The last few days I have been tweakin on the site. Updating a whole bunch of stuff.

Today, I was looking in the logs that report on search engine activity. I can sort it all out by just about any detail. Which search engines are crawling us, how often, how many pages they index, bla, bla, bla. Good info to have so you know where you stand with all the search engines. Well I was looking at the keywords list, and 16 people have recently found our site searching for the work anger. Now we all know that it because the band Anger of the Lamb is mentioned here several times. All 16 of these hits were from live search, so I went to live search and, well, searched for the word Anger. After 20 pages I could not find one link to our site. I stopped looking after 20 pages. I figure these are 16 fuckin pissed off people with a lot of anger to be looking past 20 pages of results.

As a matter of fact, I think I will do an anger show! Weird shit gets me motivated to do shows. Angry people and donations seem to do it.

Today is the first day of my vataion.

Lets see if I can get some work done here. 

But then again, if I am posting weird posts, that means I have something cooking that you will enjoy. 

I have changed some things on the site. Backend stuff that you will not see up front. In order to combat the huge amount of spam we are receiving. Please let me know if you have any problems with the site, commenting and the like.

While I am at it I will mention that there should be at least one more show before 2008. I know, I know.

Industrial Radio radio is back online. The /live page currently does not have the request feature as of right now. Going to the /live page will now play the 128 kbps feed in your default player. If anyone has any problems with it working, let me know.

 My schedule this coming week is lighter than normal, so look for a show or two. Although there may be one latter today. I am two weeks behind with getting the radio station going, then the windows update problem. 

Thanks to those of you that send in donations via paypal. I don't know if you want your name listed or not, so I will just say THANKS! You know who you are.  And yes I know the donate button is small and way at the bottom of the page, I wasn't going to even mention it, but its there if you care to click it and help support the cause.

The Now playing/Playlist/Song Request page has the ability for YOU to add tracks to the queue to be played. Requesting a track also acts as a vote. Every time a track is requested its score increases. Request your favorite artists often via the request interface.

You guys know this show is all about US, so the request feature really excited me. It gives you a change to control what is played.

    The forum is up now. Thanks to those of you who posted test posts for me. I had to reset the whole forum, so, yes your tests posts are gone. Feel free to repost them. Check out the forums, and leave feedback on everything.

I know how much you guys loved the forums. I am currently testing out a handful of forums that will integrate with the site. I want the forum to integrate right in, without the need for a separate login or username, and have the same look and feel (which will be changing). There are several that will do what I want, and I am testing them out on a test site. Go ahead and sign up here for now, whichever forum I end up with, you username and password will access the forum also. If you run a forum somewhere, feel free to give me some feedback on this topic. Bottom line, we should have a forum no later than Monday.

Here is the latest.

I had to update my server software to accommodate some of the other sites that I host on my servers. In the process a lot of things got broke. I have spent the last week and a half fixing them all. I had 2 choices with the IRP site. I  could spend endless hours putting it all back together again, or start fresh. Yep, I started fresh.

The good news is, I still have all the old forum posts and such. I intend to start a new forum with the new site, and I “Hope” to import all those old posts back in there. I would really hate to loose them all, there were a couple years of posts there. 

The other good news is that if I am working on the site, that means I will be working on the show. I know I have said “New show soon” about a million times. I actually have about 4 shows done, just need to put the finishing touches on them and get em out. Lots of great new music for your head.  

The new format of this site, (yes I will update the theme to better reflect IRP) should be much easier for me to manage. I am sure you all got tired of all the spam posts on the old site, and fixing that just seemed to be an never ending task.

Anyway, back to working on all of this.

We have the request feature of the new radio station, which is very cool for several reasons.
One, it allows you a change to decide what is played.
Two, every time you request a track it also acts as a vote, because the score of that track increases. This helps to determine the type of music you want to listen to.
So request often!!

Well, here is something I never do. I just dont like playing this game. As soon as I mention another podcast, then others will expect the same. So, I guess if you want me to share your show with my minions, beat me to an interview with one of my favorite bands.

Why I didn't go to this show is beyond me. Must have been that day I had my head up my ass. But lucky for us my friend Michael OD not only went, he interviewed the band for us. He is such a good guy, I don't mind sharing my minions with him, and you guys deserve to listen to his show.

I get asked a few questions quite regularly. Questions like why I don't play the favs like Skinny Puppy, throbbing Gristle etc. Or, harder stuff, darker stuff, lighter stuff, and so on. I have updated the About page in hopes of answering some of these questions. I used a hypothetical play list idea to try describing my method of selecting tracks for a show. Although the actual process is much more emotional than described, the idea has me curious. The one good thing about this approach is that some of the music that I have wanted to play for over a year, and just haven't, will eventually get played. So I am going to give it a try for a show or two, and see what happens. I am sure I will add some emotion in the end, some tracks just don't belong together on the same show for example. For the next month or so I will put away all my music I can not play on the show, listening only the the music I can play and see what rises to the top. Should be interesting.

 For those who are curious, here is the smart play list layout.

Playlist: IRP All (all the music I can play on the show)

Playlist: IRP Played (music I have already played on the show)

Smart Playlist: IRP To Rate ( Match all | Playlist is IRP All | Rating is 0 | Limit to 25 items selected by random) Gota get em rated

Smart Playlist: IRP To Play (Match all | Playlist is IRP All | Playlist is not IRP Played | Rating is greater than 3 | Limit to 6 items selected by most often played) This should generate my top 6 tracks that haven't been played on the show, and would be a good start for a show

Smart Playlist: IRP To Play Again (Playlist is IRP all |Rating is greater than 3)  Don't want to forget the favorites we found on the show do we?

Now that I have typed that all out, what about one more smart play list as follows:

Change IRP to play Again to  (limit to 1 or 2 items selected by random) and IRP to play to (limit to 4 or 5 items selected by most often played)

and add new smart playlist IRP Next Show (Playlist is IRP to play | Playlist is IRP to play again | limit to 6 or 7 items)

This would give us the top 4 or 5 tracks never played on the show, and a random 1 or 2 favorite tracks we played before.

 Yes, this should be top secret, but go ahead and steal it for your show, its about getting the music to the people and I have a LOT of music to get out!

Leave some feedback in the forums if your any good at the playlist stuff.

When I first received the CD Plugged from Dalton of Skulk:Partition[Root] I couldnt stop listening to it. We played a few tracks on the last show, but I had a hard time selecting them. I wanted to play tracks that would give the listener an idea of what they are all about, but the sound is just so dynimac, you really need to listen to the whole CD to really appreciate it.

This is the show I should have done 6 months ago, all the tracks I wanted to play, a short interview, and a video!

Jon: Other than what’s in the bio on your site, anything else your want the world to know?

Dalton: First of all we'd like to thank you Jon, for the interview and playing our songs in your show, it's really amazing.

Well, we're glad to be part of this band, we use it as a scape valve to express our deepest feelings and experiences.
Machines are awesome on this process, they never forget, they are good listeners and they make possible everything we want.

Jon: Plugged was not originally released as a free download, what made you decide to make it a free download?

We made it free one year later from it's release. The scenario for independent bands is hard. If you don't have a big label helping you, it's hard to get popular. We just figured out we could reach more people making it free and downloadable (Click here for the CD download)  Even this way we still sell CDs via internet, shows and some stores here in Brazil and some countries on Europe. People who really enjoy the band wants the CD.
 

Jon: What are you working on now?

Dalton: Right now we are working to spread our first videoclip, released last august. Recently we got it available on the Brazilian's MTV website, MTV Overdrive. It's a simple video but we are very happy with the final result, our thanks to Jorge Takan, the director.

Besides we're testing some new sounds, more powerfull synths, new softwares, etc. There is nothing concrete, there are few ideas emerging for a new work.

Jon: What and when can we expect some more?

Dalton: It's really hard to predict it! We're on a creative process, so we don't really know how long would it take.

This year we released a "new" work, a cover for Cyndi Lauper's Shebop song (availabe at http://www.myspace.com/skulkpartitionroot). I said "new" in double brackets because we play this song from a long time on the show. This cover should be part of Plugged, but we decided to not put it on the CD for copyright reasons.

Woman ordered to pay record firms $220,000 for 24 illegal downloads:

DULUTH, Minn. — The recording industry won a key fight Thursday against illegal music downloading when a federal jury found a Minnesota woman shared copyrighted music online and levied $220,000 in damages against her.

In the mean time Radiohead is selling their new album online for "Its up to you". Thats right, you name the price you are willing to pay for this album. No record company's involved, its up to you do decide what you are willing to pay the artist for their work.

The Secret Meeting is a collaboration between kaRIN & Statik of the band Collide, and Dean Garcia from the band Curve.

You all know how much I love Collide. The way kaRIN and Statik take care of business, they just don't need a record label. In my opinion a label would just destroy the beautiful thing they continue to produce. I have absolutely no problem paying full price for a full quality CD from full quality artists such as these. I highly recommend you support them and do the same. When I know my hard earned bucks are going straight to the artist enabling them to continue to bring me the sounds I so enjoy, its a no brainier for me. To quote Statik from The Secret Meeting site "I just want to make music that doesn't suck…thats all." You all know my criteria for choosing music to play on the show, if it doesn't suck, ill play it. Considering how much Collide we have played over the years, I would have to say Statik is making music that doesn't suck. Go check out The Secret Meeting, and make sure you tell kaRIN Jonny sent ya, she always gets a somewhat confused kick out of it, and then sends me an email. While your doing that, I am gong to work on the next episode of Industrial Radio, and share with you some more music that doesn't suck, and you wont even get sued for downloading it.
