The best of by the best band ever
It's like nothing you've ever heard before, this is the best of album by the best group ever! It's a fast violent statement. Atari is by far the most progressive group ever existed. It's a shame Carl Crack dieed so young. There are many groups trying to copy ATR, not even one came close to the original. This album isn't for everybody, but you should have this beauty in your collection, even if you don't appreciate it, this is an unique statement. They used the onpening track of this album,speed in the latest fast and the furious 3 movie. A MUST BUY! Best album I've heard in a long long time!

The State "Control" Album Review

Powerful Metal
Released in 1989, State of Control was the third, (and in my opinion the most professional) studio album by Christian metallers Barren Cross. If Stryper gave the faithful a righteous alternative to Bon Jovi and Dokken, Barren Cross's blazing guitars and Dickenson-esque vocals were a "gift from above" for metalheads who preferred Iron Maiden and Dio's heavier approach. Besides, there's just something appealing about a band of earnest Christians who drew such obvious influence from albums like Holy Diver and The Number of the Beast.

Barren Cross was in top form on this album. Everything about State of Control is first rate. Ray Parris just blazes away on the guitar throughout the album, the perfect counterpoint to Mike Lee's soaring vocals. The songwriting is intense and powerful, and the production quality is excellent. This album really showcases Barren Cross at their very best. The band does temper their metal assault with a remarkably good ballad (Cryin' Over You) that puts plenty of Hollywood hair bands to shame, and a straightforward love song (Love at Full Volume) that has little or no religious context, but in the main this is another signature Barren Cross power metal album with an unapologetically righteous message.

One of Barren Cross's best attributes is that they are viewed above all as a very talented metal band. You didn't have to subscribe to their faith to enjoy their music. Any time this band comes up in conversation, even the most jaded metal fan has to admit a grudging respect for Barren Cross's music, if not a real appreciation.

State of Control is an extremely strong metal album that anyone who enjoys bands like Iron Maiden, Dio, Judas Priest, and Armored Saint would do well to check out. It goes without saying that this is a must-have for Christian metal fans.

NOTE: State of Control was reissued in 2004, making this long out of print title available again with digitally remastered sound. The sonic makeover breathes new life into this classic album.

lovely
As a fan of Elliott Smith and of classical string instruments, this is truely the best of both worlds. I completely disagree that this is butchery of a talented man's music. And I doubt very much that he would object to this cd. It gives it a whole new feel and really brings it to a new level of beauty. In my opinion, lovely is the greatest compliment that I can give.

Good Background Music
This is my first Godflesh CD i have ever bought. I hope it's not the last. Although this is just remixes of songs from their "Songs of Love and Hate" album, i think if this is this good, for a remix album, then their "SoLaH" album must kick total ass!

I've always heard of Godflesh before buying this. I've always either read reviews of albums by them in magazines, or frequently seen Al Jourgensen from Ministry wearing Godflesh T-Shirts on stage, or anywhere for that matter. Fear Factory too, like to promote them in the same type of way. So i've always been a bit curious about what they sound like..

The title of my review says "Good Background Music" and i hope that that doesn't take anything away from the fact that this is great to listen to. I mean, "Good Background Music" sort of sounds like a throwaway CD. This definitely isn't a throwaway CD at all. It's great, and it's just that i always seem to put it on while i'm doing something. It's got that type of 'easy-listening' feel to it.

Other than that..I'm not too sure about their other albums, as i don't own any. Judging by this, i'm sure they are equally, probably better, than this. I guess my advice is, if you are new to Godflesh maybe pick this up first then go from there. Which i plan on doing. If only i could find any of their other CD's..

Caustic "Unicorns Kittens and Shit" Album Review

Fun for the entire family!
Ok, maybe my subject line is a bit misleading, unless your family is a group of alien sex fiends from the planet 242.
The project Caustic churns out some bangin industrial noise, and in a time where alot of industrial/EBM album find themselves collecting dust on shelfs, this album which just skips the boring pretension that the genre finds itself soaked in, and proceeds to b*tch slap even the dullest goth child into dancing like a maniac.
Mastermind Matt Finale keeps what would be boring repeatativeness on some tracks quite interesting by using well placed samples and humor. You can tell that he has been a DJ for some time now and knows what he needs to keep the crowd moving, and listening at attention as well.
It seems almost an oxymoron to say that i'm excited to see Caustic mature, as maturity seems to be part of what the project is trying to fight against. But i'm very interested to see the next album and the direction it takes once Mr.Fanale gets more experience under his belt.

KMFDM "Ruck Zuck" Album Review

Right Now!
Good title of the EP here, that's for sure. 9 tracks? I think they could have just had an entire remix album with bonus tracks, or, just make a new album altogether. I really liked the cover art for Hau Ruck, I can't say the same for this one, it's rather bland. A friend of mine pre-ordered with the T-shirt, I didn't really want to be wearing a Ruck Zuck T-shirt, the Adios or Drug Against War shirts looked much better. Anyway, for anyone who pre-ordered direct from KMFDM store, it wasn't exactly the best of deals, considering they're selling it here for more or less the same on amazon.

1. Free Your Hate (Kaptn's Krunch Mix)
- Very disappointed with this. I liked the original for speed and it just had a really rockin' feel to it. I think it's lost anything good that was in it. It sounds slow, and taken apart. Don't get me wrong, it sounds good here, but I was hoping for a faster remix, a upbeat techno rhythm or something like that. After awhile I was hoping some guitar or beat would bust in and it would get really good, it turned out not bad though. Not really a good opener on Ruck Zuck.

2. Mini Mini Mini (J.Hogstorm and The Rain City Swingin' Samples Mix)
- Considering that this is a cover song, this isn't entirely unexpected. The original was from the 60's apparently, I don't listen to 60's music, but the remix seems fitting here. First french song KMFDM has done I'm fairly certain. I enjoyed it this way better, Doesn't go with the rest of the EP though.

3. Professional Killer (The One and Only Mix)
- I really liked this one. I think it was probably the most prominent track on Ruck Zuck as KMFDM were premiering it and showing it off longe before any other track. At first it was just previews, but I think it's up on myspace, and the amount of listens clearly indicate its popularity. Professional Killer was great on Hau Ruck, but this is much better by far. I was thoroughly relieved when I heard this, Ruck Zuck was looking better.

4. Ready To Blow (Dwarves Mix)
- Nothing notable here. The original dragged a bit, but was one of my favourite tracks. I would say this is a really good remix though. I believe Jules is a part of this band called the Dwarves, which Sascha Konietzko has referred to jokingly as being retarded. I didn't find anything special or strikingly unique about this one, although it was quite good.

5. Hau Ruck (Spezial K Mix)
- Good remix right there. Finally has some driving guitars that really beat the original. The original was good, but this one just get's really alive.

6. Real Thing (Nude Mix)
- I think the only fitting word for the original was boring. This didn't really pick up the pace at all. But, I liked it better than the original, the remix made it alot better to listen to. I like the diversity of remixes on Ruck Zuck, this really calms you down, before the Der Mussolini.

7. Der Mussolini
- The only new song on the album so to speak. A cover of a classic DAF song which was very popular in Germany. I haven't heard the original, and I doubt many other people have. I like the song here as it reminds me of Helmut! Mein Helmut! beat and all the KMFDM fan's anxious for a new song should really be impressed by this one. It's in german, but the lyrics are really simple and straight forward, considering there's a total of about 5 lines in the chorus, and that's about all that's sung throughout the song. It was oringinally a dance classic, I think KMFDM lived up to those standards as this one is really upbeat.

8. WWIII (The One and Only 'Extended' Mix)
- Best song on Ruck Zuck. The vocals are completely rearranged, I think the song would have sounded better with the original vocals, but I like the beat in this song, really hard and heavy compared to everything else. On Ruck Zuck, this song closely resembles Der Mussolini. Really enjoyable track which is relentless with it's pounding beat. A bit late to be releasing a remix for WWIII considering it came out in 2003. Why not have this on WWIII Live? I don't know, but I suppose it gives Ruck Zuck a variety, and this certainly isn't filler.

9. Ansage
- I noticed another reviewer gave this 5 stars. Why? It's a narrative, it shouldn't even be rated. This isn't anything like the "Dogma" narrative from XTORT. For one, this has very little background sound, and it isn't Dorona or Cheryl in this, it's Sascha. The translation has a good message, and I like it, but if you don't speak german, I don't see how you can enjoy listening to someone speak a language you don't understand. There is some english mixed in I believe, but a very small amount. Have fun rocking to this one.

Good EP, apparently they are having a tour for it. I'm impressed with this as there really wasn't any filler in here at all. Great News. I'm hoping to catch them in North Bay.

Exceptional
Amazingly good production quality for a live CD. Ministry knows their fan base because they deliver what is truly a set of greatest hits here. Of course their are great songs that are not here but if we're reasonable about it, one can't deny that the stuff the majority of fans would want to hear at a Ministry concert are right here. I find this CD on par with Bob Seger Live Bullet, Rare Earth live, AC/DC If You Want Blood You Got it live, Prong 100% live and other eternally great live Albums such as those. One of the best live CD's available.

Dopamine ROCKS!!!
FLA just keep getting better and better. I started out with 'Civilization' which I thought couldn't be improved upon. Stellar in its own right it is different than 'Artificial Soldier' in that AS is harder with a fantastic crunchy synth sound going. Take Dopamine as an example. The sound bite doesn't do it justice... that's just the beginning; it really rocks in a few minutes. I've been going forward and backward in the FLA/everything Bill Leeb catalog and its just fantastic! Highly recommended.

Oh Al...
So consummate is my fanboyism that I am morally obligated to listen to everything Gibby records at least once, but lord, this just isn't good. I guess I can agree that it's the best industrial album of 2006, but that's really not the compliment it sounds like given the competition. The ever-increasing prevalence of unthinkably powerful computers has pretty much made the entire movement passé--any kid with a pirated copy of ProTools can do this stuff in their sleep these days--and Christina Aguilera's latest record arguably embodies the mechanistic time card punching work ethic just as well as anything Genesis P. Orridge ever laid on tape.

This album is still more respectable than your average Trent's-broke-and-needs-another-fix charity fundraiser release, but there hasn't really been anything genuinely exciting going on in the genre since Jim Nash died. Even the last Foetus release was a tragedy and I always thought he could do no wrong.

I grew up on pigface and kmfdm. i remember so many nights trippin out on fook when i was like twelve....surely a little young to be listening to fook yet alone tripping out. but it was worth it. when i finally came around to listening to more popular music, found little that competed and have found myself always coming back. oh, yeah, the remix album "washingmachinemouth" is even trippier. nevermind nin, pigface rips em apart and martin atkins is one of the best drummers of our time-i hear that his elbows have been known to split from playin so f-in hard! and you cant turn down en esch. a must buy for all collectors of american underground and far out music in general.

What's not to like?
It's the best of 16 Volt. Coldwave industrial metal. Good as a place to start as any I suppose. But just for the record, the verry best 16 Volt album ever isn't featured on this disc....because it didn't come out till 2007. The album I'm referring to is called "Full Black Habit", and it's incredible.

Good...not great.
I love the idea of a female fronted Industrial rock band. Android Lust serve as one of the verry few bands to even attempt such a thing and for that I give them cred. As for this album..."This Body", and "Dragonfly" are really the only songs that I am really excited about. I felt that this album was just a little too slow for my tastes...and many of the songs took too long to build up and climax...hey...kinda like a girl! Heah. Anyways, if your looking for the female version of Nine Inch Nails than look no further. Sadley, Android Lust needs a little more work.

Soundtrack for an apocalypse
If a post-apocalyptic world needed a soundtrack, Deflore's "hUMAN indu[B]strial" would be just the album for it. From the start, "Emostatico" pulls you right into a world where mental and emotional decay may as well rule supreme. "Connect" and "Experiment C-Low" continue on with what seems to be a path of self-destruction with dark and heavy riffs twisting and entwining every which way. "Emilionero" comes off like a musical version of a hot poker piercing and shattering your brain in an industrial version of Chinese water torture. Just when you think you can't handle anymore, "Lexodub" takes you from that torture chamber and tends to your everbleeding brain, with light and subtle undertones of your subconscious falling into a nightmare that's about ready to start. "Home" seems to pickup where "Lexodub" left off by pulling you further down the dank, dark rabbithole. Upon landing, "Orto D-Ossa" leads you into a wonderneverland of sorts, with thick and tremendous beats supported by what sounds like a dark angelic choir luring you further and further away from your sanity. "S-Zwein" may as well be the theme music for a sadistic teaparty with eerie squeaks and electronic creaks. For some reason I couldn't get into "La Settima Industria". "Subsound Corporation" is the cheshire cat that leads you through the looking glass back to your sanity and reality. When you come to, logic passes it off as a mere dream, until you look into the mirror and see a dimented version of what used to be your mind.

I Listen to this all the time now, it's awesome. It's a Dramatic Theme to a land gone wrong. I expect a narrator to break the eerie calm and say "many years ago in this place"
Then at times it gets awake and full of dramatic action. This is mood music, if you find yourself in a dismal mood, this won't cheer you up but will help you through it. It helps me. I like to play games like doom3 with it on. This is more atomospheric pads then anything else. I say it was definitly worth the money, I just hope there will be more soon.

Pig "Pigmata" Album Review

THE CHILD DEVIANT
Another regurgitated album via Raymond Watts (KMFDM). As always, the music is primarily guitar based industrial/nu metal, and the lyrics are-as always with Pig, vulgur, and explicit. Despite the constant lack of anything new or different...I am still a fan of the composition and vulgarity. However, I do have a major complaint with this artist,...there are never any liner notes or lyrical printouts included in the albums artwork. I like to read along with the lyrics, and Pig seems to never include that as part of the package....instead, just a bunch of blurred pictures of Raymond Watts doing nothing in Particulur. My secondary complaint, is that 'Sinsation' sill remains the best PIG album, and that was allmost a deacade ago. PIG needs to do something new....and print the damm lyrics in his CD booklits!!!!

There is no other band that sounds like them, or has the lyrical poetry that Kim brings to the table with this CD and Eurotrash. Zeromancer is no "cookie cutter" goth band. But I would recommend Eurotrash as purchase one, followed by Clone your Lover, and the DVD is pretty good too.

ASP "Weltunter" Album Review

Brilliant CD, ASP are music gods!!!
ASP have always stood out as one of the groups to best the rest in this genre combination of deep house, rock, electric pop, industrial and even soundscaping. However with Weltunter they went all out and created a masterpiece of a CD, maybe its not perfect but this is the first CD that has ever made me, someone who hates headbangers, jump up and down like a fool.

The CD starts out interesting enough with the simple title of "Intro" it starts out as a basic electronic sound but within moments picks up to give an amazing feeling of depression, despite its high sounds it still succeeds in conveying ASP's dark side.

The "Intro" immediately opens into the track "Welcome" what at first seems to be nothing more than the traditional ASP voice with some rock thrown in for good measure, but as it opens up it conveys its true feelings with a brilliant line of "Come on in and spend an hour, Or two up there in the dark tower, Where there is nothing as it seems, Follow me to where hopes die, The realm of the black butterfly, I welcome you here in my dreams." If one cant recognize this as a amazing musical feat then they don't truly understand emotion conveyed within music.

After a short pause we are brought into the track "Weltunter", now out of all the songs this is the one that most have heard, however its worth listening to all over again as the CD version is crisp and clean and you can finally hear it like it was supposed to be. If you haven't heard it, the best way to put it, is that it is a mix of deep house and rock with exaggerated lyrics. I don't want to ruin this song for anyone so I wont go into details about it.

"Stille Der Nacht" is the next track, this one is often as expressed as being the track ASP put their heart into and it shows, with brilliant lyrics and a astounding recital it blends perfectly with the mesmerizing sounds of the old ASP with a sound reminiscent of "Hast Du Mich Vermisst?", regardless its good to hear that ASP hasn't forgot their roots and can still open a can when they need to.

If there is a weak link on this CD I would have to say its the next track "Geisterjagd", for me the beat seemed a little of a low light and his singing reminds me more of a traditional Dark Wave group, not that this is bad, simply that it doesn't fit. I must say that for ASP the lyrics wernt as poetic and thoughtful as normal.

"She Wore Shadows" is an amazing feat of electronic prowess and even if the lyrics were just regular, the song itself quickly makes up for it. The lyrics though bland are surprisingly made very entertaining with ASP chanting "She wore shadows, Shadows and Skin, She wore shadows, She wore shadows, Nothing but shadows, Shadows and skin".

"Demon Love" is a unique track, it doesn't follow any of ASP's normal styles, instead it is its own. Its a very slow track, give a few lines. However what makes this song is the lyrics, well thought out and very meaningful, this could be sung to the worst music in the world and it would still convey its deep meaning, and with it being ASP you know its definitely not bad.
Now for the hard rocker of the CD, I'm not sure anything ASP has ever done can compare to "Ich Will Brennen" its simply that good. With an opening that will leave even the most seasoned ASP fan speechless and a recital that best many of their previous hard rock attempts. This song itself makes the CD worth buying.

"Hasslich" and "Eleison" I include them together as they are one after another and despite each having their own draw, neither of them truly stands out amongst so many other great songs. They are good for a few listens and are fantastic songs but they are not masterpieces as the rest of the CD is. I'm not sure how to explain it, some may like them but they are not my taste.

"Lykanthropie" is another hard rock song mixed with electronic and at some points it even seems to resemble a Ballade though not in the same line as "Die Kleine Ballade vom Schwarzen Schmetterling" but similar in areas. At the same time it stands alone with its wicked voices and downright sinister approach to music.

ASP finish this brilliant album with "Die Ruhe vor Dem Sturm" an amazing sound scape. The song is so elegant and yet so powerful one cant even explain it, its the kind of songs that depicts calm and serenity yet has the power to rock the earth, a very powerful peace and an amazing way to finish an amazing album.

ASP continues to impress and with their new offering already out I'm hoping they kept to this new brilliance they have found. 5/5 one of the best albums I have ever heard.

it's pretty decent
like all other fans, i was expecting something a little different. especially after hearing the 25-40second samples that were posted on the official ministry site. after hearing the album, its pretty good but not what one would expect. especially with the word "mix" added to the majority of the songs. but there is one thing about ministry that i've noticed thus far, they've never really have had what one would call a "traditional" remix...you know something along the lines of what nine inch nails, marilyn manson, depeche mode, rammstein, nocturne, fear factory...etc. it's more along the lines of a coal chamber remix, but with more differences. but its still pretty good.

the update mixes of "jesus built my hotrod" and "n.W.o" sound like 3 songs that crashed into each other and ended up with this weird amalgamation of all of 3 blended into 1. "n.W.o." sounds like the original mixed with the extended dance mix but minus the extra 3 minutes mixed with the new stuff. "jesus" is the original mixed with the "red line white line" version mixed with new stuff. it's interesting.

the new song "the great satan" is pretty good even adding a condolizza rice [sp?] sample at the beginning as opposed the bush samples you hear throughout it. "bloodlines" is pretty nice...not sure how to describe it except slow and forboding at the start and gets hard as it goes along.

all and all its not that bad, but it does make you wonder why no other songs were put here. especially the underrated "paisley" from the "escape from l.a." soundtrack or "tonight we murder" from the "demon knight" soundtrack. i also agree with the thought there should've been some different live songs, but its still all good. in the end, this collection is a bit like "greatest fits" minus the additions of "what about?", "so what (live)", "reload 12''", and "supernaut" and with retooled classics. still...i think its worth buying especially knowing what you getting into.

First off this is the Neubauten approved release as you'll see from the Potomak label. It is very important that you know this as there have been dodgy dealings in the past that still happen as of today. Beware of the imitations as these will go directly to the record company and not the band. The record company or Stevo was a very corrupt man and took all the money while giving the band absolutely nothing. Hopefully this will not go on any further but beware of any dirty tricks that may sneak up on the unsuspecting buyer.

For those that are only just getting into Neubauten the above warning should kept in mind. You do want to support the artist don't you? Hell if you're not keen on CDs you can download at Neubauten's website....it might cost a little bit but.....it's better than buying from Stevo.

Ever since I first heard their first CD (Cold Steel World), I immediately got this remix album. The mixes along with Pneumatic Detatch mixing one along with facing off Terrorfakt in Black Hoods In Brooklyn, each mix brings a new and different meaning to aggressive beat making. Also, their B-Side tracks (Elimination Chamber, Corrupt, & God Of Killers) were acceptable as well. I havn't yet heard their earlier album, Reconstruction, but I heard it was excellent and a RARE CD at that. For all Terrorfakt fans, get this REMIX album, Cold Steel World, and Reconstruction.

Thirwell ,AKA Clint Ruin, had for many years on his FOETUS related projects projected a wild enthusiasm for music and lyrics. The development of his unique sound made an incredible peak on "NAIL" and I feel this WISEBLOOD release with Mossiman from SWANS takes that sound to the next level- something I thought not possible. Ministry "Filth Pig" Album Review

Best Album Ever
This highly controversial album is either loved or hated by its listeners. It's either embraced for not being Psalm 69 II, or despised for not being Psalm 69. What seems to get lost in the shuffle between the bickering as to whether this was a drug induced misstep, or a calculated move to divide the fan base, is the fact that this is a very solid album.

This album is not easy to digest, and I have to admit, that after one listen, I wasn't very impressed. Sure, songs like "Lava" and "Dead Guy" blew me away after the initial listen, but "Reload", the title track, and "Game Show" just didn't interest me at all. After popping this CD into my computer's CD Rom just about every single afternoon for a couple of weeks, it finally clicked. I finally understood the album and understood the grooves and anger that went into each song. After about 10 listens, I began to worship songs like "Game Show" and "Reload". "Game Show" is like a slowed down version of Master of Puppets and "Crumbs" and "Filth Pig" are just songs that I can't help but scream along to, although they are pretty repetitive. My biggest complaint is that I couldn't get a louder sound out of my monitor speakers. No matter how high I cranked up the volume, it just didn't seem to satisfy me. To appreciate this album, you just have to have this stuff vibrate through you. Another wonderful thing about this album is that each song is unique and has its own personality. Granted, each one of these personalities can sneak into your home at night and stab you in the back 35 times, but its easy to differentiate each song from the next. When I listen to Slayer's Reign in Blood and Sepultura's Beneath the Remains, the songs begin to sound the same, if not very similar to each other, and it gets boring after a while.

This album should be appreciated for what it is, not what it was "expected" to be.

Black Dice "Broken Ear Record" Album Review

Damn thing's crazy.
This was my first Black Dice album, and I, like most people when they first hear Black Dice, had this reaction: "What the f**k is this s**t?"

I was a little shocked by just how far this band was from making anything remotly close to "music," yet...you can snap your fingers and dance to this album! As weird and arty and crazy as it sounds, there are some discernable melodies and hooks in with the madness.

Standout tracks would have to be the creaking groovy "Snarly Yow" and "Smiling Off", which has some really messsed-up guitar and a great drum groove. This is also one of the most psychedelic albums I've heard in a while. It's music that makes you feel stoned without getting stoned. That's a great feat, in my opinion.

So, if you enjoy electronic music without all that Chemical-brothers "one more time" [..], this is for you.

Excellent for non-musicians
I just listen to music, don't play an instrument or read music. This set greatly helped me know just WHAT was making the sounds I heard, and what the various instruments are capable of doing and the range they have. I still can't distinguish a violin from a viola very well---but I'm getting better. Overall I'm quite satisfied and plan to see if my grandchildren are interested.

Circle of Dust "Disengage" Album Review

A fun and very exciting album
I was very turned on by the intensity of the music on this cd. Klay Scott is what i'd call the alternative to Trent Reznor. He is a musical genious much like Trent is and this cd is ample proof of this claim. I like how the tracks can either be danceable or hard enough to be headbanger-worthy. This is easily one of the best industrial albums to ever be released. On the album's highlight, ''Chasm'', Klay's vocals are attached to a highly catchy Rammstein-like riff. The price of the album is worth it just for that track alone. Also, on ''Mesmerize'', An unexpectedly slower track on the cd, Klay shows that he can even carry a slower song and make it sound good. ''Mesmerize'' almost rivals ''Chasm'' for the album's best track. ''Waste Of Time'', ''Chasm [The remix]'', ''You Are Fragile'', and ''Yurasuka'' are also all seriously banging tracks. With its dark apocalyptic sounds, I'm very greatful to have been able to find this cd as this is a quite superior industrial effort. In the midst of all the fun on this album, I must say that my only beef with the album is that there a few weak tracks that could've been left off here [What's the point of ''Deadly Love''? It's only like 30 seconds long and it never gets started!] However, A word of warning: Christian music fans who'll inevitably buy this cd because of the christian label on it should be forewarned that you will not find any of the usual christian content on this cd that you come to expect to hear on a christian cd. In fact, When this album was made, Klay made it perfectly clear in an HM Magazine interview [This interview can be read in its entirety on the internet] that he's very bitter against the church for the way he's been treated [As evidenced in some of the photos on the inside cover of this album] and he's also very bitter against the christian music industry as a whole [Pretty much because of how he was screwed around by the now-defunct R.E.X. Records]. If you can get past those things, You should have an easy time enjoying this album. Reccomended strictly for fans of Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, Gravity Kills, Filter, and Stabbing Westward.

Psyclon Nine "Inri" Album Review

Harsh, Dark, and Gritty--just the way I like my Electro
"Psyclon Nine"....it sends delightful tremors down my spine as I think about them, and not only does it make me want to actually bang my head a few times, it makes me even want to sing along, though I guarantee if you want to sing along to this, you'll have a hard time grating your voice to a possesed, shrieking whisper.

Because that's all it is. While some people might get annoyed with this, this is INDUSTRIAL EBM. This is the terrorcore. This music fits right up with the genre, and it's one of the best. If "God Module" pisses you off, this isn't the remedy. If you're familiar with "God Module", this album might top it.

The lyrics...they're breathtakingly good, and they don't go over the board with trying to rhyme everything together. The songs aren't really about Anti-God so much as it is questioning the existance of the human God man created. "Behind a Serrated Grin" is one main example of such a song. They're very flipped about the subject, as you can tell from "Hymn to the Angel's Descent". These two songs are hits in this album, and I guarantee you purchase this. You will NOT be sorry.

Decent, but different singer.
(I'd actually give this 2.5 stars, and the Blessing of Curses 3.5 stars, FWIW)

I was excited to get this album because I was a fan of the first album. It wasn't the best techno/industrial/whatever album, but it was good enough, and I actually really liked the vocals.

From the very first track, I could tell that they had a new singer. I'm mostly writing this review as a warning.. if you can listen to this CD on its own without expectations, you'll probably enjoy it as much as the first, but if you are expecting to hear the same vocalist, you'll end up being disappointed.

(and if anyone knows if the old singer is in a new band, I'd love to know...)

vampire pop
if i was asked to describe this band's peticular sound, i'd simply have two words- vampire pop. this album is a beautiful spin on the trip hop sound. the vocalist has and amazingly original rhaspy, almost drugged vocal style that slowly sucks one in and never quite lets go.

this album and this band are one of those rare gems one comes across...unfortunately the future of the band and the possibility of album number 3 look quite grim.

Nine inch Nails "With Teeth" Album Review

Captivating Sadness
I was first introduced to Nine Inch Nails when I saw a Quake 3 trailer which mentioned that it had music composed by NIN. I never really got to hear the Quake 3 music but the association was enough to make a good first impression. At that time, I hardly knew Rock, let alone Industrial.

Incidentally, NIN was never played by any of my friends from whom I used to get my music in the early days, around the time that I discovered Rock and Heavy Metal. A few years later, The first time I heard their music was when a fried pushed some of it on to me. Yet, I didn't take much notice. Instead, I got four discs of Ozzy/Black Sabbath stuff, none of which I really like. On my last trip to the store, I noticed With Teeth on the stands. It was selling for... hold your breath... INR 750! Gave up on the purchase.

Recently I made my first purchase on Amazon and the experience turned out to be so good that I went back on a shopping spree. I ended up ordering four Audio CDs and three movie DVDs. With Teeth by Nine Inch Nails was one of them and it arrived along with Prodigy's "The Fat of the Land". The first day I listened to With Teeth only once and then totally tripped on Prodigy. But somewhere in the back of my head, the notes from With Teeth's first song, "All the Love" got stuck.

Over the next few days, the notes kept strengthening. They made me listen to NIN while I wanted to listen to Prodigy. And the more I listened, the more I got hooked. Now I'm hooked bad! With Teeth is a very dark and depressing album. With the slow industrial tunes of gloom (I never thought it was possible to make gloomy Industrial, though this album is probably their least synthetic), you've got gloomy lyrics too. Sample this:

> you can choose to believe
> you keep looking but you can't find the woods
> while you're hiding in the trees

Hyper stuff. I feel sorry for Prodigy and System of a Down. I'm not gonna touch their discs for quite some time until my NIN-mania takes a break.

The Damage Manual "Limited edition" Album Review

Little Damage Done, Satisfying nonetheless.
I was a bit suprised to see that Damage Manual held it together long enough to do a second full length album. It is true that this is a "Damage Manual" album, but it's not entirely the same.

It should be noted that Jah Wobble and Geordie Walker have been replaced. Chris Connelly handles some of the guitar work, but for the most part the Bass and Guitar duties fall to Steven Seibold (previously working for Information Society of all things!)

Ironically enough, Geordie Walker's absence (due to the Killing Joke reunion) does not prevent some parts of the record from sounding like Killing Joke's lighter songs, which inadvertantly makes it sound like they could be demos from the "Murder Inc." era. This isn't a bad thing.

All in all, Connelly, Martin Atkins and Seibold hold it together well. It's a likeable album although less adventurous than the "1" EP and the Self Titled album. If the Connelly/David Bowie comparisons hold accurate, it is reasonable to assume that Damage Manual is his "Tin Machine".

Alexander Hacke "Sanctuary" Album Review

This record is a impressive portrait of how diverse and talented Alexander Hacke is -from the movie soundtrack "Sonntag" to the throat singing in "Brush/Throat" to the rock elements of "Sanctuary" and back to electronic "All american Happy Hour" -it is like a journey from one part of Alexander Hacke to another -no wonder he calls it his Road record ..The ease in which he moves in the different music realms -electronic as acoustic is amazing and proves that Alexander Hacke is a lot more than just the bass player of Einstürzende Neubauten. My favorite tracks are "Per Sempre Butterfly" with Gianna Nannini for its melancholic romantisism,"Sanctuary" for its hard core power and Seven - the mixture of experimental sounds and heavy beats is great -I can listen to the record over and over again and always hear something new and intriguing. The small hidden video documentary of Danielle de Picciotto is fun too - most of the many musicans participating on the record can be seen here.

Soman "Unleash" Album Review

Old-school. You know the routine. Time to go.
This is a neat little EP, and I had the luck of seeing Soman perform live on the VNV Nation Formation Tour in the US. And damn if I don't listen to this EP more than I listen to all of VNV now.

This is old-school sounding electronica for industrial fans. The songs were tightly-knit, extremely well-produced, and as cool as hell. The beats are absolutely relentless, which each song containing MANY, MANY different drum sounds and motions. The mainstay of these songs is the 4x4 beat, but there is so much drum activity going on you won't care. Distortion abounds, and it is wonderful!

The synths follow their own little runs without too much progression, but enough to keep the songs on-track and interesting.

Many of the songs use build-ups and break-downs to great effect. This is music to play LOUD. It's exciting to listen to and it really gets your blood flowing. If Amazon ever posts samples, I wouldn't necessarily decide whether to buy based on them. You can hear Soman's work in remixes of "Chrome" by VNV Nation and "Shelter" by Combichrist. If this quality of songwriting gets put into album form, you be sure that it will be an album to remember.

If you do NOT have any of the other Leaether Strip CD's, then grab this one. Well worth it if you do NOT have his older releases. Otherwise there is nothing new here... Just re-releases of older cd's. It is a good collection without a doubt, but as said in the other review, its been done before. I do believe this is probably the best, Best of... I have every other one as well, and I do think that every single track on this collection is very good. No bad songs here... Though My two personal favorates are Reberth of Agony, and Retrospective.... for anyone looking for more. If you don't know Leaether Strip, and looking for a first, Buy this. It is probably one of the best Industrial/EBM cd's out there...and pardon the argument of what industrial is....Look it up if you are not sure. I feel you can not go wrong with this cd.. .Unless, you own every single other one.

In 1997 ARDITI was formed when H Möller and M Björkman started recording songs inspired by the Italian Futurist Movement of the early 20th Century. These songs were never released since both members were then too busy with their other bands. H Möller has been active with PUISSANCE since 1993 and have with that band released five full length albums among other releases. The last 2 Puissance albums have been released on Blooddawn/Regain Records. M Björkman is the vocalist of the Swedish Metal band Algaion that released a number of CD's between 1994-98.

I Start Counting "Catalogue" Album Review

Not a bad compilation.
This is a sort of greatest hits CD that collects songs from the band's previous two CD's (yup... a greatest hits collection of two CD's). Anyway you not only get original recordings (some remastered for a slightly better recording) you also get some remixes as well. This band was a bit hit and miss with their music, and this CD is not much better. Still you get some decent tracks. Here's a breakdown of some notable stuff:

STILL SMILING [FORTRAN 5 MIX] - This one is actually a good deal better than the original. Very lush and rhythmic at the same time. A good early electronic vibe to it.

MONEY [HOLGER F5 MIX] - Just as annoying as the original mix. Just more messy industrial sounds thrown around. All this song does is play the word "money" in samples along with freaked out (and not in a good way) beats and avantgarde sounding rhythms. Not for me.

LETTERS TO A FRIEND [MILLER MIX] - To be frank the original recording from My Translucent Hands is better. This one is much more understated with a lot of deep bass that muddies up the mix.

Mediocre
Excellent start with Hallelujah chorus and then fizzled after that with a few intermittent high points. I just did not like this particular package of songs. Too much new age sound toward the end. Wish I would have read the other reviews before purchase.

Skin Chamber "Wound" Album Review

Good proto-sludge.
Skin Chamber, Wound (Roadrunner, 1991)

Imagine my surprise to find out that Skin Chamber were actually a Controlled Bleeding side project recently. Skin Camber have far more in common with early Godflesh (back when they were still a sludge metal band) than they do with Controlled Bleeding. But there they are, the ultra-prolific Paul Lemos and sidekick Chris Moriarty, pounding out a weird upside-down cross between late-eighties industral (think harder-edged Nitzer Ebb here, rather than the more danceable stuff, or early Chemlab) and slow, brutal metal (Celtic Frost's more introspective material, maybe). One thing it is that Controlled Bleeding too often weren't is listenable. If you're into that sort of thing, of course. A friend of mine, back when Wound came out, had it recommended to her because she was into nine inch nails and Master/Slave Relationship. I don't think she ever patronized that record store again...

Lemos sounds as if he's gargling nails while being burned alive by lava. It's a beautiful thing. *** ½

Ministry "Side Trax" Album Review

It's not just bad remastering!
The problem here goes beyond just bad remastering. The first second or two of the first track, "Man Should Surrender", is actually CUT OFF!! This wouldn't matter so much if it were a song that fades in, but this song starts right on the beat. The original vinyl is the only way to hear this song begin on the first beat. The PAILHEAD cd that preceded this one made the same mistake with this same song, although not as much was cut off there as on SIDE TRAX. I bought this CD partly to correct that problem, but no such luck. At least the other Ministry reissue, EARLY TRAX, corrected this problem with the song, "Every Day Is Holloween". The begining of that song was butchered this same way on the TWELVE INCH SINGLES cd.

now he's angrier
As you probably already know, this is basically 12-inch Singles + 4 more tracks & 2 remixes, which feels like a complete album... but unfortunately leaves out "Cold Life", & all the more reason to hang on to your copy of of 12-Inch Singles. I've already listened to the 1st 3 tracks way too many times. "Everyday is Halloween" is the 1st Ministry song I ever heard (early 90s for me), & I liked it cuz it was synthpop with a very dark edge. Here're my comments on the "newer" tracks:

"He's Angry" - mmmm... could this title be in reference to Al being forced to create new-wave music he supposedly didn't want to? ;-) either way, this could easily be put on the Twitch album (still 1 of my favorite Ministry albums)

"Move" - this feels a little like Thrill Kill Kult (or kinda what TKK would later make their own)... & with them both in the same Chicago Wax Trax scene, it makes sense

"I'm Falling" - whoa, is this early Cure (*cough*, Faith album with the flange)? That's what I thought when I 1st heard it... then the vocals come in, & well, not quite Curish anymore ;-) but it still doesn't even sound like early Ministry at all! Either way, if you just forget for a second who it is, it's actually a very cool song... & you can't help but bop your head along, i might add. the remix is cool too

"Overkill" - now it feels a bit like Bauhaus, Joy Division, or something like it w/ a repetitive guitar riff... vocals are more monotonous than the other tracks, but it's not bad

Revolting Cocks "Beers Steers and Queers" Album Review

Texas is the place!!!!!!
This just rocks. I was already a Ministry fan when I had heard of Revolting Cocks, originally from "Beers, Steers, & Queers" that was on an 80s compilation from a dance club I had frequented during the 90s. I wasn't cool (or old enough, heh) to be apart of the late 80s WaxTrax days in Chicago, & didn't live there either. Then, after figuring out my favorite Ministry is the middle Ministry, all these RevCo albums were right up my alley. It often feels to me like this is happy music for pissed off people, heh. Some songs are dancey, some are really aggressive, & the others, you're just not sure where to put em. Either way, if you're in a bad mood but still have enuff energy, this will suit... it you're REALLY mad at the world, you might have to put on another Ministry album (think Psalm 69) cuz this might be too toe-tapping & 'dancey' at times. Another interesting note: if you're not sure whether or not to get this or the original Beers Steers & Queers, get THIS one because it has "Cattle Grind" (which apparantly is noted here as previously unreleased), & "At the Top", which are both missing from that one... but these are a couple of the better songs.

"In the Neck" - will make you wanna raise your head & your arms to the sky & shout along. "Cattle Grind" makes you feel like you're in a fast-paced horror flick or a White Zombie video... or both. Yes, I'm well aware this was before WZ even became known to the mainstream, but you can definitely hear where 90s industrial/metal bands like NIN & WZ got their influence from (& interesting to note that there's a pic w/ a VERY young Trent Reznor on the back of this cd! however, I'm not sure if/how he was involved w/ RevCo on this particular compilation). "Stainless Steel Providers" is definitely club friendly, 1 of my favorites here... I love dancey songs, so sue me :-P "Something Wonderful" feels more 'Ministry-ish' of all of these here. If you're still wondering why you "Can't Sit Still" by the next track, it's cuz your foot is getting tired of tapping. Then your ears are addicted to the bassline on "At the Top", the slowest song here... but 1 of my faves. The last 2 tracks are good, but can be tiring at the same time... & like another reviewer pointed out, can get a little monotonous. Plus, I never listen to all 3 BSQ versions in 1 sitting. I'm not always in the mood for this cd, but when I am, it's the best sounding thing to blast out of my speakers... loudly, of course. Other Ministry releases also worth checking out, if you haven't already: The Land of Rape & Honey, The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste, & esp. if you're a Ministry completist, the newer released Side Trax compilation.

My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult "Diamonds and Daggerz" Album Review

One-of-a-kind project
"Diamonds & Daggerz" is an interesting prospect; it's impossible to really say what it is. It's not exactly an album of original material, and yet it's not just a remix album, either. Each of the tracks incorporates elements from the best of TKK into entirely new 'songs'. Best listened to as a full-length release from start to finish, each of the tracks builds and builds in a non-stop megamix that covers all of TKK's style, moving from groovy lounge disco through giddy go-go and finishing with full-on aggressive stomp. The early tracks like "Devil Rider" and "Mz Disco" sample elements from more laid back tracks like "Blue Buddha" and "Mindcage"; the middle section of the album echoes "Hit & Run Holiday"; the final segment of the album gets darker until it climaxes in an orgasmic finale of "Dope Kult", which blends "Devil Does", "A Daisy Chain 4 Satan", and "Kooler than Jesus". TKK is probably the only band that could do this kind of a project; I can't imagine anybody else having the right material for it. Typically great artwork, too.

Revolting Cocks "Big Sexy Land" Album Review

One of the best - REVCO
Ministry side project that plays some unbelievably good industrial music. The album opens up with the fast-paced "38" which has Luc VanAcker on vocals. As far as I know, "38" is about a soccer riot that happened at Heysel stadium in Belgium in May 1985 that killed 38 people. One of my favorite songs on the CD. "We Shall Cleanse the World" is another dancey-yet-abrasive song with complex drum beat and a great bass line. Great for driving. "Attack Ships On Fire", which features some excellent Bill Rieflin drumming, is another great song. The remaining songs on this album also noteworthy are "No Devotion" which has a sinister and dark aspect to it, "TV mind" - very strange, "Union Carbide" - harsh abrasive industrial. The other songs and mixes are OK.

Also look into the REVCO album's "Linger Ficken Good" and "Beers, Steers, and Queers". Both are 5 stars.

excellent album. listeneing to it for years. used to work out to it. pretty amazing energy. awesome mix of samples and real instruments. truly innovative. can't think of anything really like it. Used to love to read Alternative Press magazines' Jason Pettigrew's awesome account of their tour and he illustrated the craziness and mayhem which took place back in the early amazing years of Al J.'s industrial crew. The band had the most unique assortment of characters and to see the them on cover of Alternative Press then was cool. really amazing mixture of people. WOW ---Time to wake up!

Another Brilliant CD by Android Lust
Like the previous remix cd, Evolution, by Android Lust - this is a beautiful collaboration of new music and remixed songs by Shikhee. The acoustic songs are very nice relaxing songs and there are also the harder more gothic-industrial songs that accent this album. It is a must have for Android lust fans. Most of the remixes come from songs from the album: the Dividing, whereas one comes from Resolution and a few from the single: the Want. I would recommend this CD to anyone who is first exploring Android Lust.
