AUDIO QUALITY

When it comes to audio quality, the Cleer ALLY PLUS II does NOT deliver the best performance I have heard from a wireless earbud but it was probably one of the most well balanced experiences. The 10mm dynamic driver produces rich, balanced sound, with a tight bass response and clear, detailed highs. The earbuds’ ability to reproduce a wide frequency range allows for an immersive and engaging listening experience. Whether you’re enjoying your favorite tunes or diving into a podcast, the audio quality of the Cleer ALLY PLUS II is impressive.

As for its Active noise cancellation (ANC) it does a decent job and its snug fit and seal of the earbuds helped reduce external noise even further compared to others, but overall it may not be to effective in extremely noisy environments but would work well for flights, going to the gym or most coffee shops.

EASE OF USE

Its very intuitive touch controls and seamless pairing process, the Cleer ALLY PLUS II earbuds offer a user-friendly experience. Now, picture this: I had the chance to put it to the test during my recent business trip to CES 2023. And let me tell you, it’s an impressive and well-crafted keyboard case that essentially transforms your iPad into a laptop, with a few limitations that I hope ESR will address.

Let’s take a look at the specifications, just to get that out of the way:

Closer Look

Now, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty of build quality and performance, like a no-nonsense critic.

Pros:

• The overall feel and functionality was great. It gave me the complete computer experience during my entire trip, sparing me from lugging around a bulky notebook. For those that attend many of these know what I am talking about.
• The trackpad did its job decently. Some may wonder why bother with a trackpad on a tablet, but it came in handy when editing some files.
• The keyboard keys were acceptable, but sometimes a bit finicky. I had afew times when the keys were getting stuck but eventually worked its self out.
• It’s Apple Pencil friendly
• It even survived a few falls like a champ, ensuring my precious iPad remained safe. Although, I must admit, it did shift a little, which made me a tad nervous. Maybe ESR should consider creating an ESR Project Zero Soft Case, that is compatible with the rebound making it a a superhero sidekick that provides an extra layer of protection.

Cons:

• Now, the keyboard. The most crucial part of any keyboard case, right? Well, as I sadly mentioned before, it had a few issues. The keys use a scissor-switch mechanism, and I had a few sticky key situations that left me frowning during my trip. Not a deal-breaker as it eventually worked its self out, but definitely worth mentioning.
• Personally, I’d prefer if the keyboard didn’t require separate charging. You know, like Apple’s Smart Keyboard Folio, which sips power from the iPad itself while charging.

Installation:

Step 1: Align the camera with the case opening, and let the magnets work their magic.

Step 2: Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. It’s as simple as that.

Now, let’s answer the ultimate question: Can this replace a laptop?

Well,let me put it this way, it did a pretty good job as a temporary laptop replacement during my trip. But let’s not get carried away here, as a main PC, it falls a bit short. It’s still a tablet, after all, and it can’t quite keep up with the big boys of the laptop world. Sorry, iPad Pro, you’re good, but you’re not laptop-good.

In today’s review, we will now take a look at NOMADs updated MagSafe Modern Leather Folio version.

BUILD QUALITY:

As with the NOMAD Rugged iPhone 12 Pro Max case we previously reviewed the build quality is very impressive and I have to be honest, I have become a big fan of NOMAD products. I always worry about leather cases as I have had tons of issues with leather cases in the past but I think its NOMADs attention to detail and use of quality products like Horween leather that make difference. As usual from NOMAD the quality is above average.

INSTALLATION AND PERFORMANCE:

The installation process is like any other case and easily slips onto the iPhone. The bumper does have a small edge large enough to protect the glass but not large enough to interfere with a screen protector.

As for performance, it’s a great case. We did a few drop tests at different heights including one at 10ft and it held up very well. It got a few minor scrapes on the leather but it still looks great. Now it is rated to protect against a 10ft drop, and depending on how it falls if dropped just right I can see it still causing some damage. The folio lid helps to protect the screen further, but we can see it possibly being an issue depending on if the lid flips open while falling

CAN THIS HELP REPLACE A WALLET?

I have to start by saying this is NOT a good wallet replacement for those who carry a full wallet. The folio does have space for a few bills and even though you could squeeze in 6 cards in the 3 slots, I wouldn’t recommend it as 3 cards and a few bills already make the folio lid feel a little thick. Now, don’t get me wrong. For some, this may be a perfect fit, as I normally only carry a bi-fold wallet with the bare minimum and this was a perfect replacement. The transition to only using the folio for me was very easy and would also work great for those who just want a place to put emergency cash, and frequently used cards.

Again, if you are a “Normal” wallet user this is not a replacement to your wallet but more of an addition. I know many who could definitely take advantage of this in conjunction with their already full wallet.

Suggested improvements:

Like apple cases, I wish it had a larger bumper around the camera lens to add a little more protection. The protection around the rear camera is great and would prefer a little more of a lip for added protection.

The most important improvement would be to add some kind of magnet to secure the folio lid to the screen. I have had several instances where the lid is closed but the phone screen remains on as light still filters through. It could also address an issue where the lid flapping around and accidentally turns the screen on.

CONCLUSION

As usual, NOMAD does not disappoint, the case held up well. My day-to-day was the previously reviewed NOMAD Rugged iPhone 12 Pro Max case and I have now made the switch to the Nomad Folio as it doesn’t only protect my case but helps me reduce the amount of stuff I carry as it has pretty much replaced my wallet. NOMAD still has to make some minor improvements. For example, make it make the bumper around the camera lens slightly larger, and have some kind of lid locking mechanism (Please don’t add a strap. If anything a magnet would be best or leave it as is).

BUILD QUALITY:

The NOMAD Rugged iPhone 12 Pro Max case is surprisingly impressive. I have to be honest, I am normally not a huge fan of leather as I have had some bad experiences with leather cases in the past but this time around I am pleasantly surprised. NOMAD uses Horween leather which I think maybe the difference. This would be my first Horween leather case and I am excited to see how it wears and builds a patina. As for the build quality of the rest of the case. You can tell a lot of thought went it to the materials used from the Polycarbonate frame, External rubber TPE bumperInternal shock absorption bumper, to the Protective microfiber lining. every aspect of this case screams quality.

NOMAD still has to make some minor improvements for example, make it MagSafe ready and make the bumper around the camera lens slightly larger to provide more protection.

Unpacking

The FI24D was shipped in a standard brown box, with custom Viotek black graphics. Nothing flashy but at this price point I am not surprised. I might’ve preferred to be packed in a bigger box with more padding or cushioning. However, after opening box, the monitor itself had a thick styrofoam custom molded on to the monitor which provided more than adequate protection during shipping. Design

When I look at the Viotek FI24D 24″ monitor, the first thing that pops into my head is simplicity, like most monitors it is made of a matte black plastic but you see details in the back where they at least try to give it a clean elegant look. The fairly thin bezels and black finish make it seem perfect for a home or office space. Bezels are thin enough that it can be used as a dual monitors and easily be used side by side without it interfering too much.

On the back of the monitor we have 4 VESA mounting holes for mounting the monitor to the wall, and a monitor stands consisting of a stem and a base, which can be attached to the back of the monitor giving you an extra 3.8″ of height adjustment. The monitor stand can be tilted 5° forward or 15° backward. Although the monitor stand seems stable, I did notice the monitor is a bit extra wobbly whenever the desk is slightly bumped into, just enough for me to take notice, but no big issue, you can always go the VESA mount route which I see many doing with this anyway.

To adjust menu settings on the Viotek FI24D, there are 5 buttons located below the logo that can help navigate through your desired OSD settings, it does take some time to get used to navigating the menu as it feels somewhat complex compared to other monitors. With a wide range of customization options, the menu can be a little overwhelming for most, but does have presets such as ECO mode, Standard, Text, Movie, Game, FPS, and RTS that can be switched too, to optimize your experience based on activity. Also, you can select Game plus modes and choose the best crosshair suited for your shooting game.

All ports are located on the rear bottom left side of the monitor. Here you will see the 2 x HDMI ports, 1 x DisplayPort, and 1 x Audio out port. Extra ports means you can connect other media devices such as gaming consoles or Media boxes such as a FIreTV Stick or Roku.

Performance

On the Viotek FI24D product page, it does state it is a gaming monitor so it is important for me to run some popular video games and put it to the test. Now you will see a noticeable difference compared to the standard 60 Hz refresh rate monitor in smoothness but to be honest most serious gamers will probably opt for a 144Hz monitor. As for colors, the Viotek FI24D held up very well with rich vibrant colors which is to be expected from an IPS panel. IPS panels (In-Plane Switching) provide the most accurate color renditions, best viewing angles and when you do a side by side comparison of a TN or a VA panel you will immediately understand what a difference it makes. This is why IPS panels are usually the panel type of choice for content creators.

As for gaming, I did go a few rounds on Fortnite and was impressed with the gameplay. When viewing monitor through different angles it does not lose luminance and does not shift to different colors on any angle, keeps colors uniform anyway you view the monitor. But, although it did fairly well during our gaming testing, we still would recommend a monitor with at least 144Hz refresh rate.

Like many IPS panel monitors, I found this monitor to be more suitable for photo and/or video editing or even perfect for an office environment. In the end, I would have to say this is a great budget monitor for content creators as it relates to its overall performance.

Pricing

To compare retail pricing, we found comparable models in Acer Nitro VG240YU ($229.99), ViewSonic VG2455-2K ($286.99), and Lenovo L24q-30 ($255.11) all of them being 24″ 1440P IPS 75hz refresh rate monitors. Viotek FI24D ($159.99 on Viotek website)  blows the competition out with excellent value. You get same visual experience as those big name brands without the high cost and a 3 year warranty to back it up.

Conclusion

Viotek hasn’t been in the industry as long as other longstanding companies, such as Asus or Acer, but is certainly making a strong comback amounting a very impressive, quality, and reasonably priced gaming monitors collection that can stand toe to toe with the best. The Viotek FI24D is certainly not the best performing monitor but worth a look at if you’re looking for a straightforward yet stylish monitor that is has vibrant colors and performs well in multiple enviroments. What makes it even better is that you don’t have to break the bank and you can still get a simple but great looking gaming-friendly monitor.

BUILD QUALITY

Unlike a traditional lamp or laser projector Miroir has chosen to instead use an LED light source in the SYNQ M189 HD. Unfortunately, as we have seen with other LED projects this usually means I should expect it not to provide impressive numbers as it relates to lumen output, quality imaging, and just producing less desirable imagery overall but LED projectors do have some great benefits. For example;

1. A 20,000 hour LED life and no need to replace the projector lamp.
2. Portability,
3. Energy-efficient. In this case, being able to provide 3-hours of streaming on the go.

As it relates to the actual product look and feel. The SYNQ M189 HD housing has a solid build feel and comes in a sleek matte finish plastic and although the shape reminds me of a mini UPS backup it still looks pretty cool. Having said that, we did have some concerns when it comes to the connectivity compartment lid. It happens to have the only mount point on the projector but turns out its stronger than we thought as we mounted it on a tripod and took it everywhere ( Backyard, park, and game room ) for a month and it is not showing any sign of wear or flex. We still wouldn’t depend on this long term but it does the job.

The 5-watt built-in speaker was surprisingly powerful and although its sound is impressive I would still suggest using an external option.

Now let us see if the SYNQ M189 HD stands up to its 3-hour streaming claim.

IMAGE QUALITY

After some testing in different environments, the video quality is surprisingly ok. I would not recommend this for anything that requires a very crisp HD image, but for showing clips and even full-length movies while camping or a back yard pool party, I think it is a great portable projector provided you’re in a fairly dark environment.

Color balance was good, with the only issue a hint of blue in some white-dominant images.

The SYNQ M189 HD does have its faults and does horribly when significant ambient light enters the picture. it’s not surprising but if you are in a tight spot it does the job and stays portable.

Ultimately in a dark room, images look good at sizes up to at least 75 inches (measured on the diagonal), but the video looks washed out when the screen is more than about 20 inches, once ambient light comes into play.

VALUE

At $329.99 (Sep. 13, 2020) the Miroir SYNQ M189 HD comes in strong, compared to other similar projectors out in the market. Similar spec projectors like the Anker Nebula Capsule II (at $579.99), or the KODAK Luma 450 ($549.99) have similar specs, at much higher price points.

SUMMARY

The Miroir SYNQ M189 HD projector is a pretty impressive portable projector. For years I have been using an Epson projector outdoors and have managed to do the job fairly well. But to be honest it still performed much better in daylight compared to the SYNQ. What won me over with the SYNQ was its portability, Battery life, and just overall experience. I can take it just about anywhere, it be a meeting, patio, or outdoor adventure i can project content just about anywhere.
