Two-Day Skin Detoxing

Only one of us sisters has tried this, as it is a very intense detox that needs the will and strength to go on for 2 days without food. At the beginning you might suffer from acne breakouts along with slight dizziness, headaches and weakness. All are symptoms indicating your body is detoxifying and reacting as it thoroughly cleanses itself. Believe me it is worth it as it cleared my skin and even made me feel healthier inside out. Here is a schedule of the 2days skin detox. I advice you get all your needed ingredients before hand and to try it out in the weekend where you have nothing to do.

Day 1

8:00am: A glass of still mineral water at room temperature with half a squeezed lemon in it. Take 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil + 3 cloves of raw crushed garlic.

8:30am: Skin brushing followed by a warm bath

9:00am: Apple and carrot juice (good alternative: wheatgrass juice)

9:30am: A glass of filtered or mineral water + daily detox tea

10:00am: Handful of raisins

10:30am: A glass of filtered or mineral water

11:00am: Handful of walnuts

11:30am: A glass of filtered or mineral water + daily detox tea

12:00pm: Low-sugar vegetable soup

12:30pm: A glass of filtered or mineral water

1:00pm: One apple and one cucumber

1:30pm: A glass of filtered or mineral water + daily detox tea

2:00pm: Handful of grapes

2:30pm: A glass of filtered or mineral water

3:00pm: 5 Brazil nuts

3:30pm: A glass of filtered or mineral water + daily detox tea

4:00pm: Handful of grapes

5:00pm: A glass of filtered or mineral water

6:00pm: Low-sugar vegetable salad

7:00pm: A glass of filtered or mineral water

My sister and I heard a lot about Fish Pedicure and we were very keen and excited to try out this unusual pedicure treatment which involves plunging feet into a tank full of Garra Rufa fish which then suck and nibble away dead skin cells that are on your feet. It's been massive in Japan for years.

Natural Remedy | Exfoliating Oatmeal Cleanser

The raw oats act as a gentle exfoliant, helping to remove dead surface skin cells. Dirt particles and excess oil are removed through the interaction of the oatmeal, yogurt and witch hazel. Oatmeal is extraordinary in its calming properties.

Ingredients

12 heaping Tbs oatmeal

1/3 cup witch hazel

2 heaping Tbs plain yogurt

Shred the oats in a blender for a few seconds. Stop the blender for a moment, shake the oats from the bottom to the top, and restart for another few seconds. Put the shredded oats in a mixing bowl. Add the witch hazel and yogurt and mix well. Cut six pieces of cheesecloth about seven by eight inches each. Place three pieces on top of one another. Put the oatmeal mix on top of the layered cheesecloth. Make a sachet by tying a string around the cheesecloth (not so tight that the content is squeezed out). Repeat with the rest of the cheesecloth and remaining oatmeal mix. Place the two sachets in a tight container and store in the refrigerator. The oatmeal sachet has the consistency of a soft soap, but it is much purer and soothing than soap.

This cleanser is best used in the shower, where the face can be rinsed more effectively. If the oatmeal sachet is a little hard from the refrigerator, soften it by applying a bit of warm water. The first step is to splash the face with lots of warm water to open the pores. Cleanse by pressing the sachet against the skin. Move the oatmeal sachet over the face, massaging in firm upward and outward circular motions, squeezing gently to release the cleansing extracts. Pay special attention to the nose area where blackheads tend to form. Massage the cleanser into the skin for at least one to two minutes. Rinse well with warm water when finished. Each sachet will last one week used morning and night.

If you dye your hair it may happen that your natural eyebrow color and your actual hair color is drastically different. To fix this problem, you can dye your eyebrows using a similar shade that matches your hair color. For this purpose, you can find some excellent products on the cosmetic market and you don’t have to worry, since dyeing your eyebrows at home is not that difficult, as it may seem to you. All you need is attention and a few minutes.

One of the most important things is to shop for the right nuance of eyebrow dye that matches your hair. If your hair is blonde, shop for lighter colors, while if your hair is brown, red or black, you will look great having darker eyebrows. Clean your face well, using a mild soap. Make sure your face is completely dry and pull your hair in a ponytail to prevent it from falling into your face while dying.

Take a Q-Tip to gently outline your eyebrows with face cream or Vaseline to protect the area around your eyebrows from being colored or stained. Always make sure that you haven’t covered any of your eyebrow hairs, otherwise the dye won’t work.

You can use normal hair dye or special eyebrow dye. Take the mixing cup and stir the ingredients as recommended. The mixture you created should be a paste, which is glumpy so that it won’t run off your eyebrows. Follow the instructions on using the dye in order to make sure you won’t damage your brows. Use the applicator included in the eyebrow dye kit or take a Q-Tip and apply carefully a small amount so that you can cover your eyebrows. Proceed with care in order to avoid applying the product on your skin. Color your eyebrows and pay attention to cover all areas on your brows evenly, so that no hair is left out. The best method is to build the color up slowly, so you can follow the curve of your brows easily, without dying the skin. Be careful so that your eyebrows are tidy and not dripping with dye. When you are finished with one eyebrow, proceed similarly with the other as well.

Leave the dye to sit on your brows for about 15 minutes or as it is recommended in the instructions of the eyebrow kit and then wipe it off using a cotton pad. It is important not to leave the dye more than the recommended time, since it can cause serious skin irritations and damages to your brows. After you have removed the dye, continue with washing the area completely, using wet cotton pads and mild soap. Always close your eyes while you are doing this, in order to prevent the dye from getting into your eyes. When you have finished with rinsing your face, finish off with applying a moisturizer both on your face and your eyebrows.

Tip : When you are shopping for an eyebrow kit, always make sure that you buy a safe dye. In order to avoid allergic reactions to the dye, it is advisable to do a patch test prior to applying the dye on your eyebrows.

Ingredients

1 egg white

1/4 cup plain organic yogurt

1/4 cup mayonnaise

Beat egg white until frothy. Mix with yogurt and mayonnaise. Massage into wet hair. Leave in for 20-30 minutes, then wash out with a shampoo. Rinse with mild cold water. Use monthly to moisturize hair.

Eyebrows Penciling or Shading

Brow powders or powder eyeshadow:
Use shades that closely match the colour of your brow, choose a soft-textured matte powder and apply with a soft wedge brush or a thin liner brush. Begin application in the center of the brow and work outward toward the brow tip then back toward the beginning of the brow. Use short, light strokes between the brow hairs, and apply a bit more pressure (for stronger colour) when defining the underside of the brow. Use a spooly to soften the color and groom the brow. For unruly brows, a clear brow gel may be applied to keep hairs in place. Alternately, you may apply a bit of hairspray to the spooly, and comb this through the brow for hold and control. Using brow powders are recommended for those who have light eyebrows.

Eyebrow pencils: Are a standard way to fill in brows but many can produce a greasy, hard look or matte the brow hair, so make sure you use a pencil that has a smooth, light texture and soft, dry finish. If penciling doesn’t look absolutely natural, don’t do it. Using eyebrow pencils are for those who have thick and dark eyebrows but need help with filling in gaps. Follow the same application technique described under brow powders when using an eyebrow pencil. Keep in mind that most brow pencils deposit stronger colour than a powder, so take care to use a light touch. If you apply too much colour, soften the effect with a Q-Tip that has been dipped in makeup remover or run it through with a spooly. Do not apply eyebrow pencil too close to the inner brow (near the nose). Adding more than a bit of colour here tends to create a too-strong or angry-looking brow.

The cold and dry winter has left its marks on our skin as well. During these months, our skin looses its moisture and becomes more and more rough and dry. The skin on our elbows is very thick, therefore elbows are one of the most affected areas of our body that suffer from dryness. There are some amazing home remedies for dry elbows that will help you to make them soft and healthy for the spring season.

Exfoliate
Exfoliation is the first important step to start with. First of all you have to clean the rough area, removing the dead skin cells by exfoliating with a proper body scrub. you can opt for a home made scrub If your skin is very dry, natural ingredients are the best. exfoliate for several days until your elbows become soft and touchable. After you have achieved the desired result, apply the scrub occasionally. Here are our two favourite home made scrubs we use.

Sugar scrub: Mix 1/8 cup of olive oil with 1/4 cup of brown sugar and massage it gently into your elbows. Leave it on for minutes, then rinse.

Lemon Salt Scrub: Mix 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1/2 cup of salt. Scrub the paste into your elbows and gently rub off the dead skin cells. Then, rub the two lemon wedges on your elbow and stay like this for 5-10 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. This scrub is amazing for getting rid of the dark patches as well.

Moisturize
After exfoliation, the next step is to moisturize and re-hydrate your skin thoroughly. Opt for a rich moisturizing cream. If you want to give your elbows an even more intensive treatment, you can also apply some olive oil, almond oil or lavender oil to nourish your dry skin.

Tip: You can also try melting some butter in the microwave and massaging it into your elbow. This is another great natural moisturizer. we also apply these natural remedies to other dry body parts such as: ankles or knees as well.

Castor oil is our newest and favorite beauty friend. So you must be wondering why? Well Castor oil has many medicinal and curative uses, and the same properties that make it so effective in healing the body also make it an excellent choice for maintaining beautiful and healthy skin and hair, a stronger immune system and many many more...

1) Thicker eyelashes and eyebrows: Rub a little castor oil over the base of your eyelashes and brow line before bed. This prevents thinning and promotes rapid growth, leading to thicker and fuller lashes. In fact, many commercial products for eyelashes contain Castor oil.

2) Prevents hair loss, regenerates hair and dandruff: The anti-bacterial and anti-fungicidal properties of ricinoleic acid in castor oil protects the scalp and hair from infections which can cause hair loss. The Omega-9 fatty acids in Castor oil also nourish the hair and prevent the scalp from drying. Rubbing Castor oil on your scalp and the roots of your hair will regenerate new hair growth within months. You can mix Castor oil with coconut oil or olive oil. This will also thicken thinning hair. For a deep healing treatment, rub it into your scalp and leave it on overnight. You can wrap your hair up in a towel or a shower cap to keep the oil on your scalp and away from your bed linen, castor oil stains are almost impossible to remove.

3) Stronger Nails:For weak brittle nails, Apply the oil on your nails. Message each nail and cuticle for a few minutes and leave the oil on overnight.

4) Softens thick calluses and removes corns: Castor oil application will soften any rough or thickened skin, including calluses and corns. To treat corns, apply Castor oil over your feet and put cotton socks on before going to bed. Incidentally, sleeping with Castor oil socks on will also soothe painful heels and foot pain. Another tip for super soft feet, massage the oil on the feet and ankles. Soak them in hot water for 15 minutes. Pat your feet dry.

5) Castor Oil prevents stretch marks: Rub a small amount of castor oil over your stomach and thighs daily to prevent stretchmarks during pregnancy or periods of weight gain.

6) Start Labour: In an attempt to start labor, some women will drink a mixture of Castor oil and juice. The various recipes for this mixture are generally called a "midwife cocktail." This is only one of several non-medical techniques used to try to induce labor, and may be used in combination with other natural techniques. There are many "recipes" for the midwife cocktail. They are all built around 2 oz of Castor oil (around 4 tablespoons). Because Castor oil is unpalatable alone, it is mixed with orange juice, grape juice, or tea. Some recipes encourage large volumes of juice to dull the flavor of the oil.

7) Cures acne: The Ricinoleic Acid in Castor oil works to inhibit many viruses and bacteria, and as Castor oil is able to penetrate skin tissue deeply, this makes it an effective treatment for acne. To treat acne, dab a hot damp washcloth all over your face in the evening before you go to bed. The heat will gently open the pores on your face. After this, massage a little castor oil gently into the skin. Leave on overnight. Repeat this daily for 1 to 2 weeks to see results. You can also repeat this once at night and once in the morning.

8) Topical treatment: You may have not thought to use castor oil on bacterial infections (like ringworm), sunburns, or warts, but this powerful oil may be your answer. The ricinoleic acid found in castor oil works as a preventative from the spreading and growth of bacteria, viruses, and yeast. To use as a topical cream, prep the infected area, by softening the skin with Epsom salt. Then soak a cotton cloth in castor oil and wrap the area with the cloth until the infection is gone. There are still so many things we can say about the benefits of Castor oil but this will be a very long post so we'll definitely do more posts in the future about this. Stay tuned....
