Air conditioning is widely considered to be a necessity in modern homes and offices, but there is still a lot of misinformation surrounding the appliance. Continue reading →

We’re living in expensive times; rents, mortgages, food prices and energy bills seem to be constantly rising, so it’s no wonder we’re all looking for ways to save money where we can, both at home and in the office. Increasing our energy efficiency is one of the most fundamental ways we can change our lifestyle and save money. Obviously comfort is a top priority wherever we are, which is why heating and cooling systems are necessary, but did you know there are common misconceptions out there that are costing you money?

Myth: Lowering The Thermostat Lowers The Temperature

While it seems logical that lowering the temperature on your air conditioning unit will cool a room faster, the process simply wastes your energy and your room cools at the same rate. The speed with which air moves around a given space doesn’t depend on its temperature, whether you choose to set the thermostat to 15°, 10°, or even 5° your room won’t cool down any quicker.

Myth: Ceiling Fans Cool Empty Rooms

Ceiling fans cool down people, they don’t cool down rooms. They generate a wind chill that can both aid the efficiency of air conditioners, and cool you down, but they do not lower the temperature of a room, and won’t keep it cool when you’re not there.

Myth: Keeping The A/C Off When You’re Out Saves Energy

Obviously allowing your air conditioning unit to blast cold air in an empty house is going to cost you unnecessary money, but bringing down the temperature of a sweltering house takes a significant amount of energy too. There is a middle ground: programmable thermostats. You can allow your system to shut down while you’re out and set it to begin gradually lowering the temperature at a steady rate before you come home. You can save a chunk of your annual bills and always come home to a comfortable temperature.

At Inspace Group we are industry leaders when it comes to air conditioning engineering, have over 20 years of experience in the industry and specialise in both innovative systems and second to none customer service.
By completing some routine maintenance and/or investing in new systems you can keep your office productive and comfortable, no matter what the weather. Continue reading →

While we’re working through the winter our number one concern is staying warm, we run our heating systems to keep the cold weather at bay and those hot, sweaty, summer days are fast forgotten. The best way to stay comfortable and productive all year long is to prepare for each season in advance so your systems run smoothly as soon as you need them, so when the cold weather hits it’s the perfect time to prepare for the summer.

Immediate Jobs

If your heating system is in need of maintenance, this should be taken care of first and foremost. Make sure your boiler is serviced so it is working efficiently and isn’t likely to break down and turn your office into an igloo.

If your heating system is inefficient and costing you a fortune it might be time to opt for an upgrade. Investing in a system that can not only heat your property but also stop heat from escaping can have a dramatic effect on your monthly spend. Invest in modern heating systems that allow you to reuse the heat that is already in your building, so you pay less and your environment stays cosy.

Air Conditioning

There’s nothing more detrimental to productivity in the summer than being hot and bothered. If your air conditioning isn’t up to scratch the whole office will be uncomfortable and their health will suffer. Your system will undoubtedly have been working hard all summer long so will likely be in need of some maintenance: make sure your system is fully checked so any problems are detected, and the filters are changed and clean so the system works efficiently.

If your workplace doesn’t currently have an air conditioner, winter is the perfect time to invest. The demand is lower so you’re more likely to find a good deal on a system and you’ll see an immediate boost in staff morale on the first sweltering day of the year.

Here at Inspace we supply, install and maintain heating systems and air conditioners to a wide variety of commercial environments. Whether you’re looking to maintain your systems this winter or invest in new ones, our dedicated team are here to help. For more information on any of our services, get in touch today on 0800 022 4469 to speak to a member of our team.

Air conditioning and ventilation is far more than a simple fact of comfort - there are numerous key reasons why its important. Read our latest post for more. Continue reading →

When we think of pollution, we think of great big chimneys belching out thick black smoke, or piles of plastic, paper and other packaging materials blown into unsightly piles along the side of roads and so on. What many people do not realise is that pollution can be invisible – and more prevalent inside our homes and offices than we might first think.

If a building is well-ventilated then pollution (whether it’s from outside pollution or microorganisms like bacteria and viruses) do not pose too much of a problem as they are circulated away and filtered out before too long. However, in poorly ventilated offices they can build up, causing allergies and inflaming asthma, respiratory problems and even Sick Building Syndrome.

Poor ventilation can also contribute to the spread of diseases like flu, which can have a dramatic impact on your business’s output.

Some of the more hardened workers might claim that conditions like Sick Building Syndrome are nothing more than all in the mind, as there were no such conditions forty or fifty years ago. In fact, forty or fifty years ago, most buildings had windows that could be opened wide when the air inside got too hot or stuffy.

Modern building practises now mean that buildings are constructed with fully automated air conditioning systems and windows are rarely designed to be opened – if at all.

When air conditioning systems work well, they move old stale air, filter and purify it and introduce new clean air into offices and rooms on a regular basis; but if the filters become blocked or dirty, or the system breaks down, it will not be long before the occupants begin to feel the ill-effects.

Even in buildings where ventilation is thought to be adequate it is possible to see the effects of poor quality air. Installing or upgrading an air conditioning system can see employees’ morale improving, dramatically in some cases, productivity can increase and instances of employees falling ill can fall.

The cost of an air conditioning system will soon pay for itself and any employee will be amazed and pleased at the boost that can be provided to a business by simply taking care of the air the staff breathes!

At Inspace Group we have over 20 years’ experience in office ventilation systems and we can help you to choose the right system for your building. Do not delay, call us today and we will provide you with the expertise required to improve your building’s ventilation and air conditioning systems.

When the stifling heat of summer comes, it is unimaginable to spend time indoors without air conditioning. An air conditioner can make the interiors of homes and offices feel comfortable and also good for certain indoor plants. However, have you ever paused for a few moments to think about the development of air conditioning units over the years?

The Early Days

It is claimed that the Persians used a wind-catching system to pull air through a tower, and run over water to help cool their homes during the warm summer months. The Romans installed pipes to carry water through their walls to keep the walls cool. These ancient methods of cooling laid the first foundation for air conditioning units.

The first documented demonstration of artificial cooling (or refrigeration) happened in 1756, when William Cullen used a vacuum pump in Edinburgh to create vacuum over diethyl ether. This caused the ether to boil and absorb heat from the surroundings, and this, in turn, created a small bit of ice. However, this method of cooling did not catch on.

Air Conditioning in the 19th Century

In the early 19th century, Oliver Evans designed a refrigeration system but never got round to building it. He designed the system on vapour compression refrigeration system and the system was patented by Jacob Perkins in 1834.

A physician named John Gorrie of Florida used compression technology in 1842 to create ice. He used this ice to cool down his hospital located in Apalachicola, Florida. He hoped that eventually this ice-making machine that he had created would be used to bring down temperatures in buildings. He patented the machine in 1851 but could not bring it into production, as his financial backer passed away.

However, it was the ventilation system designed by Alfred Wolffe in 1889 that stole the limelight. It was installed in Carnegie Hall and also in the New York Stock Exchange, where it worked for 20 years.

Air Conditioning in the 20th Century

It was Willis Carrier in 1902 who designed the first modern air conditioning unit. This unit had the ability to control humidity, something that was not seen during those times. The system was further refined. The term ‘air conditioning’ was coined by Stuart Cramer in 1906, who designed a system that allowed him to add water to the ambient air inside his textile mill, and used the term for the first time when he filed his patent application.

Initially, air conditioning units were used in industrial settings rather than in homes. However, the concept of cooling homes too caught on and units were manufactured to suit homes.

If you feel your business could benefit from the installation of air conditioning then get in touch with us at Inspace Group today and we’ll be more than happy to discuss your needs to find the right solution for you.

How Will the R-22 Phase Out Affect You?

A new legislation is being introduced about the phase out of the refrigerant R-22. Read on to find how this affects you and what you should do about it. Continue reading →

The new legislation concerning the refrigerant R-22 used in many air conditioning and refrigeration systems is soon to be phased out. By 2015 this refrigerant will no longer be able to be used or sold, this is due to the damaging effect it has on the ozone layer, which in turn has resulted in excessive UV levels.

What Does This Mean For You?

There is no need to panic; there are a number of ways you as a business can make the transition in a relatively simple and easy way. Although your system does not need to be changed straight away it will need to be at some point in the near future.

Many businesses are simply letting the refrigerant run its course. Most R-22 refrigerants should be near the end of their lifespans by now, so instead of having regular service and maintenance checks, businesses are leaving their systems to keep working until they break down and they can then be replaced or until the refrigerant needs replacing. Although this is an easy way to go about the change, it is not as cost effective as you may think. Without regular servicing and maintenance, the system has to work harder to cool the air, especially if it hasn’t been professionally cleaned in a while. This can cost you more in regards to your energy bills.

What Should You Do?

One of the easiest things you can do is get your system replaced as soon as possible. Older systems are much less energy efficient so could be costing you more money to run on a daily basis. By installing a newer system you could be saving yourself money, as well as making sure you are fully complying with the law. As time goes on, newer systems may get more expensive due to the demand of the quick changeover to accommodate this new legislation. Newer systems use a much more environmentally friendly refrigerant called R-410A, these latest systems can be as much as 50-60% more efficient.

How Can We help?

We here at Inspace Group are an experienced and certified air conditioning specialist company working in Hatfield and the surrounding areas. Our skilled engineers can replace your air conditioning system in no time. We can design the best system to suit your working environment, size of the area and the amount of people using it, whilst making sure the appearance of it is sleek and modern to fit in with your business.
This post separates the myths about air conditioning from the truth and puts all of those Chinese whispers to rest. Read on for more information from Inspace. Continue reading →

There seems to be a bad case of Chinese whispers going around in the case of air conditioning systems. Well we here at Inspace Group are here to bring you the truth about all those myths that you have probably heard, and set the record straight:

1.	Myth – Air condition systems spread illness and disease around the office environment.

Truth – Air conditioners actually reduce the amount of bacteria, dust and pollen in the air. The air is filtered through the system, removing these particles so the air that is blown out to cool the area, is cleaner.

2.	Myth – Air conditioning systems don’t need any maintenance carried out on them unless they stop working.

Truth – Air conditioning systems need regular maintenance, to ensure they are working correctly. If there is a problem with the system it can easily be checked and rectified before it becomes worse and requires more work, therefore being more expensive.

3.	Myth – The filters in an air conditioning system don’t need to be changed, mine works fine.

Truth - The filters should be changed frequently to keep them clean so that they are effectively filtering the air passing through. The dirtier the filters are the harder the system has to work, meaning it’s using more energy and costing you more.

4.	Myth - Air conditioners cost a lot of money to run.

Truth – Yes air conditioners like any other piece of electrical equipment cost money to run, but they are actually a lot more energy efficient then most other cooling systems. Older systems may not be as efficient as more modern ones, so if your system is older, it may be worth upgrading.

5.	Myth – Setting a lower temperature will cool down a room more quickly.

Truth – The rate at which an air conditioning system cools down a room is the same no matter what the temperature is set to. Once the room has reached that temperature, the system will maintain it. If the temperature is set lower, it does not mean that the room will instantly get to that temperature more quickly.

Now that you know the truth about air conditioning systems, you should take into consideration the maintenance that has probably been neglected. So if you’re looking for air conditioning services in Hatfield, Inspace Group are here to help. Call us on 0800 022 4469 or get in touch through our contact form.

An increasing number of business owners are coming to the conclusion that air conditioning is not just about making their employees and customers feel more comfortable, but that this type of system in fact comes with multiple advantages. Here at Inspace Group, we have gained a great reputation across the UK for helping businesses get the most from their air conditioning systems, and are always happy to talk to you about how and which type of system can benefit your business.

Key Benefits of Air Conditioning in the Workplace

Here are just some of the key benefits of using air con in the work place:

• If employees feel hot or sweaty, it can reduce their productivity dramatically. Air conditioning can increase productivity by always keeping a constant temperature and reducing humidity.

• This system may be able to reduce employee days lost due to sickness because the air con can have filters which will reduce fungi and allergy-producing mites in the air.

• Too much heat can make people feel stressed, which could in turn have a negative impact on the health of your team. Installing air con will mean that they feel more comfortable at work, which should benefit them mentally as well as physically.

• If the workplace becomes too hot during the summer months, windows will need to be opened which could be a security risk.

• If computers or servers in your office overheat, it could cause huge problems for your business. Air con will help to keep this equipment at safe temperatures.

• Air conditioning can quickly bring the temperature in a room down to a desirable level. This can be very useful at the start of a workday when it is hot outside by providing some cooling relief to your employees.

• If you entertain customers or clients in the workplace, it will make them feel more comfortable and therefore more receptive to hearing about your products and services.

• This type of system is mostly associated with cooling the air down, but there is also a heating mechanism to increase the temperature of the air should it fall below desirable levels.

Installing air conditioning in the workplace can be a great decision. If this is something that you would like for your business, or you want to find out more information, please contact us here at Inspace Group. We look forward to hearing from you.

Air conditioning has become an essential aspect of our lives that we no longer think about. As it is so readily available we no longer think of it as a luxury. The only time we really think about it is if it’s broken or it’s a hot day and there is no air conditioning. There is however a number of reasons that you need to either install an air conditioning system with Inspace Group if you don’t have one already, or upgrade to a new and improved system.

Environmentally Friendly

Unlike many other air conditioning companies, we are dedicated to preserving the environment. We aim to minimise environmental impact so all of our products are carefully selected to reduce carbon emissions. We also try to reduce wasting resources so all the products we provide are energy efficiency rated. All of our engineers and staff are fully trained to work towards our stringent ‘green’ requirements.

Aesthetics

We have a great reputation within both the residential and commercial sector for our design. The systems we supply are fitted so that they are not an eyesore in your home or business as well as being sleek and stylish. With top brands such as Mitsubishi, Electric and Daikin you can be sure that your system will not only look fantastic, but be fully functional too.

Air Quality

Our air conditioning systems reduce viruses and bacteria in the air by the filters in the systems. This can minimise problems with allergies, hay fever and asthma. This can improve comfort in your own home for residential properties and for commercial properties, it can reduce sickness at work by filtering the air and minimising the risk of germs being passed on.
