A renovated hotel in the resort of Saturn which is the summer holiday area of the town Mangalia. | population 44000 | The hotel reopend 2009 and has 242 rooms of which 24 are apartments. The hotel has a spa, conferance room, playroom for kids and a huge swimming pool. Has been given a four star label. All rooms have internet access, air condition, a mini bar and a safe. Rates mid summer range from 240 - 440 ron for a room.

The reason one should stay at this hotel is the wonderful swimming pool, one of the best at the entire coastline of Romania. Big, but not oversized, clean, with different bars and shapes and a few slides enough to entertain kids. And the location is super overlooking the Black Sea. If you are not staying at the hotel, you pay an entrance fee. Restaurants and shops close by. You may walk to Mangalia town centre in 20 minutes.

The hotel itself is ok but a bit pricy when it comes to short stays, good offers for longer stays, Probably because of the 4 star label. And it seems too big for a small resort as Saturn. It is rarely crowded and you have a feeling of being a bit on your own in this from the outside a bit "commie" looking hotel. The hotel has a lot of services and a Swedish buffet as breakfast included. However, nothing very special about Cleapatra apart from the great pool and the lovely location

HOTEL ANCA EFORIE NORD has a brilliant location in a peaceful area right by the Belona Lake which is situated between the bigger Lake Techirghiol and the Black Sea itself, the Black Sea Beach is just 100m away. It is a five minutes walk to the town centre, the same to the FALEZA and the BELONA holiday walkway.

HOTEL ANCA has a private and exclusive atmosphere without being FITZE, or in English. without being snobbish. ANCA has a great pool in a resort where very few hotels have their own swimming pool, and it comes with a nice pool bar and terrace that host live music regularly.

HOTEL ANCA has conferance room, bright and modern rooms for the guests and offer a lot of services from the reception, There is net access in all rooms as well.

The prices differ a lot , from 90 ron to 250 ron for a double room depending on the season. And surprise pet lovers: They DO ACCEPT pets.

OUR LOG | If you arrive by bus from Constanta to Mangalia the first main stop in Mangalia is Nordiana at the Railway Station. It is a self service restaurant but also a small hotel. The restaurant has the best CIORBA DE PERISOARE at the Romanian seaside. If you do not stay, at least try this wonderful soup made by cooks who do their job in the same area as their clients.
The rooms are also actually a pleasant surprise and the price is right too about 120 ron for a double room

MOTEL INTIM BARLAD

BARLAD is a very nice small town in the Moldova region of Romania with nice parks, daily markets,theatre, clubs and a friendy population. If you do not want to spend money on the two hotels in town you may pick MOTEL INTM below

OUR LOG | No website, no photos, no promo, no extras, that is MOTEL INTIM in the very centre of Barlad. But if you need a bed for the night and is low on cash, 50 lei for a room with two beds and a TV and two bathrooms in the hallway is ok. It is clean, privately owned and organised like a private home with rooms facing a common room with fridge and chairs. INTIM is situated on the third floor above a bar, a disco and a nightclub and has walls thin as paper, so you can guess the rest,

If you have a room right above the nightclub it is like sleeping behind two big loudspeakers run on max volume. Walls shaking, bed rocking and no peace until 03 am.
If you can sleep at day and be somewhere else at nighttime, - or spend your night in the nightclub downstairs, MOTEL INTIM may be the place. The friendly hosts will treat you as their private guest. | PHONE 0752629023 | or ask a local taxi to drop you off at the entrance.

THERE ARE A FEW HOTELS AROUND THE MAIN RAILWAY STATION GARA DE NORD IN BUCURESTI, SOME VERY EXPENSIVE AND NOT SO CLOSE THE STATION; SOME VERY CLOSE AND VERY CHEAP BUT ALSO DIRTY, - AND THEN THERE IS " SIR GARA DE NORD" - THAT IS OK; SMALL, NOT EXPENSIVE AND UPDATED. THE HOTEL HAS CHANGED NAMES A LOT

PRICES FOR A ROOM IS AROUND 30 EUROS A NIGHT. THIS PRICE WAS HANDED TO US AS A PROMO AT THE RAILWAY STATION. HOPEFULLY PRICES WILL BE AT THIS LEVEL ALSO IN THE FUTURE: JUST ACROSS THE STREET OF THE STATION, YOU MAY WALK.

GARA DE NORD IS NOT A GREAT AREA TO BE WALKING ABOUT, BUT AS A STOPOVER FOR A NIGHT BEFORE YOU MOVE ON WITH YET ANOTHER TRAIN, HOTEL SIR IS A PERFECT PLACE TO SPEND THE NIGHT.

OUR COMMENTS:

HOTEL NORD IN PLOIESTI IS A WELL RUN THREE STAR HOTEL IN A CENTRAL PART OF PLOIESTI. ( The city has several centres like " north " " west " and " south ".

ROOMS ARE NICE AND CLEAN, NET IS PROVIDED BY A NETCAFE IN THE LOBBY AND THE HOTEL HAS ALSO A SAUNA, A FITNESS ROOM AND ORGANISES CONFERENCES AND PARTIES. A MODERN LOOK AND ALL AVERAGE BUSINESS CLASS IN THE BUDGET NICHE. STAFF SPEAK ENGLISH AND ARE FORMALLY CORRECT WITHOUT HAVING THAT FRIENDLY TOUCH THAT YOU FIND IN SMALLER HOTELS IN ROMANIA.

PRICES ARE HIGHER THAN " FORUM " ALSO IN PLOIESTI, AND ALL IN ALL " FORUM " IS ABOUT THE SAME IF YOU ARE NOT KEEN OF USING SAUNAS AND FITNESS ROOMS.

EXELCIOR PENSION | BACAU

The pension has a twin villa in the town of MONESTI.

OUR COMMENTS:

For 100 ron a night we had a wonderful room or more correctly an apartmant very practically furnished, spacious, with TV and a roomy bathroom. EXELCIOR is situated in a peaceful residential area, not too far from the city centre. A walk to the city centre takes 20 min and taxis cost just 5 ron. The pension is not well known by locals so a print of the address and map from the net may be handy, even to show local taxi drivers. A modest sign outside on the fence is the only public sign leading to this very nice and cheap pension. The reception is in a seperate house and staff is friendly and gives you the feeling of being a private guest. English is not spoken but you get by anyway. Recommended in all ways. The only catch may be the location which is a bit like a hideaway.

OUR OPINION: THIS FOUR STAR HOTEL IS ONE OF THE BEST ON THE ROMANIAN SEASIDE TAKEN THE PRICE IN CONSIDERATION : EUROPA IS ACTUALLY CHEAPER THAN YOU COULD EXPECT FROM A HOTEL IN THIS CATEGORY WITH A SUPER LOCATION: IN THE VERY CENTRE OF EFORIE NORD WITH A BIG GARDEN; A GREAT AND LONG TERRANCE; A WELL DESIGNED SWIMMING POOL AND ALL ROOMS FACING THE BLACK SEA WITH A PANORAMA VIEW. SPA TREATMENT NEXT DOOR, A LOT OF ACTIVITIES; STAFF SPEAKS SEVERAL LANGUAGES AND SERVICE DISCREET AND POLITE. ROOMS WELL EQUIPPED WITHOUT BEING FLASHY. THE HOTEL HAS ITS OWN BEACH A FIVE MINUTES WALK FROM THE HOTEL WITH BEACH SERVICE. PRICES START ON 70 EUROS A ROOM AND UP: OFFERS FOR LONGER STAYS: NOT BAD AT ALL AND FAR CHEAPER THAN MAMAIA HOTELS WITH LOWER STANDARD.

Regrettably the hotel closed winter 2010-11 and is due to open at EASTER.
Whispers about conflicts and financial failures may be true. We hope though that the summer 2011
will be back to the normal.

Every day, trough BRASOV RAILWAY STATION, pass around 150 passenger trains and numerous freight trains. Trains arrive to BRASOV RAILWAY STATION and leave for all parts of Romania and even for destinations abroad, such as: Budapest, Vienna, Munchen, Prague, Bratislava, and Crakovia.

But what do all these have to do with our HOTEL?

The answer is simple : HOTEL ELEGANCE EXPRESS is located right inside BRASOV RAILWAY STATION and offers you quallity at prices .

Maybe you are wondering why we have located the HOTEL inside BRASOV RAILWAY STATION?

Well, we located it inside BRASOV RAILWAY STATION because of those 150 trains that transit the station and because of our need to offer our services to the people who pass by every day and to everyone else who crosses our doorstep.

NO ELEGANCE, MORE LIKE EXPRESS

WELL, YOU ARE ACTUALLY LIVING ON THE PLATFORM OF THE RAILWAY STATION WHEN STAYING IN THIS HOTEL AND THE SOUND OF LOCOMOTIVES AND ANNOUNCING LOUDSPEAKERS ARE INCLUDED IN THE PRICE:WHICH IS DEAD CHEAP AS IT IS IN THE CENTRE OF BRASOV PROBABLY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CITY IN ROMANIA. 98 ron for a single room as an example.

SOME OF OUR READERS HAVE HAD STRANGE EXPERIENCES WITH THIS HOTEL. STAFF IS TRYING TO EXPLAIN, BUT THE WHOLE PICTURE IS NOT CLEAR. THEY PICKED THE HOTEL EARLY SPRING 2010 BECAUSE THE WEBSITE PROMISED AIR CONDITION, MINIBAR ETC. WHEN THEY ARRIVED IN THE HOTEL NONE OF THESE THINGS EXISTED.
WHILE POINTING THIS OUT, THE STAFF SAID THERE NEVER HAD BEEN MINIBARS AND AIRCONDITION IN THE ROOMS.
HOWEVER, PRESENTING A COPY OF THE WEBSITE TO THE STAFF - THE OWNER SAID WELL, THAT IS A TECHNICAL ISSUE. AND HE REFUSED TO COMPENSATE - AT FIRST

THE GUESTS MOVED TO ANOTHER HOTEL AND GOT THEIR ADVANCE MONEY BACK, AND A FEW HOURS LATER WHEN CHECKING THE WEBSITE ALL THE NON-EXISTING ITEMS IN THE ROOM WERE ERASED FROM THE INFORMATION TEXT.

STAFF IS FRIENDLY ALL RIGHT, BUT THESE KIND OF GAP BETWEEN PROMO AND REALITY DOES NOT HELP THE IMAGE OF THE HOTEL. IF YOU WANT TO SAVE ON YOUR CURRENT BILL BY REMOVING ENERGY CONSUMING ITEMS IN THE HOTEL ROOM, YOU SHOULD SLIM YOUR GLOSSY PROMO AS WELL. A BASIC RULE IF YOU ARE A HOTELIER. AND BEING A RUDE OWNER IS NOT A GOOD OWNER.

NO IN - RESTAURANT BUT PLENTY OF SHOPS, BARS, TAXI STATIONS ETC ETC. ONE BIG SHOPPING MALL VIS-A-VIS THE STATION. A REAL BARGAIN.

DO WE RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL? YES, IF YOU CAN STAND THE NOISE FROM THE STATION, THE LOCATION IS MORE THAN PERFECT FOR A TRAIN TRAVELLER AND CHEAP BEING IN THE CENTRE OF BRASOV.

A GOOD VALUE HOTEL IN WALKING DISTANCE TO THE CITY CENTRE; BANKS AND GAS STATION NEXT DOOR: FRIENDLY AND EASYGOING STAFF: ROOMS CLEAN AND BASICALLY ALL YOU NEED; FRIDGE IN ROOM . AND NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR TO THE HUGE AFI SHOPPING MALL!

CHEAP COMPARED TO OTHER HOTELS IN PLOIESTI WITH SAME STANDARD REGARDLESS OFFICIAL STAR LABEL. YOU MAY PICK ROOMS WITH THREE OR FOUR STAR STANDARD. BREAKFAST IS MODEST, BUT YOU MAY HAVE GOOD AND CEAP HOT MEALS LATER IN THE DAY IN THEIR RESTAURANT

FORUM IS A NICE PLACE TO STAY AND WE RETURN OFTEN. RECOMMENDED!
