Dallas Reunion uproar

First off, I would like to say that I am in shock as to what kind of media waves this Dallas Reunion has caused. When I got involved a few months back in helping to promote the event, I never in a million years could have thought that it would become the disaster that it has. I approached the coordinators of the event, telling them that I was a huge fan of the show and wanted to do whatever I could to help out with the promotion. That is what I did - I put together a MySpace page and a Blog for them and also distributed postcard fliers. Like The Ultimate Dallas website, we just wanted to help make the event a raging success.

I have no idea what went wrong, as I was not privileged to any insider information as to how meetings or planning went for the event. I am really sorry that it turned out like this, because it has tarnished what could have been a wonderful memory for so many fans from all over the world. In my opinion, no blame should be put on the cast, as they did everything they could to sign autographs, talk to fans, and be personable. You could tell that they really appreciated all the fans that turned out and wanted to provide them a good time.

Star Wars Fan Days 2 coverage & Bruce Campbell clips

We just put up our coverage of last weekend's Star Wars Fan Days 2, which featured Bruce Campbell, Dave Prowse (Darth Vader), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), the voice cast of The Clone Wars movie and TV series, Steve Sansweet (Fan Relations for Lucasfilm), Robert Watts (producer of original Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies), and many more actors and artists. Scotoma Movie Geek Feed was built from my frustration of constantly rambling around on the internet looking for the latest news that I cared about. I thought it would be cool to be able to get all the news in one place and then venture where I wanted to go from there. My whole idea was to create a sort of Drudge Report for movies. On that note, I'm sure it's a miserable failure. Haha. It basically covers news about sci-fi, action, horror, family, animated, and any sub-genres of the above.

We've just posted a review for Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying's tribute to Arnold Schwarzennegger and his films. The project is called Austrian Death Machine and the album is full of ridiculously funny lyrics and an Ahhnuld impersonator that is pretty darn good. Go check out the review here.

Mark Millar & Tony Harris at Lone Star Comics

We had the opportunity to go out to Lone Star Comics in Dallas yesterday afternoon and talk to Wanted / War Heroes / Wolverine scribe Mark Millar and War Heroes / Spider-man / X-Men artist Tony Harris. Both guys are top-notch and did their best to make everyone feel important and sign and do as many sketches as they could in two hours. It was very cool of them to come out to greet their fans, as they were on a layover on their way to Alabama for another stop on their War Heroes promotional tour. They could have just sat in the airport, drinking in a bar and hanging out, but decided to trek across town fighting traffic in the peak rush hours.

Mark Millar told us that he absolutely loved the Wanted movie and worked on the film all the way through the end of production. He stated that he even wrote some of the voice-overs for Wesley. When asked if he would be involved in the making of the sequel, he stated very strongly that of course he would. He said that he would basically write the original story and then hand it over to a team of writers for them to flesh out. He also seemed extremely pumped about Kick-A$! going into production. Item of interest: Mark seems to have a strange fixation on spongy American desserts (Twinkies, Hostess Cupcakes, etc).

Tony Harris insinuated that things were moving forward on the War Heroes film and everything looked good. He said that he really didn’t know how faithful to the comic they would stay, as he doesn’t know the extent of his involvement in the production yet and it’s too early in negotiations to really tell anything. He stated that in the end, the director basically does what he wants.

Overall, the signing went great. There was around 80 people in attendance and they all walked away happy with their sketches and autographs. Thanks to Mark Millar and Tony Harris for sharing some time with all us DFW fans and Lone Star Comics for hosting them.

I’ve posted a couple of photos I took with my phone camera. As is the case, our digital camera crashed out after two pictures were taken. You’ll have to excuse the rough quality. The guys were kind of pressed for time and couldn’t primp themselves for every picture. We’ll post a couple more later.

If you're in the area, Scotoma Events will be out at the Arlington Cinemark Tinseltown 9 at Six Flags Mall. We'll be waiting in line for hours to get into the midnight showing of the new Clone Wars movie. We'll be having a FREE special screening of the ENTIRE original animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars Micro Series - all 25 episodes uncut and compiled together in movie form! We're getting geared up for the release of the latest chapter in the Star Wars saga that hits theaters on August 15th.

We are very sorry to say that KISS Karnival TX has been cancelled due to low ticket sales. We will most definitely be issuing refunds to the original PayPal accounts that the ticket payments came from. Again, we want to say that we are very sorry for any inconvenience this causes for people, but it was unavoidable at this point. GordonandtheWhale.com, the extremely brilliant movie website I moonlight (or sunlight?) for is giving away free passes for an advanced screening of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor on Tuesday, July 29th. An evening with Jaws on the beach

We attended the JAWS screening at Lynn Creek Park at Joe Pool Lake on Monday night. It was a blast. The screen was set up right on the shoreline of the lake and gave the event a great atmosphere. As usual, I forgot to shoot any photos at the beginning of the night, so we're stuck with some dark shots of the crowd and the screen. We got there around 8 and they had to wait about 45 minutes for it to get dark enough for the projector and screen. There was around 150 to 200 people of all ages in attendance. It was really very well organized, the picture actually looked really good, and the sound system was great as well. We were pretty impressed. They even had a mobile concession stand there, selling popcorn, sodas, and other stuff. They were also giving out Uptown Theater cups,magnets, and pens. I'd like to give a big shout of thanks to Elspeth McDonald, Uptown Theater Grand Prairie, and The City of Grand Prairie for putting this together.

Scotoma Events at Wanted advanced screening

We got a chance to see Wanted early and it was absolutely definitely worth it! This film is so incredibly well done. Any fan of action films should go see it immediately. WARNING: Do not take children to this film! When it says under 17, that's what they mean! The cinematography and direction alone are worth your time and money. While you're at it, check out director Timur Bekmambetov's other films - Night Watch and Day Watch. This movie was the surprise hit of last weekend, raking in over $50 million which is about $20 million more than was expected by it's studio - Universal. It was only around $11 million shy of first place, which was a Disney / Pixar film debut. That's amazing, considering you would think that a Disney / Pixar movie would be extremely ahead of it's competition in ticket sales.

Scotoma at The Incredible Hulk advanced screening

The Kid and I went to check out the advanced screening of The Incredible Hulk last Monday night. Scotoma hosted some guests who were lucky enough to win tickets by answering the extremely hard (haha) question of "What color was The Hulk in the first issue of the comic book?" The answer is grey. Free passes were given to us by the awesome guys at GordonandtheWhale.com. There was a line all the way around the outside wall of the theater lobby. Quite a few people didn't even get in. Hope everyone who went had a good time and got some free swag. There were posters of different sizes, t-shirts, hats, comic books, and all kinds of other cool stuff they were giving away free. We put about 200 Hulk comics out on the lobby desk and they were gone in amatter of about 5 minutes. Crazy.
