Inspired: The Block Hotel Room Challenge

2013-05-14T20:04:00.003+10:00

Super excited about the new series of The Block!

Here is a concept board showing what I would have done for the first challenge - a hotel room on a budget.

Navy, Mustard, Scandinavian & Graphic.

Add a full wall of sheer curtains, some great strip lighting and a dropped ceiling and I think the room would have looked fab!

Wedding Plans!

2012-10-09T20:35:00.001+11:00

Super excited about my Brother & soon-to-be sister-in-law's wedding this Saturday!

A lot of work to be done over the next few days to create the best day of their LIVES!

It's going to be amazing :) Here's a bit of inspiration to get us through to Saturday...

New House

2012-08-07T09:17:00.001+10:00

Today we're doing some work on the new house.

You may remember the old house that Izzy and I worked on a while back - well it was so popular that it was ripped apart many times and finally beyond repair, so it was time for a new house!

Now trying to do this with a 2 year old Izzy is much harder than with a 1 year old Izzy! The attention span is just not there! So it is taking a LONG time!

Anyway here's a few piccys of the house and the recipie for the glue we made :). Sophie even woke up to join in the fun!

Mix 1 cup plain flour, 1/3 cup sugar & 1 1/2 cup water in a saucepan to make a smooth paste. Add 1 tsp vinegar and heat over medium heat until it thickens. (try to keep stirring or else you'll end up with chunky glue like us!). Whack it in a jar and da-da! Glue. Edible glue. Enjoy!!!

Work & Play

2012-06-21T21:32:00.003+10:00

After 7 months at home I am just a little excited to be back at work! I have missed the creativity :)

Today I spent a good half hour looking at ideas for a kids games room, and I'm now wondering how I can create one of these beautiful, whimsical play areas for my own girls!

(Is it ironic that I need to get back to work to get excited about playing?!)

Sophie Anne Upton

2012-02-10T07:58:00.003+11:00

She finally arrived!

Sophie Anne Upton born 29th January 2012, 4.47kg and 51cm long.

Only 11 days overdue!

She is just gorgeous. I'd forgotten how small and snuggly a newborn can be! She just wakes to feed and then back to sleep, what a gem!

And her big sister thinks shes pretty amazing!

Patience

2012-01-28T10:19:00.001+11:00

One of my major resolutions for 2012 was to learn to sew. I had thoughts I setting myself a goal like in the movie Julie and Julia - 100 projects by the end of the year or something like that. I've since decided just to complete the projects I start will be enough! The craft cupboard is full of fabric and half finished bits and pieces!!!

I was chatting with my lovely friend Sal about how my problem with sewing is my lack of patience, and she suggested perhaps patience should be my resolution, not just sewing! Well Sal, I think that perhaps patience will have to be my resolution this year.

Baby #2 is now 10 days overdue and after too many days of false labour, a massive meltdown by me and now averaging a packet of Tim Tams a day, I have decided this is the true test of patience!!! What can I take from this experience? Always ensure the fridge is full of Tim Tams before starting to sew!!!

Here's a few pics of the new baby's room, it's a really funny mix of bits and pieces and not something I would ever think would work - mauve walls, red pinstripe curtains, cushions with paisleys and greens - but somehow it all works and has a lovely, serene, lived in feeling. If only this little girl would come out and live in it!!!

Thanks Noni!

Aunty Em you are a Gem!

2012-01-13T09:41:00.001+11:00

The doorbell rang this morning and sitting by the door was a brown paper parcel and inside the most beautiful collection of things for New Baby!

My amazing sis Aunty Em made her all these beautiful pieces - a cot sheet set, onesie, dress and knickers and singlet and knickers, all in beautiful fabrics, with little flowers and words with lots of meaning :)

Love you bigger than the sky is what my Mum used to say to us, an Bren and I use it now!

So thanks Aunty Em so much for our little box of love, I just can't wait for Mrs M to arrive so we can use it all!!! lybtts xxxxxxxx

Sleep Please :)

2011-12-07T08:40:00.004+11:00

6 weeks to go until the arrival of baby girl #2 and it can't come soon enough!

I'm exhausted!

The girls rooms are done, the markets are finished for the year, and I feel I'm in a little of a lull - I don't want to tidy up our disastrous dining room, where all the junk has gone!

All I want to do is sleep!!!!! Here looks like a pretty good place...

Laundry Inspiration

2011-11-28T07:54:00.004+11:00

The next room I need to attack after the girl's rooms this weekend is the laundry.

We have a lovely big laundry with great natural light but a lack of storage. I'm planning to have a bit of fun in this little room, after all no-one really sees it!

This laundry is a lot like mine with the placement of the door and window at the end. Unfortunately I don't have the lovely windows down the side :)

Love the wallpaper and light fitting!

I'm a little obsessed with this idea - separate laundry baskets for the different colours! Not sure if I have the room!

Gorgeous blue cabinets

How posh is this?!!

A New House

2011-11-24T11:09:00.004+11:00

We are getting crafty!!! Today Izzy and I are building a princess house out of the new car seat box - I am WAY more excited than she is and have to stop myself from decorating the whole thing, reminding myself this is an activity for Izzy not me! Oh dear!

We started off with a box...

Cut out a door, some windows and made a little pointy roof. All very rough - nothing too fancy here!

Dolly likes it :)

We are adding some cladding to the exterior (Fairy wrapping paper stuck on with homemade flour glue!)

Izzy very quickly learnt to stick the pretty side up, but overall was way more excited about the paintbrush than the paper - that's my girl!!

Happy to climb in when she saw I was taking photos of her!

I did have to do a little finishing off myself once Izzy went to bed - Just to get the front facade finished and the door so I can attach them this afternoon. Izzy is obsessed with opening and closing doors at the moment so I'm hoping this will get her a little more interested!!

So stay tuned for more updates on our beautiful house!!!

Lamp Revamp

2011-11-23T11:31:00.003+11:00

It's about time I updated you all on a few of the projects that have been going on in our home.

There will be a few BIG changes while we prepare for Mrs Maxwell to arrive, until then I'll be posting about a couple of little tid bits that are slowly making our house a home!

Firstly: The Lamp Revamp!

Picked up this little beauty from my work and with just a little paint and sand it was ready to go...

Here it is in it's former glory, dark brown and gold - still pretty but not quite right for our place!

With a delicious coat of blue paint. Sorry, I mixed this colour up from a couple of the leftover samples I had in the garage. The closest colour I can suggest is Dulux "Calandre"

A quick sand to show up all the lovely detail, and a new shade and voila! Pretty little lamp for the family room.

Forever ago I was asking for help with our family room - well it's all done and painted and I love it, it's just always covered in toys and mess! So one of these days I'll get it looking good and post some photos for you all! Until then this is just a little preview :)
