Nokia X3-02 Evaluation

2012-04-24T09:00:00.001-07:00

"What is it about Nokia?"

They release a terrible slide phone, the Nokia X3, then they come out having a completely different phone and contact it the X3-02, hoping no one will notice. Confusing or what? But a minimum of they maintain on trying, and also the X3-02 is really a great deal much better than the X3. It's not an update you comprehend, it is a totally different model. Perhaps Nokia's environmental folk think they have to recycle names as well as raw materials.

Anyway, the X3-02 is a new breed of phone called Touch and Type. It's got a keypad and a touchscreen, you see. Sony Ericsson have been here currently using the Aino and that ended in tears, but at least Nokia have priced the X3-02 sensibly. The important feature from the X3-02 is the screen/keypad mixture, so let's talk about that initial. We've by no means been a fan of alphanumeric keypads. Ever. But a lot of individuals appear happy with them, and it's apparent that pairing the keypad with a touchscreen has got to become a good thought. The screen's quite small, and becoming resistive it isn't probably the most responsive touchscreen ever, but it's better than not having one. In fact, we believe it's an excellent idea.

Featurewise, the X3-02 is once more an oddity. It has a lot of some issues and not sufficient of other people. In short, it's greatest assets are its extraordinary thinness and lightweightedness; its brilliant array of connectivity such as high speed 3G HSDPA and Wi-Fi, its music player and radio and its general funkiness and wide choice of colours. On the poor side, the camera has full concentrate rather than autofocus, and no flash either, no GPS and not a lot of memory.

On balance, it's a good phone, and we're totally sold on the Touch and Type concept. Give it a try, you might like it. Just make it clear that it is the X3-02 you would like. On no circumstances get the X3 by mistake. And beware, because numerous customers are reporting the old Nokia problems of freezing, crashing, blank screens and common breaking that is all too familiar.

A Short Review of Sony Ericsson Vivaz

2012-04-23T09:00:00.002-07:00

The Vivaz is a touchscreen smartphone running the Symbian operating system. The headline function of the Vivaz is its HD video recording. It is capable of recording super-sharp videos at 720p resolution, with continuous autofocus, a video light and an image stabiliser. Its a pretty impressive capability to get a mobile phone, and you can easily upload your videos to YouTube to show the world. You may also make video calls.

The still camera is pretty incredible as well, getting an 8.1 megapixel resolution, face detection autofocus, an LED flash and geo-tagging. For the price band, this has got to become among the greatest cameras accessible. It cannot beat the 12 megapixel monster camera from the Satio, but it comes fairly close. So we'd say that the photographic performance from the Vivaz is among the very greatest presently available.

You can view pictures on the Vivaz's impressive display. Having a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels, it is not quite big sufficient to display your videos at full HD resolution, but it is nonetheless a really finely detailed display. The phone is totally touchscreen operated, with handwriting recognition thrown in as a bonus.

The Vivaz also comes having a great media player, and we're delighted to determine that Sony Ericsson have included a three.5mm audio jack, so you are able to plug in any standard-fit headphones for high quality audio. With microSD memory vehicles of as much as 16GB supported, there is a lot of space to shop your music collection, and there's an FM radio included as well.

HSPA offers fast web access, and you may also use WiFi if you are inside a WiFi hotspot for additional download speed. Other connectivity choices include Bluetooth, USB and a TV-Out connection so that you can view your pictures and videos directly on a big screen. You will find dedicated apps for Facebook and YouTube too.

Battery life seems to be great, even though it will be even much better in the event you remember to close unwanted apps and turn off Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS when not in use. Some people adore it, but numerous others are not so happy. However, now the option to purchase is in your hands.

Nokia X3 : A Brief Review

2012-04-22T00:54:00.000-07:00

The Nokia X3 is an inexpensive slide-design music phone. It features a great music player, FM radio, memory card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack and stereo speakers. It also comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera and has great battery life, but is let down by a poor quality keypad and is well over-priced for what you get.

As to whether or not Nokia X3's? It's a budget music player with a slide design. Everybody wants touchscreen phones these days, but maybe not everybody. You perhaps want a telephone having a regular keypad simply because all that touchy-feely stuff never appears to work correctly.

It is a music telephone. It plays music and has stereo loudspeakers. You are able to play your music out loud, if you like that type of thing. If not, it comes having a 3.5mm headphone jack so you can use some proper grown-up headphones. There is an FM radio too, and you are able to add a microSD memory card as much as 16GB and shop your whole collection. It is an Xseries phone as well, so it has dedicated music keys on the front. That's all good.

What else? Well, it is a slide telephone, so it is nice and compact and not as well heavy. No 3G, but battery life is good. The screen's extremely little. The camera's beneath average for the cost too, meaning no autofocus or flash, so don't anticipate to complete a great deal with it. There is small onboard memory and you will find no "extras", just the basics.

HTC Sensation XE Review

2012-04-21T04:32:00.001-07:00

The HTC Sensation XE builds on the strengths from the dual-core Sensation. With an even faster processor, a huge 1730mAh battery and some high quality Beats Audio headsets thrown in for free, this has got to become one of the greatest Android smartphones ever released.

Regardless of being an outstanding telephone in each way, the HTC Sensation hasn't been able to match the large popularity of the Samsung Galaxy S2. But HTC are not taking that lying down. The HTC Sensation XE is an upgraded version from the Sensation that adds in:

• an even quicker 1.5GHz dual-core processor, creating it the fastest mobile so far

• an even bigger 1730mAh battery, which is the biggest battery on any mobile

• the Beats Audio software program with custom made Beats headsets by Dr. Dre,

giving - you guessed it - the ultimate mobile audio expertise, if you believe HTC's

advertising hype.

Do any of these features truly make a difference? With the dual-core Sensation currently supersonic, an extra 300MHz of speed does not truly make a noticeable distinction. Battery power is welcomed, of course, particularly in such a power-hungry device, so this really is a definite plus. And as for Dr Dre and his Beats Audio? Yes, it's a top quality headset and switching on the Beats Audio software program definitely enhances the music. But some high quality Sennheiser headphones and bass boost / equaliser settings would achieve the same finish result. Ultimate mobile audio? We doubt it.

So, HTC have taken an outstanding phone and produced it much better. It is definitely a five star telephone by our reckoning. And but ... and but ... the XE nonetheless won't knock the Galaxy S2 off its top slot, even with the help of Dr. Dre. Why? Simply because it is 30% heavier and 30% fatter than the stealth-like Samsung. And simply because although the XE has 4GB of built-in memory, only 1GB of this is available to the user. Read our HTC Sensation evaluation for much more details.

Reviewing Nokia C5-03

2012-04-21T00:40:00.002-07:00

The Nokia C5-03 will be the successor towards the highly popular Nokia 5230 and is a mid-range smartphone. Physically the phone looks and feels very much like the 5230. It's slightly smaller and lighter, but retains a three.2 inch screen as well as three buttons below. The screen is exactly the same as within the 5230 and will be the same size as the similarly-priced HTC Wildfire. It is a great size for a phone of this price, although becoming resistive instead of capacitive it does take a bit of poking to create it respond occasionally.

Now the 5230 was released a whole year before the C5-03, so we had been anticipating some substantial improvements within the C5-03. But it appears that time is standing nonetheless at Nokia. There is small improvement, and some things have really gone backward. Most gobsmackingly awful is the reality that the C5-03 still uses Symbian Series 60. It's slow, it's unresponsive, it crashes if there is an "r" within the month or perhaps a "d" within the day and in mixture using the inexpensive and nasty resistive screen tends to make for an unpleasant user experience.

The camera has been upgraded to five megapixels, but there is still no flash or autofocus. While the aGPS with Ovi Maps goes some way to redeeming the telephone, the paltry 40MB of built-in memory and also the lack of even video calling tends to make it appear like Nokia are taking the micky with this telephone. They are even quoting an extraordinary battery standby of 25 days. Considering that it is powered by a less-than-impressive 1000 mAh battery, we believe it'll be more most likely to typical a couple of days within the real globe.

This really is not the worst telephone within the world, but it's very mundane. And whenever you consider that it's priced at about the £150 level (that is three times the cost from the nearly identical Nokia 5230) you'd be better off contemplating the HTC Wildfire or maybe even take a punt on the Samsung Wave with its Super AMOLED screen and HD video. Even the antiquated Nokia 5800 is really a much better buy.

Samsung S8530 Wave 2 Review

2012-04-20T09:32:00.000-07:00

The Samsung Wave S8530 or also called Samsung Wave 2 is really a souped-up version of the original Wave, with a bigger screen. It's a cutting-edge telephone having a 3.7 inch Super Clear LCD display, a quick processor, 2GB of built-in memory, a five megapixel camera with HD video and assisted GPS. The Bada operating system provides all of the core smartphone functionality, but third-party apps are extremely thin on the ground.

The Samsung Wave S8530 is really a reincarnation from the original Wave. It looks very comparable, even though it is grown in size to accommodate a bigger 3.7 inch screen, and it's put on weight consequently, even though it's not so heavy that this really is a problem. Every thing else remains pretty a lot the same, so you could view this as an addition to the Wave range rather than a direct replacement for the original wave.

Also as growing the size from the screen from 3.2 inches to 3.7 inches, Samsung have switched technology from Super AMOLED to Super Clear LCD TFT. We've previously described Super AMOLED because the best feasible display on a mobile telephone, so is this an even higher step forward? Which is the winner in the Super Clear LCD vs Super AMOLED battle? Nicely, the difference isn't fantastic at all. But place either of those displays next to a conventional TFT display and the difference is so fantastic that both from the new technologies are clear winners.

Apart from the larger screen and the larger general size, the only substantial alter which will impact customers will be the improve in internal memory from 1GB to 2GB.

So the point is the Samsung Wave S8530 is really a flagship phone with cutting edge functions and its only shortcoming will be the lack of third-party apps for the Bada operating system. But all of the fundamentals are here: mapping, social networking, a document viewer, individual organiser functions, integrated contacts. If the downloading culture does not appeal to you, then you may also stick with the Wave 2 and benefit from the cutting edge hardware at a really competitive cost.

A Review Report of Nokia C3

2012-04-20T09:00:00.001-07:00

The Nokia C3 is a budget version from the well-liked E71 and E72 BlackBerry lookalikes. What a good idea! A BlackBerry Curve for the cost of a spending budget Pay as you Go telephone! And in plenty of methods the C3 delivers on its guarantee. It's definitely a smart searching phone. Plasticky, yes, but what did you expect at this cost? The keyboard works nicely and the telephone feels good within the hand.

The TFT display has been built to a budget, but it's no worse than the screen on the BlackBerry 8520. It has exactly the same size and resolution (2.4 inches, 320 x 240 pixels). The camera's about as fundamental as you can get nowadays, so do not anticipate much from that. The telephone does have an MP3 player, of course, and an FM radio, but pretty a lot every phone does nowadays. Don't appear for GPS or 3G, simply because you will not discover any high-end functions on the C3. But it does have Bluetooth and USB, and it's also Wi-Fi enabled and has a 3.5mm audio jack too. The Wi-Fi could be handy for accessing the web on your telephone, even though don't count on it because some users are experiencing issues obtaining a Wi-Fi connection using the telephone. The C5 has Facebook and Twitter apps that can be accessed from your house screen, but do not anticipate to complete a great deal of internet browsing on such a small screen.

Battery life is truly superb, having a extremely meaty 1320 mAh battery, and not too much work for it to complete. In comparison with high-end smartphones the C3 is like the Duracell Bunny! It is not so hot with regards to memory though, with only 55MB onboard and no memory card included within the sales package. You will need to spend a bit extra to add a microSD card.

The C3 is very much a telephone built to a budget. It's key selling point is the QWERTY keyboard and also the fact that it looks like a BlackBerry. It does e-mail nicely, has great battery life and has Wi-Fi, even though that doesn't always function. It's a Symbian telephone and that may result in freezing and crashing at times. The C3 is among the least expensive BlackBerry-lookalikes, but you need to also consider the BlackBerry 8520, BlackBerry Torch 9860 and Orange Rio 2.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android Review

2012-04-19T06:00:00.001-07:00

What is it that makes the Nexus so unique? The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is one of those phones. The Galaxy Nexus is Samsung's flagship phone for the final quarter of 2011. The Nexus line of phones features a single purpose to demonstrate the ultimate in mobile technology a minimum of in Android flavour. It could be the reality that it's the very first telephone to run the latest version of Android (the stupidly-named Ice Cream Sandwich, version 4.0). It might be the fact that it's the very first telephone having a genuine HD resolution display.

Let's take a look at the screen first, since it defines the factor you initial notice when you hold the telephone inside your palm. Its size! For this really is among the largest displays even seen on a mobile phone. At 4.65 inches it is even bigger than the large display on the Galaxy S2. You might be worried that it is too big. However it doesn't feel that method to us, partly due to the phone's amazing thinness, at just 8.94mm. That's thinner than the iPhone 4S, and it tends to make the telephone perfectly manageable.

The screen isn't just physically large. It is spectacular in every way. Utilizing Super AMOLED technology it renders 16 million colours with super-bright richness and is simple to view outdoors. And it is a genuine HD display, like you get on your flatscreen Tv, but here in miniature. That indicates 1280 x 720 pixels. Yep, that's more pixels than on an iPad 2.

Android version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) brings a wealth of developments. Key features are better efficiency, quicker multi-tasking and higher ease of use. An additional feature of Android 4.0 is voice recognition. This is not like Apple's Siri - your telephone will not respond to complicated directions, but you can a minimum of dictate text messages, and so on and also the voice recognition appears to become correct and reasonably quick.

The camera might not sound great on paper, becoming just five megapixels, but with regards to image high quality it is really one of the best we've observed. Not just are photos extremely sharp and with good colour reproduction, but lag time is near zero, so you'll by no means miss a shot. Autofocus is extremely fast and correct too. You will find also some surprisingly good picture editing tools, plus an automated panorama tool. Video recording is completely initial class, recording at 1080p full HD with very little jerkiness or blur visible.

The Nexus has a 1.2GHz dual core processor and a large 1GB RAM at its heart, so you'll by no means be waiting for it to help keep up with you. Start-up time is extremely fast too. When it comes to storage, you'll find 16GB of built-in memory, but no microSD card slot. We're a bit puzzled by that omission, but we can live with 16GB.

There are no disappointments with regards to the battery though. A big phone requirements a large battery, and Samsung have given the Nexus 1750mAh, which is bigger than the battery on the S2, and appears to become up to the job. Obviously you will find numerous other functions that we haven't had space to review, but certainly this really is really one of the best mobile phone these days.

A Highlight of Nokia Asha 302

2012-04-18T06:10:00.001-07:00

The Asha 302 is really a spending budget BlackBerry-style phone with a complete QWERTY keyboard. Comparable in size and style to other phones of kind - the BlackBerry Curve 8520, Samsung Chat 335 and Orange Rio II. Nokia is lightweight but looks premium with its smart metallic strip design.

It is an excellent telephone for social media and messaging, using the obvious benefit of the physical QWERTY keyboard, plus simple texting, email and instant messaging. A facebook app is provided and also the Asha also comes using the WhatsApp instant messaging app pre-installed.

The screen isn't large, but it is standard for this kind of telephone. Similarly the camera is rather fundamental, at just 3.2 megapixels and no fancy features. Video recording is at a pixel-challenging 176x144 resolution, so do not anticipate to be shooting many films on this thing.

The Asha is extremely nicely equipped for connectivity, with both Wi-Fi and quick 3G HSPA connectivity available for downloading information and messages.

This really is not a smart phone - it runs Nokia's Series 40 operating system, but there are some handy apps pre-installed. The facebook app is nicely integrated, so you can check on updates live. You are able to download a little range of apps from the Nokia Shop too.

The processor is very quick, running at 1GHz, which is faster than many smartphones, and makes everything respond immediately. However, the built-in memory is restricted to 100MB, which isn't a great deal by today's standards. You can add a microSD card for extra storage though.

It is useful to compare the Asha with its competitors. The BlackBerry 8520 expenses about the same, and does every thing the same, except it lacks the Asha's 3G connection. The Samsung Chat costs much less, but once more is missing 3G. The Orange Rio II does have 3G (but not Wi-Fi) and also expenses less than the Nokia. However, the Nokia is really a very great phone in its personal correct, with a great array of features inside a smart and reasonably-priced package.

Samsung Galaxy Mini GT-S5570 Review

2012-04-17T22:32:00.000-07:00

At Mobile Phones UK, we prefer to call a spade a spade. We don't like to contact a telephone "Mini" unless it's. The Samsung Galaxy Mini is not. The Sony Ericsson X10 Mini truly is mini, but as a consequence it suffered from a very little screen size which produced it tricky to make use of and restricted the quantity of apps it could successfully run. The Galaxy Mini, however, has a perfectly normal-sized 3.14 inch screen, and is actually a normal-sized telephone, larger than the HTC Wildfire for instance.

We get the point that this really is a spending budget smartphone although. The cost has fallen nicely below £100 because launch, positioning the Galaxy Mini in between the entry-level Galaxy Europa and the Galaxy Fit, both of which are outstanding phones. The Galaxy Mini runs Android 2.2 (Froyo), which is not the most recent version, but is close sufficient that it won't matter to most customers. On top of that it has Samsung's TouchWiz 3.0 user interface enhancements, with features like the SWYPE-enabled keyboard and social networking integration to enhance the regular Android experience. Having a decent-sized 3.1 inch capacitive screen along with a moderately quick 600MHz processor, the user interface is fairly fluid and responsive the majority of the time.

Being an Android phone, the Galaxy Mini is equipped with an Android music player, FM radio RDS, GPS with Google Maps and the extremely effective Android web browser, plus of course access to more than 150,000 apps through the Android Marketplace. It is a 3G telephone with HSDPA giving download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps, plus Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB. You will find plenty of good factors here to want this telephone.

But in a budget telephone you will find always compromises. The camera is very basic, lacking autofocus and a flash. The screen resolution is quite low as well, for an Android phone. And worst of all is the battery life, that is really extremely poor. These are the reasons why, regardless of its low cost and excellence in numerous respects, we feel the Galaxy Mini is a four star telephone.

In the finish though, the Galaxy Mini is really a great smartphone for all those on a spending budget. It is a step-up from the entry-level Galaxy Europa and a lot cheaper than the Galaxy Ace, and it packs the power of Android 2.2, the really user-friendly functions of TouchWiz along with a decent-sized responsive capacitive screen. It has fantastic features like fast web browsing, GPS with Google Maps and has the hardware to back it up: a fast processor, sufficient memory and all the connectivity options you could dream of.

Orange Rio 2 – Evaluation Report

2012-04-17T06:10:00.000-07:00

The Orange Rio II is a surprising small number. It looks like a BlackBerry, but expenses a fraction of the cost. Yet it gives a lot more than you'd anticipate from the price tag. In some methods it's even better than the BlackBerry 8520 costing twice as much. Orange are expecting this to become their top selling pay-as-you-go phone of 2011, and you are able to see why.

With the BlackBerry looks and also the purse-friendly cost tag, you are able to see at a glance that this really is a telephone for the facebook generation. It features a fantastic QWERTY keyboard, plus the benefit of a touchscreen - something that the BlackBerry 8520 does not have. This is not the highest spec telephone by any indicates, but for messaging it is great. Also as text and video messaging, the Rio II comes pre-configured for push email, and you will find widgets for quick access to facebook and other social networking sites. The Rio II also has the benefit of 3G with HSDPA giving fast access to the web, so there is no hanging around waiting for facebook to load.

There is also a fundamental 3 megapixel camera with video, plus a media player and FM radio. A 3.5mm audio jack lets you plug in your personal headphones. Actually you'll have to, as headphones aren't included in the box.

The built-in memory is 80MB - extremely generous for this price range - and you can add a microSD card to provide a lot of storage for music, and so on. Connectivity is by Bluetooth or mini-USB, along with a USB cable is supplied within the sales package. Battery life isn't fantastic, however.

We believe this is a fabulous little telephone. It is smart, it's simple to use and it is not expensive. We've just got to say it - BlackBerries are not the only fruit.

Short Review of HTC Salsa

2012-04-16T10:00:00.002-07:00

At first glance, it looks like a HTC Wildfire S having a facebook button. But it is much more than that. Check out the develop quality. The physique is metallic and strong, and also the colour is really a kind of metallic-looking grey/blue/lilac. It is an Android phone that looks distinctive, and that's certainly a good thing.

What concerning the facebook button? The blue button tends to draw the eye. It whispers seductively, "press me". So you push the button and suddenly you're sharing every thing together with your friends. A single press and you are sharing pictures, videos and status updates. You're checking in with Places. You are telling everyone what music you're listening to. You're watching your friends' status updates, your chatting continuously, your data usage is going via the roof, but you just can't stop. Simply because that is the appeal from the Salsa - total facebook immersion. Due to the small blue button.

But then again, the Salsa is not a cheap phone. It's more expensive than mid-range, but does a good metallic case along with a big blue button justify the dosh? We don't think so. The Salsa does have plenty of great features - in addition to the build high quality, there is a moderately quick 800MHz processor humming away inside and a huge 1520mAh battery that will energy your social networking till the sun goes down, after which a bit longer.

There's a VGA front camera for video chatting, and also the delicious HTC Sense user interface with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. But there are plenty of decidedly mid-range functions right here too. We cannot ignore the relatively small 3.4 inch screen. And it is only a TFT screen, which doesn't cut it amongst the large boys of the Android globe, and also the resolution is really a lowly 320 x 480 pixels. There's only 512MB of onboard memory, that is going to prove restrictive even when you buy a microSD memory card.

So, if facebook is the feature which you use most on your mobile, you may find the HTC Salsa to become your ideal phone, even though you need to also take a look at the HTC ChaCha. But when the blue button is something you'd use only occasionally, or hardly at all, you'd be much better off selecting one of the other Android phones in this price bracket, such as the HTC Desire S, Samsung Galaxy S or Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo. Or you can save some pennies and downgrade to the HTC Wildfire S.

Samsung Galaxy W – A Brief Reviews

2012-04-15T09:00:00.005-07:00

Samsung have produced some excellent high-end Android smartphones, especially the outstanding Galaxy S2, but their mid-range offerings like the Galaxy Ace have frequently been lacklustre. The Galaxy W looks set to repair that. It's not a groundbreaking telephone by any means, but it tends to make plenty of Android goodies accessible to those who can't afford the S2.

The very first factor to note is the exterior, that is rather regular fare to get a mid-range Android device. Not inspirational, but functional, it manages to be rather slim at 11.55mm, but it's not in any way a stunner. The screen is really a decently-sized 3.7 inch LCD display. Once more, not a stunning Super AMOLED display, but a competent LCD screen with a good 480 x 800 pixel resolution.

The W runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), and with Samsung's own modifications to the user interface it's a very satisfying phone to use. Among the factors for this really is the very fast 1.4GHz processor zipping away behind the scenes, creating every thing happen almost instantaneously. Plus, with 4GB of built-in memory and as much as 32GB memory cards supported, there's little danger of operating into memory problems.

The camera is just correct for the price. With five megapixels, autofocus along with a energy LED flash it does every thing you'd anticipate a camera on a mobile telephone to do - namely, take good quality shots under a range of lighting conditions, appropriate for uploading to facebook or printing as snaps. It also records video at HD resolution. The Galaxy W ticks all of the other regular smartphone boxes. It has assisted GPS with Google Maps. It plays music and video. It connects to most other devices via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and USB 2.0. It has fast 3G data access (14.4 Mbps download) and supports quadband GSM, making it usable anywhere. An extra big 1500mAh battery provides extremely good battery life.

HTC 7 Mozart – Short Review

2012-04-15T01:26:00.000-07:00

The HTC 7 Mozart will be the third Windows® Phone OS 7 phones for us to evaluation. We've previously reviewed the HTC HD7 and also the Samsung Omnia 7. While the HD7 and also the Omnia 7 are monster phones with huge displays, the Mozart is much more like a "normal" telephone, although all 3 price concerning the same on a monthly contract. What then, will be the distinctive offering from the Mozart?

The clue, presumably, lies in its name. It is going to be a music telephone, right? Nicely, here's the factor: all the Windows 7 phones have powerful music credentials. Using the same digital music player embedded in each phone, plus comparable headphones bundled in the sales package and either 8GB or 16GB internal memory, all 3 that we've reviewed appear to provide fairly a lot the same factor. The differentiating element of the Mozart is something called SRS WOW HD™, which to become honest didn't strike us as being anything as jaw-dropping as its name suggests. In essence it's virtual surround sound with better bass, and to become fair it's a match for any other mobile phone. Just do not expect it to turn your phone into some type of home cinema!

Interestingly then, the factor that the Mozart excels at turns out to become photography. While the other Windows 7 phones have a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, the Mozart has an 8 megapixel camera with a far brighter xenon flash. It also has HD video recording.

Apart from the enhanced camera and music features, the Mozart is very a lot like the other Windows phones, except that it is much more compact. It's an excellent searching telephone in fact, with a extremely strong brushed aluminium casing giving it an air of high quality along with a strong feel.

Not everyone is giving the new operating system the thumbs up, but we believe that is unfair. It is a brand new OS with some areas which will undoubtedly be polished in future updates, and it starts off with some great core apps, although it lacks the thousands of third-party apps that you'll get with an iPhone or with Android. Perhaps this is a telephone much better suited to grown-ups.

LG Optimus Vu Review

2012-04-14T09:00:00.003-07:00

The LG Optimus Vu is an fascinating and commendable idea, taking the large screened smartphone inside a slightly different direction by getting a shorter, wider screen. However, even more than the Samsung Galaxy Note, it really is a bit too large.

The screen is 5.3 inch from corner to corner but because it uses a 4:3 aspect ratio it's considerably wider than any other telephone in the marketplace. This extra width clearly has its problems because the telephone both looks a bit odd and is inevitably challenging to handle.

A dedicated screen-capture button sits along the leading edge alongside the headphone jack, microUSB (MHL) port that's hidden behind a sliding door, and the energy button that's outlined by a funky white glowing ring. Incidentally, we'd normally lament getting these buttons on the leading edge where they're challenging to reach but given the way this phone is meant to be held and used we are able to type of forgive it.

Elsewhere round the handset you will discover a par for the course 8MP camera on the back, a 1.3MP one on the front and 32GB of storage tucked away inside.

Placing aside its size and ratio, the screen is excellent. The IPS LCD panel packs in 1024 x 768 pixels, compared to the 1024 x 600 you'd usually expect from a 6:10 ratio model, and has great viewing angles, strong colours and deep blacks.

The telephone presently runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) but a 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) upgrade will happen to be applied by the time the phone ships in a couple of months time. It has been fairly heavily customised in terms of visual tweaks but it's mostly regular Android below the hood. Because it is likely to be quite different by the time the product ships, we won't dwell on the interface too much here. The obvious extras are the tweaks for pen optimisation and some additional apps, like the inevitable note-taking one.

BlackBerry Torch 9860 Smartphone Review

2012-04-13T09:00:00.002-07:00

The Torch 9860 runs the BlackBerry 7 operating system, which we've encountered previously using the BlackBerry Bold 9900. Although the OS was designed mainly for phones with a traditional keyboard plus small screen, it functions perfectly nicely having a full touchscreen. The 9860 is equipped with an ample 1.2GHz processor and 768MB of RAM, so it responds with lightning speed as well. There's a choice of on-screen keyboards - portrait SureType®, QWERTY and multitap, and landscape QWERTY keyboards.

Emailing is no issue - this really is a BlackBerry, keep in mind? - and there's BB Messenger as well, of course. BlackBerry 7 integrates social media like facebook and twitter seamlessly into the messaging method. Internet browsing takes a leap forward on a screen of this size, compared with previous BlackBerries.

The Torch 9860 is extremely well connected. In addition to 3G HSPA operating at a speedy 14.4Mbps download, you will discover Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB and a three.5mm stereo audio jack. GPS is built in, and BlackBerry Maps is at its greatest on the big screen, even though it doesn't ever match Google Maps in user friendliness.

The Torch 9860 comes with 4GB of memory, and it can accept microSD cards up to 32GB.

You will be surprised by the camera on the 9860. With five megapixels, continuous autofocus along with a flash, it manages to do a fairly good job in most situations and is a replacement for a point-and-shoot digicam. It could also record video at 720p HD resolution and 30 frames per second. Videos are superb, and almost stutter-free, although they are not so great in low light.

Battery life is not among the Torch's strong points, which is a shame for a BlackBerry, which generally score nicely in this regard. The battery features a moderate capacity of just 1230 mAh, which really isn't enough to energy a device of this possible. It is no worse than the Android pack, but it'll require charging following a day's heavy use.

Nokia 5230 Evaluation

2012-04-12T08:00:00.002-07:00

The 5230 sits alongside the Nokia 5530 in Nokia's growing range of entry-level touchscreen smartphones. You may believe that the 5230 lies below the 5530, but that's not exactly accurate. Physically, the phone looks almost precisely like the Nokia 5800, that is the Daddy of this kind of handset. That's a great thing as well, because it indicates that you get a really big three.two inch display, with a high resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. It is a resistive touchscreen, which isn't as smooth as the capacitive kind, but it functions well enough and has the advantage of coming having a stylus. The display is great for web browsing, multimedia and merely operating with menus. It's a larger telephone than the 5530, but that's because of the bigger screen and bigger battery inside.

The 5230 is a 3G phone, unlike the 5530, and has high-speed HSDPA, offering download speeds of up to three.six Mbps. It's missing WiFi however, so if WiFi matters much more to you than 3G, select the 5530 instead. If you really require both, select the 5800. It does however have Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

The 5230 is not branded as an XpressMusic telephone, and it lacks stereo speakers. But it does have a music player, FM radio and a three.5mm audio jack. It also has the bonus function of an A-GPS receiver, with Ovi Maps supplied.

The most disappointing feature from the telephone is probably its sub-standard camera. With just 2 megapixels and no flash or autofocus, this really is suitable only for quick snaps. The video camera is much better, but with no video calling option. The poor camera is the phone's weakest feature and is most likely the biggest cause for choosing the 5530 instead.

The phone comes with a respectable 70 MB of memory and this can be expanded to 16GB by adding a microSD memory card.

We mentioned that the 5230 weighs more than the 5530. The main reason for this really is probably the elevated battery size. The 5230 enjoys excellent battery life consequently. Nonetheless, if you are looking for a touchscreen smartphone, there are not numerous within the price range, and the 5230 expands the option accessible.

A Review of Apple iPhone 4S

2012-04-11T09:19:00.005-07:00

While some had been expecting the iPhone 4S to be radically various to the iPhone four, we're actually very pleased using the new phone. The iPhone 4 design is really a classic and there was no urgent need to alter it.

Now, you can argue that despite its iconic looks, the iPhone suffers from a relatively little screen size. Certainly the Retina display has an amazingly high resolution. But only 3.5 inches? We've turn out to be used to high-end smartphones with massive 4.7 inch screens. That is almost twice the size. We would have liked to see a larger screen. However the screen size is most likely the only area exactly where the 4S can't match or better its opponents.

The 4S is powered by a dual-core A5 processor. This really is twice as fast as the processor utilized within the iPhone 4. For graphics, it's an extraordinary 7 times the speed. This means lightning fast responses from the user interface, plus the ability to record and play 1080p HD video in all its glory.

The nonetheless camera has been upgraded to eight megapixels, with new improved optics also, including a larger aperture to let in more light. It is probably one of the best cameras inside a mobile telephone, and certainly great enough to replace your digital camera, unless you're a pro.

The new version from the operating system - iOS five - brings much more than 200 improvements: some big, some little. It lets you send unlimited messages to any iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS five. A new notification centre brings together messaging, emails, reminders and buddy requests so you are able to easily keep on leading of what's new. Better Twitter integration lets you tweet straight from apps like Safari, Maps and Pictures.

iOS five also brings new security enhancements. As well as password protection and encryption, you have access to enterprise email via Microsoft Exchange.

iCloud is an additional new function. With iCloud you are able to store all your music, pictures, videos as well as other data on-line. Apple's servers will shop it and safeguard it for you, so you can access it from anyplace. iCloud also keeps your calendar, contacts, mail and reminders automatically synced. Cool.

Maybe the most intriguing of all the new gadgets is the voice-activated Siri intelligent assistant. Siri is perhaps the very first mainstream AI app, and it can comprehend all-natural language concerns and commands. The voice recognition feature may be used with other apps too, such as updating your facebook status, or dictating a reminder. Just do not speak to it inside a powerful Scottish accent!

Another new function within the iPhone 4S is Bluetooth 4.0. Bluetooth 4.0 uses less energy and has the possible to be faster. The new twin antenna also doubles HSDPA data speeds to 14.4 Mbps. The amount of onboard memory has been elevated too, with as much as 64GB available. And also the phone's available in Black or White correct from launch.

Hopefully you have got the impression that we like the iPhone 4S. It is a magnificent device. Sure, we'd have liked a larger screen, but apart from that all is good. It is much more than just a mobile pc. And top-of-the-range Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus cost about the same, even though arguably they do much more. In the event you like Apple style and the iPhone ease-of-use, we'd recommend which you stick with what you know and choose the iPhone 4S.

Apple iPhone 4 - Report Review

2012-04-10T08:52:00.006-07:00

Released on the 24th June 2010 within the UK, the iPhone four is in numerous methods the very best iPhone so far. The stainless steel body from the handset acts as an antenna and Apple claim this may help to improve reception of mobile signals. But only if you hold it the proper way, simply because in the event you location your hand over the bottom left corner of the phone, you'll see your signal drop to zero. Is that an issue? "Just steer clear of holding it in that way," Steve Jobs remarked.

Nicely, what you get is an extremely top quality device that is roughly the same height and width as the prior iPhone, but considerably slimmer, at just 9.3mm thick. It nonetheless weighs in at a chunky 137g though. It smells of high quality, of course, from the box towards the accessories, towards the device itself, but apart from the slimness it doesn't appear very different to prior generations of iPhones.

The display will be the same size as prior iPhones at three.five inches, however the new Retina display packs in double the number of pixels in every direction, giving a total of 960 x 640 pixels in total and great image quality consequently. It cannot beat the Samsung Galaxy S if you want the best display in the marketplace, but it is most likely second greatest and certainly that's great sufficient.

Apart from the screen, the greatest alter comes in the form of upgraded cameras. The still camera has been given a larger sensor so it takes much better images at night and in low light, the resolution has been elevated to five megapixels and an LED flash added. The video camera has been seriously uprated to record videos at HD resolution (720p). But perhaps the greatest change is the addition of a secondary video camera that enables video calling. Note also that you can only make video calls to other iPhone 4 customers and only on Wi-Fi. That is rather limiting.

The other primary improvement is the battery life from the phone. Although the quoted standby time will be the same, Apple say that talktime and web browsing time happen to be enhanced by around 40%.

Multi-tasking has also been enhanced so you are able to run numerous apps without slowing down the efficiency from the foreground app or draining the battery unnecessarily.

Either way, make sure to study the best new iPhone offers utilizing a site like Mobile Phone Genie prior to creating that all essential decision. You are able to discover out more info about some fantastic offers on the iPhone 4 at Phones4u. They have some really competitively priced packages available on-line.

The Nokia N8 Review

2012-04-09T06:23:00.003-07:00

Nokia are pinning their future on the new Symbian ^3 operating system. The Nokia N8 is the first device to function this operating system, and it also has a monster 12 megapixel camera and HD video recording. The N8 might be the telephone that determines whether or not Nokia retain their position as the world's number 1 phone manufacturer. Join us for a peek in to the future.

Well, let's begin using the fundamentals. The N8 is really a classic-shaped telephone with a touchscreen filling most of its facia. Not surprisingly, it manages to fit a screen that is precisely exactly the same size as the iPhone, at three.five inches diagonally. The phone feels extremely strong within the hand, with an aluminium physique and anodised scratch-proof paint. Interestingly, the battery is non-removable, because the metal body completely encloses it.

The next thing we notice is the home screen. It's various to what we've observed prior to on a Nokia, and that is since the N8 is operating Symbian^3. We notice that the capacitive touchscreen is nice and responsive and that the telephone responds quickly to our touch, in contrast towards the sluggishness of prior Symbian phones. The display flicks sharply in between landscape and portrait modes too. It assists that the N8 features a new, faster processor as well. Usually speaking, Symbian^3 feels like an evolution, instead of a revolution, which is either a good factor or perhaps a bad factor, depending on your point of view.

Nokia N8 isn't stepping backwards with regards to the camera. This really is a 12 megapixel monster with a large sensor, Carl Zeiss optics along with a xenon flash - just like a actual digital camera. Not surprisingly it takes truly excellent pictures, with great colour balance and accurate focusing. The video recording is also outstanding, with HD recording and great stereo sound quality too. A second front camera supports video calling.

The media player is superb, with quite smooth video playback, and there's the benefit of an FM radio with RDS. You may also stream content material from the internet, using the fast 3G connection giving downloads of up to 10.2 Mbps, or the Wi-Fi connection. Audio quality is excellent, either through the main speaker, or piped via Bluetooth three, the 3.5mm headphone jack or perhaps the HDMI connection directly to your home cinema system.

Battery life is surprisingly good. We say surprising, since the battery isn't that large - just 1200mAh - yet the phone can effortlessly outlast most competing smartphones, even with Wi-Fi and GPS in use.

The Nokia N8 is most likely the very best cellphone we've ever observed, and it is a definite improvement over older Symbian phones. It is an impressive piece of hardware having a stunning camera as well.
