Aussie Curves - Leather

This week I wondered if I'd ever invest in a leather jacket. At the time I was sulking as this weeks Aussie Curves challenge is leather. I don't own a jacket or skirt of the leather variety. Then it dawned on me. I own leather! Slaps head. I own two items that are leather. Better yet, they're both items I'd gladly share and flaunt.

I love my 3 Annies camera bag and my TS14+ boots.

What's not to love. They're both gorgeous. My boots are super comfy. If it's been raining they can be a little slippery. I've had them about a year and I'll be wearing them again this winter. If I was currently working I'd be indulging in the 2013 styles. These boots have proved a fabulous addition to the wardrobe. They work with many of my outfits. These days when I need to venture out, my ugg boots are slipped off and these go on.

My 3 Annies Camera bag is all kinds of fabulous. It's a handbag with loads of style. As a fashion blogger who attends events (and a keen photography enthusiast) my handbag/camera bag needs to be functional and stunning. The padded insert protects my camera and lenses. I'm surprised by how much it holds. For blogging events I pack my camera body with a lens attached, usually a 50mm. Along with another two lens (say my 24-70 and 85mm). A lens hood, my ipad, a spare battery, air blower, ipad connection kit, hair brush, purse, business cards, etc. This isn't the professional size. This is the standard Audrey Lu bag.

If you're wondering, it gets my 5 star approval. Both the service and quality are amazing!!

I owe many thanks to Marty from Arty Marty Travels. When I saw this dress on Marty I just knew it would look great on me too. We're similar in shape. I thought she looked stunning. I almost didn't buy it. It's from the UK. In the end I decided it would be something I would regret not owning. Turns out this style sold like hot cakes. So glad I didn't hesitate too long. During my research about the sizing, I found some other ladies wearing the dress. I suspect some readers might be wondering 'why Jeanie did you buy a black bag and black boots when you're always banging on about how colour is more flattering?'.

I have a pretty teal camera bag. I found it clashed with a lot of my outfits. Beside that bag not being 100% perfect for me, the colour often didn't work. I prefer to wear colour in my outfits.

I now have a great bag and awesome boots in black. Next purchase for a bag or boots I can venture outside that 'safe' colour. I also have these same boots in red. Purple boots would work with my wardrobe too. Next I've got my eye on a purple 3 Annies bag. Or brown or yellow. I keep changing my mind.

Aussie Curves - Time Saver

This theme was made for me. I'm essentially a lazy dresser. A gal who wants to look good but not spend much time getting ready.

My biggest tip is to ditch the iron. I buy most of my clothes at TS14+ and Virtu because there is practically no ironing required. In fact I can't recall the last time I ironed. My husband irons his own business shirts. Who am I to argue with that.

I like to indulge in things like bubble baths. Even if I have spare time, I rarely run a bath. In the shower I use a splash of essential oils on my skin. A few drops at the base of my neck or wrists. I use 'motivation' for a zesty kick in the morning. Lavender oil for relaxation. Not quiet the same as a bath, but it's close enough for me.

Before bed I have a quick evening shower. I use Nivea Face Wash Gel to remove my makeup. It's easy and simple. I've been doing it this way for years. There's no mess at the basin to clean up. I don't bother with a hand wash towel either. Although you could if that's your preference.

Some mornings I wake to find my hair is oily looking. It doesn't look good and won't style quickly. If I'm in a rush, a simple pony tail does the trick. Time allowing I wash my hair and loosely clip it back. Drying it naturally saves time as I can go about my day. When it's nearly dry I'll spend a few minutes with the hair drier. Saves a lot of time as my hair is long.

Short on time and got hairy legs? Leave them that way. This is where leggings or coloured stockings are a godsent. They make it look like you were making a fashion choice. This back fires if the stockings have a hole in them. Then there is some cursing. I love my purple stockings.

The quickest way to get dressed - know what combinations work best. Or keep it ultra simple with a one piece like a dress. As long as you know which shoes work best, it's a quick selection. Boots are my go to shoes in winter.

A quick glance in a full length mirror and I feel like the outfit is bottom heavy. I balance it out with some earrings and I'm ready to go. I store my jewellery in a handy way for quick selection. I wrote a storage makeover post showing how I store my accessories.

Aussie Curves - Heels

This weeks Aussie Curves challenges is heels. This gal has become accustom to wearing ugg boots around the house. In Geelong the days are getting colder and shorter. I've tossed those aside to strut in my three favourite heels.

I loooove the colour teal. My teal Diana Ferrari heels are lush. They're my most favourite. I ummed and ahhed over purchasing them for a week. Every day for a week I made a point to have lunch in town. Just so I could visit these pretties. After that we were friends and they had to come home with me.

I don't normally like to wear heels. They're not exactly practical. I decided I'd wear them around the office. Walking on carpet is kinder on the feet. Also I sat at my desk for most of the day. However that meant I'd drive to get lunch, instead of walking ten minutes down the road. That really was a trade off, on a sunny day I loved that walk.

The dusty pink and chocolate shoes are super cute. They desperately need a chocolate A-line skirt to go with them (that's on my wish list). I've hardly worn these. They still need to be broken in, despite buying them about three years ago.

The black pair I wore a lot in my 20's. You might say 'hang on those are boots'. I used to wear them as "heels". They seem like a younger persons shoes. I'm not ready to part with them yet. They'll return to the wardrobe. Perhaps this winter I'll make a point of wearing them a few times.

I attended a Designer Showcase for City Chic and Target last year. Both said come 2013 print was going to be huge. Cool, insider knowledge. However I didn't pay much attention. Prints weren't really for me. I didn't want to waste money on something I'd wear for only one season. That all changed when I found this pair!

I fell in love with the damask pattern. It's subtle yet totally rocks! At first I wanted to wear a plain top with the pattern. That seemed boring. Instead I opted to work with the colours. One of my favourite colour combinations is black and purple.

In most cases I have my jeans or pants taken up. These were the perfect length. The fit is very comfortable. They have a bit of give in them around the waist line. I now wear them with a belt. That's keep them sitting where I prefer them.

Aussie Curves - Pyjamas

I love wearing pyjamas. That comfy outfit where lazing and sleeping is encouraged. I could stay up all night and sleep all day. I try not to, but I could easily make that my lifestyle. My pyjamas are technical only half 'correct'. The bottom half are from Target. It was love at first sight. I adore the bright flower pattern. I ditch those before jumping into bed though.

The top half aren't actually pj's. I like to wear layers for a reason. It allows for some flattering draping. I find pj tops too flimsy and thin! Instead I wear a TS essential body tee to bed. Around the house I wear a jumper over that. If its cold, it gets worn in bed too.

Aussie Curves - Maxi Dress

I always thought my body shape and a maxi dress were never destined to be friends. An apple shape and a clingy dress. Didn't seem likely. Shame as I've heard they're easy to wear and style. Trying on a few recently confirmed my suspicion. That was until the staff handed me a particular maxi dress and said try this. The difference was that dress didn't have a seam along the bust line. BINGO! Finally a maxi dress that looked good on me. The other type made me look pregnant.

I can now confirm the rumours are true. A maxi dress is an easy go to option. They're comfy, easy wash. Can be dressed up a little. Or as I prefer can be worn around the house. I have a maxi dress in black, blue and a multi colour striped version too.

How to add more colours to your wardrobe

I'm guilty of buying new outfits and not sharing them. I know, I know. Bad fashion blogger. I purchased this dress (about a month ago) as I like the pretty colour combo and unusual pattern. The simple layering works a treat. I'm a big fan of layering, being comfortable, and looking good. The dress was ticking all the right boxes.

Pair the outfit with a sparkly ring and you're onto a winner. I wore this outfit to a casual breakfast meet and greet in Melbourne recently. I felt well dressed and confident.

I liked that I was adding more orange to my wardrobe. Adding a new colour was easy. The dress includes colours I usually wear. I'm now on the look out for an orange bangle. Also navy shoes that have some orange in the design. I can justify that purchase as I could wear those items with my orange skirt too.

Not sure how to add colour to your wardrobe?

Start simple with accessories like handbags, bangles, earrings, scarves, and shoes. This is a great way to incorporate seasonal trend colours too. You don't have to rush out and buy up. Unless you want to. Next time you're purchasing an item look at all the available colours. Don't stick to the safe black or neutral colours.

I purchase items based on a colour palette (after having my colours done). This works a treat as majority of my purchases 'blend' and work together. I knew buying this Swarovski ring in this shade of blue would work with other items. As it does with this dress. Same with the shoes I'm wearing. See what I mean?

Teal, purple, blue, grey and black are common colours I wear. When I'm considering a purchase I always ask myself 'will this work with most of my wardrobe?'. By wardrobe I mean my clothes, shoes and accessories.

In the photos I'm wearing a black body dress. I've since bought a white Luna Shoe String body dress. I prefer this dress with the white. The draw string from neckline is quiet long. It seems to clink often. Usually when I'm in the kitchen it clinks against the cupboards. Nothing too bothersome, but I always notice it. Overall the dress is a winner. I get lots of compliments and it makes my boxy shape look feminine.

Aussie Curves Melbourne Meet

Saturday the Aussie Curve gals took their online friendship beyond the computer screen. A meet up was organised for Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. All on the same day.

Some said it felt like a first date and were nervous. And more importantly, what would they wear?! Most of us were meeting for the first time. Since moving interstate my desire to met like minded women out weighs any fears. Plus you just know there will be no shortage of topics to discuss. With Aussie Curves there's blogging, clothing brands, style trends, Bloggers we admire, conferences. And that's before we get to anything about our personal lives.

What I don't like, is walking up to a group and asking 'are you from the 'wedding forum', 'is this the B-School group'? More than once I've been late, or early, and had people look at me weird cause it's not the right group. I wanted to make it super easy for everyone. I resorted to colourful balloons on a tripod. That worked a treat. I did look like a crazy lady sitting on my own for half an hour. Wasn't all bad, it was relaxing and the gardens were beautiful.

Whilst there were just five of us here. There are many more Melbourne Aussie Curves bloggers. Others had work commitments or such. I was thrilled to get to know Kylee, Omega, Kerry, and Ally. We enjoyed a lovely afternoon yakking, eating and laughing. We each brought a plate of food or some drinks with us. It was kinda crazy, there was so much on offer.

The one bummer of the day... was that the ground was soaking wet. My granny undies got soaked. Nothing undoes one's confidence like walking around with a wet bum. I assume the grounds were well watered for the wedding that was happening later that afternoon. Hope the bride wasn't wearing a long gown.

Aussie Curves - Body Con

The Body Con theme for Aussie Curves has come and gone. I missed the boat thanks to my PC dying. Long story short... The computer store fella that was assigned my PC, was away sick for two weeks. Apparently no one covers the work of anyone else.

Anyways, I didn't want to miss this theme. It feels like a milestone. An place mark of how far I've come. Long ago I confided in a friend. I told her 'I feel like a boy. There's nothing feminine about me'. She looked at me and simply said 'well you always wear black or grey. You're thing is shorts and bagging tees'. She gave me a look that said 'really are you surprised'.

In school I was a year older than all my friends. A year older, therefore naturally a bit bigger. In year seven some of the girls had started wearing training bras. I probably should've gotten one in grade six. I didn't have to pretend fill them, I really could've. Everything about me was bigger. My boobs, my waist, my thighs. Now I look back at photos of that time and wonder how did I get it so wrong. I wasn't 'big'. I was actually normal for my age. I just happen to have a few petite friends. The slimmest of the slim were the ones I looked at and wondered why I was so fat.

That's what makes me so happy when I look at these photos. I like look a girl. I might not be the slimmest girl. My waist is still an apple boxy shape. I don't care. I look & feel like a girl.

Top 5 Style Savvy Travel Packing Tips

I received a 'Boarding Pass' to a TS and Virtu event. Destination: Preview our New Autumn Collection. Woot! I was one happy fashion blogger. If you ever receive an invite to attend a store event, GO! There's typically drinks, nibbles, and often cool prizes to win. They're also fun.

The theme of the event was Creating a Travel Friendly Wardrobe. I felt like I could've gotten up and spoken about this. This is why I love TS. Very little ironing required. There is a lot of mix and match versatility. My work wardrobe and social outfits often overlapped.

Due to a lipstick crisis I missed out on the 'guess how many items of clothes are in the carry on suitcase' game. I arrived fashionably late (and therefore didn't stand in the ideal spot to get photos. Sorry these will have to do). The lady that did guess the magic number of items won a voucher. Oh snap! Super sorry I didn't arrive ten minutes earlier.

The fashion show took us on a journey. Showing what you could wear on the plane, to a meeting, and for social drinks. Then what you'd wear to play tourist. That's a huge reason why I love TS and Virtu. The clothes are versatile. I pinky swear, I say that from own experience.

This week I'm feeling wild with the Aussie Curves theme 'animalistic'. I love when a women looks fierce in a sassy animal print. It's not my thing though. I bought this skirt for the tribal challenge. Although I'm fond of the skirt, my bright orange or pink skirt are the ones I always grab first. Do you play favourites too?

The cardi I am wearing is a regret purchase. I love the weird hem line and dark plum colour. However I'm left asking myself, 'what do I wear it with?'. I suspect it would look awesome with jeans. I stopped wearing those when my waist line started expanding. Today I'm a happy fashion blogger, as the cardi works with this theme.

Aussie Curves - Nature

This weeks Aussie Curve theme is Nature. How does one wear 'nature'? My mind wandered. What if I stood in a field and took photos. Umm, I did that recently. What if I wore leopard print. Nope don't have any of that. I've gone all 'interpretive dance' on you this week. I'm wearing a dress that reminds me of a sunset. A mix of red, orange, blue and white.

It used to bug me that I'd dress up for work, and not home. Why were my colleges more important than my husband? Or me. This dress was to be something feminine and non fuss to throw on. It is comfy and easy wash. Not what I'd call easy wear. I'm self-conscious about the bra that can be seen via the large arm holes. I don't mind flashing some cleavage. I've got plenty to flash. This cowl neckline is a little too revealing for me. Maybe some clothing double sided tape would fix that.

I'm wearing a large. The model is stated as wearing a medium. I figured I'd be a large as my curves are more curvy than those of Fiona Falkiner. I'd love to try a medium. However, if she's a medium, I figure I've got the right size. If flashing your bra and cleavage doesn't phase you, the dress is currently on sale with free shipping from Sydney.

Aussie Curves - Purple

I thought there was a lot of purple in my wardrobe. It works really well with my dark hair. Turns out there's slim pickings. I'm a fan of the combo purple and teal. In this outfit I've paired purple and blue. Close enough.

Compared to recent weeks, today I'm a bit casual. That's real life. We wear various outfits. Be it work, socialising, or running errands. We're wearing what ever suits the task. I don't get around in edgy and glamorous outfits all the time (I wish). Spy me at the supermarket and I'll be more casual like this. Probably minus the curly hair style and eye liner.

Aussie Curves - Texture

I love my orange skirt. There's very little orange in my wardrobe. Making this piece unique. Run your hands across my thigh. Besides me giving you a puzzled look, you'd enjoy the lush texture of the fabric. You would've seen it styled a different way in the orange theme.

The purple top is mesh which has a coarse texture. It's not too rough, especially when you wear a tank under it. The wedge shoes has a smooth fabric. Don't you just love those bright colours! The wedge base has a distinct woven texture. Add a few bangles for 'sound' texture and that's my outfit complete.

Wear the wet look pants you said. Second Hand take 2

It's been bugging me. I'll admit it. I knew last weeks outfit wasn't working. Couldn't put my finger on it. I built the outfit around the shoes. That was the part that was wrong. Wrong. WRONG!

I was tempted to wear the wet look pants. They were a hit for the 'dark' theme. That would be recycling an item. I should've done that. I tried something new. A sweet purple skirt. It was fine. Fine with the top and cardy. Not fine with the shoes. We all knew it. It didn't work. You even suggested it in the comments. Try the wet look pants you said. Okay I just might.

I think these are the grainiest photos I've ever taken. Let's say I did that on purpose. (Hello high ISO). I feel much better about the outfit. You were right. Feels like I'm rockin those shoes now! I'd totally wear this out. There's something about these pants. They posses a power. You put them on and BAM. Instantly feeling sexy.

Aussie Curves - Second Hand

This week Aussie Curves has me searching for second hand and swapped items. Op shops aren't my first choice. However I do love to discover a treasure or two! I also think swapping clothes is the perfect way to exchange something you no longer wear for something new.

I bought these blue shoes at my local Op shop in Pakington Street. They were $25 and brand new. That's pretty steep for a second hand store. It was an 'upmarket' op shop. I've found the shoes extremely hard to style. I'm not even sure I'm making this outfit work. The shoes are crazy high and slippery. If I was every going to wear them, it'd be for this challenge. The red jacket is from the clothing swap party I attended at PSWA in Sydney.

Welcome 2013. This year I'm a Goddess! No seriously.

Hope you're New Year has been awesome. I've been back at my desk for a week. Tinkering with the blog layout. Last redesign (in November) I promised myself I wouldn't change it for a year. That didn't last long. The page load time should be much quicker. See I'm always thinking of you.

FAILING AT NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS 101

This holiday break I crawled inside my head space. And got stuck. I feel like I've failed at New Years resolutions 101. Seven days into the new year and a light bulb goes off. I'M IN NEW TERRITORY. Loosing weight wasn't the easy pick. I went and became happy with who I am. Hooray, sweet dreams are made of these!!

I'd like to be healthier sure. Fit even. But not for the predictable reasons that make 'this year I'm gonna get skinny' top of the list.

2012 I wrested with depression and anxiety. I was diagnosed December 2011. Exactly twelve months later I ditched the happy pills. All was awesome. For a bit. Boxing Day I sobbed uncontrollably. No sales for me. I didn't feel sad. Yet the tears wouldn't stop. I wept for hours. This isn't the first time I've broken down like that. It also happened when I lived in Brisbane before 2008. Has that ever happened to you? It's the weirdest thing.

A DECISION + DOSE OF SELF LOVE

I decided my medicine would be a dose of good old fashion self love;

- A regular bed time routine. (I struggle big time with this)
- A healthy diet. (I would call my diet healthy. My 102 kg body says otherwise)
- Some exercise. (I'm scared of starting. I know its gonna hurt)
- Daily dose of sunshine. (I love coffee in a sunny spot)

Some meditation and lots of hugs from my husband would be good too. I explained the new plan to Mark and he agreed. He's a man that rarely takes pills for anything, including headaches. The new plan was an easy sell.

MAKING GOALS IS MAKING ME DIZZY

Okay new 'self love' plan decided Boxing Day night. Come January and I start pondering the year ahead. It's kind of a big one. That day job I wished would go away. Well it did. The last six months I could've chosen to sit on a beach all day long. Instead I've worked extra hard. I'd have been less busy at my old day job! I'm busy and the bank account is half of its former self. How does a blog make money again?

I manage the following list...

1. Write my blog goals
2. Focus on my well being
3. Spend more quality time with Mark

The list swirls around my head until I'm dizzy. It feels like this years resolutions are important. It shouldn't be this hard. I want to move forward.

I LOVE THE INTERWEBS

Have you heard 'when the student is ready, the teacher will appear'? Of course you have. I stumbled across Leonie Dawson's web page. Oh my gosh!! I devoured many of her videos that first day. I'm captivated by this women who calls her viewers 'Goddess' and 'gorgeous soul'. I kind of like it. As odd as it sounds, it reminds me that I have the power to heal myself. I'm on a new self love journey remember. I'm hooked.

Leonie sells a Create Your Incredible Year workbook + planner. There's a Life edition and Business edition. Woot. I joined her Goddess network so I could receive all her products (meditations, e-courses, workbooks) for one tidy price. I'm thrilled. I found a way to get out of my head. I've completed the first section for each book, and for me, they have been powerful.

SO IT BEGINS

I've avoided blogging, for fear of getting busy as a distraction. Today my lack of goals is making me anxious. I head outdoors. I took a picnic blanket, my water bottle, ipad, and my new workbooks. I listened to one of Leonie's meditations. I thought I'd selected a quick 10 minute session. Turns out I selected a long 32 min chakra healing meditation. A half hour of focusing on relaxing, whilst being outdoors, was heaven! (I so love my ipad!)

After that my mind was calm. I opened the workbooks. At first glance they appear simple. When you get into it, there's a lot to it. I can see why all the reviews praise them so highly.

I'm working on both. This year both my personal life and my business life feel equally important. It feels good to be unravelling the 'stuck'.

Aussie Curves - Shorts

This week for the Aussie Curves Challenge, I'm wearing shorts. I've owned this pair for about two or three years. I love them. Besides being incredibly comfortable, they can be dressed down or up. Last week I attempted to buy new shorts. Admittedly I only tried on one bright blue pair. Even though they were from the same store, the fit wasn't as comfy. I'm happily wearing these ones again. I also wore them for the Picnic Challenge, with a more casual look. Do you find that? If something works, no point buying something new.

I'm very excited about wearing these earrings!

I wanted to wear citrine and pink tourmaline gemstones. For their stunning colours and gemstone meanings. After searching high and low for that combination I gave up. I found a solution on Etsy. Orion Designs had earrings with citrine stones. And another pair with tourmaline stones. Score! Having a large stash of jewellery tools and supplies I decided I could combine the two. That was over a year ago! I finally sat down with my pliers. They're my new favourite accessory.

Aussie Curves - Bling

This week I'm gettin my bling on! I've always thought of 'bling' as tacky. Nice. But cheap looking. My goal was to create a sophisticated look with sequins and diamantes. I have the wonderful designer Gisela Ramirez to thank for this dress. Gisela brought this item along to a clothes swap party. Thank you. It's a little shorter than I'm used to. The sheer layer that's a little longer helps me feel more confident wearing it. (It also helps if I don't lift my arms).

Aussie Curves - Mixing Patterns

I don't do patterns often. Not that I mind them. I just don't own many. A quick search of my wardrobe and I discovered circles and stripes. Score challenge met! Even better they're of similar colours. The stunning dress is designed and made by Ann Martin of Audrey Lane. It's custom made to my measurements. I also got to select the fabric combination.

This week I purchased an ebook The Ultimate Hairstyle Handbook. I am a ponytail girl. It's easy and I'm lazy. In an attempt to cross a few more items off my 'Ten Inspired Wishes' for 2012. I had a crack at #2 which is 'learn to style my hair'. At least now I've got an inspiring how-to guide. Not bad for my first attempt at a fancy hairstyle.

I'm of two minds about sharing this video. I struggled to convert the file type. Then failed to add the Aussie Curves logo. It's corny sounding, but hey I'm sure you'll get a giggle out of it.

Whether it's giving chipped nails new life. Or painting them from scratch. Your nails can bring your outfit into party mode. Perfect timing for the seasonal celebrations.

The hardest part will be picking which nail polish colour/s you'll use. Do you find that? I started painting my nails like this because I could never settle on just one colour. Water marbling helped with my lack of decision making. However this method is quicker.

I have a blog topic idea list. Sharing my photography progress is one of those ideas. It's low on the list, as it doesn't really help you 'look better' in any way. However, now seems like a perfect time to brag. Why brag? Because I'm counting on your friendship (yes I just pulled the friendship card). First let's check out my progress.

2011 vs 2012

The 2011 photo. Agggh!! Can anyone say frustrated. As an avid blog reader I aspire to the likes of Keiko Lynn's photography. Out of frustration with my phone's camera, I started researching digital cameras. Online of course. I decided on a Canon EOS 600D. With the help of a tripod and remote I've been taking my own photos ever since. Yep, I do it all.

Calling in the friendship bit...

This week I noticed Hypop are running a photo competition. Three winners become a Hypop Ambassadors for 2013. I hesitated. Not because I don't think their products rock. They do. Was I good enough? What do I know about photography. Not much really!

I came to the conclusion - I know a lot more than last year! So I entered.

I'm a bit like a sponge. No. I'm A LOT like a sponge. I devour photography ebooks, blog posts and magazines. Most of what I do is by trial and error experiments. Check out my first attempt with photography lighting and a sheet as a back drop. I think I'm the perfect person to test out Hypop products.

Aussie Curves - Orange

Aussie Curves has me wearing orange this week. I don't own a lot of orange, but it is slowly creeping into my wardrobe. This Virtu skirt sits under the knee. I pulled the waist band up to under my boobs. I like to wear my skirts short. The material has a gorgeous textural feel to it and is lovely to wear. The TS14+ necklace pulls the outfit colours together.

I think orange is a underrated colour. It goes with so much! Team it with black, navy or pink. Or do as I have and wear it with purple and persian blue. I love the bold colours. It's such a happy outfit. I was comfortable and felt stylish.

Until recently I never wore nail polish. As my nails are so short I liked the look of having that little bit of white showing on the ends. After seeing some the Aussie Curve gals rock their colourful short nails I was hooked. I find it hardest to pick just one colour. At least this time my colour combo had a uniform look about it.
