Hey all,

I'm trying to cut out a specific shape that I made using the Bezier tool, but every time I try to shift+click the objects and select "set clip", it gives me a weird negative space created by the individual curves even though I've already used "Union" , "Combine" and "Convert Object to Path". All I want is a solid outline that I can insert into another object of the same shape so I can create layers of color within it. Pics of what I'm talking about included. I know I could do this if there was a way to convert a path into an object, but sadly only the reverse feature is available in Inkscape. I have a bunch of random lines that I generated with a program I wrote, as an svg.
I also have some text that I I wrote in inkscape.

I've imported the lines and I have the text in inkscape and I'd like to clip the random lines so that they only appear in inside the text... which I can do, but then I cannot seem to convert the result of that to paths.. as I want to plot this with a pen plotter.

basically, how do I take open paths (lines), and a closed path, and take the intersection of those as paths?

I've attached a rendering of what I can do with clipping (filled text over the random lines).. though for some reason the rendering gets some blurring on the borders of the text.

Thanks,
Alex

testrand.svg

Statistics: Posted by xnor — Mon Dec 02, 2019 1:55 pm — Replies 1 — Views 65

I bought some Hebrew alphabet letters on Cutcaster.com. They are vector images.

The download gave me 2 files. One was an image of the 22 letters, the other file was an eps file.

I am told that the .eps file can be opened up by Inkscape, so I can use the individual letters of the Hebrew alphabet to spell words.

I am hoping to make some flash cards of Hebrew words that will be a screensaver for me. So I would use the 22 letters individually to spell different words. But this is not happening. All I have is one picture of 22 Hebrew letters on a flat surface. The letters cannot be seperated or rearranged to spell anything in this format.

Anyway, I have installed Ghostscripts but can't tell if Inkscape is using it or not. I am guessing an .eps file is some sort of layered file, like you might see in Blender 3D

Right now all I see is the 22 letters on a flat sheet of paper, so they are not seperated so I can use them to spell words.

Any ideas on how to get started.

Literally, all I want to do is spell a Hebrew word, put its meaning in English below it. if I can make an image file for each one of the words with their definition, Windows 10 will turn all those files into a screen saver for me.

Any ideas on how I might accomplish this.
Statistics: Posted by lucabrasi — Mon Dec 02, 2019 10:29 am — Replies 5 — Views 126

Hello all

What I want (Summary):
I want to write a code in python (other suggestions are welcomed too) to automate the process of gcode generation.

what I have done:
I am working with endurance lasers plugin in Inkscape 0.92.3 on Ubuntu 18.04.3 64 bit. I open png file in Inkscape GUI, and I use the following options in that exact order:
object to path
trace bitmap
extensions---Endurance Laser G-code
After this, endurance laser g-code popup window opens in which I input the parameters like laser power, feed speed, location of output gcode file etc. After clicking apply the gcode is generated and the file is dumped in a specified location.

What I want (In Detail):
I need to automate the above process completely. All the png files will be in a folder. The output gcode files can be saved in the same folder or any other location. I am thinking of python code which can be run on bootup and does this job automatically. I am ready to do this in any other programming language too If this can't be achieved using python.
Also if there is any standalone python code that can do this without Inkscape and generate gcodes for compatible with grbl or raster machines, suggest them too.
Any and all the help is appreciated, thanking you in advance.
Statistics: Posted by Ram K — Thu Nov 28, 2019 7:31 pm — Replies 1 — Views 77
