We just wanted to say hi and let you all know that Lemon Oak Studio is back in action on Etsy! We've been on hiatus for a few months and had run out of artwork, but we are now currently loading our shop with brand new angels, made from very unique recycled and found objects. Plus we have original paintings and a new line of original painted recycled jewelry coming soon. More recycled flowers will be up in the near future, too!

You can follow us on Twitter @lemonoakstudio where we will be posting each new item in our shop as we list it and give little tidbits into our creation process.

Article in Cloth Paper Scissors Magazine!

We are very excited to announce our new article that has just been published in the November/December 2008 issue of Cloth Paper Scissors magazine! It showcases 2 pieces of artwork that are now available in our Etsy shop. First is our largest flower pot yet! Tricia and I made Potted Flowers with Words while I was visiting in Missouri this past July. And 2nd is Angel Spoon Face with large green and blue painted wings.

We are also listing several new pieces of artwork and jewelry in our store very soon!

In July, I went back to my hometown of Joplin, Missouri and while there Tricia and I embarked on some joint adventures. She had me traipsing around salvage yards, braving poison ivy, to pick up what her eye sees as potential artwork. Thank goodness for her artistic vision! It was enlightening to see the process she goes through from finding stuff to getting it put into artwork.

My son Kurt went with us on one of our "treasure hunts" as he likes to make his own creations. He found his own stuff and wouldn't let us touch it!

Here's Tricia cleaning the metal and one of our big piles of found rusty metal.

We spent many hours working on art together and I spent many hours at my mom's house working on pieces alone. The first piece I finished sold in about 30 minutes on Etsy: Flowers in Polka Dots. At the railroad tracks I found this bent silver pipe that Tricia put a gorgeous flower into:

We haven't been very active in our shop over the summer, but we have lots and lots of artwork almost ready to stock the shop for the fall and holiday season that will be following. Stay tuned!

Edible Assemblage Art...

....well sort of. On assignment for the newspaper she works for, Tricia recently put together a snowman made out of...vegetables!

Kind of freaky, isn't it? Unfortunately this type of artwork doesn't quite hold up. Ha.

Recycled Art - How it all started...

Ever wonder how Tricia's recycled art got started?

A few years ago the art center of her town sponsored a citywide clean-up. The volunteers spent a day collecting trash and found objects. The found objects were saved and a huge sculpture, Leonard the Spivasaurus, was created by the artist volunteers and displayed at the art center.
At this same time, our dad was suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. Tricia put her focus into creating angels out of the found objects to keep her mind off of our dad's illness. They were a huge hit at the art center and she created over 100 angels. All proceeds went to fund children's art activities. She continues to create them as a tribute to him.

It's almost spring here and we have the green grass to prove it. OK...I'll be honest...I live in Phoenix and it's winter grass...but it's still green. While I've been taking pictures of butterflies on grass ...my sister Tricia, who lives in Missouri, has been taking photos of angels on ice and snow. Yes, we cover it all! But if you are wanting a taste of spring, stop by the shop and take a look at brand new recycled art Butterfly Green and Purple! And keep watching for more single stem recycled flowers...soon to be added to the shop.

Spoon Flowers

Something new in the shop! We've started making individual flowers. This has been requested by customers who love our flower pots, but want something more affordable. The first one is made using a serving spoon as the stem and base.

Called Blue Spoon Flower it has shades of blues and purples for "petals" with some yellow touches. Stay tuned for more spring flowers and other new assemblage art!

The latest issue of VenusZine Magazine has just been delivered and lo' and behold, we are in it! OK, well, we knew we were supposed to be in it, but until you actually see something in print, you just never know if you are going to get bumped. We were asked to contribute to an Upcycling article and were very honored to oblige. Our Angel Reflector was chosen (and is now sold) to represent our shop. Here's the page.

Green Green Gifts

We've been very fortunate to have been on the front page of Etsy 5 times since we joined back in June. Recently there was a fabulous treasury by ReFabulous called Green Green Gifts - all comprised of recycled items that were green. It made it to the front page and included our little O Christmas Tree.

It sold, but we still have several green, green items in our shop! Like this angel made from a green roof shingle:

And a pendant made from recycled metal, with a print of one of our trees, plus a genuine green turquoise:

Of course, we still have one tree left. This one was made entirely from melted metal, painted to look like an Evergreen Tree.

So, if you want to feel really good about your Christmas gifts this year, go green. Check out all the shops in the treasury up above and buy something beautiful and recycled.

We have something new in our shop - magnets! There are a few styles available. In Lemon Oak Studio we have the Be An Angel magnets to promote recycling.

Wearable Art - Recycled Jewelry

We've ventured into something new - jewelry. But this is very different jewelry. It's not beads or glass or silver or gold. It's not wire or polymer clay or ceramic. But it's still beautiful.

Our jewelry is made from found metal. Pieces of rusty metal that are headed to a landfill. We've rescued it and turned it into unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. Better yet, we've embellished each piece of metal with original mini prints taken from our actual found object art work. The result is colorful, gorgeous pieces that will become a conversation starter and may open up a dialogue about recycling and cleaning up the environment. When you wear a piece of our jewelry you can make a statement that you care and have found a way to help.

Currently we have brooches and pendants, but the sky is the limit since we never know what we may find out in the world. Each piece comes with a beautiful black, glossy box with the matching print on top.

Just into our shop - new evergreen trees made from recycled, found objects. Rusty metal pieces have been painted green, then the tree has been embellished with a door latch and buttons, plus more. Take a look at the first O Christmas Tree!

If you haven't stopped by lately, please take a look at the new original Artist Trading Cards, or ACEO, of brand new Buzzlewics in the Tricia Courtney shop! Tricia has handdrawn these new Buzzlewics with permanent ink and they are named and signed on the back. Here's Seepo:

He lives in the Mountains of the Land of Buzzlewic. In the future, Tricia will turn these drawings into full-color Buzzlewic characters and you now have the opportunity to have the very first drawing of him! We'll be putting up more original trading cards every day.

Lots of new angels are coming up in Lemon Oak Studio. They are going very fast, so please check in at our shop often! We even have a couple of Christmas ornaments available, with hopefully more to come.

Just in case you were wondering...I thought I would explain our pricing of the found object art we sell. We price our angels and other assemblage art according to size, complexity, and uniqueness. No 2 items will ever be the same - they are One-of-a-Kind works of art. Angels that are smaller and more simple in design are priced lower and other items, like this Flowers with Color, that are very intricately designed, quite large, and have pieces that will never be found again, are obviously priced higher.Because this is a more higher-ended piece, we offer a print of this item here: Print of Flowers with Color at a very affordable price.

To give some scale to the angels, I put several of them up on the wall so you can compare sizes:

As you can see, we have art work that fits most budgets!

It's been forever since I updated this thing! We've been busy. That treasury below ended up on the front page - woohoo!

Let's see, well we opened up a new shop on Etsy: triciacourtney to showcase just the digital art of Buzzlewics, Zoppyzeeps and other designs. It just wasn't fitting in well with the assemblage art on Lemon Oak Studio . Here's a peek at one of the prints:

That's an illustration from The Mountains - one of the lands. We have lots planned for the new shop in addition to the prints and coloring books: trading cards, a guide to the Buzzlewics, calendars, plus lots more! You'll even find some original art at some point.

In other news, the assemblage art is now on Trunkt.org: Lemon Oak Studio on Trunkt.org - we feel honored to be accepted on such a beautiful site. Look for new art coming that is something other than angels. ;)

New Treasury

We were fortunate to get featured in another Treasury at Etsy! It shows one of our newest angels posted in our shop - Angel Big Belt. I also listed a quite unique one today called Angel Swim Cap. Who but Tricia would see the artistic potentional of an old and tattered swim cap found on the ground? (Note: all pieces are cleaned and disinfected prior to assembling.)
