IndieTune is now available for syndication on Feedburner.

To get regular updates on your web based news site, like MyYahoo! or by e-mail, mobile phone or instant messager click the RSS icon above the “I blogger” button, choose your favorite news reader and follow the directions.

You’ll be notified each time a new post is added to IndieTune and have the opportunity to keep up with our progress in creating the preeminent digital independent music distribution network.

IndieTune will aim to create a comprehensive link between the makers and fans of independent music of all varieties.

If you have produced or are planning to produce an independent music release on CD or in another format, please supply us with a copy, either by e-mailed or “snail mail”, of the recording with a photo of the cover and information about the release.

Because of increasing inquiries by independent recording producers, we plan to soon roll out a more detailed explanation of the network and how it will function.

IndieTune joins Artzooks affiliate program

IndieTune is now a proud participant in the Artzooks affiliate program.

The program allows you to order from 750,000 royalty free stock images as well as illustrations, motion and sounds from a variety of source vendors.

Access this site either through the large banner at the top of the page or the buttons at the buttom of each individual post.

With each purchase of images, illustrations, motion or sounds a percentage of revenue will aid in building the IndieTune digital music network.

How this whole thing got started

The idea for IndieTune really occurred to me as a result of a comment made by Feedburner CEO Dick Costolo in a June 20, 2005 podcast interview with Greg Galant of Venture Voice.

In the interview, Costolo observed that at times a blog, with its rapid updating nature, could be more useful for entrepreneurs in launching a new venture than the traditional business plan:

I'm saying if you ask me to choose one or the other, I think in this Web 2.0 world of being able to get companies off the ground quickly, being able to build things, release them and then iterate....and iterate and iterate and iterate and keep rolling out things more frequently that it behooves entrepreneurs to use a blog or some other quick start method of communication as a vehicle for getting awareness and understanding of what they're trying to do instead of building a detailed business plan, trying to get funding around an idea by cold calling people and then, you know, getting started based on that funding.

Costolo went on to say:

I think that having a blog, thinking about what you're doing and writing about what you're doing in the blog is a much faster way to build an audience and generate interest.

Looking around for an ideal start-up experiment for another blog I edit at boostrapme.com, I decided that another blog might be the best way to promote that idea and gain support.

The IndieTune blog is the result.

Over the next several months you will see details emerging here about our plans to build an online distribution network for independent musicians and producers.

Our blog will serve as a combination newsletter/evolving business plan/marketing tool as we slowly move toward operational status. Stop back regularly to discover how you or someone you know may fit in.

What is IndieTune?

IndieTune can best be described in a couple of ways.

--IndieTune Is A Network. More than a mere site or collection of sites, IndieTune was conceived from the very beginning as a total link between producers and listeners of independent music the world over.

Our efforts will include cooperative promotion by the artists, producers and independent labels that make up the network.

But it will also include creation of a highly visible forum where those who create independent music can promote themselves and forge new relationships with fans, fellow artists and producers.

--IndieTune Is A Business. Beyond a set of high sounding principles, IndieTune was formed out of a belief that creators and producers of independent music and other audio entertainment should be able to derive a living from their work.

We at IndieTune also see the service we provide as a viable business with a positive growth potential for the future even though we have no plans to charge the artists we work with a single cent to become part of the network.

Instead, we will profit when our participating artists and producers profit from the sale of their recordings, promotional materials or other items they choose to market.

In the future, we can see the possibility of a growing scope for IndieTune in the form of bricks and mortar retail, wholesale distribution and of other products both on the Internet and in more traditional media.

--IndieTune Is A Community. Though this may go without saying, we’ll say it anyway. We believe our new network will create a sense of community not only between artists and producers, but between those who create the music and the fans who support them.

To this end, we hope, in the coming months, to create an open dialogue through community forums between artists, producers and the fans discussing music in all its facets.

Instead of a marketing machine designed to create the musical flavor of the week and then condition consumers to respond, we hope an earnest conversation between those who create, enjoy and think about music will yield far greater rewards.
