Oh my oh my... I am in love! Just look at this stunning new tapware from Milli Axon. Im glad I haven't finalised my bathroom renovation yet because now I want to use these in it!!!!

I think they will go perfectly well with white Carrara marble tiles..... Hmmm time to start saving some pennies!!!

Sneak Peak Time - Auckland Home

Ever thought of moving to New Zealand? well I've found the perfect house there... and its up for auction in April!!!

Its a gorgeous renovated 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house that boasts reclaimed brick walls, exposed steel beams, American oak floorboards, brass tapware, and elegant black kitchen...

I could absolutely see myself living here! its a stunningly beautiful home and has lots of character.... the pictures speak for themselves...

Dalmation Print

I'm currently obsessed with Dalmatian decor... I love this black and white print, it can be used as wallpaper, furnishings, artwork or for a more subtle touch used as cushions... I think it looks very glamorous and chic! Especially when teemed with gold, or pink..

Here are some inspirational ways to use it in your home... so far I've bought two Dalmatian print cushions but haven't worked out where to put them yet! Ill keep you posted about that one!

Its started... the Block Triple threat

Well I must say that I am a bit over the dramas of the TV show The Block, however I do still like to see what ideas the contestants come up with so I've concluded that I will watch the Sunday night room reveals so I see the final rooms but don't have to put up with the endless dramas of the weekly show.

Bit harsh? maybe... but necessary!

So last nights first reveals was the bedrooms.

There are three new contestants that all delivered a bedroom, and then there are three previous contestants all vying for the last place on this seasons series.

I must say that the three previous contestants certainly didn't disappoint! I have no doubt they pulled out all the stops to try to win and get a place on the show as they really all did beautiful finishes and designs. So hard to pick a winner out of them !

We'll start with my favourite, Bec and George ...

I loved the chevron flooring, the warm colour palette, the bronze mirrored cupboards, the leather bedhead and the concrete and gold planter. A very calming tranquil beautiful room.

The next two contestants were equal in my opinion, first we'll look at Matt & Kim's bedroom. I love the details in the moulding giving it a very French boudoir feel to the room. And their colour palette was a winner too very warm and calm, with gold and black accents, very in vogue at the moment!

Then there was Darren & Dee. They ended up winning and got the last place on the show for this season, they did do a beautiful job, and had tough competition.
I love their pastel colour selection, its those warm tones again but they have added a bit of colour which is important I think.

The remaining contestants did a great job for their first rooms but as youll see in the pictures the don't really compare to the results of the previous contestants...

Tropical Paradise

Most of us aren't lucky enough to live in a tropical paradise, but that doesn't mean we cant make our home feel like we do! Decorating your home with a tropical feel creates a very relaxed fun and bright place, laid back and stress-free! and who doesn't want that! :)

You can bring real life tropical plants into your home or go for oversized tropical prints like banana leafs and greenery on wallpaper, fabric, cushion, bedheads, artwork.... the options are endless !

These fabulous larger-than-life prints are certainly make a statement. Just be sure that the other décor items in your room is kept subtle so it doesn't compete with this fabulous tropical theme.

Take some inspiration from these homes, they do the tropical theme with such confidence and they look great!

Shipping Container Living

I love the idea of turning a shipping container into a place to live, whether it be your home, studio, granny flat, holiday house...

This isn't a new concept and its been done for a long time all over the world, its popularity particularly high because it is a cost effective product, readily available, made of steel so they are really strong, and are also designed to stack on top of each other which is great if you want a double storey!

And if you want to add some design flair the options are endless, wrapping the container in timber slats to create a modern feel, adding decks, colourful facades, lining internally with plasterboard or timber...anything you like!

If this is something youre interested in, you'd just have to check with your local council that your design meets the Building Code of Australia and energy star rating for an energy efficiency home.

Grey Base

Grey is a fantastic colour to use right now, its really great if you're looking for a neutral palette where your furniture and accessories are the feature items that can be easily updated and changed to re-create the feel of the room.

You can brighten a grey base with reds and yellows for the summer and then tone it down with blues and greens for the winter. Such a great way to create a versatile space that you can change the mood of as often as you like.

Living walls are a beautiful way to bring the outside into your home... they are self sufficient vertical gardens that you can easily do yourself. These are a fantastic idea in a world of ever decreasing garden and outdoor space and can instantly transform your space!

Rugs Rule

A rug can change the feel and look of a room dramatically, but before you go ahead and make the purchase there are a few things you need to consider first...

Depending on the space its used for these layouts give guidance on what you should be looking for.

The fit
Rugs need to be in proportion to the room size and in keeping with your decor. A small rug in front of a large sofa will just look wrong.... As a general rule, treat your rug as an anchor point and be generous with it.

Zones
Rugs can also be used to define zones in your room, separating living from say the dining areas. Placing all the furniture on your rug and this will help differentiate zones.

Colours and Patterns
If your space is small its best to either choose light or soft neutral tones in your rug to make a room seem spacious, or deeper colours to create an intimate, more cosy feel.

Patterned rugs are great for anchoring your room’s colour scheme, and unifying your space. Colourful and busy patterned rugs will also be slower in showing wear and tear in high traffic areas.

Cowhide rugs have been on trend this year.. you can choose from the traditional look, or now you can also get rugs dyed in different colours or patterns on them.

Patchwork tiles are a collection of tiles of any theme, colours, shapes, florals, neutrals, monochrome or anything you like, that are mixed and matched to enliven the wall. They create a very happy, relaxed, carefree look, great for floors, walls, splashbacks, feature walls or feature floors!

Stunning Staircases

Do you have stairs in your home? I bet they aren't as awesome as these ones below!! Stunning, spectacular, and very cleverly designed, perhaps some not so great if you have kids around.... but they do look great!

The Australian Building Code regulations have rules to comply by when it comes to stair and balustrade design to ensure they are safe. Some of the staircases below wouldn't be in Australia because they certainly don't comply with our building code, but nevertheless they are great to look at. Here are some of my favourites for your inspiration today :) hope you enjoy!

Styling your bookshelf

Bookshelves can say a lot about who you are, your interests, tastes, dreams, travels and loves. Obviously books are the main purpose of bookshelves but you can create artwork in your bookshelf by styling it and showing off your personal treasures.

Some general rules to follow include:

1. Mix up shapes and sizes of your items on each shelf, large items and smaller items
2. Place books upright and flat to alternate them
3. Add photos, artwork, your own keepsakes or ornaments for that personal touch
4. Add different elements of colour and texture to keep it interesting
5. If you want some extra colour paint or use wallpaper in the backs of your bookshelves
6. Keep it uncluttered and simple

Strong Black

The owners of this stunning contemporary home located in Barwon Head Victoria, have gone very bold in their colour choices, particularly in their use of black throughout.

The black painted timber exterior certainly gives a strong feel to the home. Im really loving this look!

You then walk in to see gorgeous polished concrete flooring (one of my favourite flooring types!) , and grey block walls for a strong solid backdrop to the energetic and colourful interior selection.

Another unique feature of this home is the black ceilings. Its certainly not something many would consider (myself included!) but it works so well in this home, especially with the pop of artowrk by Clare O’donoghue.

The kitchen island bench was made from stacked rough-sawn cypress timber, a clever way to recycle un-used materials.

My Bathroom Reno

So I've been thinking about updating my bathroom... The existing layout is functional so that's not the issue, but the workmanship is terrible! Plus there is no waterproofing because when my house was built it wasn't a building code requirement ... so I think its time to rip it out and do it properly.

Its a small bathroom (unfortunately) so there isn't a lot I can do in changing the layout due to its size and position of the door and window. I've had a think about different options, like to move the bath to the end... have a shower over the bath... etc.. but Ive concluded that the existing layout is probably the best for the space. So it will just be new fittings and fixtures and new tiling! how exciting!!!

I've hopped onto the Reece website, they have this awesome Bathroom Planner on there where you can plug in the dimensions of your room and select their bathroom products, as well as flooring, lighting, windows etc to see how your bathroom will look.

Id really like a freestanding bath, but if I cant do that I could get a bath in a hob (which is what I have in my existing bathroom..)what do you think?

This is my favourite at the moment, but you cant really see the tile... I'm after a white marble look tile, floor to ceiling, I think it will help make the room feel bigger, and also luxurious!

Or this option with the bath in a hob? I was also playing around with different tile options on this one...

And then I was again playing around with different tiles designs... feature walls, colours... hmm so many options!

Do you like timber clad houses?

Timber for an external cladding choice is so versatile, there is quite a range in the materials, colours, installation method and finishes that you can select. This house in Seattle is a beautiful example of how timber can be used to create a modern home.

Ive never been a timber girl but have been slowly warming to it more and more because of places like these...they really create a beautiful architecturally interesting home.

The external cladding for this house is a composition of painted fibre cement which provides a neutral background for the natural cedar timber. Internally there is a contrast of black windows with white walls, and accents of natural cedar mixed with blackened steel.

Its a stylish mix of materials and creates a modern industrial style home but with a warm natural feel.

Home of Jenny Bernheim

I am besotted by this art deco Hollywood home I saw on Mix&Chic. It is owned by Jenny Bernheim (fashion blogger from Margo & Me), but it wasn't planned, infact it almost never happened.... but fate stepped in. Jenny was planning a big move from Los Angeles to New York City, but a few months before her one-way flight she met and fell in love with film producer Fred Cipoletti, and the move was soon cancelled.

“Meeting the man of your dreams will make you do funny things,” said Jenny. “Everything in life happens for a reason. And we were meant to be each other’s happily-ever-after.”

What a beautiful story.

And what a beautiful home!

A Copper roof..... Great James Street Design

London has some fascinating architecture from its vast history, many of which have been restored, but some unfortunately have been left to deteriorate. GMS Estates bought two dilapidated terraced Georgian townhouses in Great James Street in Bloomsbury with a vision of renovating them with contempory architectural design and commissioned Emrys Architects to make this happen. The property suffered bomb and fire damage during the Second World War and although there had been work done to the building, parts of it were in such disrepair that they were only suitable for storage.

GMS Estates wanted to create an office environment that broke the mould of confined working spaces, opening up the area to encourage easy communication between employees.

My absolute favourite feature of this building is the copper-alloy folded roof. It is such a clever design and beautiful at the same time, and Id imagine it would have been quite expensive to do too!

Underneath this structural feat is a beautiful asymmetric lofted ceiling with recessed lighting that accentuates the geometric planes and angles.

Other beautiful features of this design are the cantilevered timber staircase, and lime washed chevron parquetry flooring adding warmth to the office space.

The architects have done an amazing job in creating a beautiful contempory design in a two hundred year old townhouse. Do you like what they have done in this renovation?
