The LSE have notified us that there will be very limited access to Sconul Access visitors in their exam period this year. Please bear this in mind if you have plans to visit in this period. Full message from the LSE follows:

“Please note there will be restricted access to the LSE Library during our examination period from Monday 2 April to Wednesday 6 June 2012.

Academic staff and research degree students (MPhil, PhD) will still be eligible to use the Library through our existing reciprocal schemes (University of London, SCONUL Access and M25). SCONUL Access and M25 members will need to produce access cards for these schemes when applying for membership. In a change from last year, we have also had to extend the restrictions to undergraduates and taught masters students (University of London & SCONUL Access), as the number of registrations we received from these groups were extremely high in the previous year.

In special cases visitors affected by the restrictions may be able to make a request for a day’s access (no further access will be provided) if they can show they have a genuine need to use our collections during the restricted access period, that cannot be satisfied at a later date.

All requests will need to be made through the online form which will be made available on our web pages at this time.

Further details are available on our web pages at http://www2.lse.ac.uk/library/enquiriesandfeedback/admissions/home.aspx.

Researching a company or sector for an assignment or for a job application? We have a number of resources that give very detailed company information. One of these is FAME. Business students, particularly those studying accounting may have used this already but there may be useful information for other students. For example you can use FAME to get a list of companies to send off your CV.

This includes information on every company registered at Company House, whether active or not, plus Irish companies. The largest companies include 10 years worth of data. Financial data includes the balance sheet, profit and loss account, cash flow and ratios. You can find lists of subsidiaries and ownership and also lists of directors. You can search by sector and postcode to get a mailing list of companies.

FAME stands for Financial Analysis Made Easy. There are lots of analytical tools you can use and you can produce charts and tables to incorporate into you work. Examples are peer analysis, segmentation and aggregation.

FAME is available under Database List in iCat by going to F or under Busines and Law -> Company Information.
