In simple, Big Data is used to mean a massive volume of both structured and unstructured data that is so large it is difficult to process using traditional database and software techniques. In most enterprise scenarios the volume of data is too big or it moves too fast or it exceeds current processing capacity.

An example of big data might be petabytes (1,024 terabytes) or exabytes (1,024 petabytes) of data consisting of billions to trillions of records of millions of people—all from different sources (e.g. Web, sales, customer contact centre, social media, mobile data and so on).

Concept of Bigdata : 3Vs

3Vs (volume, variety and velocity) are three defining properties or dimensions of big data. Volume refers to the amount of data, variety refers to the number of types of data and velocity refers to the speed of data processing.

Applications of Big Data:

· Big Data for financial services: Credit card companies, retail banks, private wealth management advisories, insurance firms, venture funds, and institutional investment banks use big data for their financial services. The common problem among them all is the massive amounts of multi-structured data living in multiple disparate systems which can be solved by big data. Thus big data is used in a number of ways like:

· Customer analytics

· Compliance analytics

· Fraud analytics

· Operational analytics

· Big Data in communications: Gaining new subscribers, retaining customers, and expanding within current subscriber bases are top priorities for telecommunication service providers. The solutions to these challenges lie in the ability to combine and analyze the masses of customer-generated data and machine-generated data that is being created every day.

· Big Data for Retail: Brick and Mortar or an online e-tailer, the answer to staying the game and being competitive is understanding the customer better to serve them. This requires the ability to analyze all the disparate data sources that companies deal with every day, including the weblogs, customer transaction data, social media, store-branded credit card data, and loyalty program data.

Applications of Data Analysis:

· Healthcare: The main challenge for hospitals with cost pressures tightens is to treat as many patients as they can efficiently, keeping in mind the improvement of the quality of care. Instrument and machine data is being used increasingly to track as well as optimize patient flow, treatment, and equipment used in the hospitals. It is estimated that there will be a 1% efficiency gain that could yield more than $63 billion in the global healthcare savings.

· Travel: Data analytics is able to optimize the buying experience through the mobile/ weblog and the social media data analysis. Travel sights can gain insights into the customer’s desires and preferences. Products can be up-sold by correlating the current sales to the subsequent browsing increase browse-to-buy conversions via customized packages and offers. Personalized travel recommendations can also be delivered by data analytics based on social media data.

· Gaming: Data Analytics helps in collecting data to optimize and spend within as well as across games. Game companies gain insight into the dislikes, the relationships, and the likes of the users.

· Energy Management: Most firms are using data analytics for energy management, including smart-grid management, energy optimization, energy distribution, and building automation in utility companies. The application here is centered on the controlling and monitoring of network devices, dispatch crews, and manage service outages. Utilities are given the ability to integrate millions of data points in the network performance and lets the engineers use the analytics to monitor the network

Prerequisites:

· Processor - 2 GHz or faster

· Memory - 2 GB RAM or greater

· Available Disk Space - 40 GB or greater

· Display - XGA (1024x768) monitor

· Operating System – Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2

Instructions:

1. Install Windows Server 2012 or WS 2012 R2 with above hardware requirement and Server Manager Shows as below

2. Choose Manage and Add Roles and Features

3. Click Next on First Screen for setting new DNS role

4. Choose Role-Based-Installation and Click Next

5. Select the Destination Server

6. Select DNS and Add the Feature and Click Next

6. Click Next in the Screen

7. Click Install

For DNS configuration, the reboot is not necessary. If there is any removal of Service then reboot is necessary.

After Installation Completes Close the screen

8. In Server Manager, Click Tools and Choose DNS

9. Right Click on the DNS and Choose Properties

10. Workaround the properties and Choose the DNS required.

11. Go to Monitoring Tab and Click Simple Query against this DNS Server and Test whether it is PASS or FAIL.

How to setup Windows Active Directory and DNS server ?

Windows Active Directory is a directory service provided by Microsoft . Usually you will find users account information, credentials, groups, printers and other peripherals, etc. The largest part of the Active Directory is a Domain and the smallest an Object.

Please find below the steps to create your own AD (Active Directory) and DNS (Domain Name System) Server :

Install Windows Server (we are using windows 2008 R2 for this example)

Click Check box to accept the license terms

Allocate a storage space in your hard disk for windows to install

Grab a Coffee while windows install the OS

Setup the root password

Once windows server is successfully installed open the Server manager Tab

Click on Roles

We need to add New Roles

Select Active directory domain services

You will be prompted to configure the DNS client configuration before you proceed

Manually assign the IP address and DNS server address details

Now we need to create a New domain and a forest

Please select windows server 2003 so that our setup will be backward compatible up to windows 2003

Setup a password

Click reboot on completion(windows needs to start for the changes to take effect)

After restarting please check for dns resolution- if there is issue please follow the below steps

Make sure you assign the right DNS server address(it may auto assign loopback address which we need to change manually)

Still if you face DNS resolution issue please checkbox Update associated pointer (PTR) record

As we can see ns look up has resolved the DNS query successfully

How to Configure after XenDesktop Image deploy and Virtual Desktop Agent Software Installation

Objective

This article describes how to configure XenCenter and Virtual Desktop Agent Software Installation.

Prerequisites for a Desktop Image Virtual Machine suitable for XenDesktop

This demonstration uses a XenServer host with sufficient memory and CPU resources available to host a Windows 7 Virtual Machine.

Recommended configuration is - 2 Virtual CPUs and 2048 MB of Memory.

A Workstation running XenCenter is required to manage the creation of the Virtual Machine.

Configuration and Virtual Desktop Agent Software Installation

In XenCenter, select Master Image VM.
In the DVD Drive1 area for the virtual machine, select xs-tools.iso to mount the XenServer Tools media.
Connect and authenticate to the machine being used for the master image.
Open My Computer and navigate to the DVD-ROM.
Right-click the XenServer Tools media and select Open AutoPlay.
Select Run xensetup.exe from the AutoPlay prompt.
Accept the term of the License Agreement by selecting I accept the terms in the License Agreement and clicking Next.
Select the path to install XenServer Tools. The default being C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\XenTools.
After specifying the installation location, click Install to begin the process of installing XenServer Tools.
Allow the installation program to proceed to completion.
When the installation has completed, select Reboot now and click Finish.

Note: The Windows 7 workstation automatically reboots upon clicking Finish. Save any unsaved work prior to completing this step.
Once the client virtual machine has fully restarted, in XenCenter, select the master image virtual machine.
In the DVD Drive1, locate and specific the file containing XenDesktop 5 media.
Connect and authenticate to the machine being used for the master image.
Open My Computer and navigate to the DVD-ROM.
Right-click the XenDesktop media and select Open AutoPlay.
Select Run AutoSelect.exe from the AutoPlay prompt.
Select Install Virtual Desktop Agent.

Note: Ensure that the user account being used to install the XenDesktop Virtual Desktop Agent has elevated privileges.
Select Advanced Install at the screen to select the type of installation.

Note: In this enterprise scenario, all applications are installed locally. Therefore, XenApp Application Delivery plug-ins is not required.
Clear the box marked Support for XenApp Application Delivery.
Verify that the installation location for the Virtual Desktop Agent is appropriate for the environment. The default is C:\Program Files\Citrix.
Once the installation location is verified, click Next to begin the Virtual Desktop Agent installation.

Note: In this enterprise scenario, the Desktop Controllers are configured for the Virtual Desktop Agent. This can be done at a later stage by using Group Policy or the setup wizard.

Note: If using XenDesktop 5.6:
Select Virtual Desktop Agent or Virtual Desktop Agent for HDX 3D Pro and click Next.
Select if you want to install the Citrix Receiver and click Next.
Select Yes if you want to enable personal vDisk and click Next.
Select Manually enter controller location(s).
In the input box, specify the fully qualified domain name (such as controller1.domain.com) of the Desktop Controllers configured earlier in this guide. If there are multiple controllers, enter each controller’s fully qualified domain name separated by a space.
Click Check to allow the setup wizard to validate the network presence of the specified controllers. This option does not validate whether the Fully Qualified Domain Name provided is actually a controller, so ensure that the actual Desktop Controllers is specified and not another server.
Once the Desktop Controllers are verified, click Next to proceed to the next step in the Virtual Desktop Agent installation.
Validate all settings for the Virtual Desktop Agent configuration. Default settings have the following selected (enabled):
XenDesktop Controller Communications
Optimze XenDesktop Performance
User Desktop Shadowing
Real Time Monitoring

Note: These settings create various exceptions for ports in Windows Firewall. Consult with the Desktop Security team to ensure that settings comply with enterprise standards. Refer to the Knowledge Center article CTX126969 – Virtual Desktop Agent Configuration for more information regarding these settings.
Once all settings have been validated, click Next to proceed to installation Summary validation for the XenDesktop Virtual Desktop Agent.

Note: If using XenDesktop 5.6:
Once all settings have been validated, click Next to proceed to installation Summary validation for the XenDesktop Virtual Desktop Agent.
Review the installation Summary for accuracy of Install Location and Components.
If the Summary is correct, click Install to proceed with the installation.

Note: If using XenDesktop 5.6:

Allow the wizard to install components and perform Post Install validation.
Upon successful completion of the wizard, a screen appears showing which components were installed. Validate that the XenDesktop Virtual Desktop Agent is presented.
Select Restart Machine (required to complete install) and click Close to end the installation of the XenDesktop Virtual Desktop Agent.

Note: The Windows 7 workstation automatically restarts upon clicking Close. Ensure that any unsaved work is saved prior to clicking Close.

This article describes how to create a XenDesktop desktop image.

Creating a Desktop Image Virtual Machine

From a management workstation, start XenCenter and connect to an environment for hosting the pooled desktop virtual machine.
Select the XenServer host to contain the pooled image virtual machine.

Right-click and select New VM.
On the Select a VM template screen, scroll through the selections and choose Windows 7 (64-bit).

Note: The selection in this step varies depending on the operating system for the virtual desktops required by the enterprise.
Click Next to continue.
Type a Name and Description for the master image virtual machine.
Click Next to continue.
Specify the operating system media location.
For the purposes of this guide, select the button labeled Install from ISO library or DVD drive:
Specify the ISO or media file containing the operating system installation files.
Click Next to continue.
Select Place the VM on this server.
Choose the XenServer to host the virtual machine.
Click Next to continue.
Specify the desired Number of vCPU (virtual CPU) and Memory resources to allocate to this virtual machine.
Click Next to continue.
Select the desired storage location for this virtual machine.
Click Next to continue.
Configure the virtual network interfaces per specific enterprise standards.
Click Next to continue.
Review the summary screen to ensure accuracy of all settings.
Ensure that the checkbox marked Start the new VM automatically is selected.
Once all settings have been validated, click Finish to allow XenServer to create the virtual machine.
In XenCenter, select the XenServer machine specified to host the master image virtual machine.
Navigate to the Logs tab to monitor the progress of the virtual machine creation.
Ensure to select Start the new VM automatically.
Once all settings have been validated, click Finish to allow XenServer to create the virtual machine.
If no errors occur during virtual machine creation, the new virtual machine is viewable in the navigation tree in XenCenter.
Select the new virtual machine and navigate to the Console tab.
Proceed with the installation of the operating system and all required software.

How To Use the AWK in Linux?

What is AWK?

AWK is an interpreted programming language. It is very powerful and specially designed for text processing. Its name is derived from the family names of its authors − Alfred Aho, Peter Weinberger, and Brian Kernighan.

The version of AWK that GNU/Linux distributes is written and maintained by the Free Software Foundation (FSF); it is often referred to as GNU AWK.

Uses of AWK:

Text processing
Producing formatted text reports
Performing arithmetic operations
Performing string operations, and many more

How To Use the AWK in Linux?

Awk uses some internal variables to assign certain pieces of information as it processes a file.

The internal variables that awk uses are:

FILENAME: References the current input file.

FNR: References the number of the current record relative to the current input file. For instance, if you have two input files, this would tell you the record number of each file instead of as a total.

FS: The current field separator used to denote each field in a record. By default, this is set to whitespace.

NF: The number of fields in the current record.

NR: The number of the current record.

OFS: The field separator for the outputted data. By default, this is set to whitespace.

ORS: The record separator for the outputted data. By default, this is a newline character.

RS: The record separator used to distinguish separate records in the input file. By default, this is a newline character.

We can change the values of these variables at will to match the needs of our files. Usually we do this during the initialization phase of our awk processing.

Using Variables

With awk, you can process text files. Awk assigns some variables for each data field found:

$0 for the whole line.
$1 for the first field.
$2 for the second field.
$n for the nth field.
The whitespace character like space or tab is the default separator between fields in awk.

This makes our expanded syntax look something like this:

awk 'BEGIN { action; }

/search/ { action; }

END { action; }' input_file

The BEGIN and END keywords are actually just specific sets of conditions just like the search parameters. They match before and after the document has been processed.

This means that we can change some of the internal variables in the BEGIN section.

Use case -1 :

For instance, the /etc/passwd file is delimited with colons (:) instead of whitespace. If we wanted to print out the first column of this file, we could type:

sudo awk 'BEGIN { FS=":"; }{ print $1; }' /etc/passwd

We can use the BEGIN and END blocks to print simple information about the fields we are printing:

sudo awk 'BEGIN { FS=":"; print "User\t\tUID\t\tGID\t\tHome\n--------------"; } {print $1,"\t\t",$3,"\t\t",$4,"\t\t",$6;} END { print "---------\nFile Complete" }' /etc/passwd

You can type your awk script in a file and specify that file using the -f option.

Our file contains this script:
