Police round up 12 teenage suspects over lesbianism

Hell was let loose, last week, in Oto-Owori area, Ijanikin, Lagos State, after a 16-year-old member of the famous Abogun family, made startling confessions about how she was initiated into cultism and lesbianism by the younger sister of her uncle’s wife. Parents of the victim who were shocked by the confession reportedly alerted the police after she was caught while attempting to sneak out of the house with some items demanded by her cult members.

Revelations
According to the victim (names withheld), who completed her secondary education in June, “it was Tope who introduced me into lesbianism and cultism early last year. On Friday, at about 7-8pm, I received a call from Tope that I should bring my red jacket, which is the cult uniform and a jack-knife for her. While I was attempting to sneak out of the house to meet her, I was accosted by my brothers who checked the bag I was carrying and found the cult jacket and the jack-knife. They called on my parents who demanded to know how I got those items.

Becoming lesbian partner
“Initially, she forced me into becoming her lesbian partner. She threatened me that if I failed to do it, my life was at stake. When I became her lover, we took a blood oath as Tope used a blade to cut my hand and licked the blood. She also cut her hand and asked me to lick the blood. She threatened that she must not see me with anyone, whether male or female but she was free to go out with others as she has other lovers. I have been her lover for over a year now and I became her lover before I completed my secondary education.
“After Tope introduced me to lesbianism, she forced me into their cult. The night I was initiated into Aiye cult, I was blindfolded. Members of the cult gave me a gun to take an oath, declaring that I would not reveal anything about the cult to anyone. They said if I ever revealed anything about the cult to anyone, the same gun that I used to take the oath would be used to take my life. Thereafter, about twenty of the males present at the initiation slept with me one after the other.

Strange gun appears
“Two months ago, I stole my father’s N50, 000 and gave to her. There was a time she gave me a gun to keep for her. I kept the gun in my book-shelf two days. She gave the gun to me because she said she couldn’t take it home. Later, she collected it and gave it to a member of the cult. I really don’t know what they use the weapon for. The red jacket which is the cult uniform was given to me by Segun. He is the leader of the Aiye cult. Since I became a member, I haven’t been able to go anywhere with them because of how difficult it is for me to leave home as my parents don’t allow me out after 6pm, and most of their activities are usually in the night. There was a time they asked me to trail my elder brother because they said he is arrogant.”

Shooting at birthday party
In her defence, 18-year-old Tope (surname withheld) who initially confessed that she gave the gun to Kemi to keep because she could not take it home, later denied the allegation that she is a cultist.

According to her, “I have known Kemi from my childhood. I am a salesgirl. I was arrested because the victim said I introduced her into cultism and lesbianism but I am not a cultist, and she didn’t give me money.

“I have not seen Kemi for more than a month now, since my birthday which I celebrated on June 21. Although they fired a gun at my birthday party, I don’t know who fired the gunshot but Samuel was with a gun that night, and I know that Samuel is a cultist and he attended my birthday party. It was a cult guy called Daddy that threatened that if I refuse to join their cult, he will deal with me and shoot me in the legs with a gun.”

Recruiting young girls as armourers
Crime Alert gathered that young girls were recruited into the cult group as they are used as armourers who keep the ammunitions for them any time they go for operation. It was learned that based on the revelations, the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Ijanikin Division of Lagos State, SP Robinson Eregare, swung into action and succeeded in clamping down on all the suspected cultists connected with the victim’s initiation. Among those arrested were Musa Kareem, Austine Ebosoje and ten others.

Police reacts
Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu said Temitope Famati, an 18-year-old lesbian, Ogunsan Kemi , another 20-year-old lesbian, Oseni Lukman, 30; Chidi Okafor, 25; Musa Kareem, 26; Austine Ebozoje, a 19- year-old pirate, Segun Sowumi, Olatokunbo Babatunde, 18; Gbelebu Samuel, 17 and Hussan Azeez, 30, were among the cultists arrested so far.

Who and what defines you in the summer of 2015? Are you just taking every day as it comes your way with no real direction? Do you ever wonder why some other people are successful and you are not? It takes vision and a plan that you can set in motion. It is time to start re-thinking how you are using your God-given special gifts. Yes, you have them but you have been drifting. It is high time you take advantage of what you were given and then start a plan of action.

Earl Nightingale said "You become what you think about". What are you thinking about? It is time to use your gift and re-direct your vision to productivity. If you don't do that, no one is going to do it for you.
Nightingale believed that to be really successful, you needed to plant your goals in your mind. What we plant, then can be harvested and returned to us in the form of success or failure. With this in mind, be sure to plant some realistic goals. Have the determination and drive to bring those possible and positive goals to the finish line. It will take a lot of work but it will be worth it in the long run.

Embark on a search for knowledge. Get off the computer and go to the library where it is quiet and less distractive. Read about successful people and how they did things to reach their goals. Start being influenced by the right sources and successful people. Change your environment and make a fresh start.

Napoleon Hill had lived in poverty but went on to be a highly successful individual. He wrote "Think and Grow Rich". "What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve" he said. See how Nightingale was influenced by Napoleon Hill. Well he in turn was influenced by Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie believed that the process of success could be elaborated in a simple formula that could be duplicated by the average person.

Since he was impressed by the younger Hill, he commissioned him to interview many successful business men to discover and publish such a formula. Do and think how successful people think. Take the special gifts and use them effectively utilizing the wisdom of past successful people. Carnegie had a plan and goal and was incredibly successful in the steel industry.

Inspiration can come from past figures or from current motivational speakers such as Anthony Robbins. Put one of his recordings on at bedtime and be inspired by him as you aspire to greatness. You don't need to re-invent the wheel. It is already available. There is much you can learn from those who have climbed the ladder of success already. Today, you can also find a mentor who is willing to share some acquired knowledge.

Now is the time to start being productive. Change your direction with a good attitude. Get on the right path. Set some goals and make it happen by taking advantage of your special gift or gifts. Just think about what you possess that is different than anyone else in the world.

Obamamania sweeps Kenya as resourceful businesses cash in on visit

Obama's visit to his father's homeland might be a short one, but Kenyan entrepreneurs are hoping that it will have long lasting benefits on the country's economic development.

Preparations have been in full swing for weeks, with Nairobi abuzz with excitement and anticipation.

The U.S. president will travel to the Kenyan capital later this week to address the sixth Global Entrepreneurship Summit. The immediate consequences of the visit will be clearly felt in the city, with airways and roads gearing up for a complete lockdown.

#Obamigration

Many will undoubtedly flock to Nairobi for the event, but some might actually want to get away from the chaos.

One travel agency has playfully capitalized on this, offering an escape route to those who'd rather dwell in calmer pastures.

"Nairobi is going crazy as we wait for POTUS to come -- It's a big deal for our country but this comes with a lot of uncertainty around traffic jams, communication, security and all these funny looking helicopters we are seeing," Agosta Liko, CEO of Pesapal/Ticketsasa, told CNN.

"That's why we thought of #Obamigration, to offer easy 'Get out of Town' weekend escapes."

The catchy idea seems to be paying off: "We are having a record month because of the #Obamigration Campaign. Kenya offers a lot for travelers no matter the budget, time and country of origin. President Obama's visit will make it easier for our tourism industry to continue growing."

The hashtag, which first appeared last year when Obama unveiled new immigration policies, is not the only one currently re-purposed for the historic trip: the preparations in Nairobi are, in fact, being hailed as a new #Obamacare.

Obama craze

Overall, the city is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on renovations, while the Kenyatta International convention center, where the summit will be held, has received refurbishment and security enhancements to the tune of SH300 million ($3 million), according to local reports.

Particular care has been taken to clean up and secure the highways and streets that will witness the passage of "The Beast," the armored car that will transport the President, which has been spotted in Nairobi days ahead of Obama's arrival.

The Obama craze has spared no sector, from mobile phone ringtones offering extracts from his speeches, to bespoke billboards highlighting products of all kinds in the light of the President's arrival.

And while the disruption brought on by the lockdown might actually impair the daily routine of some businesses, the overall effect promises to be beneficial in the long term, analysts say.

Boosting ties

In an article published by Roll Call, Kenya's Ambassador to the United States, Robinson Njeru Githae, has expressed the wish that the visit will strengthen the business links between the two countries, noting that "With deposit insurance covering 95 percent of bank accounts and more than half of Kenyans participating in mobile-phone banking, Kenya's financial sector is an engine of economic growth."

He also requests that the U.S. allow nonstop flights to and from Kenya, promoting trade and tourism -- a plea that will be renewed during the summit, in the hope that the FAA will grant Kenya the "category one" status required for U.S. airlines to offer direct flights.

In a video released ahead of the summit, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta welcomed Obama to a "land of opportunity," stating that "Kenya is a country that epitomizes the transformational power of possibility, a land once know for its savannah, now earning international repute as a Silicon Savannah."

Turkish fighter jets pound ISIL positions in Syria

Turkey has launched air strikes against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) positions in Syria following a suicide bomb attack by a suspected ISIL affiliate in Suruc.

Three F-16 fighter jets bombed three ISIL targets from Diyarbakir airbase shortly before 4am local time on Friday, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu's office said in a statement.

"Four guided bombs targeted two headquarters and an assembly point," the statement said.

Meanwhile, Turkish anti-terrorism police raided more than 100 suspected ISIL, Kurdish and leftist armed group locations across the country in an overnight operation late Thursday.

One member of the Marxist Revolutionary People's Liberation Party Front (DHKP/C), was killed in an exchange of fire with police forces during the raids in the Bagcilar neighbourhood of Istanbul.

The Istanbul raids, carried out in 26 districts of the city, were supported by 5,000 police officers and helicopters.

In Ankara, at least nine people were detained in 12 different locations.

In total, similar operations were carried out in 13 provinces, resulting in 251 detentions, according to the coordination centre of the Turkish Prime Ministry.

The air strikes and raids came shortly after US defence officials said Ankara had agreed to allow US planes to launch air strikes against ISIL from its airbase at Incirlik, close to the Syrian border.

The decision was disclosed on Thursday, a day after a telephone call between President Barack Obama and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, and follows long-time reluctance by Ankara to become engaged in the fight against ISIL fighters.

Turkey has faced increasing insecurity along its 900km border with Syria.

Earlier on Thursday, Turkey fired tank shells across the frontier after fire from ISIL fighters killed a Turkish soldier near Kilis, an area where Ankara had recently sent reinforcements.

The ability to fly manned bombing raids out of Incirlik, a major base used by both US and Turkish forces, against targets in nearby Syria could be a big advantage. Such flights have had to fly mainly from the Gulf.

The US officials declined to give details of the agreement with Turkey, and spokesmen declined to confirm it officially, saying it was up to Turkey to confirm. Turkish officials declined to comment on the report.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Obama and Erdogan agreed to "deepen" cooperation in the fight against ISIL.

Asked specifically about the use of Incirlik, he told reporters: "I'm not able to talk about some of those issues because of specific operations security concerns".

The news came as one Turkish army officer has been killed and two soldiers injured in cross-border gunfire with ISIL fighters inside Syria on Thursday.

Turkish media reported that ISIL fighters shot at the Turkish army in Kilis, a Turkish border town. Anadolu News Agency reporters told Al Jazeera that the Turkish army immediately retaliated by attacking an ISIL base on Syrian territory, killing at least one fighter.

Al Jazeera's Mohammed Jamjoom, reporting from Suruc, said there was tension at the Turkish-Syrian border.

"The Turkish media is saying that this [exchange of fire] is very substantial," he said. "Turkish media is calling this the first direct clashes between ISIL and Turkish military."

Clashes continued late on Thursday, with the Turkish army heavily targeting ISIL targets in Syria.

The Turkish military released a statement confirming the reports of the officer's death, stating that five ISIL fighters opened fire on the soldiers who then returned fire.

"One officer was killed and two soldiers were wounded," the statement said.

Following the attack, the Turkish government deployed more forces on the Syrian border.

Bride dies after being struck by lightning on her honeymoon

A man in Colorado, is devastated after his bride died while on their honeymoon vacation.

Chaffee County police said that 31-year-old Kathleen Bartlett, was killed just 6 days after getting married to 32-year-old Ryan Pocius, while vacationing on Mount Yale.

According to the police investigation, around 1:15 p.m., the two were about 12,400 feet up the mountain when they were hit by lighting.

Tourists at the scene had to walk an hour to get service for their cellphones in order to call the police. It took rescuers until 5:00 p.m., to get to the injured couple.

The bride was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other hikers suffered minor injuries.

BlackBerry might design a bacteria-free smartphone for hospitals

As the company seemingly aims to make a dent in the health care industry, BlackBerry hopes to get things going by possibly designing a bacteria-free smartphone intended for hospitals, reports BNN.

BlackBerry CEO John Chen made the announcement during a visit to a hospital north of Toronto, where BlackBerry, alongside ThoughtWire and Cisco Systems, announced a new project that provides nurses and doctors in a Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital unit with a portable messaging and alert system.

“Health care workers have to be worried about one less thing to wipe down” with a bacteria-free smartphone, said Chen.

Even though he said BlackBerry isn’t developing such a phone yet, Mackenzie Health chief medical information officer Aviv Gladman implied such a phone would be of great benefit to nurses and doctors, since they have to wipe down their phones on a regular basis due to their abilities to transfer bacteria into patients’ rooms. Even wiping down a phone with alcohol wipes, however, might not be very effective, and due to their hectic jobs, medical professionals aren’t always adept at remembering to do so.

Interestingly, however, Gladman revealed one of the main reasons patients die in hospitals is due to hospital-acquired infections. Even though equipping staff with bacteria-free phones won’t be the magical bullet that eliminates such infections, they would certainly go a long way towards minimizing deaths.

If BlackBerry starts production on a bacteria-free smartphone, it wouldn’t be the first time it thought out of the box for a smartphone. The Canadian company released the decidedly square BlackBerry Passport last year, with the company rumored to release a sequel of sorts sometime this year. BlackBerry is also rumored to be working on a slider phone, a design we haven’t seen in the land of smartphones in a number of years, as well as an Android smartphone.

Ojukwu never believed I’ll go to war over Biafra — Gowon

Elated by the successful outcome of the last general elections, former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, Thursday, said that despite the assertions of naysayers and uncertified futurologists who predicted the break-up of Nigeria in 2015, the effective prayers of the people of faith moved the hands of God to intervene in the affairs of the country.

In his remark, at a lecture entitled: “The Church and Nigerian Nation: Impact, Challenges and the Way Forward,” to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria (FGCN), held at the National Headquarters of the Church in Lagos, Gowon who chaired the occasion said, that Nigeria has remained together should surprise no one because God has given the nation the assurance that He would always answer Nigerians whenever they call upon Him.

Recalling the events that led to the civil war in 1967-1970, he jokingly said that his colleague Chukwuemeka Ojukwu never believed he (Gowon) would call out Nigeria’s fighting forces to fight against the Biafran side in order to keep Nigeria one.

According to Gowon, the Bible has consistently been his companion from his childhood till date, adding that his colleague, Ojukwu had said then, he (Gowon) was a Christian, who carries around suitcase with a Bible inside, and so wouldn’t like to call out the Nigerian Federal forces to war in order to stop the secession.

Gowon said: “All my life, from childhood to this present day, the Bible has consistently been my companion. I discovered quite early that every word of God contained therein speak to every situation in the life of every man or woman, great or small and to occurrences in every nation, big or small. Since these words are self-evidently true, they are reliable and unfailing. This should surprise no one because God Himself gave us the assurance that He would always answer when we call upon Him.

“You will agree that, across time, happenings in our fatherland have almost always ensured that people of faith across denominations in Christendom and in Islam kept unending vigil for the love of country. Let me share a joke of what happened before the civil war in 1967-1970. I think it was my colleague Emeka Ojukwu that said I know Jack, he is a Christian, who always carries a suitcase around with the Bible inside. He wouldn’t like to fight. Unfortunately, he was proved wrong. However, it was through the grace of God, that we were able to keep Nigeria one.

“It was the prayers of people of God and the bravery of our fighting forces that kept this country together. After the civil war, it was wisdom from God to willing and obedient hearts that helped us to initiate and implement programmes that best served the interest of the people. It was God that helped to stem the tide of bloody coups in Nigeria so that we can enjoy democracy today.

“Even when naysayers wrote off this nation and various uncertified futurologists predicted the break up of Nigeria by 2015 as a bye-product of the recently concluded general elections, the effective prayers of people of faith moved the hands of God and He once more intervened in the affairs of our dear country.”

He added: “I was in Addis Ababa for a conference and when the news came that the incumbent president had congratulated his opponent, everyone at the conference was happy and they started congratulating me and other Nigerians at the conference. Let us imagine what would have happened if President Goodluck Jonathan had refused to do that.”

Speaking further, Gowon, who congratulated Foursquare Gospel Church on the occasion of its Diamond Jubilee celebrations, however said
religious leaders in Nigeria must stand in the gap between temporal power and the people and must never cease to speak the truth to those
in power, adding that religious leaders must positively advise leaders on the way forward and must be fair and honest in their dealings with
both sides.

He further said they must be conciliatory, not condemnatory and help the leadership to correctly interpret policies to the people.
According to the retired General, this will ensure that the polity is not heated up for no reason than the protection of the self-interest of a few powerful elite members of the society.

In his lecture, the Guest Speaker and Vice Chancellor, McPherson University (McU), Seriki-Sotayo, Ogun State, Prof. Adeniyi Agunbiade, who noted that the role of the Church and the Nigerian State should be complimentary, urged all Nigerians to put hands on deck with the President-elect, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to bring about the much needed change in Nigeria.

According to Agunbiade, “It’s never too late for the Church to lay the right foundation for leadership. The Church must partner with government in the social advocacy to instil moral value and honesty among Nigerians.”

Meanwhile, the General Overseer, FGCN, disclosed that within six decades of the church’s existence, it has been positioned as one of the country’s leading Pentecostal movements, highly regarded for its scrupulous adherence to the immutability and sanctity of the word of God.

BlackBerry Passport 2 Rumors: Check out the next square QWERTY phone from BlackBerry

BlackBerry unveiled the Passport just last September, so it might be too soon for the company to unveil a successor this summer. However, based on pictures obtained by N4BB, it looks like BlackBerry already has a second square, QWERTY phablet lined up for later this year.

Dubbed the BlackBerry Oslo, which is likely its codename instead of final product name, the smartphone seen in the images looks a lot like the device we saw back in April. Much like then, the Oslo looks to have a metal housing, with a three-row QWERTY keyboard right below the very square 1,440 x 1,440 display. Reportedly powering the Oslo is a Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor and 3GB of RAM. There’s also a 3,450mAh battery that should keep the device chugging along for a while. Finally, a 13-megapixel camera can be found around back.

If these specifications sound familiar, that’s because the Passport packs most of the same internals, making the Oslo more of a refresh than a reimagining of its predecessor. BlackBerry could be adding a new Passport in order to keep up with the improved smartphone designs we’ve seen lately from the likes of Samsung and LG. According to previous rumors, the Oslo might make its debut later this month and be released shortly thereafter in Europe and Asia.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that BlackBerry decided to return to the Passport’s design language, since the company’s CEO John Chen revealed we would see at least one more generation of the Passport make its way to store shelves. The upcoming revival of the unusual device is thanks in part to the Passport’s awkward, yet warm, reception. In the same report, BlackBerry said it would release one unconventional device each year, so perhaps the Oslo completes the company’s yearly quota.

Then again, we could see BlackBerry’s enigmatic slider smartphone hit store shelves sometime this autumn, and that handset packs a slider design we haven’t seen on smartphones in quite some time.

Chemically Modified Nucleotides Could Be Used for Specific Killing of Cancer Cells

Recycled DNA building blocks are cancer's Achilles heel. Normal cells have highly selective mechanisms to ensure that nucleosides - the chemical blocks used to make new strands of DNA - don't carry extra, unwanted chemical changes, finds Ludwig Cancer Research scientists.

But they also found that some types of cancer cells aren't so selective. These cells incorporate chemically modified nucleosides into their DNA, which is toxic to them. The findings indicate that it might be possible to use modified nucleotides for specific killing of cancer cells. Lead author Skirmantas Kriaucionis said that they sought to find out what happens to these modified bases when DNA is recycled, and were excited that their biochemical analysis uncovered "loopholes," which could hopefully be exploited for intervention in cancer.

Exploiting the unexpected killing of cancer cells by epigenetically modified nucleotides demonstrated in a model system that modified nucleotides can be used as a specific anti-cancer agent. Kriaucionis said that it has been suggested that CDA inactivates cytidine analogues that were already used in the clinic to treat some blood and pancreatic cancers. Nutritionists say that belly fat is tied directly to poor eating habit. They note that eating late night dinner is a sure way to pack on extra pounds in the mid section.

Consultant Nutritionist, Dr. Tayo Akinsanya, explains that it is often difficult for the body to digest food once it is in a relaxed state – the natural thing that happens at night.

Akinsanya explains that the digestive system is bound to relax on some of its functions once the day is winding down, and meals taken during this period are often not digested or its nutrients used up. He warns that the danger that lies in this is the fact that undigested foods are later converted to calories.

He says, “While it’s true that your body naturally burns some flab as you sleep, it might not be able to efficiently do so when you go to bed on a full stomach. In fact, the body is overwhelmed when you load it with food at night so much so that it does not even touch it till the next day.

“Don’t forget that you will quickly add breakfast the next day, so the body has to digest two meals within a short while. When it eventually does in the morning, you will have excess calories because you have also eaten breakfast.

“When calories are not used up due to inactivity, the body metabolises them and turns them to fat cells, which are naturally stored around the belly. Continuous cycle of late night snacking results in a bulging belly.”

Aside from causing belly fat, Akinsanya adds that eating late and sleeping on a full stomach increase one’s risk of developing acid reflux and indigestion. To prevent these conditions, the nutritionist counsels that one should eat smaller meals at night and also delay going to bed for some hours afterwards.

“If it will be impossible for you to avoid eating at night, maybe because you close late, then I recommend that you eat like a pauper at night. It must be a very small portion and don’t lie down for at least three hours after dinner.

“I’d rather you snacked on fruit if you feel a bit hungry at night, instead of devouring a bowl of rice and meat or, a plate of solid food.”

“Belly fat puts unnecessary pressure on blood vessels around the area; it disrupts blood circulation, it increases the volume of cholesterol flowing in the blood, increasing one’s risk for heart attacks.”

2 arrested with corpse of 2-yr-old girl in Aba

UMUAHIA — THE Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Wednesday, arrested two men with the corpse of a two-year-old girl

The suspects were apprehended when they were trying to bury the corpse in an abandoned pit in Osisioma, near Aba.

The middle-aged suspects are Jonathan Nwogu from Mgboko Umuola in Obingwa Local Government Area of the state and Chibuike Anubuife from Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

They were caught at Enyimba filling station near Ariaria International, Aba while trying to take the girl’s corpse in a sack for burial.

Parading the suspects in Umuahia, the state commandant of the NSCDC, Andy Dateer, said: “It was a very sad day for the command.”

According to him, his men on a routine patrol caught two men in possession of a corpse of a girl of about two years old in a sack. He said his men were attracted to the scene following a quarrel between them and a man who would have conveyed them to the scene in his car.

“As people started gathering, the owner of the car zoomed off and my men arrested the two suspects,” he said.

Dateer said they will be handed over to the Police for proper investigation.

“If they had not been saved by his men the public would have lynched them and the society would not be able to know the mystery behind their act,” he said.

In an interview, Chibuike Anubuife said he saw the other man for the first time and he asked him to help him bury the dead girl.

Anubuife said that he was still discussing the logistics for the burial of the girl before the men of the NSCDC arrested them.

In his response, the other suspect, Jonathan Nwogu said a man approached him to help him bury the girl.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has barred pregnant women, nursing mothers and students engaged in postgraduate studies from enlisting in the national service across the country, until they are free to participate effectively.

Rising from a two-day pre-mobilisation workshop for the 2015 Batch “B” NYSC programme, held in Kaduna, Director-General of the NYSC, Brig-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, stated that the exemption of pregnant women and nursing mothers, as well as post-graduate students from national service was because they would not be able to undergo the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC.

The four cardinal programmes include mobilisation, orientation, primary assignment and winding-up passing out parade.

In a communique, the NYSC also resolved that henceforth, pregnant women and children would no longer be allowed into orientation camps across the country for service under the scheme established by the Gen. Yakubu Gowon administration in 1973.

Arguing that prospective corps members must go through the four stages of national service to qualify to receive certificate of national service, Olawumi faulted a situation whereby prospective corps members, especially pregnant women and nursing mothers, would be absent from the stages of the national service, only to resurface for posting to their various places of primary assignments.

Meanwhile, the resolution workshop tagged: “ICT and NYSC Mobilization Process: Towards Eliminating Identified Challenges,” added that henceforth, documents for concessional posting request on marital or health grounds would be forwarded on-line as against the old practice of “bringing such to the NYSC headquarters in Abuja.”

It noted that prospective corps members would henceforth be given the opportunity to choose their choice outside their socio-cultural and linguistic areas, using ICT solution.

This, according to the NYSC, is in a bid to tackle the problems of deluge of concessional request with which the scheme is inundated with regularly.

Popular stand-up comedian, Basketmouth (real name Bright Okpocha), is in the news again. This time, it is because he has taken a swipe at the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Midway into his show, tagged BM Uncensored, which held in Houston, Texas in the United States, a few days ago, the comedian accused the Jonathan administration of doing nothing else other than “stealing” money during its six-year tenure.

A copy of the video posted on Youtube shows Basketmouth, who was dressed in a sleeveless top and dark trousers, speaking his mind about the high level of corruption that prevailed in the country under Jonathan’s watch.

In the video, the comedian said, “The funny thing is that Buhari is now in power and everyone is hating the guy under two months. I am normally into politics, but when I see some s..t I say it. Goodluck was there for six years and all they did was steal money.”

So if you're concerned about cancer prevention, take comfort in the fact that some simple lifestyle changes can make a big difference. Consider these seven cancer prevention tips.

1. Don't use tobacco

Using any type of tobacco puts you on a collision course with cancer. Smoking has been linked to various types of cancer — including cancer of the lung, bladder, cervix and kidney. And chewing tobacco has been linked to cancer of the oral cavity and pancreas. Even if you don't use tobacco, exposure to secondhand smoke might increase your risk of lung cancer.

Avoiding tobacco — or deciding to stop using it — is one of the most important health decisions you can make. It's also an important part of cancer prevention. If you need help quitting tobacco, ask your doctor about stop-smoking products and other strategies for quitting.

2. Eat a healthy diet

Although making healthy selections at the grocery store and at mealtime can't guarantee cancer prevention, it might help reduce your risk. Consider these guidelines:

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Base your diet on fruits, vegetables and other foods from plant sources — such as whole grains and beans.
Limit fat. Eat lighter and leaner by choosing fewer high-fat foods, particularly those from animal sources. High-fat diets tend to be higher in calories and might increase the risk of overweight or obesity — which can, in turn, increase cancer risk.
If you choose to drink alcohol, do so only in moderation. The risk of various types of cancer — including cancer of the breast, colon, lung, kidney and liver — increases with the amount of alcohol you drink and the length of time you've been drinking regularly.

3. Maintain a healthy weight and be physically active

Maintaining a healthy weight might lower the risk of various types of cancer, including cancer of the breast, prostate, lung, colon and kidney.

Physical activity counts, too. In addition to helping you control your weight, physical activity on its own might lower the risk of breast cancer and colon cancer.

Adults who participate in any amount of physical activity gain some health benefits. But for substantial health benefits, strive to get at least 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes a week of vigorous aerobic physical activity. You can also do a combination of moderate and vigorous activity. As a general goal, include at least 30 minutes of physical activity in your daily routine — and if you can do more, even better.

Robbers Attend Church Services In Abuja, Robs The Church Of Offerings Collected

The popular adage, many days for the thief,
one day for the owner of the house, came
through when two armed robbery suspects
were arrested by men of the Special Anti-
Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Federal Capital
Territory Police Command in Abuja.
The two suspects who belonged to a gang of
four robbers that specialized in joining genuine
worshippers to attending Sunday services and
then returning to steal the offering for the day
from the same churches, met their waterloo
after robbing the Kingdom Connection Church,
Jabi Daki-Biyu and St. Matthew Catholic Church
in Karmo Abuja.
In a brief chat with Sunday Sun, one of the
arrested suspects, Isaac Nyam, 35, confessed
that he was among the gang that robbed the
church, and explained the modus operandi of
the gang.
His words: “We specialized in robbing
churches in Abuja.
Usually one member of our gang would attend
service in the church before we go to rob the
place. When the service is on, we will watch
what they are doing, especially during the
offering time. We will watch where the ushers
take the offering box after the service and in
the night we go back for the operation.”
Armed with the intelligence gathered, the FCT
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilson Inalegwu
said that gang struck on June 15, 2015, at
the Kingdom Connection Ministry around
3.00am, where they overpowered the two se
curity men. They also tied up some members
of the church living within the premises of the
church; the gang then gained access into the
auditorium and carted away the offering,
musical instruments, laptops, GSM handsets
and also removed the brain box of church’s
Toyota Hummer bus.
Done with their unholy deed, the gang
departed, gladdened that it had executed a
successful heist, but providence turned the
table on them as information was relayed to
the police command, and SARS operatives
were activated to go smoke out the culprits.
Through diligent investigations, the police
located and stormed the hideout of the gang.
Two members of the gang were arrested while
the other two escaped with bullet wounds. The
police recovered an English Berata pistol and
three other pistols from the gang.
Commenting on the robbery experience, a
member of Kingdom Connection Church, Mr.
Philp Oseni said: “We were shocked when they
came; they tied up the two security men on
duty and some of our members living within
the church premises and went straight to
where we keep the offering box.”
The Commissioner of Police assured that the
suspects would be charged to court soon.

18-Yr-Old Girl Sentenced To Six-Hours In Jail For Killing Her Rapist Father

A court in Uganda sentenced a teen age girl to a six-hour jail term for killing her rapist father.

It was probably one of the most unusual sentences delivered in the country, but the case was just as unusual as it was heartrending.

The Masaka High Court presided over by Lady Justice Margaret Oumo Oguli, Monday heard that 18-year-old girl killed her father on May 8, after he had raped her.
It was not the first time he was doing so. The 58-year-old man had been raping the daughter repeatedly from the time she was 13 years old.

Prosecution led by Peter Mugisha told court that the convict violently killed her father using a knife and a panga after the deceased performed sexual acts against her.

Mr Mugisha, however, asked court to give her a maximum sentence which requires death, saying the act she performed was illegal.

His argument was that she should have reported the matter to police and not killed him.

Defence led by Mr Edward Kikirengoma, however, did not agree with the State, saying the act the father did to his daughter was condemned, especially in Buganda Kingdom.

Mr Kikirengoma told court that the convict needed to take charge of her life since she had become tired of her father’s cruel acts, adding that court should look into the condition of the girl as she was six months pregnant, with the child of her father.

"..... revealed that as she was sleeping in the house, she did not know that her mother, 56, had gone out; her father learnt that his wife wasn’t in the house and came into her bed and raped her. Since they were living in a one-room rented house, the father took advantage of his own children," Mr Kikirengoma said.

It emerged that the man had also impregnated his three other daughters. Defence therefore asked court to give the killer a lenient sentence.
