The song sobers me up and makes me reflect on how precious life is. Life is definitely filled with losses and wins, but it doesn’t mean that life stops. Gym Class Heroes and this song reminds us this. So quit dwelling on the past and push forward, things are gonna be alright peeps!

Penguin Prison is the brainchild of Bard College graduate, Chris Glover. Glover began making pop tracks as a joke but found that he really had a knack for it.  I guess the sound is considered “big boy” pop, as opposed to “girly” pop like J-Biebz. Penguin Prison mixes a little bit of everything, with influences such as: Michael Jackson, Prince, The Talking Heads, even Hot Chip. Take a listen and see if you can’t hear a little bit of each in these two songs, I challenge you to not jump around the room.

Penguin Prison will be releasing a self titled album on October 18th of this year, and will likely be touring soon after with a live band.  If the album is anything like these two songs you can expect it to be a pretty fun record.

I had a chance to speak and see Toki perform at Augsburg College during Spring 2011. It was real up close and personal, no stage, no guard rails, just students and him. Toki Wright is a very passionate, word-smith, trying to educated the youth on self-respect, the positive of music, and the hip-hop culture. Much love to the RSE family…keep putting Minnesota on the map!
