I've never had a thing for quotes but something Alexander Wang said a couple of years back kinda hit home for me. He said something along the lines of how "Anyone can get dressed up and glamorous but it is how people dress in their days off that are the most intriguing". And I totally had to agree with this one - Anyone can dress their best and preen and exhibit themselves up for a special occassion but it is what you wear everyday that defines your style. Looking sassy on the five days of fashion week doesn't mean you are a stylish person, but rather what you chose to wear in daily life while doing normal, workaday things(working, to uni, while running errands etc.) really does. For that reason, on this blog, I mainly try to post outfits of what I actually wear in my daily life, rather than just shoot super styled outfits put together for the sole purpose of sharing them on the blog.

Anyway, now moving away from the (fairly elaborate) side note above, these pix were taken one morning after a delish breakfast near the harbour in Sydney. The Sydney chill finally allowed me to wear these ridiculously cool Gail Sorronda flares. I love how they make me look like I'm a foot taller than I actually am :D. Tasfia dressed down my Ksubi alter dress by wearing it as a top with her favourite boyfriend jeans and blazer.

When it comes to femininity in terms of fashion, in my mind, I categorize 'feminine' into two very different groups. Firstly, there is that preppy or very girly kind of feminine represented by sweetheart necklines, floral prints, lace, frills and full flouncy skirts. The second kind of feminine in my mind relates to a more modern, sexy and sleek kind of feminine, which AJE pretty much epitomizes - this is the kind of feminine we love. This AJE leather beauty is one of Tasfia's favourite LBDs - leather + that neckline + that hemline and that back detail is what makes it perfection . Plus its warrior princess vibes definitely earns it some major points in my books too.
PS: We are not in Sydney at the moment - these were taken last month while we were back there, before breakfast on Oxford St.

These pix were taken when we were back in Sydney, on a day spent looking for the perfect winter jacket. I layered two simple repetitive printed pieces on top of one another - firstly, my Martine Rose body suit which is actually quite difficult to wear - If the weather is too cold, you'll need to layer it with a jacket and then hide the radness of the sleeves. If it even a little warm, its lycra-esque texture will scorch you in the sun and (I'm guessing) bring upon a grossly uncomfortable sweat. The rainy weather we had in Sydney just so happened to be perfect for its wear though. I paired with my new Camilla and Marc lipped vest. I'm not usually a Camilla and Marc shopper - although their designs are amazing, I feel that their silhouettes cater to a more feminine (and sometimes more mature) audience than myself. However, this vest definitely has the kind of simple whimsy that always draws me in!

All white outfits can easily fall flat and so Tasfia and I seldom wear them. However, incorporating textural elements and patterns into an all white outfit can be a really fun way to do it - like with this take. I'm a bit impressed at the lightning speed with which I've made this post - I didn't want you folks to miss out on the super amazing Threadbare pop-up store in Brisbane for the next two days. Bright and early this morning, Tas, our blogger buds and I went to the super cute Threadbare blogger breakfast. Not only were we treated to delicious delights of the sweet, chocolatey and fruity varieties, but we also had the chance to browse Threadbare's rad collections. Also, we had a sneak peak at the cool, new and improved threadbare site. We also had a play and tried on some of our favourite pieces. This always a dangerous endeavour because it is how most of my major addictions/compulsions begin!
Threadbare stocks sooo many of my favourite designers including Australian heavyweights like Josh Goot, Ellery and Dion Lee but also stocks some really unique and interesting designers that (in Australia) are almost exclusive to Threadbare. My have of these is the label Hyde, which puts a more chic and affordable twists on one of the most indulgent fabrics around - leather.
Also, after talking to the Threadbare girls and viewing all the pieces I really appreciated that Threadbare doesn't seek to stock the most sellable, common (boring) silhouettes that you find on most online stores. Even for the 'big' designers, Threadbare stocks pieces that I haven't seen anywhere else. It was so refreshing to come across a store that doesn't compromise their aesthetic for sell-ability.
Anyway, you Brisbane folk should definitely check out the pop-up store some time over the next few days - prices of last season's stock is seriously slashed. And everyone else, if you don't want to miss out on the fun, check out the store online!

I know that most of us love animals in some way or another. But my love for animals has been so compelling that it drove me to majoring in zoology at University. Snakes happen to be one of my favourite critters. I don't mean to overly anthropomorphize, but I love how sleek, cool and contained they usually are but also that on the other pole, they have this very sophisticated kind of ferocity while fangs ajar. So I guess you can understand how much love I have for Stolen Girlfriend Club's Hiss print this season. Acid yellow + snakes = match made in heaven!

Whenever I'm asked where I'd like to move away to overseas after I finish my studies, I'm always a bit put aback. Whenever I travel, no matter how glamorous and beautiful the places I visit are, I always feel slightly homesick. Despite the ample fun I have on my vacations, I always feel a little more at ease when I return home. As a matter of fact, there is probably no other place in the world I'd like to live in more than Australia. I don't know whether its a genuine love or just conditioning but there are so many aspects of Aussie culture that makes me appreciate that I live here. I love our general carefree attitude to life, the barbeques, the Anzac biscuits and particularly, the beach culture - particularly living in Queensland. During the warmer months, the seaside is one of my favourite places to be, particularly during the hour before sunset when the sun is low, the light is golden and there is a slight cold bite to the air - these pix were taken on one such time, last month while we were in Sydney, during what was probably our last beach visit for a long time. Tas and I dressed simply, each wearing one of our favourite t-shirt + shorts combos...

These pix were taken during a lazy Saturday morning, after breakfasting in Teneriffe. Being well into Autumn now, the mornings are getting cooler, bringing about the opportunity to wear some of our favourite outerwear. I wore my new favourite staple, this delightful Stylestalker bomber jacket. Besides having this rad baroque-esque floral embroidery, it is the perfect autumn bomber. Bombers have always been my favourite kind of outerwear but most of them are pretty thick and bear-like which renders them unwearable during the milder autumn months. However, this light bomber is perfect for the slight chills of autumn and also serves as a legit waist accessory when the day warms up around midday. I'm also wearing this beautiful SOOT Echoe Pleat Dress. I love the subtle earthiness of the dress and how although it having a typically feminine silhouette, it isn't really too girly for me at all. Oh yes, I'm wearing my rad AM eyewear 'Ally Jean' shades again. They haven't left my face all week!

This is what I wore during a recent burger hang with the twinnie. It had been eons since I'd worn an (almost) fully black outfit but over the weekend, I kind of felt line toning it down and going back to black. I wore my (now) favourite pair of shades, these classic wayfarers by AM Eyewear. I used to wear these sunglasses to death last year until I lost them but now I am super glad to have a replacement pair. I centered my outfit around this cool printed tank by RYWS that makes me feel reminiscent of one of my fave Givenchy collections :D

Day four - our final day at fashion week (we flew back on the Friday morning). I've kinda been trying to stall posting my fashion week posts because I really don't want you to feel even more bombarded by fashion week related pictures that have taken over all forms of social media for the last few weeks - whether it be runway shots, outfit shots, or behind the scenes ones. It is pretty much still 80% of my instagram stream. Particularly if you were at fashhun week yourself, you may've tired of seeing endless shots of the same shows and the same outfits. But I decided to share my recount with you anyway, to share the experience through my perspective, so begging your pardon if I'm being repetitive! So day four, also known as my third day as a self-imposed Emma Mulholland poster girl (Yes, someone did actually call me that - this was my third day in a row wearing Emma Mulholland). During the week I came across ALOT of people who had planned their outfits to the smallest details weeks and weeks ahead and felt they had to wear the newest season pieces. What I didn't like about this was I felt that maybe some people were taking this all too seriously. Sure, fashion is liberating and can be used to express and represent your inner self (and all that shiz) but I think it is something that should be a bit spontaneous and not be over-thought about, and just be enjoyed.Although I packed clothing thinking that they'd be pieces that I could wear to fashion week, I mostly wanted to wear clothes that I've worn many times over and that are really 'me'. So planning my outfits pretty much came down to wearing what I felt like at morning from the limited things I had in my suitcase - and I totally felt like nothing more than wearing Emma Mulholland over and over and over!! :D xxx

I've had a bit too much free time on my hands recently, and so Tas and I have been trying to make the most of it before our lives become super busy again (although our bank accounts haven't been too obliging). During the weekend, we went on one of our typical James St hangs and indulged a bit at one of our favourite joints. Tasfia wore this beautiful Maurie and Eve top from the FW13 Reflections collection. I love how extremely electric blue the colour is and its baroque embroidery feeds perfectly into our new baroque print/pattern obsession. Also, on a side note, how great is this trans-seasonal weather at the moment?! - sunny, warm but with a bit of a cold bite to the air - still shorts/mini skirt wearable but long sleeve permissible too!

In Sydney earlier this month, the week before fashion week was wholly devoted to kicking of our heels and relaxing, unwinding (and indulging a bit). These pictures were taken after some amazing seafood by the harbour, during an on and off rainy day, and so we pretty much had to capture these pix in 4 minutes or less to avoid getting drenched.
I wore my new Sarah Phillips Iris skirt. I've been keen to get this rad skirt since I first laid my eyes on the new collection but I just couldn't commit to it. I've never been a huge online shopper because you can never tell how something looks exactly, fits or how to style it just by seeing it online on a super tall and lean model. For that reason, I tend to buy most of my pieces in store - So when I saw/tried on this skirt at Capital L Boutique, I knew I had to make it mine!
Typically, I'd be drawn to the colourful version of this skirt, but this time round, the black and while version was right on my wavelength. I major in Zoology and evolutionary genetics at Uni and so this print really reminds me of early sketches of fossilized life, and all the wierd and wonderful aquatic fossils found during the Cambrian explosion = just so so rad :D

Day two of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. I still had a mixed bag of feelings about the fashion week paradigm but I gotten a lot more used to it. I went to more shows, went to after parties and had a decent amount of fun with my fashion week buds. I also encountered some eye-poppingly good revelations at two of my most anticipated shows, Kahlo and Aje.

Monday. Day I of fashion week. This year being the first year we made it to fashion week, I had all kinds of preconceived ideas about what MBFWA would be like. Day one happened to be overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time. We didn't really go to many shows and yet it was somehow tiring. At the same time though, there was something thrilling about being caught up in the whole fashion week atmosphere. Now with three days of the week past, I feel like the whole fashion week paradigm has really started to grow on me... Here are pix of our outfits from the two halves of day I. ALIGNMENT

Since getting to Sydney last weekend, the first non-shopping/non-touristy thing we've gotten up to is previewing Gary Bigeni's SS13.14 'Alignment' Collection. I've always been a huge Gary Bigeni fan. I always dig how his elements have a classic feminine vibe mixed with a whimsical element. Plus his drapery and cuts are always so damn clever. His new collection is definitely my favourite yet and a bit of a suprise to me because of the explosion of colour. I love the superimposition of the polka dots on polka dots (I have a not so secret polka-dot fetish), the geometric yet not so geometric puzzle-like pattern and also the candy colour pallettes are deliciously delightful. I can't wait until this collection hits the stores :)

Here are some very quick shots from yesterday's frolicking - Tasfia and I are in Sydney at the moment to relax and unwind a bit during our easter break and before fashion week next week. We haven't visited Sydney in almost three years and so I'm enjoying getting a bit touristy. Today I plan on heading out and doing what I do best - Shopping! :D

With the cooler weather quickly settling in, Tas and I realised that this week is probably one of our last chances to hit the beach. So yesterday afternoon, we had a nice little chilled hang at the beach. Tasfia wore her perfect new Aje white leather skirt. We've been looking for that perfect white leather skirt for eons now. We've had our eyes on so many different ones but we haven't been able to commit to any of them until we saw this beautiful number at the Aje sale last week. Another small slice of perfection in this outfit is the Knots and Knits clutch that Tasfia is sporting. I love how this little knotted beauty can add a pop of colour to any outfit and I love the textural element it adds too.

SCOTCH AND SODA

Usually delish food would've been enough to get me on board, but at the Scotch and Soda event last week, it didn't need to! Our delightful night began with a showing of the rad new Scotch and soda tent concept store in Westfield Carindale. Afterwards we shifted our party to Stokehouse, not only for some gastronomic wonders but also to preview their amazing new collection. There are so many pieces in the new collection I've feel I gotta have, particularly the delightful animal print!

Although I don't quite believe in little green men or that alien abduction/probing fluff I've always felt fascinated by the possibility of extraterrestrial life and particularly their many different representations in history and popular culture. Part for that reason and partly for its general radness, the new 'Spaced Out' Emma Mulholland collection feels right on my wavelength. I've already bought three pieces from the collection and I want more!

POP-UP AJE

There is one thing more pleasing to the ears than the words pop-up sale, and that is hearing the words ' pop-up sale' and 'AJE' together in a sentence. Tasfia and I spent last night at the VIP evening for AMAAZING Aje popup store at Haut Boheme. I've got to say that I had a pretty hard time keeping my eyeballs in my head because the clothing pieces/prices were too good/ridic to be true. I felt super satisfied returning home with my dream dress in my bag but I still don't think I can do without visiting the sale again soon! Brisbane folk, I'd check out the sale ASAP if I were you because I have a feeling that stocks won't last long!

Most prints seem to be just seasonal. They owe themselves to a trend of a particular season. Everyone wears it to death that season (including yours truly) and then after the season is over, you never want to lay eyes on that print again. For that reason, and being a huge print lover, I always try to invest in the most unique and inventive prints which transcend seasonality. This August Street ensemble (Tas is wearing) and this double Emma Mulholland ensemble that I'm wearing are just that - but in two very different ways. "PHAROAH-NUFF"

It has been raining non-stop for the last few days over here and so I've seldom had the chance to take decent outfit shots. But on the weekend, we each wore our favourite new outfits which (rain or shine) were too good not to share with you :D. I wore my rad, new Emma Mulholland "Pharoah-nuff"raglan sweater. This sweater is a piece that I felt I couldn’t bear to miss out on and so I preordered it as soon I could! I can't wait to get my hands on a couple more pieces from this 'Extra-terrestrials meet the Ancient Egyptians' inspired AW13 collection!
Tasfia is wearing three of her closet newbies together - my favourite of these being her amaaaazing new Ariel de Pinto sandals.
