Every summer we love going on a family road trip to someplace we have never been to! We have been doing this for the last few years and it really helps us escape the 110+ degree Las Vegas heat for a few days. A week off helps us relax, rejuvenate and get us ready for the upcoming chaotic school year. I thought I’d share some things I’ve discovered and learned over the course of planning road trips.

Tip #1: Vehicle Maintenance

My first tip is the most important (in my eyes) for any type of road trip that you are thinking of taking, you want to make sure your vehicle is up for the trip. The last thing you want is to be in the middle of nowhere and your car breaks down. I always take which ever car I will be taking on my road trip in to get the oil changed and a once over by a professional to make sure its road trip ready. In preparation for our trip, I took our truck to our local Walmart’s Automotive Care Center (find yours here) to get the oil changed.

Going to Walmart to get our truck serviced, I was able to get in some clothes shopping for when my boys go back to school. Robert, the technician, recommended that I put Pennzoil Platinum®: Full Synthetic Motor Oil with PurePlus Technology since both of my vehicles are under 75,000 miles. Both Pennzoil Platinum®: Full Synthetic Motor Oil with PurePlus Technology and Pennzoil® High Mileage Vehicle® are on Rollback ($39.88 on Rollback to $35.88) until September 28th. Who doesn’t like saving on vehicle maintenance?!?!

Tip #2: Budgeting

I like to plan our summer road trips almost a year ahead. Okay confession time, I usually am planning it in my head while I am still on the current years vacation. This gives me enough time to research how much I will need to save/budget for the trip and if we really can afford it.

Some questions you will need to know:

How much will you spend on gas?

Will you be staying in a hotel? Are you camping, if so what are fee on the camp ground? Are you staying in any hotels in-between home and your destinations, and on the way back?

How much will you spend on food?

Will you be going to any theme parks? Or any attractions?

What is your wiggle room budget like? It’s always safe to have an emergency fund saved up as well for road trips, they are road trips after all!

Once you have all of these questions answered, then you can start setting that money aside!

Tip #3: Plan Ahead.

Now that your vacation budget has been set and you know where you are going! Now it’s time to plan your trip.

When are you leaving? Does anyone need to take time off from work?

Who is going with you?

What hotels or camp grounds are you staying at?

What stops are you taking along the way? Will you be staying the night there?

If you have pets, who will be watching them?

Are you attending any theme parks? Which days will you be there?

Do you know all the gas stations or rest stops along the way?

Where will you be eating, have you looked at restaurants where you are going yet? Or along the way?

Will you need to do any laundry while you are on vacation?

Tip #4: Packing

Now it’s time to pack! Everything for your vacation has been books for months and your only days away from leaving on this vacation you have been planning, for what seems like FOREVER! What are you needing to do before you leave? Do you need to drop the dogs off at the sitters? When are you taking your vehicle to get serviced? Have you cleaned the house? Yes I love coming home to a clean house. Now pack your bags and enjoy your vacation! Have you ran to the store to pick up your road trip snacks?

Have fun and enjoy the trip!

I love living an active and healthy lifestyle. However, there are a few days out to the month when I would rather curl up with my favorite blanket and watch a marathon of my favorite movies … rather than workout. During this time my motivation isn’t there, I feel tubby (seriously I bloat like a whale) and working out is the last thing on my mind. So I have come up with a few tips to help keep you stay active during your period.

Get outside—
Change your scenery, get outside and be one with nature. Go for a hike, the fresh air is good for you! This will brighten your mood and help create a new routine for you.

Stay hydrated—Make sure you drink your water while you are on your period! I have noticed that I get dehydrated when I am about to start my period. When you keep hydrated during your period it actually helps reduce your cramps.

Work out—
Do some light cardio. Just get out and work out! Working out gets you in a good mood too. Although you can exercise like you normally would, you might not be up for the challenge. Exercising helps reduce your period symptoms and helps you get out of your “I’m on my period” funk. Make sure you have a backup workout plan, you just never know what might come up that will prevent you from working out. I keep light weights and workout DVD’s so I have no excuses to not workout.

Supplies—
Keep everything you need at your fingertips! Doesn’t matter if you wear tampons, pads, or both, just make sure you have what you need when you need it. I keep U by Kotex® Click® Tampons (Designed small, protects big), U by Kotex® Barely There Liners (Super flexible, it moves any way you do), U by Kotex® Cleanwear® Pads (Unique 3D Capture Core* with Xpress DRI* cover for crazy fast absorption to help stop leaks) under my sink and keep it stocked up.
Next time your at your local CVS pick up a few packs of your favorite U by Kotex® products.

Create a Period To-Go Pack—
I have made a period pack that I throw in my gym bag stocked with everything I might need when I need it. I took a makeup bag that I have and put my tampons, pads and liners in it! Yup that’s it! Extremely easy and cute at the same time, I love this idea so much that I also made one to keep in my purse.

Don’t let your period stop you from living the active lifestyle you deserve to have. Make sure you have a daily break too, how do you take a daily break while on your period?

Follow U by Kotex®:

Summer is pretty much here in Las Vegas and I want my cat Missy to enjoy the summer heat as much as she can without putting her life in danger. In Las Vegas our Summer daily highs can hit 120 degrees keeping us trapped in the house. I call it the reverse blizzard effect (when the snow keeps you in the house for days at a time). Missy is a member of the family, so her happiness means everything to me. Missy really loves summer so I will be sharing five ways how I keep my cat happy and healthy during the hot months.

My sweet little love! This is her with her favorite stuffed animal, and yes she takes it all over the house with her.

5 Ways To Keep Your Cat Healthy And Happy This Summer

1. Sunlight – I like to leave windows open during the summer so that Missy can sunbathe and soak up all the sun! I have noticed in the past that when she doesn’t get her daily sun she gets depressed and unhappy. She loves to lay out in front of the window to get her Vitamin D for the day. With the open window she gets to sit on the window ledge and bird watch, I just love watching her “yell” at the birds flying by.

2. Cat Toys – I love to treat her with new toys all the time to keep her entertained. She loves the catnip filled toys, it’s like a special treat and a toy all in one. I love her excitement when she plays with her new toys, watching her roll all over the toys and lick them gives me such enjoyment.

3. Create A “Safe” Place – I like to make sure my Missy has a safe place to resort to so when she feels scared she knows that is her “safe zone”. With 4th of July coming and fireworks going off I know she will want to run somewhere for comfort, so I move her bed to my closet where she knows she is safe. Also summer brings parties, guests, sleepovers and people coming over that she might not feel comfortable around yet. Her having that safe zone to go and relax gives this mama peace of mind.

4. Make A Cat Fort – Whenever I get new boxes when I receive shipments in the mail I love to give them to Missy to play in. (There is something about a cat’s obsession with boxes!) I found a tutorial online the other day on how to make a box fort for cats and just had to try it! I took a new box and just covered it with an old shirt of my husband’s (sshhhh he doesn’t know – haha!) … My only edit to the tutorial is that I don’t pin the shirt closed in the back with safety pins or to glue the to the box. Then I can easily remove the shirt to wash it when it gets full of hair, change it out to a newer box, or when the husband finds out I used his shirt I can give it back – heeheehee.

5. Always Have Fresh Water And Food – Like I mentioned before in Las Vegas we get HOT so I like to make sure my animals get the hydration they need. I even keep a bowl of fresh water upstairs for my Missy to always have access to. I decided to make the switch to Purina® Pro Plan® Savor Shredded Blend for my cat food, because I wanted to give her something she would enjoy this summer. Since we have made this switch, Missy is a lot happier about meal time and she lets me know (vocally of course) that I need to refill her bowl with food. I can tell she truly enjoys her new food.

We stopped by our local PetSmart and went in the Cat aisle to pick up two bags of Purina® Pro Plan® Savor® Shredded Blend in Salmon & Rice and Chicken & Rice. PetSmart even welcomes you to bring your pet shopping! Even though I didn’t bring Missy along with me I know that if I decided to she would be welcomed with open arms. The next time I bring her in to get groomed I will be picking up more Purina® Pro Plan® Savor® Shredded Blend for her to enjoy.

Take Advantage of this Coupon at PetSmart: SPEND $15 on any Purina® Pro Plan® product, 5/31–7/5. SAVE $15 on your next purchase of 10.5-lbs. or larger Purina® Pro Plan® Dry Cat or Dog Food or Litter by 7/31.

Working out 5-6 times a week is great for your body but your hair not so much. Between the sweat and having to wash it almost daily takes it toll on your hair. The hot days of summer are fast approaching and if you’re like me, you spend your workouts in the sun or in the pool. Too much time in the sun, in the pool and working out can lead to your hair become dry, fragile and full of split ends causing your hair to look dull and dried out. Thankfully Garnier Whole Blends Smoothing Coconut Oil and Cocoa Butter can help us maintain our gym hair looking amazing!

Today I am sharing how to use Garnier Whole Blends Smoothing shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner and smoothing oil to protect my hair and give it the nutrition it needs!

Preventing dried out hair starts in the shower! What I love most about Garnier Whole Blends Smoothing hair care is the smell, it seriously feels like your being transported to the beach and you don’t even have to leave the bathroom! The fresh scent of coconut puts me in the best summer mood. This formula is rich with the essence of coconut oil and cocoa butter, and makes me feel like I’m always on vacation!

When you work out 5-6 times a week you have to wash your hair almost daily tends to dry it out, makes it frizzy and those evil flyaways happen. This formula is smoothing care for fizz-prone hair but leave my hair light and silky.

Wash your hair with the shampoo and conditioner like you normally would!

I suggest using the leave in conditioner 2 times a week, or every day that you do in the water. After washing your hair add a quarter sized amount in your wet hair (I prefer doing this wet instead of dry) run your fingers through your hair or brush your hair to make sure each strand is covered.

I really enjoyed using the smoothing oil right before I blow dried my hair, made my hair look so silky smooth! I also found that using it right before I head out to the gym, I wouldn’t have that sweaty gym look when I am done with my workout. Adding the oil into my hair before I hit the pool made it that much easier to comb through afterwards.

My go-to gym looks! basic but get the job done! Now I don’t have frizz or flyaways and can look the best I can while working out.

Putting the smoothing oil in my hair, loved that it didn’t make my hands greasy either!

Overall I loved using the Garnier Whole Blends Smoothing hair care system and saw a huge difference in the frizz my hair had, or I should say didn’t have. What is really cool about the Whole Blends line is that they have a ton of different treatments that are specific for your hair care needs! You can check out the entire Whole Blends line, here. Which blend do you want to try? I purchased all four products at my local Walmart on the hair care aisle.

Have you tried Garnier Whole Blends yet?

I work out 5-6 days a week, since I started my fitness journey this last year my life has completely changed. I spend 80% of my day (well I should say life haha) in workout/gym clothes but what I hate it that they smell like sweat, even after I have washed them! So I have put this post together filled with tips on how to prevent the sweat smell from your cloths!

Preventing the sweat smell from your workout clothes must be fought from the start!

Right when you get home from the gym hang up your sweaty clothes (I hang them on my shower rod to dry, after I’ve showered) and let them dry. Just as you would let your wet bathing suit or a wet towel dry after its used. Sports bras get a lot of sweat in the elastic band so make sure you hang them up right away to prevent it from smelling. Once they are dry you can put them in your hamper, I have a separate hamper for just workout clothes and wash them together.

NEVER pile your clothes on the floor or in the hamper. Wet, sweaty gym clothes that remain in those piles for too long will actually start to breed mold and mildew spores that can be trapped in the fabric and even with washing it will not remove it.

Wash your clothes with Member’s Mark® Ultimate Clean Liquid Laundry Cleaner, this soap smells so good! I couldn’t believe it and have even gotten compliments at the gym from my trainer on how good my clothes smell. When I told her I got it at Sam’s Club she couldn’t believe it.

Since the cost of gym memberships, new workout clothes and several other things that go with it; I have to look for savings where I can find them. So I started using Member’s Mark® Ultimate Clean Liquid Laundry Cleaner, which performs as well or better than the national leading brand but only costing me a fraction as much.

I appreciate that Member’s Mark was developed with a patented Ultimate Clean Technology that locks on tough stains and lifts them out in all temperature settings. The improved brightening and whitening of Member’s Mark helps keep my clothes looking new. It can also be used for pretreating stains and is HE compatible.

Find Member’s Mark Ultimate Clean Laundry Detergent Fresh Scent or Paradise Splash at Sam’s Club or samsclub.com. Find Member’s Mark Ultimate Clean Laundry Detergent down the laundry aisle.

It’s so important to exercise, and I have become quite the gym rat lately. Being so busy makes it harder to get to the gym but it’s well rewarded in the long run, not only are you getting in some fitness but you are also getting in social time with others and/or alone time too. Having a family, businesses, blog and a million other things to do can be one the biggest hurtles for women struggling to make time for the gym. Another thing is our time of the month.

Once you get into the rhythm of going to the gym and actually making the time to go, it’s often interrupted by our periods.

Exercise and fitness is so important. Not only are their physically benefits like increased energy levels, losing weight, health benefits and then there’s also the added benefit of reducing cramps.

Here are some tips on how you should deal with exercising while on your period, YES the world doesn’t stop just because you are on your period.

First… don’t skip exercise during that time. Exercising during your period is really good for you. Your period can often make you agitated, fatigued, and crampy. Exercise will help with those issues.

When I am at the gym I would like to bring extra supplies with me, I have put this list together to help:

1. Tampons and/or Pads — One of the best ways to survive your period is by selecting from the wide range of U by Kotex® products. The U by Kotex® 3D Capture Core® is my first choice in protection because it quickly draws in and locks away wetness. In order to survive your period while also feeling beautiful and confident a reliable protection is a must, especially at the gym.

You can find U by Kotex products at CVS! Here is a $2.00 coupon at CVS stores: http://cbi.as/zvsg

2. Feminine Wipes or Baby Wipes — Helps make clean up a lot easier when accidents happen, or to just give you that fresh feeling after changing out your pad or tampon… I personally like baby wipes for sensitive skin since it’s gentle to my skin.

3. Pain Reliever — Sometimes you just need something to ease the pain so you can hit your workout hard.

4. Hand Sanitizer — You just never know when you need to sanitize your hands.

5. Plastic Bag & Extra Underwear — Leaks happen and at the gym is where it most likely will happen (since you are moving around so much) so an extra pair of underwear will come in handy. The plastic bag is for your “dirty” underwear and to help make sure it doesn’t contaminate the other items in your gym bag.

6. Makeup or small bag — I found this makeup bag at my local CVS store.

I showed you my favorite products for the gym, now I have a question… what are your must have items to add to your gym bag during your period.

Follow U by Kotex today!

Summer is in full swing and ever since the kids have been out of school I have been on a hunt to save where ever I can. The more I save, the more fun we can have AND spend on food to feed them. First on my list? Check out the Lowest Price Unlimited Plans offered by Walmart Family Mobile.

It turns out Walmart Family Mobile service is $29.88/month (for the first line). They offer an Unlimited Talk, Text & Data service plan which includes up to 1G of 4G LTE data. Not bad and far cheaper than what I’ve been paying.

While I was at my local Walmart picking up stuff for my summer party, I headed over to the Entertainment area to see the different phone choices they have offered and there services. It didn’t take us long to find what I was looking for.

Don’t forget your starter kit!!

I have used LG phones in the past so I knew I would like their products and that they are reliable. So I decided on LG Leon LTE for $99.82. You can then either start your service right in the store or you can head home and do it online. Extremely easy!!!!

The LG Leon LTE is pretty slick and thin, and comes with pretty much everything we need from a phone service. Best part of all, is that by saving money with Walmart Family Mobile we can go on more adventures this summer.

Disclaimer: All prices for phones and plans included in this post are accurate as of the date of posting; however, these prices are subject to change. Please refer to http://cbi.as/8e03 or your local Walmart for current pricing.

Summer has officially started! Summer to me means road trips, I love jumping in the car and exploring the road! I love the mystery, the thrill and not always knowing what we will find! My favorite way to spend time with my family is traveling but the downside to this is keeping up with the demand of attention that the road requires while driving. In comes 5-hour ENERGY® shots to save the day, I have a few stashed in my Summer Road Trip Kit for when I need that extra boost of energy or to help keep me awake and alert while driving those long road trips. I have put together my must haves for summer road trips.

5-hour ENERGY® shots also helps me keep up with my kids who have an endless supply of energy because they have been cooped up in a car for hours at a time.

I love 5-hour ENERGY® shots and have been using this product since they came out a few years ago. At first I didn’t like the taste but when they started making flavors like raspberry, orange, and pomegranate, I enjoyed drinking them! When situations require my full attention this is my “secret weapon”; they are small, smooth and really do work. This product is perfect for my road trip kit.

You can find 5-hour ENERGY® shots at most stores across the US, but my favorite retailer to buy it at is CVS. They always have great sales! When I purchased mine they were buy one get one 50% off (when you purchased the 2-pack). When you buy as many as I do that is a great deal!

TIP: stock up on items like this before you leave on your road trip since they most likely will be more expensive on the road, the gas stations might not carry them or not carry them in the flavors you like. In January while going to Lake Havesu to see my grandma I didn’t bring extra energy shots with me and I had a hard time finding them for my trip back home and had to resort to getting something else.

Reasons why I drink 5-hour ENERGY® shots

There’s zero sugar, carbs, or herbal stimulants

5-hour ENERGY® shots are a dietary supplement that contains a blend of B-vitamins, amino acids, and essential nutrients

Only four calories.

Contain caffeine similar to a cup of coffee!

Here are some basics I never leave without:

Eye Drops – for those times that my eyes get sore, dry from the AC blasting or allergy eyes

Hand Sanitizer – to help keep those hands clean; I have boys that touch everything and anything!

Tissues – to wipe noses and spills

Disinfecting wipes and/or wet wipes – For bathrooms that are less than sanitary, to keep hands clean and to help clean any messes that happen

First Aid Kit – to help with boo-boos because sometimes kisses are just not enough

Headache medicine – because traveling with kids cause headaches! I feel like a ref for over half of the time on the road “stop touching each other”

Gum and mints – to help when going through different altitudes, I just hate when my ears pop or feel “clogged”

Sunscreen – to prevent burns while driving and can grab easily when you stop to let the kids run around and play to burn all that extra energy they have! For long trips I do this.

Chapstick – AC tends to dry out your lips. I pack a few because I always lose them and I also have a few stashed in my car just in case I do lose them (or it’s because they were lost and I found them in the car)

Lotion

Energy Shots – for me to keep up with the rest of the family! I bring enough for my husband and me to last us a few days. He loved the grape one and my favorite is the raspberry one.

Books, activity books and word searches – to help keep the kids and the passenger entertained just don’t forget the pens and pencils, I love doing word searches I just can’t do them from the driver’s seat –HA

Roadside assistant and emergency numbers – always be prepared for everything and anything that can or may happen

Phone chargers – always keep your phone charged, you never know what you will encounter

Snacks – to help curve appetites while driving so you don’t have to make as many stops. I bring something for everyone. I bring the exact same amount of snacks for the kids so I don’t have World War 3 in the back seat because one got the snack the other one wanted, it is really hard to play ref while driving. I like to bring nuts or protein bars for me and some meat sticks for my husband. I don’t bring any chocolate because that stuff melts and that just is no fun.

Drinks – WATER!!! I bring a lot of water on trips. I like to pack a cooler with ice or frozen water bottles to keep the drinks nice and cold. I love my 5-hour ENERGY® shots cold so I pop them in the cooler to keep them nice and cold. **if you are bringing animals make sure you pack enough water for them too

Little trashcan or some trash bags – to keep the trash collected and I always keep some bags (or motion sickness bags) in the storage pouches that are behind the front seats just in case one of the kids gets car sick… because one of them ALWAYS does.

Blankets and neck pillows – depending on how long the trip is I like to bring these things to help make every one sleep more comfortable

Others:
*GPS – if you don’t have one I recommend on getting one
*Tablets or in-car/portable DVD players – to keep the kids entertained
*CDs, Playlist, Satellite radio, etc. – because a good music just makes a road trip that much better
*Camera – to take pictures while on the road
*Cash – some places only take cash and with no ATMs in sight that might be an issue
*Flashlights

Ahi is such a buttery lovely fish when eaten raw, that it doesn’t need much. I added soy sauce, a touch of sesame oil, sesame seeds, some green onions and avocado. Are you asking what is Ahi Poke and the best way I can describe, well how the waiter explained it to be when I first ordered it, that it’s like a raw tuna salad.

The add-ins are endless really and use your own personal judgment with measurements. I like mine with avocado and I have seen and eaten them with red onions, sea weed, ginger, jalapenos, and garlic. I’ve seen some poke with red onion or with avocado and different types of sea weed and ginger. My only advice is that to let the tuna shine so don’t let the flavorings overpower the fish, but just enhance it the flavor of it.

Ingredients

1 lb ahi tuna, cut into cubes

3-4 Tb soy sauce, I used low sodium

2 green onion, chopped

1 Tb sesame oil

1 Tb sesame seeds

1 avocado, cut into cubes

Instructions

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Have you had this before? How do you like it?
