Random Picking Of Over Thousands of iPad Apps

The commercial craze surrounding iPad gave us the impression that this nifty machine is small enough to trot yet packed with superior apps that would put an ordinary smart phone to shame.

Apple has made it a point, in fact, a selling point, that thousands of apps were designed specifically to iPad consumption. These apps range from the leisurely and educational to the business centered. At present, additional apps are still in the process of been developed to ensure that all kinds of processes are possible to be accomplished in the iPad.

Interesting apps are present in the iPad, which may not appear to be immediately useful, but to some extent, is on a good-to-know basis. For instance, there exists a table of elements app called The Elements that has absolutely no use for corporate individuals and just about everyone else. Unless we are still attached to academic Chemistry or have great propensity to create our own potions, the Table of Elements seems like a whimsical addition to iPad’s list of apps. But it does not hurt to find this app, for one, it could come in handy in the face of an alien take-over.

One useful app would be the Epicurious, a comprehensive indexed cookbook. The user could randomly search for a recipe by simply using one of the ingredients names as the search keyword. It will return a list of recipes that includes the key ingredient and the user can further narrow down the search by adding more key recipes.

Other lifestyle apps are offered too that can supplement the Epicurious app such as the Grocery IQ and Mcormick Recipes apps among others.

Games and entertainment apps have a wide array of selection from scholarly to mundane to high speed racing. Even the game apps have been specially redesigned for iPad. Gaming is such a great experience on the iPad because of its rich display, ultra fast processor and multi-orientation screen. The user can flip the tablet from portrait to landscape to better enjoy the gaming activity.

Scrabble and Soduko are two of the most popular educational game puzzles that were integrated into the iPad apps. Puzzle games such as Labyrinth, Monkey Flight, Traffic Rush, Superstar Chef, Bloons Light and more. For the puzzle addict, iPad sounds like a stairway to arcade/puzzle games heaven.

Racing games have so many incarnations in the list of iPad apps such as Real Racing HD, Asphalt 5, F1 2010, Fast Lane Street Racing Lite, Fast and Furious The Game Test Drive, Need for Speed: Undercover among others. There are about hundred of racing games to choose from.

The iPad owner can decide which apps to download on the iPad depending on his lifestyle or tastes. Everything is available on the App Store and almost all of it has been rehashed to adapt to the iPad’s specifications. With over a hundred thousand of apps to choose from, it would be impossible not to find one that will spark one’s interests.

iPad is a bombshell. There’s so much in it that it could take some serious time spent with it before one can actually use its full capacity. Here’s a quick view of some of little known features this multifunctioning device has.

Built-In Dictionary
It’s a no-brainer that a device that has superb features for e-reading is also backed with a decent built-in dictionary. Both the word processor and the iBooks application has dictionary for quick reference to words that you may find vague. Apple is also thoughtful enough to include a quick search of the eBooks using a keyword, just as you would do with a website. As if this is not enough, it is also easy to get quick access to online dictionaries via Safari, so it really isn’t a big deal if some unfamiliar words make you stammer while you read Apple’s massive collection of eBooks.

Auto-Adjusted Screen Brightness
The developers of iPad went so far as program the device to adjust its brightness according to specific environments to make eye strain less of an issue for users. This is particularly important for people who frequently use the device in different lighting conditions.

Don’t wish for perfection though. Despite the brilliant design and programming that went into the creation of the product, it still has some limitations. Text and images look washed under direct sunlight, for one.

Home Screen Bookmarking
The home screen, is without a doubt among the most versatile features of the device. Aside from allowing the display of the shortcuts to specific applications, iPad’s Home Screen also displays your bookmarked websites. For the end users, this means that you can go straight to your favorite websites with just one touch of the bookmarked websites icon.

Browser Dashboard
Forget tabbed browser, iPad’s Safari offers users a different view of opened ‘tabs’. Like the tabbed view we get from laptop or desktop browsers, the dashboard view allows the opening of multiple web pages, only with iPad’s Safari, the web pages are shown as thumbnail images of all opened sites. This allows for easy switching between websites. All it needs is a single tap.

Smart Links
Mailing is more convenient with iPad. The device is programmed to recognize address, names, numbers and link these to relevant information. This function benefits users by cutting short the time spent on searching online or in the device’s storage for information relevant to the inquiry. For example, when addresses are tapped, maps and directions show up on the screen. When a name or a telephone number is tapped, the entire information on the contact list is revealed.

Slideshow Soundtracks
We’re done with boring, quiet slideshows. Apple’s iPad brings forth the option of integrating music and sounds into its slideshow app. Now, that’s a good way of jazzing up any presentation you create using Keynote.

Background Music
And you thought only slideshows can have a background music…Even while you are searching the web or playing any of Apple’s apps, you can have music continuously playing on the background.

Training racing pigeons are an essential aspect of winning a pigeon race. However ideal the traits that your bird has acquired, absence of proper training won’t allow you to harness its full potential and winning is close to impossible. So how do you train a racing pigeon to become a winner?

Let’s start with the basic needs: food and shelter.

Food for pigeons need to be clean, fresh, and of high quality. Grains and grit are their primary foods but these will not boost their performance enough to win a race. Minerals and vitamins must be included in their diet which can be mixed with the water or with the food in the form of oil. It is highly important that the food should have low moisture content or else it will be susceptible to becoming a breeding ground for fungi, bacteria, and eventually become toxic for the bird.

The shelter, specifically called “loft” for a pigeon house, comes in different styles depending on your desired functions. Most pigeon fanciers build multiple lofts in order to separate the males from the females as well as the young from the mature ones (or the unmated from the mated). The former is being done to have full control on breeding while the latter is often for pigeons which are not yet identified whether male or female.

Lofts may come in different forms too. There’s the “trap and landing board” for race pigeons, a “flypen” for those that are limited to fly freely, a “nestbox” for each pigeon especially that they are territorial animals, and numerous “perches”.

Every pigeon starts to live in a nest then must be transferred to a bigger loft after around 4 weeks. Once inside the bigger loft, the pigeon is trained to become familiar with its surroundings such as the location of food, water, and the entire look of the loft. Only after the pigeon’s 6th and 7th week can it be made to fly higher and farther for practice. By this time, it is understood that the pigeon has developed already some capabilities to recall signs that it can utilize to get back to its owner or loft.

Determining the speed of your pigeons is also crucial. Only once you have identified whether your pigeon is indeed in need of further speed can you really work on the potential reasons for the slow performance. You can measure the speed of your racing pigeon through the traditional and electronic timing methods. But although both can be effective, the traditional method may pose some conflicts when the winning bird suddenly does not continue on entering its loft, and hence the time recording does not become accurate

Lastly, you need to make sure that you are closely connected with your racing pigeons. Flying and tossing them from time to time may always be a wonderful activity for both of you and which shall continue all throughout their racing careers. So don’t be fooled by the thought that one great breed is enough to lead you to success. Training is very much a must.

Pigeons can easily adapt to almost any given situation and this is why they are one of the best pets an owner could ask for. Give them their living essentials and the right environment, and they can easily do the rest. However, you have to be more meticulous when you want to raise a pigeon for racing. In this case, how a pigeon’s loft is designed plays a big role in making sure that they will be raised to their full potential.

Here is a breakdown of loft designing fundamentals that will help your pigeon become potential champions in pigeon racing.

1. Ventilation
Like any other warm-blooded animal, pigeons need air as much as they require food and water. Make sure that the loft has openings where air can enter and escape. The openings can be placed on roof or along the roofline. If air is scarce in the location where the loft is placed, installing exhaust fans should be able to help. Setting up an aviary also gives the pigeons the luxury to enjoy the fresh air at their own leisure. Pigeons need to be intimate with nature; a loft that allows them that luxury can make it easier for them to develop an attachment to their homes.

2. Dry Environment
Too much moisture inside and outside the loft increases the chances of your pigeons to acquire diseases. As a pet owner, it is your sole responsibility to ensure that the loft stays dry. It’s a good start to keep the loft in a slightly elevated position. Placing the loft on a pair of stacked cinder blocks can definitely do the job. As for the height of elevation, 18″-25″ off the ground should be good enough. This set-up allows air to circulate under the loft to keep it dry. Using a wooden floor also prevents the building up of moisture from pigeon droppings.

3. Cleaning Made Easy
A clean loft prevents pigeons from acquiring diseases that may affect their training and worse, lead to death. Administer regular cleaning to the loft by scraping unwanted dirt several times a week. As mentioned earlier, a wooden floor really helps since it can absorb moisture from droppings. As we all know, dry droppings are much easier to clean than wet droppings. And don’t even plan on using formica type material for floors, perches or for any part of the loft that requires regular cleaning. Sure, the smooth surface makes it easier to scrape, but the stains that stick to it are bound to give you more headaches.

4. Accessibility To Sunlight
Pigeons need and love the sun so make sure that your loft is accessible to the sunlight. Pigeons from time to time want to sunbathe which is why you need to make sure that the aviary gets as much sunlight as possible. Keep in mind though that too much sunlight can be bad, so a small allowance for a shaded area should be designated inside the loft. This gives them the right amount of sunlight and will provide them with Vitamin D needed for strong bones.

With the advent of electronic technology, gold hunting is now a far cry from what it used to be in the time of our forefathers, way back when gold diggers used to dig fervently for gold deposits through the use of tools like pick-axes and hoes. The metal detector device has taken gold prospecting into a whole new level, bringing into the fold a slew of hobbyists that see the activity as a recreational pursuit.

While hunting for gold nuggets is obviously an engaging long-term activity, one has to keep in mind a lot of facts and conditions before taking the plunge. Metal detecting, especially for gold, is a sophisticated endeavor, one that requires persistence, patience, financial resources, and a bit of luck. Perhaps the best way to gauge whether it’s going to be worth it in the long run is figuring out whether your love for the activity is all encompassing. If your interest in metal detecting is superficial, it may be best to take up another hobby, perhaps less strenuous ones such as stamp collecting or cultivating an art farm. If you believe you’re hardcore enough, then I recommend you read this guide.

There are a multitude of metal detectors out there, and they vary a lot in specifications. The safest bet is to choose a metal detector that works best for gold nuggets, since many of them are also meant for picking up signals from iron minerals, coins, artifacts, and many others. There are two types of detectors. The first one uses VLF technology, which is more able to sense smaller gold, but susceptible to the negative effects of mineralization. Pulse Induction technology (PI), on the other hand, is more capable of picking up signals from larger gold but is less sensitive to mineralization. If you want optimal results, purchasing these two types of detectors is advisable. If you don’t have enough financial resources, then choose the one that suits your preference.

Here are some tips that might assist you in your search for gold nuggets through metal detection.

1. After you have purchased a metal detector, it is best to read and study the manual before you head out for your first expedition. Hunting for gold is a tricky business, so learning the fundamentals and the specialized functions of your device are paramount in all things while starting out.

2. Toggle your metal detector’s amount of frequency according to the concentration of iron minerals in the ground. Remember that higher frequency means higher sensitivity to smaller gold, but with the penalty of picking up iron minerals. Detectors with low frequency are less sensitive to smaller gold but are much better at handling iron ground.

3. Do some extensive research before gold prospecting. Go to your local library and target locations with a history of gold production.

4. Finding even the smallest gold in a location makes it an official hot spot. A nugget of gold is not its own island. There might still be chunks lying around.

5. Choose the best headphones. The tiniest distinction of sound, or the faintest noise, can yield the most precious gold.

You can also get valuable advice from experienced gold prospectors. Joining a club of prospectors can help you acquire advanced techniques in hunting for gold. Prospecting in groups is often very enjoyable, and gives you the opportunity to brag when you catch a big one!

Metal Detecting

When one encounters the words “metal detecting“, what springs to mind are its mining and industrial applications. Metal detection is also essential in espionage when it comes to tracking evidence that might shed some light into a case. In parlance, metal detection is not limited to its practical uses. Metal detection has already become a hobby long enough for it to spawn hundreds of clubs worldwide. These clubs hold regular meetings that enable enthusiasts to showcase their finds and share their own experience as metal hunters. It’s also an event where newbies can learn the tricks of the trade from hunters who have more experience.

There’s an overwhelming amount of metal detectors out in the market, with all of them varying a lot in specs. You can choose according to frequency, audio response, iron level, battery life and many others. I recommend visiting the site metaldetectingworld.com for you to get a list of metal detectors available for purchase.

Metal detecting for the hobbyist has several sub-niches. Some enthusiasts specialize on one, while others do a combination of these sub-niches according to their personal preference. I am going to enumerate these sub-niches so you can decide on which ones you want to focus on.

COIN SHOOTING
Coin shooting is perfect for metal detecting beginners because of its accessibility and low level of difficulty. Take note, however, that the main purpose of coin shooting is not merely to accumulate bucks, but also to add to your collection. If you’re lucky, you might detect a very old coin – old enough to be considered a relic – which you can boast to your friends and fellow hunters. Coin shooting is very common at the beach (generally called “beach combing”) The more experienced beach combers always keep track of tides and sand erosion to determine the best place and time to hunt for coins.

PROSPECTING
‘Gold diggers’ are words that might sound archaic in this day and age, but there are still lots of them that are on the hunt for valuable metals like gold and silver. Just make sure to do some mapping out of prospective locations and a bit of research if you want to try your luck at prospecting. And don’t forget to ask for a letter of approval before you set out for a particular spot. Prospecting requires a lot of dedication, expertise and patience, but there’s always the possibility that you might catch a “big one”.

RELIC HUNTING
If you are a history buff, then relic hunting is something that you’ll definitely enjoy. Relics are historical artifacts like axeheads, buttons, coins, tags and buckles. There are hundreds of historical sites in America alone, and learning about the historical events in a particular location will increase the enjoyment with each find. The light of discovery provides more satisfaction if you have historical knowledge to make sense of what you find. It’s like finding an arrowhead and being aware that there used to be Native American settlers in the location where you found it.

While metal detecting can be a very challenging task, the pure enjoyment one gets in the act of “treasure hunting”, coupled by the innate inclination to go on small adventures, has kept the hobby still very much popular even today.

Metal detecting is becoming one of the most popular hobbies nowadays. This is so because one doesn’t need to have special skills or special physical ability just to play with their metal detector and find buried treasure. Also, purchasing a high quality detector won’t cost you a fortune. So aside from being a pleasurable and rewarding, detecting metals is also an inexpensive hobby.

Before you get started on your way to discovering buried treasures, keep these tips in mind:

1. Ask for permission.
If your chosen site is a private property, get permission from the owner. If you show them the common courtesy of asking first, they surely will be very accommodating. You can also share some of your finds with the owner.

2. Research.
Do a research first to know if the area has already been hunted.

3. Look at some old maps.
Old maps present some places that new maps don’t. They also show some great spots for detecting metals such as old churches, old schools, and many others.

4. Do your metal detecting in the rain or after a good hard rain.
Don’t be afraid of getting wet because it’s good to do your treasure hunting when it is raining or right after the rain. Why? Because when the ground is wet, the detector becomes more sensitive to emit a signal due to the ground’s higher conductivity. Also, the rain softens and loosens the soil, bringing those buried treasure closer to the ground surface. It also makes digging much easier. Just don’t forget to get a poncho and to buy a waterproof cover for your detector.

5. Try using your detector on the beach first before using it in a field.
This is a good idea because it is easy to detect treasure in the sand. It is as well easier to dig in. Also, since the beach is a place where more people hang out, there’s a big chance that you’ll find more valuable items in there.

6. Use headphones when detecting metal.
It is always advisable to wear earphones because most of the time, small variations in tone cannot be noticed especially if the background noise is louder.

7. Bring with you digging tools and other accessories.
Nugget bottles, plastic containers, digging tools, scuff cover, and many other accessories can be of great help to you.

8. Get a protective cap for your search coil.
Search coils are expensive so it’s better to give it a protective cap.

9. Wear knee pads.
Metal detecting also involves bending and kneeling so it is advisable to wear hard-cap knee pads.

10. Know the history of your place.
The history of your city is very much helpful in finding a good treasure hunting spot. Know where the battle ground and picnic ground is. Find out also if there are abandoned ports and marinas in your locality.

These are just some of the tips that will help you in finding more treasure using your detector. If you’re already familiar with your detector and other metal detecting accessories, you can try to find deeper targets.

Four Tips For A More Successful Metal Detecting

Perhaps you are wondering why more and more people are being attracted to metal detecting. First and foremost, it is for the simple reason that not only does metal detecting give you the opportunity to explore new areas but it also gives you the chance to discover new items along the process. Beyond doubt, metal detecting is such a wonderful hobby and there are simply limitless options which you can do in order to enjoy it more. With your metal detector ready and your detecting skills at hand, all you need to do is follow these simple tips in order to enjoy your metal detecting.

Research First

The first tip for you is to conduct your research first. Going to a place that you are not familiar with can be a bad choice for you especially if you are only starting with metal detecting. It is important that you first research on these places and possible areas where you can conduct your metal detecting. It is also a wise decision if you first practice your metal detecting skills in places that you are most familiar with such as your backyard and your local parks. This way, it will definitely make you much more sensitive and vigilant on the things that are surrounding you.

Consult Old Maps

The second thing which you can do is get an old map of the area of your choice. Typical parks may not necessarily have the same structures as when it was ten years ago. So, with the help of old maps, you can certainly look for abandoned areas and secret passages where you can conduct your metal detecting. Not only will this be a great adventure for you but you may just discover some things that will greatly amaze you. Being adventurous and at the same time careful with your actions is definitely important to make your metal detecting an enjoyable experience.

Avoid Crowded Areas

The third tip which you can follow is avoiding crowded areas. Going to a place swarmed by so many people will just make your metal detecting much more difficult since they will be constantly pas you by every now and then. In order to avoid that from happening, you can simply go to your chosen areas early in the day or even late at night. This will ensure you that you will have a wonderful experience at the same time, a peaceful quiet doing your hobby. Moreover, you can go to these places during holidays when people are most likely spending their days in their houses.

Have The Proper Equipment

The fourth tip which you should apply in your metal detecting is to first purchase different metal detectors that are specialized for various kinds of environment. If you are only starting with metal detecting, it is alright to have only one type of metal detector. However, as you go along your hobby and explore more grounds and environments, it is extremely important that you use a more specialized metal detector for each area you are going to explore. Not only will it heighten your metal detecting experience but it will also ensure you of finding more valuable things buried in these areas.

Although purchasing new equipment may be a bit expensive, having the proper equipment will certainly give you more chances of finding new items.

A lot of fanciers make the mistake of focusing solely on the physical attributes of a racing pigeon when it comes to choosing which one to enlist in the actual competitions. While it cannot be denied that physical features such as gait and wing muscle strength play a big factor in becoming a winner, attention should also be placed on the mental ability of a pigeon as early as an age of 3 months. More often than not, it is the mental faculties of your racing pigeon that will ultimately help you win the big prizes especially in competitions that involve long flights.

Take into consideration the fact that pigeons rely on their internal compass, navigational skills and homing instinct in order to fly to a designated point at the shortest route possible. You may have the fastest pigeon in a race, but it won’t really matter if it doesn’t fly in a straight line towards its goal. The more intelligent pigeons can orient themselves really well to any given location and have an innate feel of its coordinates.

These types of pigeons can be found by looking for bloodlines that can fly at very long distances. Young ones can fly at a distance of 300-350 miles while yearlings can fly up to 500 miles. These progenies are able to benefit from the genes of their parents whose long flights have helped them develop their intelligence as long distance flyers. The ability to stay in flight for long hours has provided them opportunities in developing their decision-making skills in times of fatigue. These birds also have extensive experience in dealing with any type of weather, which should be beneficial given the fact that the weather can be unpredictable at times.

This is why pigeons that are competitive in short races don’t necessary become winners when joining long ones. Not having the experience to brave the hazards of long flights, these pigeons didn’t get to hone their heart, intelligence and stamina. Most importantly, their homing instincts are too undeveloped to be able to spot the shortest route; these pigeons also tend to lose their way easily. As a result, short distance racers quit at the slightest provocation.

Keeping the pigeons healthy is also very important and that is why physical conditioning should always be administered the moment a young pigeon learns to fly in order to develop strength, stamina and recovery time. This means having them fly consecutive weeks at a distance of 200-350 miles. The moment you spot a pigeon that easily give up after a few weeks, no matter how fast it is, is the time to judge that bird as incapable of winning any race competitions.

Always keep in mind that heredity plays a big factor in determining a winner. While it doesn’t guarantee that a super pigeon will have competitive offspring, it sure does increase its chances. This is small-scale evolution doing its own work, and we might as well work with nature to find success in the sport.

It is important that you verify the accuracy of the information tagged to a pigeon before making any purchases. Lastly, make sure to have a holistic approach in picking the right racing pigeon. If you take stock of a pigeon’s mental faculties as well as its physical ones, you just might be on your way to raising a champion.
