of ScottsdaleFashionista.com and IndieStitch writer Thuy An Bui for contributing.
