This post is my first one not related to school, but I figured since I decorated for Christmas during Thanksgiving break I could add it to my blog! December is one of my favorite months to teach the kids. I think it's the anticipation of Santa's arrival and the excitement my children bring into the classroom everyday during the month of December that make it one of my favorite months to teach.

Pajamas and Stuffed Animals!

The students have been working hard this past week to earn 30 tallies which would entitle them to pajama and stuffed animal day. As you can see from the photos, the kids were successful in earning enough tallies! They could earn tallies by having smooth transitions (moving from one activity to the next and being ready to learn). During Reader's Workshop the kids chose to read aloud to their

Character Traits: Physical

Go Away, Big Green Monster! This past week during Reader's Workshop the students were learning about Character Traits. This was an integrated reading and writing activity that the kids really enjoyed. I first covered the book with construction paper on the front and the back so that the kids couldn't see the book, then I told the kids that they would have to use their ears and the cameras in

Parent / Teacher Conferences

This week was parent / teacher conferences at school (big sigh of relief now that it's over)! So in honor of parent/teacher conference week, here is a funny joke I came across (I'm sure we can all think of some parents) :

When Mrs. Carling arrived for her daughter's parent-teacher conference, the teacher appeared to be a little flustered, especially when she started telling Mrs. Carling that

Q-Tip Painting

These are some fall trees that we made today using q-tips to paint! We started out the activity by writing Fall Leaf Poems. We began by brainstorming the types of leaves we see in the fall (ex. red, orange, big, small, smashed, blended colors, etc) Then we talked about what you can do in the leaves by listing action words (ex. jump, run, hide, throw, etc). The students then wrote

Halloween Crafts

These are some Halloween craft projects the kids are doing tomorrow! They are also making ghost lollipops and toilet paper pumpkins with orange tissue paper! It should be a fun filled day, followed by our all school Halloween Parade in costumes and our classroom party!
