I have been a fan of soundcloud for a long time know. I think it's a great way to discover and share new music. I have done a song of the day on oand off for a while and have found it to be cumbersome and time consuming to post it on this TypePad blog. Tumblr is a great service and their Soundcloud integration makes sharing music so easy.
So I recently set up a new tumblr site to post and share music. Check it out and if you have any suggestions for music to post please share it with me at indiepulse at gmail dot com.

Ben Harper just released a new record - a collaboration with Charlie Musselwhite - a legend on blues harp and guitar. There's a lot of good stuff on the record, especially this track I Don't Believe A Word You Say. But when I heard it I immediately wondered why they didn't put When The Levee Breaks on there. And then I came a cross this video from the CD release party. The record was produced by Ben Harper and is available now on the Stax label.

I really dig this track from the new Local Natives record. It's got a great groove. The sound of this record really took me by surprise. Maybe it's just me but this seems a bit serious for a Frenchkiss record, no? Not a bad thing but definitely different. The new record was produced by Aaron Dessner.

Majical Cloudz is Montreal-based songwriter Devon Welsh, with producer and live collaborator Matthew Otto. Their introspective brand of synth-driven music is characterized by an almost architectural desire for balance, crafting songs that are as sonically minimal as they are emotionally complex, equally reliant on negative, hollow space and lush, warm textures. Welsh bares his soul through carefully articulated stories, oriented around themes of death, patience, family and desire. Their live performance is deeply expressive and raw, Welsh's rich baritone woven into intricate stories amidst washes of white noise, filtered synths and sparse thuds.
Following an acclaimed EP released on Arbutus Records in 2012 titled Turns Turns Turns, Majical Cloudz is thrilled to announce their signing to Matador Records. Along with news of the signing, Majical Cloudz has released a Yours Truly session for the track "Turns Turns Turns," which can be viewed here. The band will embark on a North American tour later this month with Autre Ne Veut, making a stop in Austin at SXSW - upcoming dates can be viewed below.

Last week Tegan and Sara released their latest record. It is a big shift to a more polished, electro-pop sound but it suits them really nicely. The songs are dense and shiny but underneath it all there is still a lot of emotion and great songwriting. The record was produced by Greg Kurstin, Justin Meldal-Johnsen and Rob Cavallo. Here is one of my favorite tracks from the record.
