Hours of "guitar hero 2" and a few cocktails created a need to step outside for fresh air. A great atmosphere for completely random conversation. At some point the topic of the moment moved to Myspace and the evolution of its young existence. One of the party goers commented on how they missed the good ol' days of MySpace. I asked for a more elaborate definition of the "good ol' days".

"MySpace used to be really cool, for me. It was a place to meet with and hook up with old friends. The best part was that the reunion lead to sex more often than not. Now you can still meet old friends and stuff, but with bad things going on, sexual encounters seem to be fewer. "

The interesting part was that more people than I thought agreed the sentiment and offered confirming stories. Considering those who agreed and their relationship status and longevity, this caused some crazy thoughts. Husbands cheating, wives cheating, girlfriends cheating, boyfriends cheating... and everyone seemed to be OK with it. Even me.

The next day was a lazy Sunday that gave me some time to catch up on my TIVO and I watched ABC Family's new show "Greek" and a documentary on Sundance called "The Human Behavior Experiments".

(at time of posting the pilot episode for "Greek" is available for free on iTunes )
----
Download ABC's "Greek"

Greek seems like an ok new series, it's about trials and tribulation of college life, rushing and all that other junk that goes with it. Infidelity roared its made-for-tv head right off the bat in this one. The main character's sister learns that her skull-society-type frat boyfriend has cheated on her with her sorority's newest high-powered pledge. Now instead of breaking up with him, she gets even- there is no way she is gonna leave her golden goose.

Television just loves infidelity.

"The Human Behavior Experiments" on Sudance was an eyeopener! If you get a chance to watch it, do so. It is a documentary that focuses on experiments done by social scientists Milgran, Darley and Zimbardo on how human behavior. I am no doctor so in a very loose nutshell it illustrates:

If something bad is going on, and the group dynamic is ok with it, the individuals in that dynamic with actually suppress their honest feeling for right and wrong just to not cause waves.

Crazy stuff.

It was a Sunday and some clothes needed to be washed, and not ounce of detergent was to be found. So I hopped in the car to solve this problem. On the way to store on the radio was playing a song by American Idol Winner Carrie Underwood called "Before He Cheats".

----

Carrie Underwood - Before He Cheats - lyrics
Download

----

Radio just loves infidelity.

Eventually, I get to the store and pick up my detergent. Lines at the grocery store always are the longest when you only have one thing to buy. Thankfully, technology has made it so that people can be on their cell phones anywhere and everywhere all the time. I usually never mean to eavesdrop- but sometimes it can't be avoided. There was this girl behind me talking to her husband or boyfriend (who knows i missed the beginning) about how sad she was that she had to leave home and would be late because of an emergency server crash or something. Here is the rub; not even a minute later she answering a call from someone else, her voice became excited but hushed. So of course my ears focused in more. She says that she is so excited to meet "him" tonight and that it been years.

I am no angel, and I have my own demons of this legion.... but do I have to be ok with it?

I think not.

Investigating Infidelity Acceptance

This is my first post on investigating the acceptance of infidelity.

It was on my journey to the store for some laundry detergent, when it became apparent (at least in my wandering mind) that cheating on one's partner seems to be the norm these days

.... and everyone seems to be OK with this.

I feel that something needs to said about this. I have no endgame, infidelity and cheating is, and- I imagine- forever will be, a part of our lives. It's just time to see just how embedded in every facet of life this phenomena may be.

My next post will be about the comical series of events that prompted this blog.

until then enjoy ....
