Comfort is what you have when God gives you the victory. Then, you can pass it on to others. ~ Raye Adkins

Maya Angelou writes, "We delight in the beauty of the butterfly but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty."

Life is a winding road and it takes us places we do not plan or want to go. While on it, we will find ourselves faced with challenges that test our endurance and belief systems. We will have our ups and our downs. The good news is that troubles can encourage or prompt us to discover some of the greatest successes of our lives.

Before exploring ways of getting through the struggle, I will start with the end in mind and some possible outcomes. Trailblazers often emerge as the result of a crisis they have successfully navigated.

Troubles teach us things we did not know and help develop new levels of awareness. As the metamorphosis occurs, you achieve what did not seem possible.

And on the other side of the experience, you may be transformed and better able to meet new challenges. Pioneers have found in themselves what ...
Read More of Today's Brilliance >>

sing wild songs of adventure,
invite rainbows and butterflies out to play,

Find an old country graveyard and walk among the decaying headstones. Browse the inscriptions as you become familiar with the sense of the place.

Now sit down on a grassy spot with your back to a tree, and visualize your own headstone in front of you. Consider what that headstone will say a few years from now.

Each of us has only a few years on this planet - whether we are the political leader of a great nation, or are a homeless person living from handout to handout. One day, each of us will be gone, and only the results of our deeds will remain. But which deeds will we choose to become our legacy?

Many people live their lives as if the goal of life were to accumulate money, domination over others, and sexual conquest. Yet, I wonder if those deeds are really the legacy they would wish to see immortalized on their headstone.

Some of the phrases I wish for my own headstone are, "Was of Service," "Created Happiness and Love," and "Left the World a Bette...
Read More of Today's Brilliance >>

Believing that those in impoverished circumstances can create change makes it happen. ~ Ruth Steinberger

We can all personally take steps to halt injustice or alleviate suffering on our own, and certainly our individual efforts can bring about substantial goodness and change. However, when we empower others to join us, our collective efforts reverberate like a pebble hitting the water... and our effectiveness grows exponentially, often in ways we would not have imagined.

If we presume that others bring meaningful information and dialogue to the table, they will come through in ways that they themselves often didn't expect. In communities in which suffering is chronic due to poverty, social isolation or even natural disaster, a sense of having the capacity to create change may be absent. By being a catalyst for change, we offer part of our self to the process by which change comes about.

Suffering always accompanies poverty and isolation. But when people do not feel the capacity to become effective they very often come to accept what is unacceptable. This isn't due to a ...
Read More of Today's Brilliance >>

When we stop talking and start listening, when we stop taking and start giving, when we do what we should instead of do what we want, the lessons will come in abundance. ~ David Kantor

Nothing you are told that matters, really matters! What do I mean by that? Well as we are raised, interact with other children, are taught at schools and then indoctrinated into our jobs and careers, we are constantly told what's important.....make a good first impression, look out for number one, find a stable job with good income, buy a house, buy a bigger house, buy a BMW etc. And so many times, we lose the idea of what's important to US and start to believe that all these things are important to us, and we fall inline.

But you are a unique individual. And what matters to everyone else, shouldn't matter to you.

What should matter to you, is what matters to YOU!

It's hard in the world of constant marketing bombardment to even discover what makes you happy, what makes you self-fulfilled and what you feel your purpose on Earth is, for your lifetime.

But that's the single most important thing. And the earlier you can discover this, the sooner you can h...
Read More of Today's Brilliance >>

None of us know when our last day in this realm here on earth will be, as each moment dies in order for the next moment to be born.

Know that we are not our experiences. What happens to the physical does not need to alter the spirit, the essence of who we truly are. You are not your stories, if you don't like your hiStory, tell yourself a new one, a more positive one. Create your story the way you want it to be.

In full knowledge that I am lucky to be alive, each day is a blessing. Each day starts with thoughts of gratitude. I believe when we are grateful for what we have, no matter how small, we bring blessings into our lives, those blessings may come as a smile from a stranger, a hug just when you need one, a meal when you are hungry, or simply the courage to find your way through a really tough day.

The two most important questions I ask in my life are, "What can I do for someone else today?" and, "What will I do for myself today?". I ask them in that orde...
Read More of Today's Brilliance >>
