New iPhone OS on an old iPhone 3G

Users of older iPhones and iPod touches don't get the best features of iOS 4, the new iPhone operating system. But we do get a few new goodies.

The big new feature of iOS 4 is multitasking -- the ability to run selected applications in the background while doing other things in the foreground.

But don't get too excited, my fellow iPhone 3G users. We don't get multitasking. The processor in the 3G just isn't powerful enough. Same thing for the iPod touch G2, which is pretty much the same device as the iPhone 3G, without the phone parts.

However, users of the iPhone 3G and iPod touch G2 aren't entirely abandoned. We do get a few of the good new features in iOS 4.

The biggest new feature for us: Icon folders, to help tidy up your home screens. If you have dozens of apps for your iPhone, it can be hard to find a specific one. Icon folders make it easier. Just press an icon and hold it until all the icons on the screen start to wiggle, then drag one icon onto another. When you lift your finger, the two icons will have merged into a single, black square the size of one of the original icons, with the two icons in miniature inside. It looks like this:

Tap one of the folders, and it expands like this, giving you access to all the apps inside.

The second major feature of iOS 4 that's relevant to the iPhone 3G is a universal inbox for the Mail app. Instead of having separate inboxes for each of your e-mail accounts, you can view all your e-mail for all accounts in a single inbox. And messages are threaded into separate conversations.

Mail users can also connect to multiple ActiveSync accounts. That means you can sync to your Microsoft Exchange server at work and your Gmail server for personal mail. Nice!

Other iOS 4 features available to iPhone 3G users: Spell-check, character counts in composing text messages, the ability to show and hide individual calendars, and organizing photos by Events, Faces, and Places (but you have to set that up on iPhoto 09 on your desktop),

Other iOS 4 features not available to iPhone 3G users: Bluetooth keyboard support, custom wallpapers, FaceTime video calling.

Here's a rundown of iOS update compatibility, for all iOS devices:

- The original iPhone and iPod touch G1 (2007) don't get the update at all -- they're not compatible.

- The iPhone 3G and iPod touch G2 (2008) get the update, but don't get multitasking, custom wallpaper, and Bluetooth keyboard support.

- The iPhone 3GS and iPod touch G3 (2009) get all the features except those requiring iPhone 4 hardware, mainly FaceTime video chat.

- The iPhone 4, which ships in a few days, gets all the new features of course.

- The iPad gets the update in the fall.

I upgraded my trusty iPhone 3G to the new iOS as soon as it became available yesterday. I was one of the people who experienced problems. The process took a long time, three hours. I just let it run during that time, and busied myself with other things. Like, y'know, work.

I've tried out most of my major applications, and they all work fine, except one: Push Gmail, a $1.99 Gmail client, which now crashes as soon as I try to open an e-mail message. No big deal, I've just gone back to using the iPhone's Mail app.

As for performance: There doesn't seem to be any net change over iOS 3.x. My faithful iPhone 3G doesn't seem to run any faster under iOS 4, but it doesn't seem to run any slower either.

All in all, the iOS upgrade is no big deal for iPhone 3G users. But it does add a couple of nice features to my trusty iPhone 3G.

I'm looking forward to getting the iPhone 4; it's due to be delivered in about two weeks.

By the way, I've noticed when I start referring to devices as "trusty" and "faithful," it means the thing has become old and decrepit and I'm about to replace it, sticking the old device in the back of a closet for eventual recycling.

Don't tell my iPhone 3G about my plans, though. I haven't told it it's being replaced. I've told it that I'm going to send it to live on a farm where it can play with all the other phones all day.

MANILA, Philippines - An alleged sex video of murdered actor Ramgen Revilla and his girlfriend, Janelle Manahan, has leaked online, sparking outrage from the lone witness in Ramgen's murder.

The video, which spread via Facebook and Twitter, is authentic, according to Manahan's lawyer, Argee Guevarra. He said Manahan was shocked and cried after learning that the video was spreading virally.

“This video represents the second assassination of Ramgen and second frustrated murder of Janelle orchestrated and masterminded by the Bautista household,” Guevarra said in a Philippine Star report.

The short video clip of one minute and thirty seven seconds shows the couple in the shower but more importantly who leaked it? On the positive side looks like people on the web have a bit of respect for the dead and the video has been removed from most websites. If there are other websites out there and you want to run interference I would advise writing about the video online.

1. Obtain an unlock code. T-Mobile users can wait three months from the date their contract starts and then request a free unlock code from T-Mobile. If you're not a T-Mobile customer or wish to unlock your phone immediately, purchase an unlock code online. You'll need your IMEI number, which you can find by going to Settings > About Phone > Status.

2. Turn off your Android phone and remove the back cover and battery. Look for the SIM card, and remove the one that's currently in your phone. Set it aside. Insert the new SIM card and replace the battery and back cover. Turn your phone back on.

3. When the phone boots up, it will display a screen asking for an unlock code for the new SIM. Enter the unlock code when prompted. Your phone is now unlocked.

As name suggested Windows 8 Transformation Pack now comes with Windows 8 new features such as Metro Desktop, Auto colorization and User Tile on taskbar. I also configured program to set user tile image matching to current user picture and optimize default tiles in Metro desktop for 1024x768 resolution. These features require .NET Framework 4.0 to be installed so if you're using Windows XP, make sure you have it installed first.

One click does it all
Say goodbye to lenghy dialogs of information and configuration. After years of long development since Longhorn Transformation Pack. I finally came to realization of what really matters with user interactions. All you need to do is simply running the program and choose features you want and install in one dialog. If you want to change something back later, you can just run the same program again and change anything you want without trouble. Welcome Center is no longer needed with this method.

Amazing performance and flexibility for features customization
Back then people need to wait for 10-30 minutes to complete whole installation and having hard time customizing features later. Now we solve them all with simpler ways to use it. You can choose to enable or disable system files transformation at anytime you want. Program will keep resources and backup files ready to switch back and forth. Actually, there're lots more to brag from backend side but it doesn't matter. As long as you guys can enjoy this at ease, that should be OK. I guess I finally can lay down for a while enjoying my birthday today and then I can start thinking about what to do with Lion Transformation Pack later after this. It should be easier and faster after finishing this ones so I hope I can release it soon.

Update: 26/08/2011

I've just upload a proper build to fix following the issues.

1. System files transformation failure in non-English OS (hexpatcher dialog stuff and improper/none changes in system resources).
2. Errors related to sound files in Windows\Media for Windows Vista (Though it worked fine in testing Vista Home Premium x86/x64 but I've refined for better method).

If you don't have any problems with stated fixes, you don't need to reinstall it. But regardless of your result, I suggest to keep this updated build in hand just in case.

Android Apps Come to Google TV With Software Release

With the new tools, developers can test their existing mobile or tablet Android applications in a big-screen environment, eventually porting them over to run on Google TV. It’s also possible to create new Android applications made specifically for Google TV.

“With the add-on you can test your apps to determine if they would be a good fit for TV and whether any tweaks are required,” wrote Google TV product manager Ambarish Kenghe in a blog post.

Apps made specifically to interact with mobile and tablet interfaces, however, won’t run on the Google TV interface. For instance, if an application requires touchscreen interaction, a Google TV user won’t be able to find the app on the Android Market.

Google’s “smart TV” platform received much attention and critical praise after debuting it at the I/O developer conference last year. But after major networks began to block online versions of their content to Google TV set top boxes right around the time of Google TV’s launch, the product failed to catch on widely with consumers. So much so that Logitech, one of the largest manufacturers of Google TV set top boxes, reported “slightly negative” revenues for its Revue Google TV units, as product returns outpaced sales in the second quarter.

Still, Google has a chance to bolster the Google TV platform’s following by cross-breeding it with Android, a platform with a far stronger fan base.

Google TV devices will be Android compatible after an upcoming Android OS update to version 3.0 (Honeycomb).

It sports a faster processor (1GHz, rather than 800MHz), a longer lasting battery (1700mAh, up from 1540mAh) and the latest iteration of Android, Gingerbread 2.3. Everything else is pretty much the same, including the 5 megpixel camera with flash, the 2 gig memory and the microSD card slot.

The Motorola Defy+ is IP67 certified, which means it is hermetically sealed against dust or sand. You can even immerse it in 3 feet of water. Suddenly those late-night drunk bathroom breaks, which have taken the lives of countless phones, aren’t so risky. But perhaps the best thing about the Defy + is it doesn’t look like a rubbery waterproof toy.

It’s headed first to Germany, where customers can buy it beginning this month for 269 euros, or about $389, without a contract. Look for it in other European countries, Asia and Latin America soon. No word on when it comes to North America.

Much like other waterproof gadgets, you can’t go diving with it, but why would you want to? But if you’re thrown into the shallow end of the pool or drop it in the toilet, it should be OK.

Snow Transformation Pack 1.5 Released! Time for change

Finally, it's time for the second release of Snow Transformation Pack. Since this release is mainly for fixing bugs I found so people who enjoy first release without problem may not find it exciting. But for people who couldn't get it working right, this version should be a lot better than the first ones. You can now use application like jDownloader and install in non-English edtion OS without trouble. Dock is now RocketDock with older but more stable StackDocklet. I still don't know what really caused no sound issue so let's hope it got fixed right among things I did in this release.

Email chain letter claims phone manufacturer Ericsson will give away free laptop computers to those who forward the message to at least eight people.

The Ericsson Company is distributing free computer Lap-tops in an attempt to match Nokia that has already done so.

Ericsson hopes to increase its popularity this way. For this reason, they are giving away the new WAP laptops. All you need to do to qualify is to send this mail to 8 people you know. Within 2 weeks, you will receive Ericsson T18. But if you can send it to 20 people or more, you will receive Ericsson R320.

Analysis: Here's a chain letter that doesn't even make sense on the face of it. To quote the main premise as stated in the version circulating since 2007:

The Ericsson Company is distributing free computer laptops in an attempt to match Nokia that has already done so.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but Nokia has never distributed free laptop computers to email forwarders. Nor are they ever likely to do so. Nor is Sony Ericsson.

All you need to do to qualify is to send this mail to 8 people you know. Within 2 weeks, you will receive Ericsson T18.

Sounds easy enough and tempting, too, but get this: the Ericsson T18 is a cell phone, not a computer. Moreover, it's a discontinued model. They don't sell it anymore!

But if you can send it to 20 people or more, you will receive Ericsson R320.

Again, the Ericsson R320 is a cell phone, not a computer. And discontinued, to boot!

What gives? The email above is slightly revised version of a nine-year-old hoax promising free phones to frequent forwarders. Though the phrase "computer laptops" has been substituted in the newer variant to reel in more suckers, evidently the anonymous prankster who revised the original couldn't be bothered to change the model numbers of the supposed promotional items.

The email address to which copies of the forwarded message are supposed to be sent, anna.swelung@ericsson.com, is a corruption of the address specified in the 2000 version of the hoax (anna.swelund@ericsson.com), which, of course, was never valid in the first place.

2009 update: On May 12, 2009 Sony Ericsson released the following statement in response to a new version of the hoax:

Hoax Competition Email

Sony Ericsson has been made aware of an online email campaign claiming that Ericsson will give away a free laptop computer to users who forward the promotional information. The same campaign includes a photograph of the Sony Ericsson logo and mentions an Ericsson contact name and email number.

Sony Ericsson confirms that this email campaign is a hoax. In addition, Sony Ericsson confirms that the Ericsson contact name does not exist.

All competitions and promotions involving Sony Ericsson are run through official channels such as Sony Ericsson’s website or Sony Ericsson’s partners’ websites. Please be wary of any competition or promotion that appears to come from outside of Sony Ericsson or Sony Ericsson’s partners official channels. Examples of these include via spam emails or SMS.

Please do not reply to or forward the email if you receive it.

Dialog box keyboard commands
• TAB: Move to the next control in the dialog box
• SHIFT+TAB: Move to the previous control in the dialog box
• SPACEBAR: If the current control is a button, this clicks the button. If the current control is a check box, this toggles the check box. If the current control is an option, this selects the option.
• ENTER: Equivalent to clicking the selected button (the button with the outline)

Recover Hidden Folder Caused by Virus (How?)

Experience this problem? Caused by niaw virus... (here's the solution)!

1.(Go to Start --> Run, then type Regedit
2. Navigate to the registry folder
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHO WALL
3. Find a key called CheckedValue.
4. Double Click CheckedValue key and modify it to 1.
This is to show all the hidden files.)

And then do this method

And also use repairing cd for registry

Before that make sure that u have updated virus
definiton and run a safe mode scan also. other wise it
will again hide.
