Turkish Airlines (THY) flight attendant Selda Durmaz has lost her life on Friday night in an Istanbul hospital as a result of a mosquito bite in Nigeria, while she was on duty.

Durmaz flew with THY to Nigeria’s capital city of Lagos. When she returned back to Istanbul, she went to the hospital because of a persistent high fever.

Twice she was diagnosed with the flu, according to allegations, but the third hospital diagnosed her with malaria.

Durmaz was later given medical treatment in Istanbul at a private hospital, but she lost her life on Friday night at around 2 a.m.

Speaking to newsmen during the AU Summit in South Africa yesterday, president Buhari said he doesn't know why people are anxious about ministers, saying he's yet to appoint them because his predecessor’s transition committee submitted its report on the previous administration to him late.

“I don’t know why people are so anxious about ministers. But eventually we will have (them). But the main reason is that I have an interim committee which I agreed with the former President Jonathan that the ministers of the outgoing government should hand over their notes or their documents to this interim committee so that a position can be prepared for the new government to start from with clear records from ministers.

But the ministers knew that they were going while the technocrats, the permanent secretaries and directors and so on, would remain. If anything goes wrong they would be invited to explain, but unfortunately the outgoing government did not cooperate.

So, what the committee did was to divide itself into about five sub-committees and got a resource person that was willing to come and bring the document, and so they prepared and I got the report I think three days ago."

“I was waiting for this report because I would like to know the position of things in the government especially in terms of finance and petroleum industry. So, I am not in a hurry to get ministers.

I want to get ministers after at least I have seen the report because I don’t have to appoint a minister today and sack him the next week because this report would give me what actually happened in terms of security, and economy of the country. And since I have to have ministers from politicians and technocrats, I wouldn’t (like to) make the mistake of getting somebody, who has been involved on account of accountability." he said

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday June 15, 2015, arraigned Ebiechina Chikeluba ( aka Lisa T. Jackson) before Justice O. A Ipaye of the High Court of Lagos State, Ikeja on a 17-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence, personation, forgery and using false document. Chikeluba who met his victim on Facebook using the false identity of, Lisa T. Jackson, a United States citizen, has been making monetary demands of his victims, using varies guises.

In one such instance in March 2013, he obtained a total sum of £54,324.59 (Fifty Four Thousand, Three Hundred and Twenty Four Pounds, Fifty Nine Pence) from one K. Oaks through Western Union on the pretext that he was an American woman dealing in Gold in Nigeria and needed money to increase her capital.

The unsuspecting victim paid, having already agreed to marry the conman. When the charges were read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty. In view of the plea of the accused, prosecution counsel, Andrew Akoja asked for a trial date and prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody. The defence counsel, Chijioke Agu informed the court that he has already filed an application for bail and asked to be allowed to move his application.

However, Justice Ipaye adjourned the matter to July 20, 2015 for hearing of bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody. Chikeluba, 21, a student of Federal Science and Technical College Yaba, Lagos was arrested by the operatives of the EFCC on February 24, 2015 for allegedly swindling Oake, a UK citizen, of the sum of £54,000 (equivalent of N20m).

PDP ASKS AMBODE TO DECLARE ASSETS, MAKE FASHOLA HANDOVER NOTES PUBLIC

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has issued a 14 days ultimatum to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State to publicly declare his assets upon assuming office.

The party, which gave the governor till Monday, 29th June, also tasked the governor to make public in the media, the details of the handover notes and assets of his predecessor, Mr Raji Fashola.

In a statement by its state publicity secretary, Mr Taofik Gani, the party warned that “if the governor fails to take up this moral challenge, he will thereafter be labelled ‘Governor Pretender’ throughout his tenure.

The deliberate neglect will however compel us and other well meaning Lagosians to explore the relevance of the Freedom of Information Act (FoI Act) on the matter.”

According to the party, the necessity for the present governor of Lagos State to make public his present assets is more ignited by the huge foreign and local debts of near a trillion naira, now left behind by the immediate past governor.

The Boko Haram insurgents are at it again. About ten people including vigilantes and security agents have been reportedly killed in Potiskum multiple blasts this afternoon as vigilantes tried to apprehend a man carrying an IED (improvised explosive device) while he headed for a market in the Yobe state local government. This just comes after many people were reported killed Monday when two suicide bombers blew themselves up in attacks targeting police in the capital of Chad, a country on the frontline of the fight against Boko Haram.

The government swiftly convened an emergency meeting following the simultaneous bombings outside the police headquarters and police academy in N’Djamena.

They were the first such attacks in the capital of the north-central African nation, where security has been beefed up since Chad joined the fight against Boko Haram earlier this year

A passenger, Mr. Ovuironye Mathew Dennis, travelling onboard a 6.45am Aero flight on Monday was caught while stealing about N350, 000 from a luggage belonging to an Austrian, Novotny Anton, another passenger on the flight.

Dennis, 31 with 1.65 height as captured in his temporary driver’s license and seating on flight seat No. 23C was spotted by a member of the airline’s cabin crew when he removed the Austrian’s bag from the cockpit as if he was changing his seat.

Our correspondent, who was on onboard the flight, said the suspect was also caught with a wrap of marijuana.

The suspect had removed the bag from the cockpit where the Austrian sat, took it to his own seat, giving impression that he was changing his seat and stole a sum of N150, 000 and 500 Euros belonging to the Austrian.

But he ran out of luck when a female cabin crew raised alarm, asked him to remain seated while he was trying to return the bag to the cockpit before the Austrian could suspect any foul play.

“While trying to return the bag I asked him to seat down. But he became uncomfortable before the plane landed and the white man raised alarm that he couldn't find his bag,” she said.

Immediately the plane landed at the Abuja airport, the Austrian couldn't find his bag and raised alarm, but the cabin crew member told him to check the bag with Dennis.

After the suspect was stripped Unclad, he told other angry passengers that he mistakenly took the bag in question for his own.

The Austrian later discovered that the sum of N150, 000 and 500 Euros had been taken from the bag.

Other passengers immediately descended on the thieving Dennis.

The money was later found on him alongside a wrap of marijuana.

The suspect told The Nation that he stole the money to take care of his ailing mother.

Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday stated that corruption in Nigeria’s power sector by past administrations was responsible for epileptic power supply in the country.

Osinbajo lamented that despite billions of dollars invested in power generation and distribution over the years by the government, businesses and Nigerians still suffer.

The Vice-President while delivering the 10th Anniversary Lecture of Crescent University, Abeokuta tagged “The Nigerian Economy and the Future”, called for total overhaul in the sector in terms of generation and distribution.
The VP said: “Though Nigeria needs more than 10,000MW to stabilise economic growth, the present capacity of power transmission lines cannot distribute more than 5,000 MW since the improvement works on transmission lines have been stagnant over years and should be improved upon if Nigeria must achieve tangible output from the sector”.

“Unfaithful to awards of contract and execution of contracts being awarded are the major challenges. Several contracts in that regards have been awarded several years back, but have not been completed.

“What is being produced now is less than 3,000 MW. Our transmission grid today can only transmit 5,000 MW and we need to improve on transmission capacity to transmit enough power needed to stabilise economy. That is why the private investors have to increase capital investment in power sector.”

Osinbajo added that some tough decisions be taken to put the country back on the path of genuine growth and development in line with the All Progressives Congress, APC, programmes.
He assured that President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration would work hard to make Nigeria’s economy strong globally.

The Presidency has explained why President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to unveil his ministerial nominees.

It was widely reported that shortly before Buhari mounted the number one seat on May 29, he had reportedly rejected plans by governors of the All Progressives Congress to submit ministerial nominees to him.

Clearing the air on the controversy, a Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, called on Nigerians to give the new president time.

Speaking with SarahaTV, Shehu recalled that after the 2011 elections, many South-West governors took several months to form their governments.

He said, “The President did say he would hit the ground running, but he has not been given the chance to hit the ground running because the administration that he succeeded — the Jonathan administration — did not deliver the handover notes until two or three days to the inauguration, meaning that these handover notes were submitted at a time when everyone had been consumed by (inauguration) activities.

“Unfortunately, there was no time to look at them until after the President had been inaugurated. The President was left in the dark. He had to understand what the situation was and what was on the ground. That was why he set up a different transition committee. It was only this week that the committee, led by Dr. Ahmed Joga, scrutinised the handover notes and handed over the report to him (Buhari).

“To be fair to him, he would have hit the ground running if the previous government had handed over the notes early. However, the Jonathan government did not even permit any minister to interact in any way with the Buhari Transition Committee. Evidently, we had our hands tied behind our backs until we took over. Thus, there is nothing shady about it.”

Shehu explained that the ministerial appointments was yet to be made because the committee needed to conclude its findings on 800-page report which was presented to Buhari on Friday.

Shehu frowned on recent reports on why the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, was prevented from attending Buhari’s meeting with the Security Adviser on the orders of the President.

In his response, the SSA said, “That is the creation of someone who just wanted to write something. It was on the same day he travelled to Sudan to represent the President, the government and the people of Nigeria at the inauguration of the president of that country.

“He couldn’t have been present in two places at the same time. Osinbajo is the Vice-President of Nigeria. In the absence of the President, he is the President. So, there cannot be dark corners into which he will not be allowed. It is not true,” he added.

BOKO HARAM: BUHARI ORDERS RELEASE OF $21M TO MNJTF

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate release of $21 million to the Multi-National Joint Task Force’s (MNJTF), within one week to tackle the menace of Boko Haram.

The amount is part of Nigeria’s $100 million pledge to the Force.

Buhari said this when he chaired ‎the Peace and Security Committee (PSC) of the 25th African Union Summit in Johannesburg at the weekend.

He was accompanied by Governors Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Dr. Samuel Ortom (Benue) and former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Abdulrahman Dambazau.

The Extra-Ordinary Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Lake Chad Basin Commission and Benin, had last week approved the sum of $30 million for the installation and equipping of the MNJTF.

Buhari, at the summit, commended the cooperation of Nigeria’s neighbours –Chad and Cameroon in tackling Boko Haram.

He said, “The boko haram insurgency has extended it’s reached to Nigeria’s neighbours but is not necessarily limited to these immediate countries as terrorism is a global phenomenon with linkages across the globe.

Given this dimension of global terror it requires to act according in brotherhood and partnership to fight our common goals against agents of evil.

“I’m pleased to note that Cameroon, Chad, Niger, are demonstrating this secret, they are fighting alongside Nigeria under the umbrella of Multinational Joint Task Force to defeat Boko Haram.

“In this regard, the member countries Lake Chad Basin Commission and Benin, met recently where far reaching decisions were taken to immediately put into operations the Multinational Joint Task Force.

“To this end, the summit approved the immediate provision of $30 million for the Multinational Joint Task Force.

“Consequently out of the pledge of $100 million which Nigeria made to Multinational Joint Task Force, I have directed that $21 million be released within the next one week”.

President Buhari called on members of the Peace and Security Committee to put into proper context during the course of deliberations, the situations in South Sudan, Burkina Faso, Mali, Libya, Central Africa Republic, South Sudan, and more recently in Burundi.

President Buhari, recalled that the AU had in 2013 during the 50th anniversary celebration of the union, African leaders had committed themselves to the objective of silencing the local guns in Africa by 2020.

“With just five years remaining, the prospect of realizing this objectives looks doubtful within individual countries and the continent as a whole,” Buhari said.

“In particular, we are witnesses to the rampant destruction of homes, roads, communications lines, vital infrastructures and displacement of persons not to mention terrible loss of lives.

“This is true I must add of the north east of Nigeria where we are dealing with the scourge of boko haram”.

Urging Africa leaders to act decisively, Buhari said, “Today’s meeting of PSC, which is to discuss the situations of South Sudan and Burundi, requires us to put these situations in proper context. The people of these countries are suffering while their political leaders are bickering among themselves.

“I believe that is incumbent upon us as leaders to always place the interest of our countries above narrow and personal interest.

“It is therefore my expectations that at the end of this summit, the PSC will come out with a united message to call on all parties to act in the interest of their people and the entire continent.

“We must change the face of Africa, we must give hope to the hopeless. The time to do so is now as we look forward to the much await 20F3 to deliver a continent that is at peace with itself, prosperous, a global partner and a democratic show case.”

Rumors of the actor’s alleged demise gained traction on Friday after a ‘R.I.P. Jackie Chan’ Facebook page attracted nearly one million of ‘likes’. Those who read the ‘About’ page were given a believable account of the actor’s passing:

“At about 11 a.m. ET on Friday (June 12, 2015), our beloved actor Jackie Chan passed away. Jackie Chan was born on April 7, 1954 in Hong Kong. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”
Hundreds of fans immediately started writing their messages of condolence on the Facebook page, expressing their sadness that the talented 61-year-old actor was dead. And as usual, Twittersphere was frenzied over the death hoax.

Where as some trusting fans believed the post, others were immediately skeptical of the report, perhaps learning their lesson from the huge amount of fake death reports emerging about celebrities over recent months. Some pointed out that the news had not been carried on any major network, indicating that it was a fake report, as the death of an actor of Jackie Chan's stature would be major news across networks.

A recent poll conducted for the Celebrity Post shows that a large majority (74%) of respondents think those Jackie Chan death rumors are not funny anymore.

Caitlyn Jenner has nothing but love for Kris Jenner.

In what's only her 10th tweet ever, Caitlyn is speaking out about her ex and their 25 years together.

"Reading the VF article reminded me of the love & good times Kris & I shared for so many years," she wrote on Friday afternoon. "Wouldn¹t trade that time for anything!"

The article in question painted a somewhat confusing portrait of their relationship, as the two didn't quite agree on how much Kris knew about her then-husband's transition.

"When I met Bruce, he told me that he had done hormones back in the early '80s," Kris told Vanity Fair. "This was a conversation that took place in the early '90s. So, what he was telling me happened a decade earlier, and he never really explained it. There wasn't a gender issue. Nobody mentioned a gender issue."

Knowles’ attorney writes asking the court to listen to the man’s song and compare it to hers and states that if anyone was to listen to both they would find the two works don’t share any, “melodic content and there is no meaningful similarity in pitch series, rhythm or rhythmic patterns, melodic development or structure”

Also, Knowles’ attorney states, “the two songs are distinct from a thematic perspective” with the man’s song describing the narrator’s romantic and sexual feelings towards a new lover. His song features lyrics talking about “being horny” and “wanting to love every inch of the lover’s body,” while her song is a “celebration of love and life, emphasizing the importance of living in the present with a loved one ‘before our time has run out.’”

Knowles is asking the court to dismiss the $7 million dollar lawsuit and that the background singer be awarded nothing because her song was officially co-written and co-produced by Ryan Tedder, Terius ‘The Dream’ Nash, and Beyonce.

Toke Makinwa‘s husband, Maje Ayida, has reportedly impregnated his ex-girlfriend,Anita Solomon.

According to a report by SDK, Ayida had been dating Solomon for the past 8 years, while he was also dating Makinwa.
