Auckland is blessed with an extraordinary range of landscapes, from volcanic summits to sweeping coastlines and peaceful native bush. Guests staying at Best Western Newmarket are perfectly placed to explore some of the region’s most enjoyable family-friendly walks, many within easy reach for a half-day adventure. Whether your family prefers gentle paths or slightly more challenging trails, these seven options offer a memorable experience during the holidays.

1. Cornwall Park Loop
Still a local favourite, this gentle loop is perfect for families with younger children. Wide paths, open green spaces, and grazing sheep create an easy and relaxing walk just minutes from Best Western Newmarket.

2. One Tree Hill Summit Track
For those wanting a short but satisfying climb, the summit of One Tree Hill offers impressive city views. The route is well maintained and suitable for families who enjoy a little elevation without committing to a long trek.

3. Hunua Falls Track (Hunua Ranges)
A scenic drive of under an hour takes you to the Hunua Ranges for a lovely family outing. The easy loop around Hunua Falls showcases native forest, a dramatic waterfall, and peaceful picnic spots. It is a great introduction to Auckland’s regional parks.

4. Karekare Beach Walk (West Coast)
The rugged west coast offers a completely different atmosphere. The short walk from the carpark to Karekare Beach leads to black sands, rolling surf, and dramatic scenery. It is ideal for families wanting a coastal adventure without a demanding hike.

5. Wenderholm Perimeter Track (Wenderholm Regional Park)
A beautiful coastal and bush walk about 45 minutes from Newmarket. Families can explore estuary edges, forest tracks, and viewpoints, with plenty of opportunities for swimming or picnicking afterwards.

6. Shakespeare Regional Park Tiritiri Track (Whangaparāoa Peninsula)
This well-marked trail features farmland, native bush, and sweeping views across the Hauraki Gulf. The track is moderate but manageable for most families and offers plenty of photo opportunities.

7. Maungarei Summit Walk (Mount Wellington)
A short but rewarding climb close to the inn, Maungarei delivers panoramic views of Auckland’s harbours and volcanic landscape. It is ideal for families wanting a brisk outing before or after exploring the city.

From peaceful wetlands and volcanic summits to coastal landscapes and regional parks, these seven walks offer a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors during your stay at Best Western Newmarket Inn & Suites.
Air New Zealand boosts 2026 domestic capacity to help keep Kiwi travellers connected

TRAVEL

Air New Zealand is strengthening its commitment to connecting New Zealanders with each other and the world, announcing an increase in capacity on key domestic routes from March to October 2026.

The uplift is part of the airline's long-term focus on delivering for New Zealand by supporting domestic growth, business connectivity, and tourism.

Air New Zealand General Manager Short Haul and Domestic Lucy Hall says the airline is focused on ensuring its network meets the needs of its customers.

"We are constantly reviewing our network to make sure we are offering the best possible schedule and capacity for Kiwi customers. These updates are all about keeping New Zealanders connected, supporting regional growth, and making it easier for people to travel for work, to visit loved ones, or to explore more of Aotearoa."

The airline will increase seats across several of its busiest routes:

Auckland–Queenstown up 9%

Auckland–Christchurch up 4%

Auckland–Rotorua up 7%

Auckland–Blenheim up 7%

Christchurch-Hamilton up 17%

The Auckland–Queenstown route will see significant uplift, growing by 9%, as the airline adds more flights to meet strong demand. In total, around 50,000 additional seats will be available to and from Queenstown over the year, giving customers more choice and flexibility when travelling to one of New Zealand's most popular destinations.

Christchurch will see an increase in regional capacity, offering around 25,000 more seats than the same period this year. From 9 February 2026, jet services will operate daily on the Christchurch–Hamilton route, increasing capacity by 17%. Additional growth is planned on services from Christchurch to Napier, Nelson, Rotorua, Tauranga and Invercargill, giving customers more options in and out of the city.

In the North Island, the Auckland–Rotorua route will be upgauged to an ATR aircraft, increasing capacity by 7% and providing more seats at business-friendly times.

A new weekday schedule includes a 6:50am Rotorua–Auckland departure and a 6:20pm Auckland–Rotorua return, designed to support same-day travel for business customers. The Wellington–Rotorua route will also benefit from a new timetable offering morning and afternoon flights at convenient times, while the Christchurch–Rotorua service will see capacity increase by 4%.

"We heard from the Rotorua community that better flight times for business travel were a priority, so we're adjusting the schedule to meet that request. These changes will make it easier for locals to travel to Auckland for a full day's work and return home the same evening," says Hall.

These schedule and capacity changes form part of Air New Zealand's broader commitment to deliver for New Zealand by increasing capacity to support customers, communities and the economy.

(Source)

Media Release - Introducing Double Days: Book flights and earn double Status Points

TRAVEL

Air New Zealand is kicking off December by serving up Double Days, its biggest-ever double Status Points offer, helping Airpoints™ members make their next trip even more rewarding.

Hot on the heels of the airline introducing Koru, a refreshed loyalty programme, Double Days gives travellers the opportunity to retain their status or climb to the next tier faster, unlocking rewards sooner.

From Monday 1 December until midnight Wednesday 3 December, New Zealand-based Airpoints members can book any Air New Zealand operated or qualifying partner flight across 20 domestic and 29* international destinations for travel over the next year and earn 2x Status Points.

Status Points are the key to progressing through the Airpoints programme's status tiers: Silver, Gold, Elite, (Koru Bronze, Koru Silver, Koru Gold, and Koru Platinum from April 2026) and Koru Black**. Each tier unlocks a suite of rewards from Koru Lounge access, and priority check-in and boarding, to Elite Partners (Koru Platinum partners from April 2026) and the new Koru Circle benefit coming in 2026 for the new top-earned tier, Koru Black.

Air New Zealand General Manager Loyalty, Alex Larsen, says the offer is two-good to miss.

"We know our members value earning Status Points, so we're thrilled to bring back this offer as an additional way to reward members. It's our way of saying a heartfelt thank you to everyone who chooses to fly with Air New Zealand."

"Double Days helps get you the tier benefits you've been chasing that little bit faster. If you're planning a weekend getaway or your dream overseas trip, this could be your chance to unlock a tier and rewards you've had your eye on. Whether that's lounge access, Recognition Upgrades, or, for our most frequent flyers, a move towards the new Koru Black tier."

How it works:

Sign into your Airpoints account or join Airpoints today.

Book any eligible Air New Zealand flight through airnz.co.nz or your preferred travel agent during the Double Days promotion from midnight Monday 1 December to midnight Wednesday 3 December for travel between 1 December 2025 and 21 November 2026.

Collect 2x Status Points after you fly.

Last month, Air New Zealand unveiled Koru, a bold refresh of its loyalty programme designed to deliver greater recognition and value for its more than five million members. From April 2026, the airline will introduce refreshed tier names, new and enhanced benefits, and the new Koru Black tier, created to recognise the airline's most loyal members.

"As we look ahead to the next chapter of the Airpoints programme, our focus remains on making travel more meaningful and more rewarding, because for us, it's not just about flying from A to B. It's about recognising the journeys that matter to our customers – whether that's connecting with friends or family, travelling week in and week out for work, chasing opportunity, or seeing the world," Larsen says.

"We'll continue to evolve our Koru programme, bringing on new partners, unlocking more ways to travel with Air New Zealand using Airpoints, and creating fresh opportunities to earn rewards."

(Source)

Star Alliance Partners Air New Zealand and Air India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the objective of boosting air connectivity between India and New Zealand.

The MoU was signed at an event in Mumbai in the presence of Honourable Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr Christopher Luxon, and other dignitaries.

The MoU includes the establishment of a new codeshare partnership on 16 routes between India, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand, conferring travellers more choice and convenient access between the two countries.

Customers will now be able to travel from the Indian cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai on Air India, and connect at Sydney, Melbourne or Singapore onto Air New Zealand-operated flights to Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington and Queenstown.

Besides improving customers’ ease of booking and travel, the codeshare aims to increase visibility of the respective markets as tourism destinations.

The MoU will also see Air New Zealand and Air India explore the introduction of a direct service between India and New Zealand by the end of 2028, subject to new aircraft deliveries and approvals from relevant government regulators.

Air New Zealand Chief Executive Greg Foran emphasised the strategic significance of India as a future destination, highlighting its rapidly expanding tourism market and increasing travel demand.

“India represents a key growth market for Air New Zealand, and we are excited about the opportunity to enhance connectivity for travellers between our two countries. This codeshare agreement is an important first step, offering more options for customers while we work to understand what a direct service could look like.

“Today’s event underscores the significance of the India market to New Zealand, not only for tourism but also for strengthening business and education ties. We are committed to working collaboratively to grow the travel market over the coming years, ensuring a strong foundation for a successful direct service by 2028,” said Foran.

Campbell Wilson, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Air India, said: “As part of Air India’s ongoing transformation, we have been expanding our global network using our own aircraft as well as through new or expanded codeshare agreements with other airlines, chiefly our Star Alliance partners. We are delighted to be deepening our relationship with Air New Zealand, which follows the recent expansion of our codeshare partnerships with Lufthansa Group, Singapore Airlines, and All Nippon Airways. This partnership will not only strengthen our presence and simplify customer journeys, but also help us develop traffic so that, in time to come, we may viably operate a non-stop service between India and New Zealand, which we and Air New Zealand have committed to explore together with the respective authorities.”

With India emerging as a growing tourism and business hub, this partnership reflects the airline’s commitment to delivering enhanced travel experiences while supporting trade, tourism, and economic growth.

Currently, Air New Zealand customers travelling between New Zealand and India benefit from strong connectivity options via Singapore Airlines, offering a smooth transit through Singapore. The prospect of a future direct route would further strengthen the relationship between the two countries, providing more efficient and accessible travel opportunities.

The MoU also outlines Tourism New Zealand’s commitment to growing inbound tourism from the Indian market. Tourism New Zealand’s research shows that 18 million people in New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai are actively considering traveling to New Zealand, making it a key emerging market. More than 80,000 international travellers arrived from India last year, 23% more than in 2019.

The long-term growth potential is significant, with India ear-marked as one of the fastest-growing outbound travel markets. Indian travellers are keen to explore New Zealand’s vibrant landscapes, film sets and rich cultural opportunities.

Tourism New Zealand Chief Executive Rene de Monchy said: “It's fantastic to see Air New Zealand and Air India working on stronger international connectivity between the two countries. We know improved aviation links have a crucial role to play in the growth of international tourism and will make it easier for Indian travellers to come and enjoy a holiday in New Zealand.

“An added bonus is that travellers from India also have a strong tendency to visit New Zealand in the off-peak months that coincide with their major holiday periods."

The codeshare flights will be available for booking progressively, subject to due regulatory approvals.

(Source)

Kiwis Take Control: Air NZ's November Quiz Gets Local Makeover

Air New Zealand's inflight quiz is getting a Kiwi takeover this November, with all questions submitted by trivia buffs from across Aotearoa.

After inviting the nation to submit their best brainteasers, the airline was overwhelmed with responses, receiving over 1400 quiz questions. From these, more than 250 have been handpicked to feature onboard throughout the month, with each question proudly displaying the submitter's name and region.

Air New Zealand General Manager Domestic Scott Carr says the November quiz will be packed with Kiwi flavour, with submissions from all over the country.

"We asked our customers to flex their trivia muscles, and they certainly delivered! From fun local facts to obscure knowledge, the variety was fantastic.

"Some of my personal favourites include: 'What do polydactyl cats have more of than other cats?', 'Which Southland town is the self-proclaimed Sausage Capital of New Zealand?', and the always controversial question... 'Which country invented the dish Pavlova?'

"If you're flying on one of our domestic jets this November, you'll get to find out the answers. With different sets of questions loaded on our north and south-bound flights, customers won't see the same challenge on their return journey!"

In November, the airline will also unveil a refreshed look for its iconic inflight quiz, which has been puzzling passengers since 2008.

"Our quiz is a beloved staple of domestic jet flights, so we've redesigned it to make it even more engaging," Carr says.

"The refresh improves readability, with more space for questions and answers, plus new question formats — so you can look forward to even more trivia-packed fun onboard!"

(Source)
