Actually, there are a few things I would do differently today than I did then,

but that's another post.

Hey friends, today I'm linking up with Shauna from Perfectly Imperfect,
one of my favorites! She just started a linky party called "25 Things".

The object of the linky is to write 25 random things either about your day or just whatever is on your mind.

It looks like fun! Here goes my randomness!

1. At 1:30 AM yesterday, my cell phone began vibrating.
I had received a text message that read,
"Congratulations, you're a first time auntie".
I was so happy, excited, tired...I wanted to be there.

2. Early this morning, I checked my e-mail and one message read, "Congratulations".

That's funny, I didn't mention my nephew to anyone,
what could they be congratulating me for?
Then I got really excited and thought, oh my gosh, maybe I won

a room makeover, or who knows what!

3. I was so humbled to have made it to the top 12 finalist at Whisper Wood Cottage for a chance to win a magazine feature. I was so surprised! The other projects are beautiful,

so I was honored to be part of that list. You can check it out by clicking the button on the sidebar.

4. After missing school for a whole week due to fever and other ailments,
my son is back in class. Do you know what they sent home yesterday?
A letter stating that the Chicken Pox is going around! Oh no!

Please don't get sick! My poor baby has been through so much
already, he's just getting over being sick.

5. I am so tired. I've had many sleepless nights recently.

I was up all of last week taking care of my son,

gosh if I took a photo now, I'd scare you off the web, ha, ha! Maybe not funny.

6. I've never had the chicken pox!

7. I want to go to a Blog Conference so bad and meet ya'll.

8. I am in love with my new homemade iced coffee!
Contains: Coffee, flavored cream, sugar and condensed milk, Yum!
Tip: Instead of ice cubes, use coffee cubes. Freeze left over coffee!

9. I'm currently working on my craft room/ office space.
My hubs built a desk out of pallets, wanna see it?
The photo on the top of the post shows a glimpse of the desk.

I'm thinking about painting it, not sure yet.

10. I wanted my walls to be somewhat grey, they are blue!
There's nothing wrong with blue,
but now I have to change my whole decor plans.
I'm not buying another can of paint.

11. I'm trying to figure out how to make a tabbed content navigator widget for this blog,
the less items on my sidebar, the better.

12. I don't like my kitchen, it is not us.

I have dark oak cabinets that look like they came out of the eighties,
but I'm afraid of painting them white. What to do, what to do?

13. I'm baking chocolate chip cookies today!
I will make Valentine's Day treat bags for the kids to exchange at their
Valentine's Day party. My son prefers toys only, go figure!
But I showed him the special chocolate that mommy is using for the cookies,
white chocolate with red swirls. "Okay mommy, but also some toys".

14. Okay! No problem, will do!

15. I finally got my corkboard done! I wrapped my cork board with burlap to make it
look nicer, something similar to this...

17. This morning as I read scripture, this simple reading calmed my heart & soul;

18. I want to accomplish some new things, and jump back into some
old things that I stopped doing about a a year and a half ago.
I want to "feel" like I did two years ago energized. I want to "Just Be".
I want to memorize bible verses every two weeks, I want to be able to give, give, give because it's such a wonderful feeling. I want to start running with my hubs,
I want to transform this house to make it feel like "us".
I want to take a photography class.

19. I am lacking in blog time, I've been so busy with everything else,
that I have to literally squeeze blogging and reading other blogs.

20. Uh, oh! I think the hubs is getting sick now, not good.

21.I just finished putting together the kids treat bags for tomorrow.

22. I started carrying my makeup in a zip lock bag in my purse.
Yes weird, but now I can find it without having to empty my purse.
My sister will probably say, that's cheap and unstylish,
I know, but I can see through the bag, so it's easy to grab what I need,
it doesn't cost me anything, it keeps my purse clean,
no more spilled powder and it fits easily in my purse.

How to Look for Wholegrain

At our home, we like to eat whole grains, it is an important part of our health diet,

but how do we know if we are buying the right foods?

The Dietary Guidelines recommend choosing products
with a whole grain listed as the first ingredient.

Now every cereal with the white check has more whole grain than any other single ingredient,

with the same great taste. You will see whole grain as the first ingredient on the ingredient list,

indicating that whole grain is the first and most prevalent ingredient.

We want to make healthy eating decisions,

but there are a lot of messages vying for our attention in the supermarket.

This can be especially true when it comes to determining which foods have a meaningful

amount of whole grain. Dr. Stork has some additional recommendations to help

you include whole grain easily into your diet. They include:

Start Early! The Dietary Guidelines recommend people get at least 48 grams of whole grain in their daily diets. Get a jump-start on the day´s nutrition by incorporating whole grain into your morning routine. For instance, when choosing cereal make sure whole grain is listed as the first ingredient. One easy choice is cereal with the white check, which have more whole grain than any other single ingredient.
Make Simple Swaps. Choose whole grain versions of the foods you love. Great options include whole wheat pasta and whole wheat bread or even whole grain crackers. Also, try different types of whole grain. Use brown rice instead of white rice as a side dish at dinner or popcorn, which is a whole grain, for a snack.
Don´t Judge a Food by Its Cover. The front of food packages provide good nutritional cues, but don´t forget to read the ingredients and check the nutrition label and side labels for additional health information. Cereals with the white check even include the amount of whole grain per serving on packaging.

How to Make Heart Shaped Pancakes (Re-Post) 2/12/11

On this cold, but bright and sunny morning, I decided to make a special Valentine's breakfast for my loving family. Their first clue of what I had been preparing in the kitchen was a distinctive scent that drifted into the living room and filled the air with a soft warmth, a sensation of comfort and mouth watering images of fluffy, warm goodness.

Their noses led them into the kitchen. As both son and father scouted the area to see what it was that was waiting for them, they saw the thick, hot, golden savory ivory and pink curves, sitting on white china plate enhancing their coloring. The mound of melted butter caught the morning light coming from the window, glittering and enticing them.

We smothered the pancakes with fruits, whipped cream and Red Raspberry Syrup and they were so delicious.

I have made shaped pancakes before, just not colored them in pink. I started with the basic heart shaped pancakes and suddenly I had the idea to play with food coloring. One thing led to another, then voila! I had pink, golden and light red pancakes.

Instructions:

1) These pancakes are not difficult to make; all you need is your favorite pancake recipe, either from scratch or a pancake mix of your choice, but make sure the batter is not too watery. You want this mix to be somewhat thick.

2) Put in a couple of drops of Liquid Red Food Coloring
into the batter until you reach your desired color, then mix.

3) Pre-heat the pan and place your Heart Pancake Molds or Heart Shaped Cookie Cutter in the pan, and grease the mold over the pan to prevent sticking. In this case, I had both Heart Pancake Mold and HeartShaped Cookie Cutter. Let them warm for a second.

4) Pour the pancake batter into the Heart Pancake Molds or Heart Shaped Cookie Cutter that is inside the pan. Let them bubble a bit on low/ medium
heat until it sets.
Once you see the bubbles on the top of your pancake, remove the Heart Pancake Molds or Heart Shaped Cookie Cutter. Remember that for cookie cutters you will need a tong, the cookie cutter will be hot. Do not touch it with your hands. At this point, flip the pancake over and cook the other side until lightly browned, the pancake is complete.

5) Repeat the steps above for more pancakes.

I was reading a book the other night and came across a line by
Margaret Langstaff that read; "Each of us is absolutely unique and irreplaceable
in the eyes of God".

It made me think, we are beloved, unique children of God- one of a kind.
God gave us special gifts and talents that we were born to share with the world.
But often that vision of who we are is obscured by the wear and tear of everyday life.

If you have been feeling a bit insignificant or unworthy, learn to see yourself as
God sees you. He does not see you the way you see yourself. Take your hopes
and dreams seriously once again, I know that I have and it makes such a difference.

Be true to your deepest self, and trust that God has a purpose for us all.
Each day is a new beginning. Holding on to old ways of thinking,
grudges and resentments, and worn-out ideas is self-defeating.
Now is the time to choose a fresh start and new attitude.

Start with an attitude of forgiveness for anyone who has trespassed against you.
And forgive yourself, asking God to help you make a fresh start today.
Be open to new ideas and new possibilities.
Remember that you've never been here before (today),
because each day offers a new adventure.

How to Make a Heart Wreath

I love this little heart wreath!

The different shades of pink and red bring out each individual heart.

On this post, I have included two different Heart Wreaths that you can make yourself,
thanks to Better Homes & Gardens and Everything Etsy.

The first one I'd like to share with you is this Paper Heart Wreath.

To make this wreath follow the link or:

Get several shades of pink and red paper.

-Scissors

-Glue

-1 Cardboard or heavy stock paper

-Heart shaped template (ex: heart shaped cookie cutters)

-Circle template--you may use a paper plate

Trace paper plate over card stock or cardboard.

For the inner circle, use a smaller plate or large can/ jar whatever you have on hand,

trace the inner circle.

Once traced, cut the circle carefully.

Using a heart template, cut several hearts in different sizes.

Glue them around the circle,

To add interest, overlap several hearts.

Continue to glue hearts until the card board is completely covered.

Let dry and hang to your heart's content!

Hello friends and Happy and Blessed New Year!

Today I took a brief moment to post a few photos from my trip to

Gran Ventana, DR and to wish you a blessed Year.

That's me up there with the floral dress & my sister on our first day at the beach.

Unfortunately, I didn't take my good camera, what was I thinking?

I tried my best to work with what I had and believe me, that little camera,

was not cooperative at all.

I loved the colors surrounding this little play ground

situated behind the hotel, right off the beach.

It was surrounded by palm trees and almond trees.

Honestly, the pictures do NO justice.

I wish I could have taken you with me.

Gran Ventana Beach Resort

Hello friends! I hope that your Holiday weekend was filled

with lots of Love, Warmth & Happiness.

We had a blessed Christmas.

We had a wonderful opportunity this year to spend

our Christmas weekend with my family at the

Gran Ventana Beach Resort, in the Dominican Republic.

I had a wonderful time and my son absolutely loved it!

The Gran Ventana offers a distinctive blend of sophisticated design

with the charm and hospitality of the Dominican Republic.

It was an all inclusive stay!

Beaches, pools, shows, activities and so much more.

The resort's lobby extends with beamed ceilings, a huge cast iron chandelier and a

view of the ocean as its centerpiece.

The water was crystal clear, blue and just beautiful.

We loved it!
