India is well on its way to become a knowledge power, there are all round growth in all sectors of the economy namely the agriculture, manufacturing and services. Today we have an opportunity to take the leadership in the knowledge revolution. Knowledge revolution is indeed the foundation for leading India into a Developed Nation. For this, the time is ripe because of the ascending trajectory of the economy, availability of great institutions for capacity building of the human resource, abundant bio-diversity, and other natural resources and above all, our 540 million youth who are determined to make the nation prosperous, happy and a safe place to live well before 2020.

Innovation and IT are becoming two sides of the same coin in 21^st Century. Global opportunities for career enhancement have opened up new vistas for Indian IT professionals.

Indira Institute Management (MCA), Pune in association with University of Pune and Computer Society of India organized a National Conference on September 29 at the Dhruva Auditorium.

The whole summit was live telecasted for the students in the classroom since the response was more than the auditorium capacity.

Topics such as Cloud Computing, Mobile Computing, eSecurity, Social Networking, Software Testing , KPO had been covered in the summit.

Indira group of institutes has the tradition of awarding the individuals for their outstanding contribution towards the growth of IT in the country which they achieved through dedication and commitment towards respective organization. The chief guest of the summit was Mr. Shekhar Potnis, Associate Vice President & Head of Pune Development Centre, Infosys who believed in job giving rather than job seeking. The Guest of honor was Mr. Suresh Katta, founder of Saama Technologies, who spoke about innovation.

Indira conferred The Life time achievement award to Commodore ANAND KHANDEKAR, Retired from Indian navy, currently Chief Mentor for a NGO called FUEL, (Chairman Nvidia and former MD of Motorola India ltd)

Indira conferred The IT Excellence award to all achievers viz. Mr. Anupam Arun, CEO, Venture India, a UK based KPO company. He believes that IT is no more Information Technology, but it is Innovation Technology

Mr. Kishor Wikhe, Sr. Vice President, Cap Gemini Financial Services Global Business Unit who said "To stay in industry one needs to be innovative".

Mr. Deepak Nathani, COO and Executive Director, Cybage who believes "There is only 1 life and we have to live it up".

ISC bags ‘Best Media School Award’ at Indy’s

The Indira School of Communication, which is a part of the Indira Group of Institutes, Pune bagged the prestigious ‘Best Media School of the year’ award at the fifth edition of Indy’s awards at the Hotel Taj Land Ends, Mumbai on February 9, Wednesday.

Indy’s, a private organisation, recognises excellence in mass communication, marketing communication, advertising, branding and public relations. The awards were given away at a glittering ceremony amidst the presence of top industry professionals from various sectors.

Apart from the best media school award, the ISC, , bagged three other honours at the Indy’s ,including best communication plan for placement, best communication plan for admission and best school with academic input syllabus in mass communication.

Present at the ceremony were Prof. Chetan Wakalkar, Group Director, IGI, Asmita Dani, Director, Prof. Pradip Dixit, Advisor, Yamini Thote, Placement Manager, and present and past students of Indira School of Communication.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Dr. R. L. Bhatia, management expert and the brain behind Indy’s elaborated, “The Indy’s awards are given for corporate or individual contribution towards building excellence in the specified sectors. All the awardees have made a difference to the society with their positive approach and have been examples of excellence in their work”.

The Energy & Zeal: “GUSTO 5.O”

“We always fight even though we know that there are more odds than evens & ultimately we make every chance given to us ‘even’ through our determination, passion & hard work towards our goal” and this is what is been done by the teachers & students of “Indira college of commerce & Science” which resulted in the grand success of the annual fest called “GUSTO” & since it was its 5th year it was been named as “GUSTO 5.O”, isn’t that great.

Last year the theme for Gusto was “Magic & Spells” which actually spread its magic through spells & Pegasus teamed up with young wizards at Indira. This year the theme for Gusto was “World Heritage” with the aim of interactions & Amalgamation of the bright hues of various & vast cultural from all over the world which was very well accepted by the students.

“GUSTO 5.O” took place on 17th Jan, 2011 with the auditions of “Dancing with Stars” were the top 12 participants were been choreographed by the Dance India Dance fame Miss. Amrita Mitra & then 18th Jan, 2011 which was the great day since Indira has auditions for Fashion show, Model hunt & Rock band show where we had judges from “MAQSAD BAND” Mr. Sheldon B, Mr. Arpan Emanuel, Mr. Clifford D’souza & the event which was been most enjoyed by students.

Then came 19th Jan 2011 the day on which “GUSTO 5.0” officially started & spread energy & zeal for 2 more days which were 20th & 21st Jan 2011. The 1st day of gusto started with the welcome ceremony where we had our chairperson Ms. Tarita Shankar & Prof. Chetan Wakalkar who filled more enthusiasm in the Auditorium & then we took off the fight for events. The events for the first day had its own zeal and enthusiasm in it including both MANAGEMENT and IT EVENTS but it was not the end of the day, we had classical night which was all about gazals and poems and where in PANDIT PASALKAR and his group were the performing guest and DR. ANJALI KALKAR made the evening more cheerfull and with that GUSTO 5.O day 1 came to its end.

The next morning began with more of excitement & curiosity as it was been seen in participants for STUNT MANIA & ROCK SHOW as these 2 were the major events for the day. The day started with face painting and just after that the boom for STUNT MAINA began where in we had Amit Rane (First moped Stunter) & Shekhar (MTV-Stuntmania fame) the performers who attracted & thrilled the crowd. The day continued with BOLLYWOOD QUIZ and Lock n load which was the gaming section consisting NFS, Counter Strike, FIFA’10 & Dota simultaneously GPL- GUSTO PREMIUM LEGUE was going on. The most exiting event was ROCK SHOW where we had “BRAHM” as the head lining band & the judges for it were SOUL STRINGS & SLIVER band n we had participates from all over the nation among then “WARTONE” from NESS WADIAS was the winner.

Day 3 started with EUDOXIA (management games) which had kind of roadies pattern and had led to interesting watch show and simultaneously we had MODEL HUNT, HARUM SCARUM (street dance) which was another watch show and their we had V.J SIDDHARTH from SPLIT’S VILLA as the chief guest and the then time came when the most awaiting event’s of the day started i.e. LA-BE-LA (fashion show) and DANCING WITH THE STARS where we had MR. ASIF SATAAR, Get Gorgeous-6 fame and MS. AMRITA MAITRA as the guest of honour.

The GUSTO 5.O college trophy was won by MIT-SOM College for the second time and the individual Champion trophy was taken by VIREN VIJAYA KUMAR of BMCC.

People always say things come to its end, so the GUSTO 5.O but not for the students OF INDIRA COLLEGE. The memories of GUSTO 5.O will always connect them to college even though they pass out. As students worked very hard, they were been awarded by the success of GUSTO 5.O. We are very glad that Event Organizer Prof. PRASHANT KALSHETTI, motivated us & gave an opportunity to be a part of such an exciting and breathe taking event of the year. The students were enthusiastically supported by DR. ANJALI KALKAR, Principal-In-charge and PROF. JANARDAN PAWAR Vice-Principal, Mr. Anup Vaidya Registrar of Indira College of Commerce & Science throughout Gusto 5.O.

We the students of INDIRA COLLEGE will never forget the time spend working for gusto as they are the beautiful memories we ever had in college, even though we fought with each other during gusto at the end of the day we also cried for each other & will always be proud to be called “INDIRAITES”.

Rahul:-“I have been in Gusto since 2 years and now I’m very glad that I was one of the four important pillars of Gusto, got selected by Prashant Sir.”

Moulik, a budding model says “Gusto spells energy, fun and enthusiasm. I was up to the challenge to walk the ramp when all eyes are on me. I felt passionate, powerful and excited specifically during La Bela, the fashion show.”

Dipesh says “I have made my effort bringing new ideas this year and I am very glad as my ideas turned into realities after so much of hard work”.

Nakul- student of MITSON says “GUSTO 5.O” a great success, even after hurdles very well managed”.

Robin Dharmani– “Eudoxia was one of my main events and it was a success for sure which was no less than Roadies”.

Viren- student of BMCC- “GUSTO as an event improved a lot since last year. I was particularly impressed with the general camaraderie among the volunteers & participants”.

National conference on Advances in Engineering and Management 2011

Conference report

“Advances in Engineering and Management 2011” was the theme of the first National Conference organised by Indira College of Engineering and Management sponsored by University of Pune. It is a pleasure to report the outcome of the conference.

For the conference various themes were decided to invite and accept papers. The themes included Electronics, Computer and IT, Mechanical, Science, and MBA. In total, we received more than 200 papers and after scrutiny, 125 papers were selected and presented in the conference. 180 delegates registered for the conference during these 3 days.

On 13^th of January, the first day of conference, the national conference was inaugurated at the hands of Dr. A.S.Padalkar (Dean, engineering faculty, UOP) and Prof. Chetan Wakalkar (Group director, Indira Group of Institutes). Dr. Padalkar praised our efforts towards arranging National Conference at a very young age of the college. He was very much impressed with the infrastructure and staff at ICEM. He quoted that the college will soon appear in the list of reputed colleges and will travel very fast along the expressway.

On 13^th January after the inauguration, eminent speakers were invited to enlighten the audience with their thoughts and experiences. Among them were, Dr. Sinnikari (Prof. at COE Pune and GCOE Karad) who addressed the audience on writing and publishing technical papers.

For the second session, Dr. Ashish Lele (Scientist, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune) addressed with the topic entitled Material technology.

Post lunch Dr. J. P. Modak (Dean, research and Development Cell, Nagpur University) dealt with Langrage Approach for problem solving in research.

And for the last session the eminent guest from TATA Group, Mr. S.D. Pradhan (Founder President Tata Technologies) advocated with the challenge and opportunities with the present technical education.

Technical sessions started on 14th of January. In series 11 sessions were planned and the sessions were conducted at Sir Vishweshvaraya seminar hall and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam hall. For technical evaluation, experienced senior faculties were invited to chair the sessions. Among the chairman’s of various sessions, Six sessions were planned with 80 presentations of ENTC, COMP, and MECH. We also invited chairmen to guide the presenters. These include,

Our 61st Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at Indira National School. The programme began with the Flag Hoisting by our Chairperson, Ms.Tarita Shankar. It was followed by a patriotic song ‘Hum Sub Bhartiya Hai !’.

Divyansh Chopra and Parishreeja Mehrotra students of class IX expressed their views on the significance of Republic Day and the Constitution of India.

A dance performance based on our National Song ‘Vande Mataram’ enthralled the audience.
This was followed by a musical skit highlighting the problems facing our republic and solutions were offered by the students to overcome these problems.

Speaking on the occasion our Chairperson spoke of the responsibility of the student community in contributing towards nation building.

The programme was attended by Prof. Chetan Wakalkar - Group Director (IGI), Mr. Sandeep Gaekwad (Admin-Director), Mr. Adesh Gaekwad (Director-Projects), Mr.Santosh Kumar ( Director-IT), Mr.Apoorv Michigan (Executive –PR) and Mr.Anil Joshi (Finance Controller).

The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Dhruv Kuttan , head boy INS.

4th Consecutive year of The Indira International Innovation Summit

Pune January 31, 2011: The 4th Indira international Innovation Summit an endeavor by The Indira Institute of Management, to expose academia to the leading edge innovation practices from across the world and to create a platform for intellectual exchange of ideas, was recently organized in Pune at the Dhruv Auditorium of Indira Group of Institutes at Wakad.

This was the fourth consecutive year of this summit and was being organized for the first time in Pune. The Summit offered a great learning experience to the students of Indira. It showcased the participation and address of renowned dignitaries from all across the globe to name a few David Wittenberg- Chief executive officer, The Innovations workgroup, Sunil Gupta- Life time Master Trainer Dr. Edward de Bono Tools, Pradeep Kumar- Global Chief technology officer, Suzlon Energy Limited, Makrand Phadke- Sr. VP Innovations, Reliance Innovation Leadership Centre, Reliance industries Ltd., Dr. Balajith Shetty- Project Head (Oxyrich), Manikchand Group.

Welcoming the delegates, Ms Tarita Shankar, Chairperson, Indira Group of Institutes, exhorted the students to imbibe the spirit of innovation, which has today become a sine qua non for the very survival of business. The wealth of knowledge and experience available at the Summit was motivation itself for the young generation at Indira, to realize the value of innovation and to benefit from the presence of ace practitioners.

Talking about this initiative of IGI, Chetan Wakalkar, Group Director, Indira Group of institutes said, “we started this summit four years ago with an aim to promote the Industry – academia linkages to enable the Indira College Of Engineering and Management (ICEM), Pune to emerge as a Leading technical manpower source, but today this summit has become a platform for rekindling the power of creativity and Innovations which would drive future Innovation in the Industry.”

Initiating the proceedings, Mr David Wittenberg, CEO, Innovations Workgroup, spoke about the immense opportunities in India for business growth in a growing economy, but it required innovative minds to capture this market. He added that Innovation is a successful strategy towards growth, India being the fastest developing economy has a very competitive market. In this scenario one can adopt any one out of three strategies for growth - firstly acquiring the market share of one’s competitor, secondly steadily growing with the market growth rate but both of these result in a slow growth rate on a short term basis, and so Mr. Wittenberg suggested that it was best to adopt the third strategy which is to innovate, which not only offers the best competitive advantage but also contributes to long tem growth.

The Summit also showcased the 4th Excellence in Innovation Awards 2011 to honour the best in Technology, Innovators & Entrepreneurs, wherein awards were conferred on individuals as well as organizations for their excellent innovations. The individual entrepreneurs were given the Star Entrepreneur award for excellence in their Innovative entrepreneurial initiatives. The young entrepreneurs were also awarded with the Star Young Entrepreneur Award.

The Innovation Leader Award was bagged by Girish Wagh President & Head – Small car project, Tata Motors ltd and Sandeep Phanasgaonkar-President and Technology officer, reliance capital ltd. The excellence in IT award was bagged by Girish Rao -Head IT solutions, Marico Ltd and T. Pradeep Kumar- Global technology officer Suzlon Energy Ltd. The excellence in software innovation award was bagged by Rajeevlochan Phadke- President and COO LingualNext Inc and CEO and MD, Image Point Technologies Pvt. Ltd. The Manufacturing Icon award was conferred to Milind Naik -Managing Director, Global Towers Ltd.

There was also a special category of Best in Class Manufacturing Awards for Excellence in various fields on organizational level wherein The Best in Class Manufacturing Award for Excellence in Productivity Improvement was bagged by Mahindra & Mahindra, Wabco- TVS and Tata Motors- CVUB, Pune, Best in Class Manufacturer of the year (large organization) was bagged by Apollo Tyres & small organization by PME Power Solutions. The Best in Class Manufacturing Award for Innovation in Manufacturing was bagged by Global Towers ,The Best in Class Manufacturing Award in the FMCG sector was bagged by Hindustan Unilever Ltd (Gold award), Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (Silver award). The excellence in Safety Innovation award was conferred to Wellcore Corporation.

The presentations by the speakers were received with rapt attention; while some speakers delivered their message with the help of acid humor and a huge fun quotient inviting audience participation at every stage.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) KHAMBOLI CAMP 2010.

Shree Chanakya Education Society’s Indira College of Commerce and Science, Pune organized seven days NSS Camp (13th December2010 to 19th December,2010) at Khamboli (Tahasil- Mulshi, Dist-Pune). NSS camp is made successful by participation of fifty-five (55) students and four (4) faculty members. NSS campaigner did various social activities listed as follows:

Day First: 13th December, 2010.

NSS camp departed from Indira Universe campus to Khamboli at 2:30pm. Campaigner cleaned and washed the residence at Anganwadi and Zilla Parishad Primary School rooms.. NSS camp was inaugurated same day in the evening at 5:00pm with the hands of honorable Shri. Ganpath Tikone, Deputy-President, Mulshi thasil Nationalist Congress Party, in presence of Shri. Shrad Satav, Sarpanch, Khamboli village. Many villagers grace this occasion and give words for success of this camp

Day Second: 14th December, 2010.

NSS campaigner has morning prayers and organised the group campaigns like group discussions on various subjects, review of book, and opinion on the book. We noted their views on the national service scheme. At evening time Prof. Rambhou Savaljkar, Shankarrao Mohite College, Akluj delivered a lecture on Superstitions in Rural areas. Prof. Rambhou Savaljkar explains myths of science in superstition with live examples. Khamboli villagers, school students are got the benefit of these important events.

Day Third: 15th December, 2010.

After morning prayers and group activites students are gather to clean Kaniphnath temple and Bhairavnath temple. These are old temples without proper care. Temple area covered with full of grasses and small bushes. After breakfast Prof. Chnadrashekhar Pawar from YASHDA, Pune conduct a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) programme. Participatory rural appraisal (PRA) is an approach used by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other agencies involved in international development. The approach aims to incorporate the knowledge and opinions of rural people in the planning and management of development projects and programmes.

The techniques are divided in the following category-

• Group dynamics, e.g. learning contracts, role reversals, feedback sessions

• Sampling, e.g. transect walks, wealth ranking, social mapping

• Interviewing, e.g. focus group discussions, semi-structured interviews, triangulation

• Visualization e.g. venn diagrams, matrix scoring, timelines.

Day Fourth: 16th December, 2010.

The Campaigners are presented the skets, songs and lectures on the total sanitation programme. Through that they are create awareness for the open defecation and health consequences.

Day Fifth: 16th December, 2010.

Students are divided in to groups and assign the responsibility to clean whole. There are three groups from morning working to clean the village roads, bus stop, wash the sewers and fill the road potholes. This work going on late evening. Then students arrange the camp fire to fun and joy during social activities.

In afternoon drawing and rangoli competitions are organsied for the village students. There is great response to these competitions. Four prizes are distributed for each competition.

Day Six: 17th December, 2010.

Indira College of Commerce and Science’s NSS unit had organised camps of Blood Donation, hemoglobin check up, and free distribution of the spectacle with the help of Poona Serological Institute. In which 29 people including NSS campaigners donated blood and more than 100 people checked their hemoglobin. The eighty (80) spectacles are distributed after checking the eye. Also 100 people are get benefitted for checking the eyes.

Dr.(Mrs.) Anjali Kalkar, Vice-Principal visit to the camp and taking lecture on Benefits of Meditation and Yoga. This was great experience to the volunteer to opt with live demonstration.

Day Seven: 18th December, 2010.

The special lecture organised for Khamboli village Self Help Group women. Mrs. Rajashree Chavan, Block Development Officer, Satara Zilla Parishad deliver the lecture on the New Schemes and Policies for SHG. Campaigners are also join the lecture and desire to organize their SHG and also give the guidelines for the formation of SHG.

Day Seven: 19th December, 2010.

Morning students enjoy tracking of mountains with the faculties. All students successfully done climbing and walking on the mountain. Student’s call this rejuvenates them and creates their interest in tracking. In afternoon after heavy breakfast departure from there after cleaning the whole area.
