CKC September Seven Seas Page/Altered Kit

Meridy and Bethany from the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog asked for volunteers to make a page kit for September (theme: my choice), so I did not hesitate to respond as I had this project I wanted to alter for months now (printer's tray shown below), and wanted to get it done! I thought this would be perfect to take a page kit and go "out of the box"! Theme: altered!

I kept the same color scheme and theme of my Main Kit, and named this kit:

SEPTEMBER SEVEN SEAS PAGE/ALTERED KIT

Create a kit to finish up or feature memorabilia from this summer and Labor Day.

My kit features nautical papers from Pink Paislee, nautical charms, vintage photos, postcards and ephemera, hand-crafted felt embellishments, co-ordinating laces, ribbons, and flowers.

Dare: I dare you to create a scrapbook page that looks like an altered printer's tray! (see Resources below)

September 2012 Inspiration Kit

Welcome to our Master Forgers Blog Hop!

As seen on the CKC Blog: The September 2012 Inspiration Kit is the August kit put together by Birds of a Feather. Their August 2012 kit contains some pretty patterned paper and a nice assortment of perfectly paired embellishments. As a little added bonus this month, each of our Master Forgers have created 3 counterfeit embellishments, drawn from inspiration from this summer's CHA new releases!

My Kit: Neptune Sea

I created a lot of handmade embellishments for this kit, including the canvas banner pieces (shown above), the felt bow photo clips (shown above), mini kraft diecut tags (shown above), and layered & embellished flowers (shown above).

A Letter to A Young Beginner Art Journaler

I just received a letter from a teenager in my family asking me about supplies for art journaling as she has just taken up the hobby. She wrote, "I'm stuck. I have no idea what supplies I need! I have the basic stamp pad and stamps and gesso and acrylics but I need help with the next step. I want all the materials I can get to make my art journal the best it could be so I was wondering what you would suggest. What should I by to make my art journals look so wonderful likes yours do?"

Dear ________, (name left out because she is a minor and for privacy reasons)

Art journaling is awesome...great for personal expression. There are so many things you can buy, so I'd figure out what style of art journaling you like, and see what products those art journalers use! LOL

I do both paper style and digital style (with Photoshop Elements). All of these pages were created digital

For now, I suggest starting with what you have on hand, and watching some Youtube videos on art journaling techniques...also, you can make your own products instead of buying some of this stuff and I'll give you those links too.

If you like digital, and have fun with it, you can ask the kit designer if they like your pages, and if they have room on their creative team, and you would get their kits for free in exchange for making a sample page with that kit. I'm only on Studio Tangie's team, but I also write for her blog. (Her shoppe is at http://shop.scrapbookgraphics.com/Tangie-Baxter/)

As for getting your hands messy with paper style art journaling: my favorite products include
matte medium (to mix with paints),

mists (you can buy or make),

stencils by the manufacturer Crafter's Warehouse,

water-soluble crayons (I only have a few colors so far, you can buy individual crayons),

black writing pen from ScarletLime.com,

black Copic sketch marker (will write on anything in your art journal, even over paint),

vintage findings from garage sales/flea markets such as vintage papers, vintage book pages, vintage postcards, etc., and magazine clippings.

CKC August Challenge #1 - Enter An Online Challenge

Challenge #1: Enter an Online Challenge: Pick an online scrappy challenge, create something for it and then submit it!

I loved this challenge! Of course, I used my August CKC Kit. My husband said he was really impressed with this layout. I need to do more online challenges....I haven't done any in ages. I looked at the list of challenges at Scrapchallenge.com, and found this { one.} Because the sponsor is Artful Delight, I checked out their blog, and found this sketch for August. Isn't it cute? (ETA: I am not doing the sketch challenge as well, just thought it was a cute touch.)

The scrappy twist for this challenge by Scrapping Everyday Miracles was to use a stencil/mask on a layout about your favorite vacation. You can see my masking above in green mist on the cardstock.

Oh Happy Day - Tangie Baxter & Co. Art Journaling Stamps and Goodies!

They are my new favorite stamps!!!! I'll be using these stamps for my creative team work on the Studio Tangie Blog.

First Birthday and a Bridesmaid

To those of you who have given me Facebook and email support over the passing of my dear Father-In-Law at the end of July, thank you thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart. I did not expect it to hit me so hard as he's not my actual father, although I did call him "Dad," as my husband addresses my father "Dad" as well.

Those of you following my articles on the Studio Tangie art journal blog, I have taken the month of August off as I just don't have the emotional energy right now considering the circumstances.

My mother-in-law also had a heart attack the same day Dad S. passed away, and she is now in transition at a rehab facility. We just got an offer on their house today, after having an open house yesterday. Things are happening very fast.

My husband is amazing, handling all of his parents' affairs along with his brother, while keeping his sister in California up-to-date as well as his local sister who keeps their mother company during this time of mourning.

It still doesn't seem real. Dad S. was just a force of nature, you would hear that saying over and over by many people at his viewing, which about 1,000 persons attended. He was very popular, and important in the community, especially during the 1970's during his tenure as the Band Director at the Catholic High School - Bishop Kearney. The band won championships, and he took the band overseas to meet the Pope, Princess Grace, to Ireland, and also traveled throughout the U.S.

While I don't have it in me to research, co-ordinate, and write My Vision for 2012 posts for Studio Tangie, I am finding much peace in paper scrapping. That is, when I am not re-organizing my scraproom! It feels so good to spend quality time in my scraproom, that has been neglected for a long time. I've been in my favorite room, organizing while I had the Olympics on. I found myself wishing that every room in my house was as fun as my scraproom!

Here are layouts I've done so far using my August Counterfeit Kit...I've made more...I just haven't completed the photos yet! I hope you come back to see the rest. :) I promise to work on them right away.

Layout #1: First Birthday

Many people commented when I revealed my kits that they loved the Bingo cards, and I wish I could have used more than one on this layout, but then it would have covered the patterned paper, and I didn't want that.

I know the background is a little busy, yet I had a lot of fun layering the patterned paper, the diecut lace, and the transparency to create this unique look. I've had those metal words forever, about eight years!

Layout #2: Bridesmaid

In this second layout, it's a photo of me as a (jr.) bridesmaid many years ago! I lined up the title along the border, which ended up being slanted...and imperfect which I've decided to embrace.

I've had these two tags forever and ever as well. I doubted that I would ever use this "memories" tag, but I do love it here.

I love scrapping old photos, and really focused on the light blue of my dress and pulled in a lot of lighter blue shades of paper and embellishments.

That photo really brings back memories, and it's very very interesting where the people involved ended up now. That's a story maybe for my art journal. What stories do your old photos hold?

August 2012 Inspiration Kit

This month we have decided to use a "different" type of inspiration kit...a DIGITAL kit!!! So much fun! There are so many bits and pieces to this month's kit, it should be really fun to put together and create with.

We have decided to use a kit from http://scraporchard.com/. Here is the link to the digital kit we will be counterfeiting, called Summer Lovin' by Chelle's Creations.

What's the next step???

The CHALLENGE is to use this kit for inspiration. How, you ask? Well, there are many ways to go about this. Here are a few ideas...
Try and match every piece in the kit as close as possible to something from your supply stash.
Use the "kit contents" as inspiration, and recreate your own kit with the same types of supplies, but in a different color or style that corresponds better with your preferences/photographs/scrapbook style/tastes.
Make an even smaller "page kit" or "card kit"..."counterfeiting" just a few items from this month's kit as inspiration.
Using the color scheme from the kits as inspiration, try to re-create a kit of your own using whatever supplies you have available.

My August Counterfeit Kit: Pinwheels & Posies

I am using the Crate Paper Storyteller Kit that I bought on clearance as my main inspiration for my August Counterfeit Kit which I named Pinwheels and Posies. I also made my own bicycle, bee, and pinwheels. I used the bicycle and bee patterns from scrapbooksetc.com (bhg.com). The flashcards are from Pretty Little Studio.

My August Add On 1 & 2 : Summertide Reflections

Since last month I blasted through my kit, I decided to make this kit larger with this add-on. Here are more papers as well as paper scraps. I pulled lots of embellishments, and then punched, and die-cut, and embossed my heart out with co-ordinating paper.

My August Birthday Add-On

Finally, I pulled some birthday-themed items for photos that I want to scrap from May. I also have not photographed cardstock yet.

Natural Beauty

I decided to just adhere strips/scraps to cardstock as I got to the bottom of my July Counterfeit Kit. I left the left side of the layout with white space because I liked how it looked against the photograph. I tried putting the embellishments in many different places before I settled on clustering them along the right side of the photograph. The flowers were the final touch.

I used my Add-On kit for this layout featuring my cute nephew playing at the playground. I had taken some patterned papers a while back and spray painted them using diecut lace as a mask. I used this as the background. I knew I wanted to use the ribbon to tie in his shirt color, but it didn't really work until I pulled in the 8x8 Mariposa paper because it has a hint of orange in it, and I didn't realize his shirt has orange in it as well, although it looks like red. I do intend to finish the buttons with thread.

My nephew is at the age, 14 mo., where you have to watch him closely because everything in his hands also goes in his mouth. You have to catch him before his hands go to his mouth!

This is what we call family

Here are two layouts using my July Add-On Counterfeit Kit: America the Brave. Above is my cousin Scott's family. It's a simple layout, yet I love the femininity of it with the doilies, lace, and ruffled ribbon as well as the Mellisa Frances floral embellishment anchoring the photograph.

Below, the layout "Details" features more photos from our trip to Miami in January. These were taken on Espanola Way in from inside an art gallery and on it's balcony. It really brings back happy memories. Espanola Way is such a charming street, if you are ever in Miami, be sure to check it out for the restaurants, little shops, and galleries.

Good Dog {Life is Good!}

Here's another layout using my Main July Counterfeit Kit Pocketful of Sunshine. This is my baby, Friday, my bichon frise. My friend Janet took this photo with her iPhone last year. My new neighbor was commenting on how she told her friend that Friday is the best dog, and so I wanted the journaling to reflect that.

New Theme for July: Ambition!
My Vision for 2012
on the Studio Tangie Blog!!!

Journaling: Ambition. For a long time, I ‘ve preferred to think that I don’t have a lot of ambition because then I can’t get beaten down by failure if I don’t have ambition. I’ve had people disagree with me that I don’t have ambition. I think what they see is my Capricorn nature: hard-working, challenge-oriented, and determined to finish the task. In the scrapbooking and art journaling world, I do it because I love to do it…not to strive aggressively for success in this industry.

As I look at my other goals, I realize it couldn’t hurt to inject a little ambition into them. I have been a little too comfortable, not wanting to rock the boat.

Two of these areas that are painfully in need of ambition include my home and garden. The main frustration that has caused me to shut down is that I don’t know how to compromise with my husband, and how to follow through to a plan of action that includes his ideas as well. When it comes to decorating and gardening, it would be so much faster for me to just do it myself, as my husband is so busy that it is hard to get him to sit down and make a decision, yet he definitely wants to put in his two cents. So ten years have gone by without a lot getting done at our home. We decorated nicely when we first moved in, but 10 years later and it’s about time for a change. However, the garden, especially in the backyard was never done.

It comes down to communicate, communicate, communicate. And then appreciate, appreciate, appreciate!

My Vision for 2012: Abundance Prompt #5

Prompt: What do I have in my resources that will assist in attaining my individual vision of abundance?

I used one of Tangie’s Art Journaling Templates, and went for a look that showed the feeling that the journaling gave me.

Journaling:
I want an abundance of love. I am grateful for my husband, my husband’s family especially my nieces and nephews, and for my family, especially for my new nephew.
I want an abundance of laughter. I am grateful for my husband’s sense of humor. I love that his favorite movies are comedies.
I want an abundance of respect. I am grateful to be part of the Studio Tangie team, and to part of Masterful Scrapbook Design’s teachers this month.
I want an abundance of security. I am grateful to live in a safe neighborhood near the beach where people love to walk around here at all hours of the day.
I want an abundance of plants and flowers in my garden. I am grateful for the landscaping and trees that we currently have in our yard.
I want an abundance of health. I am grateful for breathing, for being able to walk, use my arms, and for feeling good.
I want an abundance of energy. I am grateful for my doctor treating my hypothyroidism. I am grateful for power naps. I am grateful for more energy lately.

Here is a simple layout using my main July Counterfeit Kit Pocketful of Sunshine. My cousin had her second child in November 2011, and had these professional photos taken. Isn't he adorable. This is DCWV paper, and I believe MME diecuts and transparency frame, plus a Hambly transparency.

This layout: Art Deco, features photos taken in Miami as we were driving by these Art Deco buildings. I don't remember the manufacturer of the script paper, but the green is Jenni Bowlin, and the rest is Pink Paislee with some die cuts and ephemera.

From the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog: July 2012 Inspiration Kit

The July 2012 Inspiration Kit is the March kit put together by a brand new kit club called Citrus Twist. Their June 2012 kit is called "Summer Boardwalk" and is full of some of the latest and greatest in the scrapbook industry. You can view the contents at their web site found at their web site here . The "Summer Boardwalk" kit will go perfectly with photos from a sunny summer day, to a quaint summer vacation. We hope you will enjoy creating your Counterfeit Kit based on this inspiration.

What's the next step???

The CHALLENGE is to use this kit for inspiration. How, you ask? Well, there are many ways to go about this. Here are a few ideas...

Try and match every piece in the kit as close as possible to something from your supply stash.
Use the "kit contents" as inspiration, and recreate your own kit with the same types of supplies, but in a different color or style that corresponds better with your preferences/photographs/scrapbook style/tastes.
Make an even smaller "page kit" or "card kit"..."counterfeiting" just a few items from this month's kit as inspiration.
Using the color scheme from the kits as inspiration, try to re-create a kit of your own using whatever supplies you have available.

My July Kit: Pocketful of Sunshine

You'll notice right away that my kit does not resemble the inspiration kit at all! I'VE GONE ROGUE! LOL

I pulled this kit together last month and never touched it, never photographed it...yet I loved it so I decided it would be my July kit. And I've already used it almost all up!

I loved the summery papers, and then I added a ton of embellishments which I photographed in three sets for better viewing.

Add-On Kit: America the Brave

Since I whipped through my first kit so quickly, I decided to get out my July 2011 Add-On Kit that I still had from last year, and see how much of it was left. I decided to make it my add-on kit for this month, and re-named it America the Brave. This is what the kit looks like now:

I've made two layouts so far with this kit, but you'll have to wait to see them! :) For now, there are other Master Forgers blogs to check out!

CKC Challenge #2 Get Messy (aka Paint Challenge)

Challenge #2: Get Messy (aka Paint Challenge:) Use something messy (paint) on your project!

The real challenge is to use paint on your project, yet my June CKC Kit didn't include paint in my Get Messy Add-On, so I used a spray and stencil instead.

This is a photo of myself, circa 5th grade band class in the 80's, in my 10 1/2 (out of a 10) t-shirt. Check out my Farrah Fawcett feathered hairstyle. I'm super skinny as I "ate like a bird," as my mother said. Why can't I have those "eat like a bird" days back? LOL And that t-shirt cracks me up!

I had used the stencil on another page, and then flipped it over and used the reverse on this page, not wasting a drop of spray!

The button in the "o" just did it for me. LOL

Below, I used scraps to make a card while I was still sitting there before cleaning up.

Several of you were hoping for inspiration for these papers, so between Challenge #1 and 2, I hope you got some great ideas!

CKC Blog Challenge #1: Travel Inspiration

Challenge #1: Travel Challenge: Use travel to inspire your project!

I used my June Counterfeit Kit to create this travel-inspired layout. Here we are during our vacation to Miami in January, we are in South Beach taking a Frozen Yogurt Break.

I love this Jenni Bowlin paper, and the Prima flowers. The travel stamps are by Technique Tuesday. I had lots of fun making this.

I also started to make a mini for our recent trip to Sedona, Arizona. This is a chipboard album, I believe from Magistical Memories. I need to make holes in the side for rings to hold the pages together.

Family and New Tags

Sharing today some projects using my June Counterfeit Kit. The above layout features an older photo with me and my cousins on Easter. I'll add journaling later.

I never knew how I was going to use that Webster's Pages paper but I'm sure glad to finally scrap it! I love it!

When I posted my June Counterfeit Kit, I posted some ideas for tags. So the other day, after I was done with a layout, I put together a few tags as well. These are for no particular project in mind. I just put together whatever embellishments I thought looked cute together.

The stamp on the flashcard was created by using Glimmerglaze on the stamp. I found the Glimmerglaze worked a lot better on the larger letters than it did on smaller letters.

Grandma's Summer Cottage - June Counterfeit Kit Reveal and Blog Hop!

This is my June Counterfeit Kit: Grandma's Summer Cottage.It's a little special this month, you will be extra excited about this idea!

THE CHALLENGE

Our Challenge will be to make your OWN kit containing:

10 sheets patterned paper

8 sheets cardstock

2 alphabets

2 stamp sets

4 journaling spots

3 TYPES of "misc" embellishments (so people can pick their favorite item like ribbon, or border stickers or silk flowers)

1 OLD item/embellishment (like eyelets or fibers or chipboard) LOL

1 Messy item (paint, stickles, embossing...)

1 surprise item of your choice!

Or you can counterfeit any of the Master Forgers' kits!

MY KIT: GRANDMA'S SUMMER COTTAGE

I started with the Jenni Bowlin floral pp: Oilcloth, and grabbed a few more of her papers, and started building my kit around that.

We were on vacation for 10 days in May in Sedona, Arizona and also in the Los Angeles area, so I tried to pull papers that I thought could be versatile in using for vacation photos. I was surprised at the outcome of the kit, it's not my usual really bright, jewel colors with a lot of pinks and aquas. I think the red, yellows, and blues work well together though.

I just love the 7gypsies papers and I'm kind of loving the eclectic look that I've named Grandma's Summer Cottage. A few of them have a wonderful flock pattern.

I was really happy with the cardstock choices. I knew right away I wanted Kraft and White. I went through all of my stash of blues until I found the right teal. I don't have that great of a selection of blue cardstocks on hand. Yet I just love the teal, yellow and lime combination.

I like the green in the Jenni Bowlin floral pattern paper, and the felt alpha is cool so I added that in, as well as the thickers. I love color.

Atlas Book Page of Mineral Rocks

I was looking through a vintage Atlas I bought at the flea market for scrapbooking and found this page, and decided to use it as my surprise item because it will go with some of my travel photos. In Sedona, they have the beautiful Red Rocks which are rusted magnetite, I think. This is the perfect page.
