FLAG! FLAG! FUCKING BLACK FLAG!!!

I heard ages ago that this was going down and I must admit that I wasn't overly excited at a Black Flag reunion.

Greg Ginn on guitar cuts it for me, being one of my biggest playing influences ever.

The GONE drummer Gregory A Moore, one of Flag's original singers Ron Reyes and Dave Klein who has played in Screeching Weasel among others. Which makes the "new" line up of Black Flag the first band since Bad Religion to have two Gregs in the band. (Apart from Gone).

Now....Black Flag being such a staple institute of hardcore punk I did fear the band getting back together again and tarnishing the name - although I think that's gonna be pretty hard to do. But still - check out the latest BF track for download.

Coming out of the South of Sweden is a band that you should all get a bit excited about and if not then we have nothing more to say to each other. Good day.

I SAID GOOD DAY!

Right...let's go...KNÆGT!!!!

I'm not gonna give you the "ex-members of" roll-call but we could name drop SATANIC SURFERS, SISTA SEKUNDEN, KONTROVERS and SKITKIDS among others. Basically.....you know it's gonna be good.

KNÆGT got together at the start of the year looking to form something that sounded a bit like RKL with influences of THE ACCUSED (see below)

So we're talking Old Skool Sk8 THRASH with the melody to back it up played by people that know how to do it. Boooyah!

So far KNÆGT are looking to get a cassette out and in the future a full album that they're gonna be recording in the summer looking to release in August.

Once again I find it hard to write reviews of new horror films because I don't want to be giving anything away at all - but....for ye the reader I can go into a bit eh and make it as spoiler free as I can.

A few people have been dissing Mr.Zombies new cinematic creation as being unscary, slow and a bit boring. To them I say NAY! NAY I SAY!

It's awesome.

Like all previous RZ movies the man takes you on a journey and mixes retro feelings and awesomeness with modern film making. Again it captures the feelings of an 80's video-nasty while also nodding and hinting to old classics such as The Devil Rides Out

Sheri Moon once again pops up, boobs n'all (see guys I just told you if it's worth watching or not) this time as the key role playing a DJ that is sent a record from "The Lords" which then starts to turn women a bit wobbly.

Sheri Moon has been great in everything she's in but this is her crown so far. Baby Firefly was awesome, this is pure genius. With so little she achieves so much. Not to mention this kick ass retro Van Halen tee!

Certainly not a slow film it builds and drags you down deeper - Rob did himself almost an anti-solid by releasing House Of 1000 Corpses and then having to live up to it... this does it.

Sure to go into cult status the film has also been novelised ...oh yes.

Bring on the lords and....LEVIATHAN THE FLEEING SERPENT!

Are these long lost CRASS songs from the 80s? No...these are the lyrics written by a band of 14 year olds growing up under the Tatcher regime.

Point being? Even a bunch of kids in 1989 that had not yet heard Crass, didn't know who the Exploited or Discharge were, wouldn't hear Chumbawumba for another 4 years and had no idea they were sat on the same beach that Disorder had taken pics on just a few years earlier....hated the Prime Minister of the country, Margret Thatcher.

Such was the impact on our lives and our parent's lives that we became politicised at a young age and I would imagine carried that through to today.

So you'll forgive us for being against the huge unemployment that was still going on when we left school from the miners and dockers and forgive us for thinking a war on the Falklands was not cool.

You might have seen the ads - from the producers of SINISTER and INSIDIOUS....Dark Skies.

It is my duty to investigate much of the new horror to see what it's all about. Now, both Sinister and Insidious had their moments....but were not fantastic, scary? Hmmm depends. Insidious was quite jumpy but not awesome by any means, especially the end which ruined the whole film. Same with Sinister...

But an alien horror film....not that often it comes along, well not with all the spooks and "found footage" movies.

Dark Skies has promise.....but well. What can I say. Remember this?

Slowly getting used to life out here in the countryside. The isolation is somewhat soothing - the only people I get to piss off is the guys in the pub next door or my house mates. But nothing seems to piss them off.

I sleep to the sound of a flowing river. Like a never ending stream.

Although girls tell me that it can't be hard for me to find any sort of partner, it's not happening, not out here. Maybe have to travel but then that just makes it difficult. So alone is better.

Books, films, TV shows....they are my friends now. The internet is my most prized item.

Forward To Death

I used to live with this girl who was really afraid of death. I kinda thought that was a terrible thing because it's one of the things you cannot avoid, along with getting sick and old.

According to certain philosophies you can only live one you accept your death. The Samurai code tells us this and there are certain Buddhist monks that trains by meditating in a cave with dead bodies - just to realise that it's a process of life that cannot be avoided. By anyone.

I can remember when I was a kid, talking to my Dad about death and the like. Now he's a religious man with a quite unshakable faith but at the same time willing to consider and question ie: not a crazy nut. His philosophy was that everything was the plan, if a tiger came into your house, it's the plan. No fear.

Imagine if the whole world could just accept who they were and what happened. Even death.

I'M THE PUSHER

Been watching a lot of TV and stuff recently, finally got into that BREAKING BAD that I've heard so much about, yeah that's taking a while to pick up but it's totally ok right, kills the time.

But my revelation was finding out that they had remade "Pusher". Now Pusher is a series of Danish films that were kinda popular in Sweden - there are three and each focus on a different person but are all linked.

The first Pusher movie came out a long time ago, at least around 10 years so I was interested to see an English speaking remake of it.

The movie was exactly the same, just English.....if I had to pick holes I would say that the sheer desperation of the main dude in the Danish version was not as well portrayed in this version.

One of the best things was keeping the dealer man, the kingpin Milo - played by the same actor as the original series.

But what's cool? For a start the new VOIVOD album "Target Earth" is worth your while if you are a fan.

Some of us, maybe myself included think that the band reached their apex with the NOTHINGFACE album...well, Target Earth is like the next part! It's got "Nothingface" written all over it. Great album.

The added bonus was Kenisia playing too, one of the bands that were a staple.

So, Ian Watkins, singer of the Welsh band LostProphets (who honestly I have not heard hide nor hair from since about 10 years ago but then I've not been looking) has been arrested on pedo charges.

Now bear in mind that I don't know any facts, just what the interwebz tells me but let me just air a few things...

He hasn't apparently been charged with DOING anything. He was "conspiring" to rape a girl, one paper said she was "under 13" another said that she was "one year old" - obviously that is under 13 yes but still, what is this? A Serbian Film?

He apparently also has a collection of porn and animal porn. The exact phrase used was "possessing, making and distributing indecent images"....

Porn? I mean, people who make porn do that all the time right? Nothing about them being underage there. Oh and "extreme" animal porn but again, that stuff is not hard to come by I mean I worked in a sex shop in Sweden and you can get it off the shelf there on DVD.

So anyway my take here is that we're kinda coming down a bit hard before we've gathered the facts and of course he's gonna be tarred with the Savile-Stick now even if his only crime is having a bit of iffy porn and talking about shagging a baby. How serious that is we don't yet know.

A theory of mine is that since LostProphets have done fuck all for ages they might be trying to get back into the public eye - first Watkins makes a sex tape, that didn't work, so he goes for the Jacko approach. Just a thought, take it as you will.

My take, even though I think he looks like a complete tool and his music is a big bag of wank - lets get all the facts straight first. This is some one's life we're playing with here.

Reading this? Good, then you know that we're not all dead yet. Stupid bloody media. So lets go over the latest "end of the world" not to happen.

So, for some reason someone started a rumor that it was going to be the end of the world, or a huge global change, based upon the Mayan Calender. Some call it the "Mayan Prophecy" but there was no prophecy. All it was was what was thought to be the end of their calender. Apparently not even that is accurate.

Mayans themselves feels this misrepresents their culture and say that there is nothing at all to suggest any of this.

Now most of us know this but a lot of hippy-dippy new agers are calling it the end of something and the start of something else.

Bull (cough) Shit.

Nothing is going to happen, nothing is happening, in fact anyone who is a bit of a dippy hippy mate of mine (yeah I've got lots, deal with it, I do) can't give me any straight answers apart from "energies" and "cosmic stuff" etc.

Planetary alignment? Do me a lemon.

This is from Griffith Observatory. You know, people with big telescopes that actually know stuff about stars and planets and not just "today one 12th of the population might have something good happen". So, no line up at all. As you can see Venus and Mercury are kinda getting there, shift over Saturn a bit and you got it. But not from the earth so....

Oh and you also can't see "Planet Nibiru"!!!! (the planet said to crash into the earth by some) why? Because this is the closest you will get to Planet Nibiru:

People have claimed that the Gummerment are covering up this planet, and it has been predicted by conspiracy theorists and other wishy-washy types to hit in June this year, and September...and it didn't. Meanwhile actual scientists and astronomers say "it's not real". I think the proof is in the lack of pudding.

Now...I also had someone give me some "news" about a planetary alignment that happened on Dec 3 this year. Apparently Orions belt lined up with the Pyramids! Now I don't know how many of you are familiar with the theory (called the "Orion Correlation" or sometimes "Giza-Orion Theory") that the pyramids were built to line up with these stars anyway. Apparently they kind of do. So that's actually nothing new, furthermore the "news" called Orions Belt "the planets Mercury, Venus and Mars"......

Well here's my theory. I'm writing this now on Dec 20th 2012, 14.07. It will publish midday tomorrow and I will bet you anything that absolutely NOTHING has happened or changed.

If we want a global shift in thought - we gotta bring it ourselves and stop trusting it to a giant Oreo or the goddess of the paisley pyjamas.

The new agers call us "non-believers" (that's their term for people who use logic and actual science) the indoctrinated. That the media is lying to us to cover up what's really gonna happen. Yeah, that's probably right, nothing about 2012 has ever been in the mainstream media.

The Big Bang Theory used to be so damn good. Most of you will agree that it was really niched for the geek. The jokes were very "in" and that's kinda what I loved about it, crazy to think it's from the same people as Two & a Half Men....

But then I think some bigwigs somewhere must have looked at viewing figures and saw that the demographic was single men in their mid 20s-30s and said "we gots to get us some wimmin!" And then it all became about love and relationships and stuff and much less about hiding money in Green Lanterns ass.

Sometime around season 4 I switched off, wasn't funny anymore. But then I stumbled upon some of the latest season (6) and found myself doing a wee with laughter. It was back!

Still With Limbs

So some of you might know the band AMPUTATED.

One of the UKs leading and most brutal gore-grind-death-slam bands. And TV stars. Last year singer Mark left to start up Disfortune (go check out) and a bit later guitarist Oli left (commitments to ENT) and their bassist.

Well, since I have known guitarist Daryl since forever when I heard that they were looking for a new singer I thought I might try and give it a go. After listening to the albums I thought "no way I can do that" so I left it.

Moving back to Clevedon and catching up with Daryl for a few beers he suggested that I should try out for the guitarist slot. So of course that would have been awesome and I got learning.

After a while though I knew how stiff the competition was and decided to not go for it and let someone better and more deserving, and that it did. You see, it was lots of fun to learn the songs and play through them but at the same time I kinda thought that although it was awesome music it wasn't 110% what I wanted to be doing, and it was going to be the sort of band I would need to be committed to and well, I'm just to old and laid back these days.

Much better that someone that really wants to play for them gets in. Anyway - here's part of my audition tape!
