Grasshoppers are a snack lured by lights, trapped in barrels, and then fried up in a little oil with salt. The recipe may vary. Their coming coincides with the end of each rainy season espicially in Noverber and mid december. traped in metal barrels fitted with a pieces of corrugated iron sheets, grasshoppers become dazzled by the scotching lights at night. At dawn, they are collected in plastic bags and sold at roadside , and in major markets like Nakasero, kamwokya, owino. So be sure to taste this mouth watering snack any time to join the end less list of royal fans

The point to note is that, if these insects weren’t eaten, their would be devastating effects on the environment as they fload in thousands each year. The huge local consumption acts as a control measure in a way to ward off the dangers

consuming grasshoppers or Nsenene which are rich in protein,is a good source of nutrition to the populance.

As a Source of income too: free if you can spare a good night sleep and sell them expensively your likely to afford say eduction for your children, build a house or buy a car with a good harvest season.

Am going to skip the little disadvantages here

Uganda becomes oil producer

After years of painstaking exploration, Ugandans heard what they have been longing to hear - the discovery of oil in their country. The country's President, Yoweri Museveni, announced to the national. The discovery of oil could start Commercial production around in 2010, says the President.

Uganda's search for oil, which cost companies at least US$ 70 million, started in the country's western regions, with the oil blocks of Waranga 1, Waranga 2 and Mputa in 1989. An Australian oil exploration company, Hardman Resources Ltd, made the discoveries in June this year. Block 2, which is located in the northwest of the country and covers the northern part of Lake Albert and the surrounding onshore area. The most recent discovery, Waraga, is similar to the original discovery well Mputa, in that it has essentially three zones of oil bearing sands, according to the company.

With initial production of 6,000 to 10, 000 barrels a day, This will put Uganda among Africa's oil producing nations, chief among them Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Angola and Libya.

It has hitherto been managed by Kampala City Council.

However, the Bill that was passed retained the existing boundary of Kampala City and directly elected councillors and the mayor who will be be a ceremonial figure.

The Central Government will be responsible for construction and maintenance of roads in Kampala city if the Bill is assented to by the President. we hope this move will make the city mush cleaner and better run.

Am sure you have noticed that my last posting was so many weeks away. i encountered a personal lose of a loved one to Aids after a long illness (a childhood buddy) may his sole rest in peace

It's only natural that my first article after a long time would be on Uganda's War on Aids...

i have researched around and this is what i found

One of the most outstanding measures of Uganda’s progress has been the rapidly declining HIV infection rates among adults, from an average of 30 per cent 10 years ago to about 6 per cent today. However, one of the most tragic and alarming impacts of the pandemic is the impact on the children and youth: there are currently two million AIDS orphans in Uganda.

HIV/AIDS projects include encouraging tens of thousands of community members to test their blood and continue taking precautions against the spread of HIV/AIDS. In addition, building centers for thousands of children and youths affected by HIV/AIDS – for counseling and basic treatment, as well as for promoting HIV/AIDS awareness.

Another timely project i identified involved supporting families headed by children who have lost their parents to AIDS. The surviving children required counseling and economic help.

Assisting HIV/AIDS infected parents to write their own wills, thereby avoiding the incidence of AIDS orphans losing their rights to property and land to greedy and predatory relatives.

In addition, ensuring that children receive medical treatment, school supplies and support to run small farms.

what
Uganda has recorded declining rates of HIV infection. Although HIV prevalence among pregnant women rose from 24 per cent in 1989 to 30 per cent in 1992, by 1999 it had dropped to 10 per cent, according to the latest figures from the AIDS Control Programme (ACP) in the Ministry of Health.

Among patients suffering from sexually transmitted diseases at Uganda's leading hospital, Mulago, HIV infection rates fell from 44.2 per cent in 1989 to 23 per cent in 1999.

the high level of political commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS, openness about the epidemic, involvement of all sections of society and the government policy of decentralization. Even President Yoweri Museveni "got engaged in the fight early and encouraged other political leaders to do so.

GOOGLE OUT ON MANY MORE STORIES ON UGANDA AND AIDS ON THE WEB...

So why am i telling this? oh! i think you should hear it..
take good care and welcome to the pearl of Africa

regards

Huh!

local artistes like sexy Desire Luzinda, Bebe Cool, Mowzey Radio and Weasel with the controversial hit single Zuena performed. The emcee of the event is UK based Jackie Matovu who is currently Miss Uganda UK and Miss Commonwealth 2004 was stunning.

Despite the glamour and whose is who the show didn’t match to the event of the billing we where used to these days. Make a donation and Barclays will make a matching contribution. Over 5,500 readers have already done so, and joined the biggest development journalism initiative in the Guardian's history.

Thanks to the help of Guardian readers, real change is happening. 1,308 mosquito nets have been distributed to homes to combat the lethal spread of malaria, eight new boreholes have been drilled and five have been repaired, five schools have been fitted with 10,000 litre rainwater tanks, nine now have hygienic toilet blocks, and over 200 farmers have received training to reduce annual food shortages.
But there is still so much more to do. In Katine, 44% of families still don't have access to safe drinking water, while over 400 farmers need extra training. Katine's primary schools still need 12 more teachers, 43 more classrooms, 1,437 new desks, 2,000 more textbooks and 112 hygienic toilet blocks to meet national standards. These are serious challenges that can be overcome with your help. Check out Saturday's Guardian for more on Katine.
\

Regards

Mark King,
Site Editor
