Treat Yourself Today: Cheesecakes

If there is something you should know about me as a fellow Foodie, it’s that I’ve always loved (and probably will always love) breads, eggs and cheeses. This list is always expanding (luckily and amazingly, my belt size hasn’t . . . yet), but those are my main go-tos.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise then that for this month’s “Treat Yourself”, I’m featuring our cheesecakes in the park!

Here’s something you probably didn’t know: SeaWorld San Diego’s cheesecakes are made from scratch with fresh ingredients and are freshly baked and prepared right here in the park.

Which, of course, explains why they’re so good, to the point that I’m having to close my eyes while typing this so I don’t see the awesome pictures in this post, because I can feel my stomach requesting for a slice right now.

I can’t blame it at all, though. All of our cheesecakes are so smooth, creamy and delicious that as you’re enjoying the morsel in your mouth, you’re already sinking your fork into the slice on your plate, getting ready for your next bite.

There are three types of cheesecakes to choose from:

Original Cheesecake, with your choice of Caramel or Chocolate Sauce (or both)
Cherry Cheesecake
Cookies ‘N Cream Cheesecake

I like having whipped cream with every bite. If you’re the same, make sure to equally ratio it out as you enjoy your slice. I also tend to make my way from the bottom up, starting with the graham cracker pie crust first… am I the only one?

This treat is best enjoyed after a filling meal or dessert snack at any one of our major restaurants in the park, as well as at Seaside Coffee and Bakery near Shamu Stadium. Personally, I would suggest having this indulgence at Shipwreck Reef CafÃ© where there’s plenty of outdoor seating, and you can even hang out poolside with sea turtles. (Go past the submarine with the fishes.) If you’re at the park with your family and friends, get them to order one of each so that you can all have a “Treat Yourselves” party!

Here's to All Moms Out ThereThis Mother's Day from SeaWorld Orlando

In advance of Mother's Day, we wanted to showcase and celebrate some of the most unique mothers found at SeaWorld Orlando.

SeaWorld—A Real Chick Magnet.
Nobody does it better—SeaWorld has raised more penguin chicks than any other zoological park in the world. In fact, hundreds of penguins have been raised at our parks.

Penguin Day Care.
When it’s time to go to work, some people rely on day care centers to watch their children. The same is true for some penguins, too. The parents gather their chicks in groups when it’s time to go off to feed; this group is called a crÃ¨che, which is French for “crib.”

And opening soon, less than 2 weeks, is Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, where you'll be able to get up close to a colony of nearly 200 penguins after a one-of-a-kind family ride in this all-new realm.

Worth The Wait.
For all the human moms out there, imagine being pregnant for twice as long as normal—that’s what it’s like for killer whales as they can be pregnant up to 17 months!

Kids Grow Up Fast, Don’t They?
Not as fast as killer whales. In fact, killer whale calves gain about 454 kg (1,000 lbs.) in their first year of life, mainly just from the fatty milk they drink from their mothers!

From Teeny to Tremendous.
A polar bear mother will have from one to four cubs at a time. Open your hand–a newborn polar bear would likely fit in it. Yet that cub will grow to become one of the largest land predators alive today.

Happy Mother’s Day, Momma Alligator!
Unlike other reptiles, female alligators protect their young for up to two years after hatching. The first two years are the most critical in the life of an alligator, since up to 80 percent or more may fall victim to wading birds, raccoons, bobcats, otters, snakes, large bass and even larger alligators.

Best of the Best
SeaWorld has the finest bottlenose dolphin breeding program of any zoological park on the planet. To date more than 150 dolphins have been born at our facilities. You can meet our newest family members at SeaWorld Orlando's Dolphin Nursery, which is a special area for bottlenose dolphin moms and calves.

With a Little Help From My Friends.
Sometimes a dolphin may stay close to the new mother and calf to assist the mom, sort of like a nurse aid for a human mother. Although this assisting dolphin often is referred to as an "auntie" dolphin, it may be male or female. This auntie dolphin is often the only other dolphin a mother allows near her calf.

Hide in Plain Sight.
When it’s time to lay eggs and raise her chicks, a female hornbill bird finds a hole in a tree. Her male partner helps to seal her in with a mixture of mud and saliva and feeds his family through a slit built in to the wall.

Awesome Opossum!
Meet North America’s only mammal marsupial—females have a pouch just like their Australian cousins, the kangaroo. The mother opossum carries and nurses her young in her pouch until they are about 2 to 3 months old.

Her Nose Knows.
Several days after birth, a mother California sea lion leaves her pup in the crowded rookery of other sea lions as she searches for food in the ocean. When she returns, the mother emits a loud trumpeting vocalization, which elicits a bleating response from her pup. This exchange continues until mother and pup find each other. She then makes her final identification by smelling her own pup.

Help Mommas Everywhere.
Everyone mom needs a safe, clean place to bring up her babies. Help by putting trash in its place, recycling monofilament fishing line and choosing reusable bags and bottles.
