One of our newer customers is the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. One of the idea they came up with is promoting their participating mobile advertisers in co-op ads in the Wednesday edition.

A great way to get more opt-ins for these businesses and also to promote the service to other businesses to get mobile.

InSequent is currently deployed, or in the process of being deployed, in the above markets around the US. We are in the process of more than doubling the number within a month or so.

We are also building a suite of training and marketing tools to support our valued channel partners.

What's next for InSequent?

We have big plans for the coming months. Up til now we have spent a lot of time on our Product, which we will continue to do. But we are adding resources which allows us to do more and get better. That means we will also work on another P, Process.

Specifically our process for on-boarding and servicing our customers.

We have a lot of really great customers now who have been patient with us as we continue to build the product and work through occasional bugs. We know how important mobile is to them and that they can lose a customer if we mess up. We'll be launching a Help desk/ticketing system so we can more rapidly respond to and track any problems or questions.

We also know that in many cases this is a new product for our customers and they need to integrate it with their other digital offerings and present it cohesively on their calls. We're working hard on product and sales training materials, best practices and building data which makes the case for mobile.

Our Resource Center will become the "go to" spot for all of this. User Guides, training materials, pitch decks, video tutorials, FAQ, Release Notes, Best Practices, shared collateral (customers sharing what works) and more will all be there.

And the product? Version 3 is only the beginning. After tonight's release we will plan the next 4 releases. The next of which comes in just two weeks. I will outline what's coming in those in a future post.

Note: If you dont recognize the image, it is the logo from Next Computer, a company founded by Steve Jobs after he resigned from Apple. He later sold it to Apple.

The Year of the Smart Phone

I couldnt agree more with Marc Andreeson's (founder of Netscape, Managing Director of Andreeson Horowitz) comment the other day on the adoption of smart phones. He said "in 2012 feature phones are going to vanish out of the developed world and over five years they'll vanish out of the developing world."

Think about it, the other day I went to Best Buy and got myself a $500 Galaxy S for...wait for it...Free! Just added it to my existing plan. Huge screen, massive Android App store, great camera, awesome phone. Free phones abound, at least here in the US and I suspect in most of the rest of the "developed" world. Anyone buying a feature phone today is in the very small minority and this will only increase rapidy this year and in the years to come.

Thus I can say we never have and certainly never will, design for the feature phone. To quote once again the hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, when asked to explain his record-breaking success - "I skate to where the puck is going."
