It is important for messages, especially positive messages to travel, to travel further.

Disclaimer: This article is based solely on publicly available information, official communications, and observations from the ongoing CBSE 2026 post-result services process.

The purpose is to document digital transaction and user-awareness learnings from a live student-facing digital journey.

Over the past few days, I have been following the CBSE verification and re-evaluation process from a Digital Transactions Day perspective.

The journey has offered several interesting observations.

There were discussions around session time limits, user experience, payment gateway awareness, platform monitoring, and the importance of timely communication during a live service window.

One observation from yesterday stood out.

CBSE clarified that students do not need an account with the payment gateway banks to complete payments on the verification and re-evaluation portal. Students could continue to use familiar payment options such as UPI, Net Banking, Debit Cards, and Credit Cards through the designated gateways.

At one level, it was a simple clarification.

At another level, it addressed a question that many students and parents may naturally ask:

"If I do not have an account with this bank, will my payment still work?"

That clarification was important because digital transaction journeys are not experienced by bankers alone.

They are experienced by students, parents, teachers, and first-time users who are focused on completing an important task successfully.

What caught my attention next was how the message travelled further.

State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, and Indian Bank each published messages explaining the availability of their payment gateway services for CBSE students.

More importantly, the communication consistently highlighted a key point:

Payments could be made using accounts from any bank through available payment options such as UPI, Internet Banking, Debit Cards, and Credit Cards.

Each institution explained the message in its own way.

Some shared transaction counts.

Some highlighted payment options.

Some emphasised service availability across banks.

Yet the underlying objective remained the same:

Helping students and parents understand the payment journey.

The story did not stop there.

CBSE subsequently reposted these communications through its official handle.

That created something interesting.

A clarification became amplification.

A single message was now being communicated through multiple trusted institutions participating in the same ecosystem.

From a citizen-observer perspective, this was encouraging to see.

No new payment rail was introduced.

No new technology platform was announced.

No major system enhancement was unveiled.

Yet the overall user experience may still have improved because awareness itself had increased.

One of the recurring themes of Digital Transactions Day is that successful digital journeys depend on more than technology.

Infrastructure matters.

Security matters.

Reliability matters.

But communication matters too.

Sometimes users need reassurance.

Sometimes they need clarity.

And sometimes a simple explanation can remove uncertainty at exactly the right moment.

The events of the past few days offer a small but useful example of that principle.

A question emerged.

A clarification was provided.

Multiple institutions amplified the message.

And the information reached further than it otherwise might have.

For me, that is the most interesting learning from this phase of the CBSE post-result services journey.

Not every improvement in a digital ecosystem needs to be technological.

Sometimes awareness creates confidence.

Sometimes confidence supports successful transactions.

And sometimes a simple message, when carried by multiple voices, can make a meaningful difference.

A difference which instils confidence in students and parents alike.

The same need.

Then, just as quickly, the activity disperses.

The preferred mode for CBSE to communicate to the world at large is through the X (Twitter) platform.

Disclaimer: This article is based solely on publicly available information, official CBSE communications, and publicly shared platform updates available at the time of writing. The observations are intended to encourage discussion on digital service experiences and digital transactions in education.

On June 2, 2026, very early morning , CBSE operationalized the portal for Verification of Issues observed in supplied scanned copies of answer books and Re-evaluation of Questions for eligible Class XII students. The process is fully online and remains open until June 6, 2026.

As the service window progresses, one particular update caught my attention.

CBSE publicly stated that, based on student feedback, the platform had been further refined, including an extension of session time limits to make the process more convenient and seamless.

At first glance, this may appear to be a small technical adjustment.

However, from a student-experience perspective, it is worth reflecting on why such a change matters.

The verification and re-evaluation process is not a simple form-filling exercise. Students may need to review scanned answer books, identify specific issues, select questions for re-evaluation, complete the required application details, and finally proceed to fee payment. The official guidance also emphasizes careful selection before submission because only one application is permitted for each process.

In such situations, time matters.

A session timeout is a common security feature used by digital platforms. After a certain period of inactivity, the system automatically ends the session and asks the user to log in again. The objective is security, but the user experience must also be considered.

It is understandable why some students may have requested additional session time. Unlike a routine login or a simple payment transaction, the re-evaluation journey involves decision-making.

Students may spend time reviewing scanned answer books, discussing observations with parents or teachers, noting specific questions, and carefully deciding what to include in their application.

In the case of verification of issues, students may need to identify concerns such as missing pages, missing supplementary sheets, missing maps or graphs, blurred pages, or other evaluation-related observations.

In the case of re-evaluation, students may wish to review one or more specific questions before deciding whether to submit a request.

A longer session duration can therefore reduce the feeling of being rushed.

Students are able to focus on the quality of their application rather than worrying about whether their session may expire before they complete the process.

While seemingly a small technical adjustment, the extension of session time limits can contribute to a calmer and more comfortable user experience.

Another aspect that stood out in the public updates was the scale at which the platform was operating.

CBSE initially reported that the portal was supporting over 8,000 concurrent users with more than 16,000 successful submissions.

Later in the evening, the board shared another update indicating that the portal was supporting nearly 14,000 concurrent users and had crossed 28,000 successful submissions.

For many students, a re-evaluation portal may appear to be a simple website. In reality, it is a live digital service handling thousands of simultaneous logins, application submissions, document references, payment transactions, and status updates.

The concurrent-user figures provide a glimpse into the scale at which the platform is operating during a relatively short application window.

The number of concurrent users during the day may see an increase.

More will be known, once CBSE tweets the latest position.

What I found particularly noteworthy was not merely the numbers, but the willingness to communicate them publicly.

Such updates help students and families understand that the process is active, monitored, and evolving.

The broader lesson extends beyond examinations.

Whether it is banking, payments, education, or public services, digital platforms often improve through a series of small refinements that make the user journey easier, clearer, and more comfortable.

At first glance, a re-evaluation portal may appear to be an examination-related service rather than a digital transactions story. However, every application ultimately depends on a successful online transaction.

The process includes digital authentication, online application submission, fee payment through digital channels, and electronic confirmation of the request.

In that sense, the CBSE re-evaluation portal is also a live example of digital transactions in action. The student experience is influenced not only by academic processes but also by the quality of the digital journey that supports them.

As someone who advocates Digital Transactions Day, I find value in observing such journeys in real time. Not because they are perfect, but because they offer opportunities to learn how digital services evolve when thousands of users interact with them simultaneously.

The extension of session time limits may not be the largest change made to the platform.

Yet it demonstrates something important.

Students shared feedback.

Introduction

On May 20, 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued revised draft Amendment Directions relating to the “Conduct of Regulated Entities in Recovery of Loans and Engagement of Recovery Agents.” The revised draft directions come after RBI received substantial feedback from stakeholders on the earlier draft released in February 2026.

One particular aspect of the revised draft has attracted significant attention across the lending and fintech ecosystem — the possibility of enabling technology-based mechanisms that may restrict or disable certain functionalities of financed mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets in cases of borrower default.

The revised draft directions are open for public comments till May 31, 2026.

The surge is also to get into the train.

Outside, near the main transit edges, vendors line the pathways.
Inside, the space opens — but serving disappears.

Someone slows down.
Looks around.

Not for variety.
For something simple.

Water.
A quick snack.

The pause is there.

But how it is served — changes everything.

Across the world, a traveller moves through Singapore.

The flow is continuous — but controlled.

Transit systems, public corridors, and commercial zones are tightly integrated.
From metro interchanges to waterfront promenades, movement is designed to remain fluid.

A vending point appears where it is needed.
A retail node sits exactly where movement slows.

Nothing feels added.
Everything feels placed.

Reimagining BKC Innovation Challenge

Today morning, I did my bit.

A small response… to a city (Mumbai) that never sleeps

And now you too can respond, need not currently stay in Mumbai.

It took a few minutes to submit.
It took much longer to understand why it mattered.

Just a form.
A few fields.
And at the end, a quiet line:

“Your response has been recorded.”

I paused there for a moment.

Not because something big had happened.
But because something small had… settled.

🌙 A Different Kind of Memory

I don’t remember exact dates anymore.

But I remember the rhythm.

Mumbai.
Late 1990s.

Office at Nariman Point.
Home in Thane.

The day didn’t begin with intention.
It began with movement.

Train compartments.
Platform edges.
A short walk that always felt longer in the evening.

And then, almost instinctively, the search would begin.

Not for a vehicle.
Not for a service.

Just for… the next step.

🚶‍♂️ The Moment Between

There is a moment in every commute.

Not the beginning.
Not the end.

Somewhere in between.

You step out.
You look around.
You don’t ask questions.
You recognise patterns.

And then you move.

Shared autos would be there.

No signage.
No digital interface.
No explanation.

And yet, there was understanding.

People would adjust.
Make space.
Move forward.

No one called it a system.

But it was one.

🧠 What I Didn’t Realise Then

That wasn’t chaos.

That was a system.

An unspoken one.

A system built not by policy…
but by people who needed to move.

⚡ Fast Forward to Today

We now speak differently.

We use words like:

integration
efficiency
seamless mobility

And yet, if you stand in Bandra Kurla Complex today, you will see something familiar.

Movement… still finding its way.
Not broken.
Just… not fully aligned.

🔍 A Quiet Question

When I came across the
Reimagining BKC Innovation Challenge

I didn’t feel the need to invent something new.

I felt the need to look again.

To ask:

What is already happening here…
that we are choosing not to organise?

💡 The Thought That Stayed

Maybe the role of design is not always to create.

Maybe sometimes, it is to notice.

To see:

what people have already solved
what behaviour has already stabilised
what patterns repeat quietly, every day

And then, gently, to bring structure.

🧩 What I Submitted

Nothing dramatic.

Just an attempt.

To take something that exists—
shared autos—and place a light frame around it.

A way to:

reduce uncertainty
make waiting a little clearer
make movement a little calmer

I have plenty of memories of travelling in shared autos / shared taxis in Mumbai.

Late night, early morning, before marriage n after marriage.

Technically, Thane too is part of Mumbai.

Last year, experienced the Joy of Shared Taxi from Dadar Station to Siddhivinayak temple.

Shared Autos are common in many parts of India, but in Mumbai the experience is just awesome.

🏙️ A Place for It to Happen

Not everywhere.

Just at certain points.

Where people already gather.

Where movement slows down for a moment.

Where decisions are made without thinking too much.

🧃 The Pause

I’ve been thinking a lot about pauses.

Not as interruptions.

But as part of movement.

You wait.
You look around.
You notice what’s missing.

Water, sometimes.
Something small to eat.
Just enough to continue.

So, I added:

A Smart Vending Grid at these nodes

Not as a feature.

But as a response.

Because:

The pause creates the need.
The system should respond to it.

We often overcomplicate trust.

We build layers.

Processes.

Checks.

But in reality, trust is simple:

You want to know who is driving you
and that the system will work

one quick verification per shift
clear visibility to the passenger

No more.
No less.

🤝 The Quiet Layer

Not everything needs to be digital.

Some things need presence.

Which is why I added, gently:

This system can be supported by on-ground facilitation and maintenance initiatives through public-private partnerships.

No heavy enforcement.

Just… guidance where needed.

📊 What This Really Is

If I step back, this is not a “mobility solution.”

It is something else.

It is an attempt to align systems with human behaviour.

🧨 Why I’m Writing This

Because the last date is approaching:

And there is time.

Not just to submit.

But to observe.

The emphasis on Early Warning Signals and Red Flagging is not new.
But what stands out here is the structured tightening of how signals are handled.

A few elements that caught my attention:

Expectation of a comprehensive and well integrated EWS system
Defined turnaround time for examining alerts and triggers
Formal reporting of Red Flagged Accounts to CRILC within a specified timeline

This is not just about identifying stress or anomalies.
It is about what happens after a signal is generated.

There is a visible shift from passive monitoring to time bound action and accountability.

🔷 Highlight 2

EWS Framework for Other Banking and Non Credit Transactions
Refer Part C, Page 10 and 11, Para 23 to 25

This section expands the scope meaningfully.

The framework moves beyond traditional credit monitoring into:

Digital transactions
Non-credit banking activities
Real time transaction behaviour

It also explicitly calls for:

Monitoring of unusual transaction patterns
Focus on areas such as non-KYC compliant accounts and mule accounts
Strengthening analytics for digital platforms and applications

What stands out here is the shift from account centric risk to transaction and behaviour centric risk.

With the growth of real time payments and digital channels, fraud risk is no longer confined to loan accounts.
It is increasingly networked, fast moving, and cross channel.

🔷 A Small Pause Before May 08

I will share more detailed reflections after May 08, 2026, once the consultation window closes.

There are a few additional areas in the draft that deserve attention, particularly around reporting frameworks and classification structures, but I will come back to those separately.

A quiet submission to RBI on April 25, 2026.

Not about controls but about visibility. More to share after May 8

There are moments in a system when the most important work happens quietly.

Not in announcements.
Not in dashboards.
But in submissions.

Today, I would like to share that I have submitted my inputs on the Draft Digital Payment Security Controls Directions 2026 issued by the Reserve Bank of India.

This is not a detailed disclosure.
That will come later.

This is a curtain raiser.

Why these matters

Digital transactions in India have reached a scale where they are no longer just a convenience.

They are infrastructure.
They are habit.
They are trust in motion.

Every tap, every scan, every confirmation message carries an implicit assurance
that the system will work
that it will be secure
and that it will stand behind the user.

The draft directions are a strong step in reinforcing that foundation.

The thought behind my submission

While the framework rightly focuses on controls at the level of individual entities, one idea kept returning to me:

What if we could also see the system as a whole, while it is in motion

Not just how each institution performs in isolation
but how the ecosystem behaves together

How signals rise and fade
How patterns begin to form
How small disruptions sometimes appear before they become visible events

A delay here
A spike there
A silence where there is usually activity

Individually, these may not mean much
But together, they can tell a story

Not after the fact
but as it unfolds

That is where visibility begins to matter

A simple example

Consider a familiar moment.

You initiate a transaction
Everything looks normal
But the OTP takes longer than expected

You wait
You retry
It works eventually

For one user, this is a small delay

But what if this is happening across thousands of users at the same time
across multiple institutions

Not a failure
Not an outage
Just a pattern that is slightly different from the usual

If such signals are visible early
they can be understood early
and addressed before they become larger issues

A layer beyond controls

My submission is anchored around a simple extension:

Controls are essential
but visibility makes them meaningful

A system at this scale does not just need strong design
it needs the ability to observe its own behaviour

To notice when something feels different
To respond before impact spreads
To reinforce trust not just after events, but during them

Why I am sharing this now

Recent observations across large-scale movement environments further reinforce the Pause Evolution Model.

Bengaluru – Conference Movement

During a large gathering of approximately 4000 participants at an AIBEA-related conference venue in Bengaluru, a one-kilometre walk between the entry gate and the main hall created repeated pause points.

The venue, typically used for high-profile events such as weddings, had no formal retail or refreshment points along this stretch.

Yet, informal vendors offering tea, soda, and ice cream quickly appeared and were actively serving participants.

Despite the absence of structured infrastructure, demand was immediately met.

Delhi – Airport Transit Movement

Across the extended transit ecosystem of Indira Gandhi International Airport, movement occurs at scale — travellers, staff, and service workers moving between terminals.

While infrastructure is well-developed, micro-access retail is not uniformly present across all movement stretches.

Where automated vending machines are available, the most frequently purchased item is often the simplest — a low-cost bottle of water.

A new era in E-mandate Framework – 8 Circulars Repealed

On April 21, 2026, the Reserve Bank of India issued the Digital Payments – E-mandate Framework, 2026, consolidating existing guidelines while incorporating stakeholder feedback into a more structured and user-aware regulatory architecture.

This framework governs recurring digital transactions across cards, UPI, and PPIs—an area that has steadily expanded with the rise of subscriptions, bill payments, and automated financial commitments.

At its core, the 2026 update represents a refinement and consolidation exercise, aimed at strengthening user control, improving transparency, and standardizing processes across the ecosystem.

What caught my eye!

What Stands Out: Two Practical Interpretations

1. One-Time Registration: Clarity Still Evolving

The framework states that a customer opting for the e-mandate facility is required to complete a one-time registration process.

While the requirement is clearly defined, the operational layer remains flexible:

Registration could be initiated through:

Issuer (bank) applications
Merchant platforms
Payment aggregator interfaces

The framework mandates Additional Factor Authentication (AFA) for this process, ensuring security and consent. However, it does not prescribe a uniform interface or centralized registration mechanism.

Brief view:
This approach enables ecosystem flexibility, though a more standardized discovery and management interface for mandates could enhance user experience over time.

2. Notification Mode Choice: Flexibility vs Simplicity

The framework enables customers to choose or modify the mode of receiving pre-transaction notifications (such as SMS, email, etc.).

Until now, communication for such alerts has largely followed a standard dual-channel approach (SMS and email) across most issuers. The updated provision introduces user-level choice in selecting the preferred notification channel.

Is this customer-friendly?

From a design perspective, the provision can be considered customer-friendly for the following reasons:

It allows users to align notifications with their preferred communication habits
It reduces dependency on a single or default channel
It provides flexibility to adapt preferences over time

Illustrative example:
A customer who actively monitors email but does not regularly check SMS may choose email as the primary notification mode for recurring subscription debits. Conversely, a user relying on basic mobile connectivity may prefer SMS-only alerts.

At the same time, the shift introduces a practical edge case:
If a customer selects only one channel (for instance, email) and does not actively monitor it, there is a possibility of missing a pre-debit alert, which could otherwise have been noticed under a dual-channel default system.

This makes the transition from a standard model to a choice-based model a balance between flexibility and awareness.

Shared responsibility dimension:

Issuers need to ensure clear defaults, nudges, and easy modification options
Customers need to select and maintain an active and monitored notification channel

Brief view:
The provision reflects a move toward personalization and user control.

Its effectiveness as a customer-friendly feature will depend on how intuitively issuers implement these choices, particularly in guiding users toward reliable notification preferences.

Two Key Additions Driven by Feedback

The 2026 framework reflects stakeholder feedback through targeted enhancements:

1. Grievance Redressal in Post-Transaction Notifications

Post-transaction alerts must now include:

Merchant details
Transaction amount, date, and reference
Reason for debit
Grievance redressal details

Significance:
This strengthens the customer support layer by ensuring that users are not only informed about a transaction but are also provided with an immediate pathway to raise concerns, if required.

2. Mapping E-Mandates to Reissued Cards

The framework allows existing e-mandates to be mapped to reissued cards.

Significance:
This reduces disruption in recurring payments during events such as card expiry or replacement, ensuring continuity for subscriptions, bill payments, and other automated transactions.

Other Structural Highlights

Additional Factor Authentication (AFA) required for:

Registration
First transaction
Transactions above prescribed limits

Transaction thresholds:

Up to ₹15,000 per transaction without AFA
Up to ₹1,00,000 for specified categories such as insurance premiums, mutual fund subscriptions, and credit card bill payments

Pre-transaction notification mandated at least 24 hours prior to debit
Opt-out facility available for individual transactions or mandates
No charges to customers for availing e-mandate facilities

Conclusion

The Digital Payments – E-mandate Framework, 2026 represents a measured evolution of India’s recurring payments ecosystem.

Rather than introducing sweeping changes, the framework focuses on:

Enhancing transparency
Strengthening customer control
Improving operational continuity

From a user perspective, the framework offers greater visibility, flexibility, and continuity. From a system perspective, it supports standardization while allowing implementation flexibility across participants.

Overall, the update reinforces the direction of building a reliable and user-centric digital payments environment, aligned with the growing adoption of automated financial transactions.
