Welcoming the guests from UUM

This group of students come from UUM. They are all a member of UUM 24 Festive Drums Team. This UUM 24 Festive Drums Team was founded in July 11th, 2010 in Northern University of Malaysia by Celeste Hoo Yee Ying and Kennie Kheng Yau Tzuen, together with a few experienced and talented drummers like Caven Chong Kah Hoe, Chan Siong Hee, Khoh Sin Wei, Oh Chai Ying and other greenhands who never play drums before. With great passion and interest, they learned and enjoyed the fun of drumming.

In 21 May 2015 and 22 May 2015, they were staying at Inn House Homestay! The reason they came here is to build up their bonding and let them understand each other. This is the second time they choose Inn House Homestay as venue for this activity . This students love the strategic location of this homestay since it is near to their university. Below are some photos during the activity at here. =)

Inn House Homestay was located at Changlun, the state of Kedah. Kedah show traces of Malay history dating back before the Melaka Sultanate.This is the "rice-bank" of Malaysia and visitors are greeted with stretches of green 'padi'/rice plants gently swaying with the breeze which turn to a golden brown when the padi is ready for harvesting.The legendary Langkawi steeped in history and myth, a haven for tourists, lies offshore.

Interesting places in Alor Setar

1. Alor Setar Tower

Located in the heart of Alor Setar, this 165.5-metre tower is one of the tallest telecommunications tower in the world. It is a prominent and modern landmark that signifies the rapid development in the state of Kedah.

At its tip is the Seri Angkasa Revolving Restaurant which specialises in a variety of sumptious local as well as international cuisine. From here, one can enjoy a spectacular view of Alor Setar and nearby Butterworth. On clear days, you can even try to spot the neighbouring country of Thailand!

Besides landmark-spotting, the tower also serves as an observatory tower from which to look for the crescent moon to mark the beginning of Muslim months. The observation deck stands at a height of 88 metres from the base of the structure.

Tickets to the observation deck are MYR 6 for adults and MYR 3 for children (prices subject to change). A souvenir shop at this level ensures that breathtaking views are cemented as little trinkets for your trip home.

2.Tree Top Walk Sungai Sedim

The spectacular view you get when you stroll through the jungle canopy is the main draw for visitors from far and wide to this quiet, all-natural corner of Kedah.

3.Zahir Mosque

One of Kedah's most distinctive architectural landmarks, Masjid Zahir or Zahir Mosque stands as an elegant example of Malay- Islamic architecture.

Built in 1912, it is one of the oldest mosques in the country. The design was inspired by the vision of the late Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Zainal Abidin II. Its five large, black domes symbolise the Five Pillars of Islam.

Located in central Alor Setar, it is the official mosque for the state as well as the main mosque for local Muslims and the venue for the annual Koran reading competition.

It is also the burial site of Kedah warriors who died while defending the state from the Siamese in 1821.

4.The Paddy Museum

The Paddy Museum is the first of its kind in Malaysia, and the fourth to be opened in the world after Japan, Germany and the Philippines.

The unique architecture of the Paddy Museum represents bushels of harvested rice stalks. Rice motifs are repeated throughout the building, on staircase banisters, the museum gates and the fence surrounding it.

The museum showcases the paddy cultivation process in Malaysia and displays all kinds of tools and equipment which have been used in the trade over the years. Through beautiful murals, the artwork of 60 artists from North Korea, the history of paddy cultivation in Malaysia is revealed.

5.Bujang Valley

The Bujang Valley or Lembah Bujang is a sprawling historical complex situated near Merbok, Kedah. Once the site of the Srivijaya Empire, an ancient Malay kingdom dating back from the first few centuries to the 12th century, it is the richest archaeological area in Malaysia.

Over the years, numerous artefacts have been uncovered in the Bujang Valley - celadon, porcelain, stoneware, clay, pottery, fragments of glass, beads and Persian ceramics - evidences that Bujang Valley was once a centre of international and entrepot trade in the region.

More than 50 ancient Hindu or Buddhist temples, called candi, have also been unearthed, adding to the spirituality of the place. The most well-preserved of these is located in Pengkalan Bayang Merbok, which is also where the Bujang Valley Archaeological Museum is located. This museum is the first archaeology museum built in Malaysia, under the Museum and Antiquity Department.

Basic Facts About Thailand

Area: 514,000 sq km

Population: 64,631,595

Capital City: Bangkok (known locally as Krung Thep – the city of Angels)

Currency: Thai Baht

Head of State: His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX of the Chakri Dynasty)

Time Zone: Seven hours ahead of Greenwich Man Time

Electricity: The electric current is 220 volt AC (50 cycles) throughout the country. A number of types of plug are in use in Thailand including two and three pin. Plug adapter kits are widely available.

Weights and Measures: Thailand uses the metric system

Business Hours and Banking: Thailand operates a five day business week from Monday to Friday. Most offices are open from 8am to 5pm. Government offices are open from 8.30am to 4.30pm with a one hour lunch break from noon.

Banks open from 9.30am to 3.30pm although some are open longer and there are exchange booths with longer hours in major cities and tourist areas. ATM/cashpoint machines are widely available in urban areas and most accept cards from overseas accounts.

Thaleban National Park

This lush tropical park sits at Thailand's southern tip, far out along the Malay Peninsula. Thaleban is carpeted with a remarkable semi-evergreen rain forest, which features flora and fauna more indigenous to Malaysia and Sumatra. Over 200 species of birds inhabit the park, including the peregrine falcon (the world's fastest animal), black baza hawk, helmeted hornbill, and the dusky crag martin. Interesting mammals such as the lesser mousedeer, white-handed gibbons, dusky leaf monkeys are sighted with regularity.

Sukhothai

Founded in 1257, Sukhothai was the first capital of Thailand. The old city and its magnificent ruins are located about 12 kilometres from modern Sukhothai, in Thailand's northern hills.

Part of ancient Sukhothai's wonder is its very brevity. It lasted only about 100 years, but during that time it produced a collection of temples and monuments rivaling that of any city in history. Wat Mahathat, an enormous complex of temples, statues, and gardens, and it is only one of the ruins in old Sukhothai.
