Start Regedit
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Explorer
Create a key called DriveIcons
Within DriveIcons, create another key with the drive letter you want to change (..\DriveIcons\K)
Create another key within the drive letter key called DefaultIcon
Set the default value equal to the icon you want to use.
If you have a file that has more than one icon in it, such as a DLL file, use the standard C:\full_path\icon_file.dll,x
where x is the number of the icon within the file icon_file.dll.

bootcfg - Configures, queries, or changes Boot.ini file settings.
driverquery - Displays a list of all installed device drivers and their properties.
getmac - Returns the media access control (MAC) address and list of network protocols associated with each address for all network cards in each computer
gpresult - Displays Group Policy settings and Resultant Set of Policy (RSOP) for a user or a computer
netsh - You can use commands in the Netsh Interface IP context to configure the TCP/IP protocol
schtasks - Schedules commands and programs to run periodically or at a specific time
systeminfo - Displays detailed configuration information about a computer and its operating system

Ctrl+Alt+Del. It is also known as the "three-fingered salute," since it is so useful when your Windows computer locks up. Pressing the combo once (simultaneously) opens the Windows Task Manager. From the Task Manager you can select the crashed program separately and close it. If your system is totally locked, grab the mouse and click Shut Down.

Have you ever wondered why almost every windows program has the F in File underlined, E in edit and so on across the top of the window? Press the Alt key + that letter to open a particular menu; you can either use arrow keys to move around within that window. Now your eyes will be glued to more underlined letters to use more Alt key combinations.

F2 renames a selected file or folder easier than right clicking.

F3 launches search if you're on the desktop or in a folder.

Windows + M minimize all open windows.

Windows + D shows you're desktop.

To move the current window or dialog box to a different position on the screen press Shift+Alt+Spacebar then press M. Move the window or dialog box using the up/down/left/right arrows then press ENTER.

To resize the Current window press Shift+Alt+Spacebar then press S. Move the window using two of the up/down/left/right arrows then press ENTER.

To reduce (not minimize) the current window press Shift+Alt+Spacebar then press R.

To maximize the current window use Shift+Alt+Spacebar then press X.

To restore an active window press Alt+Spacebar+R

To minimize the current window use Shift+Alt+Spacebar then press N.

To activate the font list box in the formatting toolbar press Ctrl+Shift+F.

To switch between multiple documents which are open in the same program press Alt+W. To pull down the window menu, type the number corresponding to the document you want to switch to. Or press Ctrl+F6.

To open multiple documents in the same program press Alt+F to pull down the file menu. Type the number corresponding to the document you want to switch to or press Alt+F to pull down the menu. Press O to open the open dialog box. Press Ctrl+Tab to move through the buttons and fields until you reach the document list. Use your down arrow keys to move to the document you wish to open. Press Enter.

To close an active document or dialog box press Alt+F to pull down the file menu. Press C to close the document. You may be asked "Do you want to save changes to the document?" Use your Tab or arrow keys to move to your selection. Press Enter.

To close multiple documents in the same program press Alt+C.

To turn on spell checker move to the beginning of your document or select the text you want spell checked and press F7. Use the Tab key to move around the dialog box. Press Enter on ignore or change buttons.

To display a drop down menu for a selected item, position the cursor over the item and press Shift+F10. Or select the item or text and press Shift+F10.

Your Home Page Never Being Changed

1) You open notepad

2) now you writ: [autorun]
OPEN=INSTALL\filename.EXE
ICON=INSTALL\filename.EXE

Now save it but not as a .txt file but as a .inf file.

But remember! The "filename.EXE" must be replaced with the name of the setup file. And you also need to rember that it is not all of the setup files there are called '.exe but some are called '.msi

3) Now burn your CD with the autorun .inf file included.

4) Now insert the CD in you CD drive and wait for the autorun to begin or if nothing happens just double-click on the CD drive icon in the computer

Remove Favorites From Start Menu

Open registry editor.Scroll to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ExplorerRight-click on the right pane and select New, DWORD Value. Name it NoFavoritesMenu.Double-click and enter 1 as value. To restore the Favorites menu, reverse the steps by changing 1 to 0 or delete DWORD value.

This error is caused if the DisableTaskMgr restriction is enabled. To enable Task Manager, try one of these methods:

Using Desktop.ini Files
Folders are normally displayed with the standard folder icon. A common use of the Desktop.ini file is to assign a custom icon or thumbnail image to a folder. You can also use Desktop.ini to create an infotip that displays information about the folder and controls some aspects of the folder's behavior, such as specifying localized names for the folder or items in the folder.
Use the following procedure to customize a folder's style with Desktop.ini:
Use PathMakeSystemFolder to make the folder a system folder. This sets the read-only bit on the folder to indicate that the special behavior reserved for Desktop.ini should be enabled. You can also make a folder a system folder from the command line by using attrib +s FolderName.
Create a Desktop.ini file for the folder. You should mark it as hidden and system to ensure that it is hidden from normal users.
Make sure the Desktop.ini file that you create is in the Unicode format. This is necessary to store the localized strings that can be displayed to users.

Creating a Desktop.ini File
The Desktop.ini file is a text file that allows you to specify how a file system folder is viewed. The [.ShellClassInfo] section, allows you to customize the folder's view by assigning values to several entries:

ConfirmFileOp
Set this entry to 0 to avoid a "You Are Deleting a System Folder" warning when deleting or moving the folder.

NoSharing
Not supported under Windows Vista or later. Set this entry to 1 to prevent the folder from being shared.

IconFile
If you want to specify a custom icon for the folder, set this entry to the icon's file name. The .ico file extension is preferred, but it is also possible to specify .bmp files, or .exe and .dll files that contain icons. If you use a relative path, the icon is available to people who view the folder over the network. You must also set the IconIndex entry.

IconIndex
Set this entry to specify the index for a custom icon. If the file assigned to IconFile only contains a single icon, set IconIndex to 0.

InfoTip
Set this entry to an informational text string. It is displayed as an infotip when the cursor hovers over the folder. If the user clicks the folder, the information text is displayed in the folder's information block, below the standard information.

RENAME ALL FILES IN A DIRECTORY AT A TIME-USEFULL

Select all the files in a folder by selecting a file and pressing Ctrl+A, then right click on any file and select Rename. And rename the file (the file on which u did right click) by pressing Alt+255. then press enter. All other files/folder selected will be automatically renamed to (2), (3), ..and so on. But u'll see that the file which u selected for rename has no visible name-rename it to 1 we also get an extra set of parenthesis in this case not exactly (2) instead of 2 as new name. Also if instead of Alt+255 we rename to web (any name) all files will be named like web,web(1),web(2)…so on.

Alt+255 is a way to rename a folder to no name.select a folder and press F2 to rename, then press backspace to clear old name and then press Alt+255 (holding one Alt key press 2 then 5 then 5) then press enter to have that folder with blank name.

How to Empty My Recent Documents Automatically on Log off?

All the files you open will be stored in your user profile in a hidden folder named My Recent Documents. This is really annoying and a treat to our privacy! We can make this folder auto cleared on logoff using a single registry change.

1. Click Start > Run > Type in regedit

2. In the Registry editor navigate to the following key.

HKEY_Current_User > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Policies > Explorer

3. Right click on the Right Pane > New > Dword Value & name it as ClearRecentDocsOnExit .

4. Double Clcik on it & se the value to 1 .

This will clear the My Recent Documents Folder automatically on logoff.
To make it normal either delete the Dword value or set the value to 0.

Fair enough, but if you go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, by default none of Windows XP's 'built in' programs are visible. it's fairly easy to change, though... just open the file X:\Windows\inf\sysoc.inf (where X: is the drive letter where Windows XP is installed) in Notepad. You should see a section of the file something like this:

This is a list of all components installed at the moment. I've taken the example of MSN Messenger - the program entry called 'msmsgs', third-last line. You can see the word 'hide' highlighted - this is the string which tells Windows not to display the component in the Add/Remove Programs list. Fix this up by simply deleting the word 'hide' like so:

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7

To this:

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7

Now, after restarting, you should be able to see MSN Messenger in the Add/Remove Programs list. If you want to be able to quickly view and remove all components, simply open the sysoc.inf file and do a global find and replace for the word ",hide" and replace it with a single comma ",".

An IP address can also be thought of as the equivalent of a street address or a phone number (compare: VoIP (voice over (the) internet protocol)) for a computer or other network device on the Internet. Just as each street address and phone number uniquely identifies a building or telephone, an IP address can uniquely identify a specific computer or other network device on a network.

An IP address can appear to be shared by multiple client devices either because they are part of a shared hosting web server environment or because a proxy server (e.g., an ISP or anonymizer service) acts as an intermediary agent on behalf of its customers, in which case the real originating IP addresses might be hidden from the server receiving a request. The analogy to telephone systems would be the use of predial numbers (proxy) and extensions (shared).

IP addresses are managed and created by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. IANA generally allocates super-blocks to Regional Internet Registries, who in turn allocate smaller blocks to Internet service providers and enterprises.
