Organization Obsessed or Spring Cleaning

I find that I don't "rest" a whole lot. It's pretty common when you're a mom, or a business owner (or both), but it's also in my nature to never be idle. I find that my mind is always whirring with new ideas and I just can't seem to find time to sit around. Well, let me rephrase that, I can't seem to sit around without something in my hands.

I've been doing my typical "Spring Cleaning" of everything in my life. My home, my online shop, my ideas, my supplies, and it all begins with lists. Oh the lists. I have been called an organized person but it's not as it seems. It is because I have so many thoughts and ideas that if I don't write it all down, I am sure to have nothing accomplished to the fullest.

I have had days where, without writing down what I need or want to accomplish, I actually wander from one room to another picking up, putting away, and starting projects. It's a sure way to get yourself nutty. So, I try to avoid it with keeping on task. Schedules and lists are my way to do that, for now.

I've had so many projects that I want to do that I've had to add my ideas to my to-do lists too. Have you ever been in a place in your life where it seems that there is no down time? I'm in that place now. I know it's probably not healthy to go non-stop, so I'm actually scheduling time to relax or exercise or just chill. I guess it's gotten a bit obsessive.

However, one thing that is a constant is getting feedback and ideas from people. This is what helps remind me that I'm just like a lot of people. I'm doing my best and I'm succeeding in a lot of areas of my life. I'm learning better ways to be organized and to just have some fun too. There's never a moment when I'm not learning something new.

As I start some new requested art sketches, I am reminded of why I do this. Why do I keep going when I have so much going on? I love to make people smile or feel good. I enjoy hearing others tell me that they received one of my art gifts and how they love it. I appreciate when someone tells me shares with me what they feel when they see my art.

My passion has become my life and business; making art into gifts. Whenever I create something new, no matter how I need to schedule things, the time spent is uplifting and satisfying. And, that's worth all of the organizing and scheduling to get it accomplished.

I can't believe how busy life has been. Time is flying so fast and I can hardly keep up. There are moments when being a mom, wife, and business owner has run me over completely and I want a really long spa day. But I wouldn't change any of it because I am so blessed with all that I have in my life.

The wholesale and consignment part of my business is keeping me more busy than I ever thought. I have been going from one order to the next with very little breaks in between. But the most wonderful thing is to have friends or family who shop in a store tell me that they saw my products for sale. It makes me feel good to know I'm being recognized in the community.

After putting my Etsy shop on "vacation mode" for a bit, with the intention of totally revamping the shop itself as well at the products and photos, I reopened. I realized after a few weeks that I wasn't going to be able to do what I had planned and decided that updating while open was better than staying closed for much longer. So, the shop is open with new items being added and some "spring cleaning" of photos, descriptions, sections, etc. happening at the moment.

I have been a lot more absent from the online world, as you've probably noticed from my lack of blog posts, due to all the ongoing work. Building a business is a lot more than creating art or making products. I've been learning about packaging, inventory and invoices. I'm in the process of actually getting a business license with the name as well as tax id#'s all that jazz. We are officially stepping out of the "hobby" zone and right into the real-life "business" life.

Creative Seasons

Remember when we were in school, how we'd get "Spring Fever"? From age 5 until 18, we'd been programmed to work within a 9 month schedule of doing work and then taking off.

Well, our bodies and spirits are naturally set that way. Similar to "internal clocks" we have inner "seasons" when we are prone to certain highs and lows in our creative focus.

Whether it is during the same seasons of the calendar or not, we still tend to stick with these internal "seasons" that keep us moving or not.

Those moments where we have weeks or months of non-stop ideas bursting forward are wonderful. The ideas, projects, and new endeavors that we take on are great. We feel at our peak and details fall into place easily. This is the Spring "season". Everything is new and beautiful. It is springing forth from our minds and spirits like new buds and sprouts.

Just like the fabulous growth of the Spring, we have a "down time" where our ideas or energy tends to taper off. We find this time it is more difficult to stick with a project or come up with new ideas. We will feel as if we are forcing the creativity rather than letting it flow. The finished projects don't feel finished, the feel as if they aren't good enough at all. This is our internal "Autumn". It is when we feel more like moving on from the old and packing up for awhile.

Now, of course the Summer and Winter are more of an extreme to the neighboring seasons of Spring and Autumn. It is a deeper feeling of what we've been going through during the more productive or the uninspiring times. Similarly, though, these are also times when we feel a pull to take time off. Summer vacation or Winter break are something we get ingrained into our heads and can become more of a time to refocus our energies on other project types.

Another part of these internal seasons can be organizing and purging. I've found that in the Spring and Fall, I want to organize everything in my creative space. I find that a drawer will suddenly need to have everything in order. A shelf will need to be labelled and rearranged. It becomes part of my creative process (because the actual creation of projects can be so messy).

During the "down times" or lull in our internal seasons, I find that it's best not to force yourself to be creative in a certain direction. Instead, work on just finding inspiration, maybe in a new way. Start experimenting with different materials or mediums. Take out a journal or camera and start finding new ways to be inspired. Look at what other people are talking about or go to an art store and look at the new products coming out.

There are so many ways to be creative and inspired. I feel that when you are working with your internal seasons, you may become more productive than ever. It's never too late to pick up something that you've been dying to try or find out something new. Learning is part of growing and may become a great path to discovery.

What I Learned in 2011

There are so many parts of life that really will throw you for a loop. I know that my life is a complete roller coaster and, luckily, I like to ride them. However, I've learned so much about what I do and don't want as part of my life, that 2012 will be a bit of an adjustment, so to say.

2011's "theme" for my life was "Balance". I choose a word each year to be my go-to topic for what I want to base my goals and generally, all of my actions on. I would say it wasn't as balanced as I would've liked, but much more like a teeter-totter or maybe a pendulum.

That being said, I learned what I want my 2012 word to be by what I was able to learn during the past 12 months: "Thrive". Being a Military wife and a mom of a teenager and Autistic son as well as a (somewhat struggling) entrepreneur, I've found that some of the things that used to hold importance in my life, just don't take center stage any longer.

I'm sorry to say that the Internet with all of it's networks, pages, blogs, news feeds, and updates just don't hold the appeal they once did. Information overload is only part of it. The pull I feel to constantly update my status or tweet new links has become a little crazy. The thought of having to compete with the millions of other entrepreneurs and artists out "there" to get some attention is just me banging my head against a virtual wall. I've decided, I don't want to do it anymore.

My family has become a larger priority as the dynamic and needs have changed (again) and very much so. I've found that I cannot live on "auto-pilot" at the moment and being a full-time mom is necessary. I'm looking at the interaction of all relationships and realizing that some are just not as high on my priority list as others. As they say, misery loves company and right now, that's not the company I want to keep.

As a self-employed artist and business owner, I'm learning a lot about where I want to be "seen". I've decided that local businesses are more important and accessible than the world wide web seems to be. Funny, because for years, it seemed so much easier to sit in my living room, create new art, and sell it online. Not the case anymore as so many other artists and crafters are doing the same and have the time, energy and focus to keep the lime-light on themselves.

In a way, I feel that the challenges of 2011 have been a blessing in disguise. I find that the comforts of life that we can take for granted can be taken away so easily. I choose to see what is in front of me, prepare for the future, keep watch on issues that can cause havoc but be grateful for the blessings that are constantly cropping up, sometimes when I least expect them. Anyone can live, but I choose to thrive!

Thankful for Change

Wow, time is flying and I find that it has changed my schedule completely. Of course the Holidays are right around the corner, starting with Thanksgiving this upcoming week. There are more tasks to complete than I have time for but some things have been doled out to others so I don't have the brunt of it all.

I find that with all the changes going on, I've had to slow down, again, and really look at what I'm grateful for. The funny thing is, with all the ups and downs, I'm simply grateful for change. It's been an amazing learning experience and I've been lapping it up like a grande mocha with extra whipped cream.

On top of the list is the fact that, after my "No thanks" at a local shop I was really wanting to get into with my gift products, I got a "Yes" with a huge order to another local shop I've been going to since I was in high school. Then, right after, got another gigantic, enthusiastic "YES!" from a store (next door to the shop that told me "no", by the way), with 3 locations --- AND a HUGE order!!! Now, if that's not a lesson in patience, I don't know what is.

In the mean time, as I was creating sell sheets, image catalogs, order forms, brochures, and other packaging, I was also making samples and new products. I've really gotten into all the different items I can make with my artwork. One that I'm super excited about is my first ever 2012 Inspired Mama Designs wall calendar! That was such an exciting product to have made and I am ecstatic to be offering it in my shop.

There have been many other items being added and new sales here and there, making me realize that if I just keep moving forward, everything will fall into place. I've been working hard on creating items that continue to make people smile, but are also useful. Magnet sets, book bars (metal bookmarks), gift boxes, and a few other fun items have been slowly added.

I also made my very own wrapping paper this year! I took my artwork and designed it into sheets to offer gift wrapping services in my shop. It's amazing having my art be a part of every detail of a gift. I often look at it all and want to pinch myself at how much is going on.

Getting Out There

Something interesting happened today. I got rejected. But it wasn't a negative experience. Actually, it was quite educational. But let me back up a minute so I can explain.

For the last year I've been working hard at creating gift items out of my artwork. I started doing artwork for two reasons. 1) To de-stress....drawing always helps me withdraw into my own mind to think things through. 2) I wanted to build a portfolio of images as I'd love to be a published children's illustrator one day. I'm not currently going toward that arena at the moment, but it's still high on my list of life's goals.

My artwork has gotten attention as being colorful, whimsical, child-like, smile provoking, and fun. I like that. My purpose, overall, is to do something that inspires other. I want to bring products (whether artwork and gifts or writing) to people to make them remember a happy childhood memory. Creating gift items; greeting cards, jewelry, boxes, etc., gives me an avenue to show my artwork other than just paintings or prints.

Over the last 8 months, I've had a strong pull to sell my items at local shops. I was given a fluke chance in the current store I'm in, a consignment account I got before Easter. They carry my jewelry and have been very helpful on telling me what sells best. This experience is valuable for many reasons.

You see, when you set out to start a business, you do everything you can think of to be a professional. You work on best ways to build a product. Packaging and marketing ideas get worked on and then reworked again. Everything you do is to fine tune the way customers view your business. But, there is only so much you can do with ideas and research.

Sometimes, your best bet, is to just get out there. You need to get away from your desk or studio and just talk to those people who are your customers. Now for me, my direct customer is the shop owners. They, in turn, sell to their customers, my product. If they don't think my product fits into their shop, they don't buy from me. Simple. That's what happened to me today.

A shop that I've admired for a few years, am a customer of, and I considered my "holy grail" of shops, said "No". I had my appointment this morning. I worked hard for weeks, creating a "sell sheet", an "image sheet", an order form, and then a brochure. I fine tuned my packaging. I created samples of all my current products. I was ready and thought I had a great chance.

After walking in, I started putting my items I had so carefully packed, out on the counter and talked to the owner. She thought they were cute and chatted with me about the Holiday buying season (apparently I'm a bit late...which I knew). She enjoyed what I showed her, however, she said it "wasn't a good fit with her shop". I was bummed. I felt like I did all that work for nothing, not to mention that her store was the one I really really wanted to be in.

But I had talked to myself earlier and thought of "worst case scenarios". I figured that if she did say "No", I had a lot to be proud of. First of all, I did "get out there". I did make the call to go in and talk to her. I did make a catalog of my products and a brochure to give to shops. I did come up with pricing for wholesale and consignment. I did make samples with packaging that I can work with (and possibly fine tune).

She told me to call in late February for the springtime. She told me what her customers are looking for in products. She told me the type of packaging that works well in her shop. All of this was such valuable information that I wouldn't have known any of this if I hadn't called. She didn't turn me down cold. She said "here's the reason" and "maybe you can work on this" and "this is what I know sells". All things that, if I had researched it, would've taken me forever to find out.

So, I look at this as a golden opportunity that simply didn't turn out the way I originally wanted. But, I've got my samples....I've got my catalog and brochures...and I have a whole list of shops in my area that I can walk into and see if my products are a good fit for them. Because, sometimes the only way to really know is to just go for it! So, get out there!

Breast Cancer Card Campaign for Hope

Every person in one way or another has been affected by cancer. This month, being Breast Cancer Awareness month, I've decided to reach out, because my family and friendship circle have also been touched.

I know, firsthand, that when you are a family member or friend of a cancer patient, you feel that, no matter how much support you give, you never feel as if it enough. However, sometimes, reaching out for support and help can make you feel a bit more solid.

I can't believe how many changes and updates are going on in my world right now. School is in full swing with all the projects and taxi service (mom's of course) to get kids to and from events.

I'm just as busy as always with updates in my shop to get ready for the Holidays (Halloween is only a few weeks away!) and lots of new products as well. Autumn and Halloween artwork have been turned into greeting cards and jewelry. I've got some new gift items to finish up and list over the next few days too.

I've also been working hard on a "sell-sheet". Basically, this is a form that lists and describes my products (with pricing) and then shows a quick sample image. I've extended mine to have thumbnails of my images that can be chosen from to order products too. Then, to top it off, an order sheet.

What's all that about? Well, I've been pushing myself to get more local shop accounts before the Holidays. The sell-sheet is going to go to the shops I've already talked to and (hopefully) make appointments with to show my samples. My deadline is the 15th to have 3-5 more appointments. This is my way of getting some help to sell my products over the Holidays.

A very wise piece of advice I received a few months back was not to rely on any one website or business for the success of your business. For example, if you only announce your business or product updates on Facebook or on your blog, but nowhere else, you may be setting yourself up for a problem.

The reason being, if those sites go down or someone can't access them, you can't sell. But, if you branch out, diversify, and get many areas working to find you customers, you will find a lot more out there.

My goal after the Holidays is to get a formal website up. This will be in conjunction with my other shops and networking pages, but it will also be a go-to place for my local customers to place orders. I find that you have much more control over your business when you are the one doing the work.

Back to School Sale and New Items!

I can't believe how fast the summer went by! Two and a half months zipped through like no more than a week! But, I'm glad to have the kids back on a schedule (well, as soon as they get used to it again). Tori's in 8th grade and Jared's in 4th this year. They are both excited to be back and I'm glad too.

I've been creating more Art Greeting Cards for my shop using some new ideas as well as some old artwork (never used in my shop before). I've also been working more on my local area for shops to start carrying my products. I'll be working diligently to create a sample for each of my products along with a "sell sheet" that describes my products and the art I use for each with pricing.

I've had some great support and encouragement from family, friends, as well as local and online businesses. I believe this is the time to really focus on what I'd like to do with my business and my career (still working on the children's books to get published one day). It's a lot and I know it will keep me busy.

In the mean time, I'm working to keep everyone updated as often as I can. Although my other pages are not seeing the activity they once did, I will do my best to let you know what's going on. I know this summer has taken my schedule and turned it upside down. I'm sure you are just as busy and understand. That's the beauty of working for yourself. Although, I do want to get back into a regular habit of posting, right now, the best I've been able to do on a daily basis, is to check in with my Facebook Fan Page.

That being said, I've decided to "regularly schedule" a Friday FB Fan Random Giveaway. Because of the new rules on contests and such on Facebook, I have looked over what I can and can't do, and come up with this simple way to do giveaways.

No matter where you live or what's been going on in your life, take a moment to stop and say, "Thank You". It doesn't have to be to anyone in particular or for any one thing. But I do believe that we have cause to celebrate.

There are so many issues and tasks and problems that we surround ourselves with each day. It may not be intentional, but it happens. I want you now to turn the tables on those negative thoughts and think about what it is you're grateful for.

That's right, you know there are many wonderful blessings that are a part of your life. It may be a few small items like flowers blooming in your yard or checking something daunting off your to-do list. It may be that you could sleep through the night without a noisy neighbor infiltrating your dreams. It may be that your favorite shirt is clean today.

Whatever it is, from good health, a great haircut, a sale on shoes, or a family member coming to visit; celebrate it! We do have many fabulous things, however small, that make up the smiles and giggles to add up to a great moment or day. What do you appreciate and welcome into your life?

Oh, and those terrible, horrible, no good, very bad moments that make you want to run screaming down the street? Think of them as a reminder to hold on tighter and appreciate even more the beauty and joy that does come your way. Because we all have our ups and downs, but it eventually comes full circle. And the more positive and uplifting things you recognize, the more the bad stuff seems more like a skinned knee than an amputated foot. You may have to limp along, but you'll heal and get through it.

Now - let's get down and party!

Summer Updates

Hello to my new readers and my ongoing supporters. I know I've been M.I.A. for a few months with rare posts, but it has been a whirlwind last few months. Now that it's Summer, I'm spending as much time offline and more with the kids.

I've been pulling craft books from the library and we are finding new ways to create things like "garages" for the hot wheels or hair accessories for the soon-to-be teen. We are also finding fun recipes or game ideas.

One of my favorite things to do with the kids in the Summer is see what we can come up with around town. We have been lucky enough to be in Sonoma County where the home of Snoopy is located. There are signs of the Peanuts Gang all around our town and we plan on finding as much as we can to enjoy.

I've been working some on my Etsy shop when I have a chance. I've recently updated listings for my 5x7 Art Prints and am getting ready to upload new Art Cards as well. I have many plans, just not quite enough time. But that's OK. I know you all understand since you are probably just as busy.

Planning My Summer

As you know, I'm not on the computer a lot these days. I've got my kids home for the Summer and although I'd wanted to have them set up in camps for most of it (after last year's fiascoes), I couldn't really afford it. I had to do a lot more planning to make this Summer more engaged, fun, and interesting.

The time I've spent off the computer has helped me to plan and focus for the Summer activities. I have to be more creative because we can't really spend any money (having them home is more expensive than at school, so there's my extra budget money right there). But I was determined not to be defeated. I knew I could do it if I had some patience and creative focus.

So far, I've decided to do a few things that I think may help other parents (in case you hadn't thought of them already). I was excited because I was able to use my training as Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leaders as well as Art Teacher and School Volunteer. I'm trained in many areas and now have to pull it all together to sell it to the kids too. Good thing I also have a degree in Marketing...it may come in need.

For the first idea, I decided to make a list of everything that I thought we could do around town, in our county, and in the SF Bay Area (near enough to spend the day). I then gave them a chance to write a list (a work in progress) so that they could think of activities or destinations that interested them. I also asked them to write their first choice of and also a less expensive option for their Birthday Parties (July and August).

Next, we will be making a scrapbook. They will get to decorate it and prepare it as they wish. We will be taking photos of things they've done, places we've gone, people they've gotten to see, and items and projects they've made. This is a favorite of them both as they enjoy photography quite a bit. Then they will write the date it happened and a small blurb about what it was and why they enjoyed it.

By the end of the Summer, they should have a memory book that will remind them that they did do some cool things, even if they couldn't go to camp or on vacation. This will also give my son, who hates to write, a chance to practice his handwriting skills. It will keep me more engaged with them while we work through their lists as well.

My other ideas were that we could have two jars or cans (I have large Ovaltine cans that work) and label one "Free" and the other "Costs Money" (in the past they have said "Local" and "Out of Town" or "Quick Trip" and "All Day Event"). We will cut up the ideas on the lists on strips of paper and add them to the appropriate cans or jars. Then, we can choose what we want from the can at the time. If we have a few extra dollars, we can choose something from "Costs Money"...it's a way to keep it a surprise without one kid getting to choose the day's activities.

Another idea is something that has been done at both of my kids' preschools over the years (when they were that small), as well as in Girl Scouts. You either choose a theme or a country. Either way, you design every activity around that theme or country. It can go on for weeks if you want or do one per day. It's a lot of fun and keeps the kids engaged and learning as well.

For example, if you are choosing countries, you can give the child a passport and hang up an atlas map with map pins. Then, you go "around the world" by doing activities, making and eating food, singing songs, playing games, learning words in that language, looking up the flag and maybe costumes, etc. from that country. When the time you've set up is done and ready to move on, you put a "stamp" in your passport.

When choosing themes, you simply have predetermined choices that interest the child and keep them engaged. Some ideas that have worked well and activities can be adjusted by age group are:

The Zoo
Camping
Circus
Broadway
Road Trip
Around the World
Sports
Space Exploration

.......and more.
Get all of your activities related to the actual theme together. If you are doing "camping", have a tent and do hiking; make s'mores; read a map and compass, etc. If you make the whole day about that theme, you can really get carried away. There's tons of info on the Internet or the library if you do a search under kids activities and put the theme name in.

I hope this has helped you. I realize now that the key to a happy Summer is this:

Stop and Smell the Roses

How often do you hurry through your day on auto-pilot and totally forget to breathe? I know I do on a regular basis. Sometimes, I will do it for days or weeks before I realize that time has flown by.

It usually takes something like getting sick or something in my schedule being thrown off completely before I slow down and focus. There is nothing wise about that and it's not a positive way to live.

I am fortunate to live in a beautiful part of town with older neighborhoods and gorgeous gardens wherever I walk. I like to take my dog, Joey, out with me so that I have a good excuse to get outside. This time of year, it's so beautiful to see everything blooming and feel the sun on my face.

Taking my cue from Joey, she's one of those dogs that stops and sniffs everything around her. She can't go more than a few feet (if that) without planting herself to smell all the scents of the neighbor's yards. Joey is a good dog and will begrudgingly follow if I pull the leash a bit, but she ultimately wants to stop and sniff.

I have learned a lot about patience from being a military wife and a mom of 2 great kids (if not somewhat challenging) and a sweet and strong willed dog. The illusion of being in control is just that, a myth. We can go along in that auto-pilot, blinders on attitude throughout the day, but we must stop and smell the roses once in awhile.

It is good for the soul to slow down and focus on something as simple as the beauty of the world around us. No matter what the day or week holds, you can't have total control and you shouldn't try to. Find the things around you that make you happy and pay attention. If you find joy in accomplishment, be grateful for the steps it takes and see them for the gifts they are.

There are so many things around us to be appreciative of. It doesn't have to be big, just give you a chance to smile. So, stop and smell the roses or whatever it is that makes your heart soar. You'll be better off as you find those positive moments bring balance to the rest of your day.

Working It Out

Something about this time of year makes me want to be outside with my camera. There is so much going on...so many changes. Flowers and trees are blooming, gardens are being renewed. Birds and butterflies are everywhere. Even the weather changes and clouds take on a whole new wonder to me. I want to capture it all.

I've been very stagnant lately. It isn't for lack of want or even need to create. I just simply have not had the energy. It could be my allergies or the fact that the end of the school year is so busy. I'm not sure, but as you've seen from the blog, I haven't been around a whole lot.

So I decided to do some thinking. Why am I feeling as if things are not motivating me lately? I do this a few times a year. It's a bit of overwhelm from going non-stop and being "ON". It's also just a change inside me. I try very hard to come up with new ideas and inspire others. Sometimes it just clicks off, like a fuse that's been blown, and I have to wait a bit to get things fixed again.

I know this about myself from lots of years of trying to fight it. I don't anymore. I let people know I've got "down time" coming and not to expect a lot from me. I do what I must (chores, etc.) and the rest goes by the wayside. It's not a big deal but sometimes can be a bummer.

So that is why I was thinking about what it is that could help bring positive energy back to me again. I love taking pictures and miss doing it. This is the perfect time of year to do it. I know there's a lot of great ways to show your point of view from photos. This helps me to work out what it is I'm going through without worrying about the end result.

See the thing about finding inspiration is that you don't have to "do" anything with it. You can just enjoy the process. You find something that makes you smile and you go for it. It's a journey....and I'm enjoying it. I hope you do as well.

I am a stay at home mum that makes and sew beautiful things for what you do every day on Etsy. Mostly one of a kind aprons but I am constantly branching out and trying new and inventive things for the home.

I have been doing this little more than a year, it started when my kids (twins) were 3 and I needed some gifts. As someone that is constantly cooking and cleaning, aprons had always been a favourite. I wanted to do better than the store bought ones that I had seen, so I dusted off my sewing machine and got to work. Once I started I couldn't stop, I was altering patterns and adding personalized touches.

I am inspired by other mother/artists/wives who are in the same boat as me. We are all trying to create special things for the ones we love and share that with others. We inspire one another. Right now, my children inspire me and keep me motivated. We are all working on balance. I want them to see me succeed.

My goals are mostly to increase my sales, and reach a bigger audience and to find new ways of making the home, our environment, beautiful.

If one were to start an online, in this case an Etsy business I would suggest shopping around first and taking note of what you see. From there I would say, just go for it and never stop learning.

The Journey Continues

Every day is a brand new one. Sometimes it doesn't feel like it. Often, to me, it seems as if the day (and my to-do list) continue on and on while I only nap for a brief moment at night. You know what I'm talking about (I can see you nodding your head right now).

I've gone back and forth with what I want to be doing. I have my duties as a wife and mother which seem to never end (or get crossed off my list). I also have so many interests and put my heart into each one, that when something doesn't work out, I feel as if someone has taken a scoop out of my heart.

But there are also days (or weeks) when things go really well. It's not always whole days, sometimes it's small snatches of my time here and there. The point is that there are good moments among the not so great ones. Of course, it really is all about perspective.

At any time, we may be looking at the same exact snapshot in time and see two different stories. I find that opinions vary on what we should be happy or excited about. Sometimes it's the silliest event (or so it seems to the other person). Other times it has real value and makes a difference to the worth of your spirit.

Let's just think on that for a moment. Where our positive inspiration comes from isn't so much the content as it is how we perceive it. You can shut out the negative toxic banter and bring in all the affirmations you'd like.

But, if you don't believe, with your heart and soul, that you are surrounded by something truly uplifting and good for you, it may not make any difference in the scheme of things. It's like eating a healthy salad filled with the best vegetables grown in the most wonderful environment and then drowning it in super high calorie dressing. What's the point?

Today, choose to look at something that may not give you a happy feeling and say, "there is something good I can see in this situation"....and then find it. No matter what your original opinion was, change it to see the positive. You can do it! It's only a matter of changing your perspective.
