To say she is a photography hero would be a bit of an understatement. It was pretty wild to stand in front of her photos instead of looking at them on a screen, and I think I stood in one spot for far too long, far too often, in quiet reverence.

The exhibit was a lot smaller than I'd hoped, but it made up for it by featuring complete rolls of developed film plastered around the perimeter of the room. That was ridiculously cool - to see frame by frame how she approached a subject until she got the shot she wanted. Not something we see with digital (except for our own), and very interesting to get inside her process a bit.

Steven saw an exhibition of her work previously and he described it along the lines of "simultaneously totally inspiring and made me want to give up all at once"... Yeah. That sounds about right.

Ah-maz-ing.

The Idea Machine

The Idea Machine, a photo by Chase Alias :)(: on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
The Idea Machine from Endogenous Series, 2010-2012

The Medium is not the Message, the idea brcomes the machine that makes the art. #chasealias
#immersionism
#endogenous

David S Pollack aka Chase Alias hopes to bring to light with his new Endogenous Series how backwards moving our cultural standards have become. Although, the majority of his photographs are pictures of him, however, these photographs are most definitely not self-portraits. Rather, Pollack uses himself as a vehicle for commentary on a variety of issues of the modern world. Pollack employs acting, in particular method acting, to create characters and lifestyles in which these characters choose to exist. He employs concepts of method acting to create characters, such as Chase Alias. He lives his life completely immersed in these characters lifestyles for years before building his installations ands then finally photographing himself as these characters.

Flying

Flying, a photo by PHOTOFENNISH on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
Sony Carl Zeiss
Vario-Tessar
2, 8-5/7, 9-23,7

Portrait of Julia.

Portrait of Julia., a photo by DeusXFlorida on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
Portrait of Julia.

Nikon D60+ Hasselblad Carl Zeiss Sonnar 150mm f4 T* CF.

Light : One Norman head with softcube on crane , one Norman ML-400 with beautydish , one silver reflector.

Sajjad Ahmed's Theorize NY

Sajjad Ahmed's Theorize NY, a photo by Chase Alias :)(: on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
Theorize New York: Impossible to Understand, 2012 Black March Edition, Contemporary Art Fair, Featuring an Opening Night with SWEETIE, Theorize That!

New York, NY – February 17, 2012

.
