Sovereign Hill Ballarat: A Journey through the Past

Back in school I never liked history as a subject! Maybe it was long chapters and too much information or the long list of dates of important events. Not sure what it was but after my graduation as an engineer and spending all my time with computers on my job I felt an inclination towards history and I started reading endlessly about world history. Whatever subject I may fancy, I googled it all..from World wars to colonial India. But history is just a fable agreed upon. Isn't it?

So to understand history the best way is to live it! Yes.. Live it!!
But how? I ain't have a time machine to travel back. But a small town in Victoria, Called Ballarat given you an opportunity to visit the past. Sovereign Hill in Ballarat is a live museum which re-creates first ten years after the discovery of gold in 1851 in this town when thousands of international adventurers rushed to the Australian goldfields in search of fortune. Below is a short travelogue of my visit to this beautiful city of Victoria, Australia.

We started our day in a rush to catch the fast V line train to Ballarat from the southern cross station in Melbourne. It took around an hour and a half to reach but time flew as we were lost in scenes which victorian countryside has to offer! The highlands, grazing sheep and cattle refresh your mind and you forget about city blues. As soon we got down, The old Victorian styled cafeteria at platform welcomed us with hot coffee to start our city tour! One can easily get map and information leaflets at platform 1.

Ballarat has many spots of tourist interest and offers a lot to explore which can take a couple of days. We were headed to sovereign hill directly which is a 2.5 km walk from train station. Thanks to google maps and friendly locals we reached there easily :) The entry fee (1-day pass/Non-VIP) is 55.50 AUD for adults and AUD 25 for kids (5-15 years).

As soon you enter the gates, you step back in time to the 19th century. The bazaar alongside the main lane has all sort of shops which you can imagine, in the 19th century of course!

The blacksmith shop, A confectionery offering colourful candies, the drapery, the grocery shop and a jewellery shop too. Apart from the shops, there are other buildings which are the essence of a then-booming town like a police station, a post office, a school and a theatre too!

We can see costumed actors on every corner interacting with guests. They make the experience much more real. There is a lot to do as well, A gold pour session, the mine tours, the horse carriage rides, the tinsmith and candle works to witness.

The whole place gives you a wonderful unforgettable experience and a perfect day out for little curious minds and adult explorers both!

Quick Travel Tips:

1. Leave as early as possible. Ballarat has a lot to offer, but if you are planning a day trip to Sovereign Hill, you better reach there when it opens i.e. 10.00 A.M.

2. Various activities are included in entry ticket which has certain timings like “Gold Pouring Demonstration” and Parade. You can check the timings in advance to plan your day accordingly.

3. There is a gold mine tour which is done in the form of three different stories.
a. Trapped.
b. Secret Chamber.
c. Journey through the Labyrinth of Gold

You can choose any way you want to have the gold mine tour. Every story has a different experience. Each type of tour will cost you around AUD 7.50. This tour also can take around 30 people at one time and they also start at some particular timings. So if are planning a weekend trip, book early as per your timeslots.

4. Public transport service is not that frequent. You can check timings for Bus Route 21 at :

5. Uber is not available in Ballarat.

6. Cab/Taxi services are also scanty from the Sovereign hill. So having phone numbers handy for taxi service will be useful.

How to Everify Income Tax Return with Kotak Bank

Indian taxation department has increased the tax filing date till 5th-August-2017 which is a good news for people who are yet to file their tax returns. And every year Tax department is making the tax filing lot easier. Last year we have the option to verify the ITR by getting an OTP with the Aadhaar card mapped to our account. But there are many people who still either don't have Aadhaar card or their phone number is not mapped to the Aadhaar Card.

This year government has added a new option to e-verify the tax return by the option of Net banking. These days almost everyone has access to net banking. If not, then we need to send the ITR submitted acknowledgement to CPC Bangalore office with in 120 days of filing ITR. But the easiest way to verify the ITR is by verifying through Net Banking. We'll talk about Kotak Bank here (as option from Private banks ) because most of the websites are showing it through the SBI (Public banks) online banking .

As a pre-requisite, make sure your ITS is filled and it's waiting for E-Verification part only.

Step A:

Login to Kotak Internet Banking and then either go to "Banking" Section or there is an option with name "More" as shown below.

Step B:

Select the option of "eTAX" from the drop-down and then select the option "E-Filing" (Income Tax) and below screen should be displayed.

Step C:

Verify that your account number and the PAN cards details are correct and click on Submit. You will be taken to Income tax Website.

Step D:

Select the "View Returns/ Forms " option to open the tax returns already filed.

Step E:

Select the option "Click here to view your returns pending for e-verification"

Step F:

Select the Option "e-Verify"

Almost Done: A New pop-up window appears. Click on "Continue" to generate EVC and get your income tax verified.

You will get the confirmation message with transaction ID and EVC code. You can download the acknowledgement and also it will be emailed to you.

No need to submit the physical ITR-V to CPC Bangalore.

But every night Sohni would cross river Chinab and go to meet Mahiwal. But one day Sohni sister-in law come to know of this and she replaced the pot which Sohni used to cross river, with an unbaked pot !! Sohni took this pot and cross the river but the pot melt in water and she is drowned and Mahiwal who saw Sohni drowning jumped in the river which was on full current also drowned trying to save her...!!!!!

How to start Apache Axis2 Standalone Server

Axis2 is distributed in several convenient distribution packages but we’ll be taking of Apache Axis2 here as a standalone server. Reason: you won’t need any WebServers like Apache Tomcat or Glassfish etc.

Requirement:

Bin Distribution packages of the Apache Axis2.
Java Development Kit (JDK). [Compatibility check with experiment. start with JDK 1.6.27]
Tested on Windows 7 Operating System.

Steps:

Download the Apache Axis 2 bin distribution and unzip to the location of your choice.
Install your JDK kit.
Add the paths of Java JDK and Apache Axis2 to the path in Environment Variable as shown in below screenshot.

Add the bin locations of the tools to the path folder.

Now go to command prompt and select till axis2 bin folder.
Run axis2server.bat
Verify that below should be coming in the output:

Now Type http://localhost:8080/axis2/services/ in your web-browser. If you see like below then congrats, your axis2 standalone server is working.

Troubleshoot:

In case your output after running axis2server.bat is like below only:

It means that there is a compatibility issue between axis2 and java version. Then try changing the java version. You might have to experiment multiple times with different java versions to make it work.

11 Israeli Olympic team members were taken hostage and eventually killed in an attack during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany, by the Palestinian group Black September. Shortly after the crisis began, they demanded 234 prisoners jailed in Israel and the German-held founders of the Red Army Faction (Andreas Baader and Ulrike Meinhof) be released. Black September called the operation "Iqrit and Biram", after two Palestinian Christian villages whose inhabitants were expelled by the Haganah in 1948.

Ali Hassan Salameh believed to be the one of the main orchestrator, responsible for the 1972 Munich massacre and other terror attacks.

After Black September's assassination of Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics in 1972, Prime Minister Golda Meir launched Operation "Wrath of God" to hunt down and kill all involved in the massacre. A team of five gathers in Switzerland led by Avner, a low-level Mossad techie whose father was a war hero and whose wife is pregnant. It's an expendable team, but relying on paid informants, they track and kill several in Europe and Lebanon. The operation is believed to have continued for over twenty years.

The movie is about that complete operation. Everything in this movie is just too good. It was not an easy job for mossad agents to look out for the one's responsible for the massacre. They must constantly look over their shoulders for the CIA, KGB, PLO, and their own sources. As the body count mounts, with retribution following retribution, so do questions, doubts, and sleepless nights. Loyalties blur. What does it mean to be a Jew ? It's a must watch movie.

This is one of the most inspiring speech, you will ever come across. He is talking about such a basic thing and we are so shameful that we have turn a blind eye to what is happening.

Where are we heading to exactly? May be to our doom. He is not asking much. Or rather, he is asking nothing. He is asking us to save ourselves from the time bomb which is ticking on our head and it's ticking pretty fast.

How to use Crop functionality in Microsoft Word 2013

Let’s say you have an image as shown below and because it doesn't look as good it should be, so the best way is to crop it as per your requirement and Microsoft Word 2013 gives us great different options to do that.

If you see the tool menu of Microsoft Word-2013, you would not be able to see any menu or sub menu to crop the image.

So how to do that.

First you need to select the image you want to crop. You can see in top of the menu, there will be new menu item Picture tools and FORMAT under that. Click on the format and new sub menu with more different options will occur.

On the right side below the format menu of Microsoft word, you can see the option of crop. If you start exploring different crop options, Microsoft Word 2013 gives us ample options to do the crop, which we will discuss.

Basic crop functionality is selecting the picture, then click crop and then dragging it to the area you want to crop like shown below:

After that you can try different shapes by selecting Crop - > Crop to Shape and you can choose any shape as per your requirement shown below.

Under the crop to shape option you can see there are different crop options you can use like Basic shapes, Block Arrows, Equation shapes, Flowchart, Start and Banners, Call-outs. Let’s try different options:

For Crop with one of the block Arrows, do as below:

And once you select the curved up arrow, the shape of the selected image or picture should be like this.

There is another cool crop shape under stars and banners that is explosion. Once you select it, this is how your image will look like.

This is really interesting and we can do so much with the pictures and can be used in different drawing, professional paper presentations and PowerPoint presentations. Such crop options gives us lot of flexibility to play with pictures as we like.

The last option is to select the different aspect ratio option which we can use for our pictures as show below. You can choose Square, Portraits and Landscape etc. to give a desired shape to the image.

So go ahead and try all the cropping options and make your image cool.

How to Remember Things Quickly: Improve your Brain Power

I am in habit of reading things but my weakness has always been just strolling through the material without many things sticking to my brain. So while reading a book I came across few points which I feel are good for increasing your remembrance while you read something. Here they are:

Slow down. The more you understand, the less you have to memorize.

Don’t just read. Stop and think. When the book asks you a question, don’t just skip to the answer. Imagine that someone really is asking the question. The more deeply you force your brain to think, the better chance you have of learning and remembering.
Do the exercises. Write your own notes.

If you are told to perform some exercise, do it. The author could have also done the exercises but if he do them for you, that would be like having someone else do your workouts for you. And don’t just look at the exercises. Use a pen/pencil. There’s plenty of evidence that physical activity while learning can increase the learning.
Read the “There are No Dumb Questions”

Each and every questions is important. They’re not optional sidebars—they’re part of the core content! Don’t skip them.
Make this the last thing you read before bed. Or at least the last challenging thing. Part of the learning, especially the transfer to long-term memory, happens after you put the book down. Your brain needs time on its own, to do more processing. If you put in something new during that processing-time, some of what you just learned will be lost.
Drink water. Lots of it.

Your brain works best in a nice bath of fluid. Dehydration (which can happen before you ever feel thirsty) decreases cognitive function.
Talk about it. Out loud.

Speaking activates a different part of the brain. If you’re trying to understand something, or increase your chance of remembering it later, say it out loud. Better still, try to explain it out loud to someone else. You’ll learn more quickly, and you might uncover ideas you hadn't known were there when you were reading about it.
Listen to your brain.

Pay attention to whether your brain is getting overloaded. If you find yourself starting to skim the surface or forget what you just read, it’s time for a break. Once you go past a certain point, you won’t learn faster by trying to shove more in, and you might even hurt the process.
Feel something!

Your brain needs to know that this matters. Get involved with the stories. Make up your own captions for the photos. Groaning over a bad joke is still better than feeling nothing at all.
Create something!

Apply this to something new you’re designing, or rework an older project. Just do something to get some experience beyond the exercises and activities in this book. All you need is a pencil and a problem to solve... a problem that might benefit from using JavaScript.
Get Sleep.

You've got to create a lot of new brain connections to learn to program. Sleep often; it helps.

Being a non Vegetarian is not a bad thing at all, but can't we act human enough to make sure that at least the Pigs are kept in Hygienic and liveable conditions before slaughtering them. We as humans have forgot that life is above before profits and fun.

Documentary Lucent explores the darker side of Australia's pig farming industry, highlighting the day-to-day cruelty accepted by the industry as standard practice.

The mother pigs are rigidly confined within a cage so constrictive that it only allows for the faintest of single steps. Once a day, they are beaten upright by factory workers to ensure that paralysis doesn't set in due to their lack of mobility.

Their tight living quarters also inspire extreme mental anguish, producing an agitation so profound that many sows have resorted to furiously biting the bars that enslave them, perpetuating further injury upon themselves in the process.

They endure a constant cycle of impregnation, and due to malnourishment and lack of proper care, they are often forced to watch their babies die and decompose before them. Their bodies are streaked with the scars and open festers of neglect, and their screams echo and multiply down every corridor of these chambers of horror.

These harrowing images mark the opening of Lucent, a shattering new documentary that sheds much-needed light on the unseemly environments and unethical practices of Australia's pig farms and slaughterhouses. Featuring a wealth of never-before-seen surveillance and handheld footage captured by a devoted team of animal rights activists, the film reveals a culture of abuse that has remained hidden in the shadows for far too long.

Akshay Kumar's 'Baby' banned in Pakistan. Can they stop pirated DVD's VCD's also ?

As largely expected, Akshay Kumar Starr-er Baby will not be seeing the light of day in Pakistan as the censor board of Islamabad and Karachi decided not to screen the film owing to its controversial content.

A representative of the film's distributor, Everready Pictures informed Dawn that the film has been banned in Pakistan.

“Censor boards in Islamabad and Karachi have decided to ban the film because it portrays a negative image of Muslims and the negative characters in the film also have Muslim names. CDs and DVDs of the film have also been banned in Islamabad. The company has taken a similar stance on this issue and will not go-ahead with its release.”

Now, This is becoming Regular activity. Any movie which says, in one way or the other, that all Muslims are terrorists will face a ban in Pakistan. But will it really impact? People will watch movie anyway either through pirated CD's or DVD's or Online in few days with perfect HDrip, 720p or 1080p print at comfort of their home without spending a buck.

What I am trying to say here is that who is getting impacted here? Pakistani Muslims ? Indian Muslims ? Hindus ? Sikhs ? Christians ? I would say not a god damn single person. The only people are at loss are the distributors or the theatre owners who always have Friday to look forward to for some fun and entertainment.

It is only Pakistani Entertainment industry who will be at loss. They don't see that their already going down Economy will go down further with such acts. So what will be the Circle ??

Ban a Movie. Loss to Distributors and Theatre Owners.
Food stalls at theatre will be empty. Some crowd might be there for other movies but there are movies which are crowd pullers (Hindi Movies in Asian Countries-You can't Argue that).
Already tired and fatigued people from their Jobs who wish to have some entertainment will again start looking for other options in dismay.
Less people out means less sale of products, less currency movement and no rejuvenation of overall environment of the Society.

You might contradict to what I am saying but if you think deeply then my points will start making some sense. Even though it might impact 15-20% of people who like watching movie in theatres but we can't ignore the impact one mind can have on other and that 15-20% of people can impact atleast 10-15% more and hence a overall fun environment everywhere.

Remember, They are doing all the harm to their own common people only who are tired of going through same orthodox life with threat to life Everywhere.

What to read in a Financial Statement

Like every Year December is the time for companies to release their Quarterly financial results and in few days you will be seeing the results of different companies for last quarter, i.e.. from October 2014 to December 2014. Since the stock which you own has its value tied to the financial health of the company so it is important to follow financial results. Because if the company grows, so will your stock's price.

Remember, these income statements are not just about profits and losses, it's about how healthy your stock will remain in future.

Here are few things which you should read in a financial or 'Profit or Loss' statement:

Cost of Goods Sold:

What is profit? It is simply the total revenues subtracted by the total costs. One of the key costs for a company is the amount it takes to build its product or service. This includes raw material prices, labour costs, warehousing and so on. A rise in this cost has a direct impact on your profit. So, while reading a financial statement, look at the 'Cost of Goods Sold' section. Have costs risen in proportion with revenues? If yes, then you have nothing to worry. However, if costs have increased greatly, then it means your company is facing financial pressure. This could translate to lower profits in the coming quarters if the trend continues.

Operating Income:

A company can also earn money from investments and other means, like selling a plant or old machinery. Similarly, it also spends for activities other than production of the good or service. These costs and revenues often fluctuate. Hence, it is important to understand just how much profit the company makes from its core operations. This can give an idea about the real profitability of the company. This is why you must look at the 'Operating Income' section. It is also called as 'Earnings Before Income, Taxation, Depreciation and Amortization'. Operating income is a difference between the sales revenue and costs of production. It is also called as 'Operating Profit'.

Interest Expense:

Companies need capital to produce goods and services. Once it earns money from selling the same, it pays back the money borrowed. However, it has to pay an extra interest for the capital borrowed. This is called interest expense. It also eats into profits. A high or rising interest expense is detrimental to profits. It shows that the company is paying more and more to service its debt. It is better to compare with the growth in profits and revenues. If the rise in interest expense is greater, then it is quite likely that profit growth will slow down in the long run.

Pre Tax Income:

Just like you pay income tax to the government, every company has to pay a portion of its income as tax. Looking at the pre-tax income and comparing with the final net profits will give you an idea about the company's tax liability. Similarly, compare growth in both the pre-tax and after-tax profits. This could tell you the rise or fall in tax payments. This too affects profits in the long run

Extraordinary Income/Expense:

Sometimes, companies post a larger-than-anticipated profit or loss. This could be because of a one-time extraordinary expense or income. For example, if a company buys another company, it has to shell out money. This would be reflected in the 'Extraordinary Expenses' section. Not all such activities may be announced by the company. So, keep an eye on this section. The laws mandate that the company clarify what has been classified as extraordinary income or expense. This would be printed lower down in the income statement. If a company is regularly selling old plants and machinery, it may indicate that it is winding down its operations. As an investor, you should then look for the company's long-term outlook.

The year 2014 ends up being the worst year for South East Asia. Firstly the mysterious disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 and then we heard that Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777, Flight-17 was shot down over Ukraine on 17 July 2014, killing all 298 people aboard and now another disappearance of Air-Asia QZ8501. What I am pondering here is how many breaths are we left with actually. Do we really know when we are going to die? Because of such uncertain incidents we are not even sure that we may not come back while going out for a walk or for work or for a tour. Recent act of terror in Pakistan killing 152 children will defend my words, so is the fate of two young souls killed in Sydney hostage crisis

So what are we fighting for actually all the times? Why can’t there be peace all around. And this very thought made me recollect the memories of the song written back in 2004 for Tsunami victims as a fund raising Activity..!! But that this song says much more than that.

Xaiomi Smart Phones Banned In India: VP Hugo Barra Open Letter to Indians

If you think about Value for Money Smart Phones then Chinese Xaiomi Phones completely fall into this Category. And because of competitive prices with high End Product Features, Xaiomi phones have captured Indian Market very well.

But as usual, because of the new Modi concept "Make In India" and India's never full trust on Chinese Technology because of theft or whatsoever reasons, the Xaiomi Smart Phones have been banned in India by Delhi High court as of now.

Although I don't deny the concept of "Make in India" which is very good for Indians but then why only Phones ? Ban all chinese product if you are so against them. Goverment will keep telling not to use Chinese Products but they won't ban import of Chinese products, obviously because of Profit Margins. I hope this ban is just a positive start for Indian Manufacturing Market but then India have to start manufacturing Products at par with the Chinese one if they need to get good hold of Indian Consumers.

Below is the News from Delhi High Court:

Delhi high court has put paid to Xiaomi's surging sales juggernaut in India. At least for now.

Hearing a case filed by Ericsson India against Xiaomi, the court on Monday passed an ex parte order forbidding the popular Chinese manufacturer from importing and selling its smart phones in India, according to a report by Spicy IP.

It has been reported that the ex parte order has injuncted Xiaomi from selling, advertising, manufacturing or importing devices that infringe the SEPs (Standard, Essential Patents) in question. It is not clear if the order will impact all Xiaomi devices sold in India or specifica devices that violate the patents.

In fact, the judge also directed the customs officials to stop the imports under the IPR Rules, 2007. Moreover, local commissioners too have been appointed to visit Xiaomi India offices to ensure the implementation of the order.

The adverse order in the case seems to have come about after Xiaomi allegedly ignored Ericsson's repeated communications.

As per the report, the patents in the Xiaomi case may also be the same ones which are the subject matters of litigation Ericsson had put up against Micromax, Gionee and Intex.

It's worth pointing out that Delhi High Court had earlier asked homegrown handset maker Micromax to pay a royalty that amounts up to 1% of the selling price of its devices to Ericsson for using the Swedish equipment maker's patents on technologies that are essential to manufacture the products.

Xiaomi had launched its India operations in July 2014 and the country is the second largest market for the company and also the fastest growing one, as per Xiaomi Global VP Hugo Barra. The company had sold more than half a million smart phones till October. It sells phones exclusively through online marketplace Flipkart via weekly flash sales in limited numbers.

Xiaomi sells one phone model at a time and is currently offering the Redmi Note phablet. Its premium smart phone, Mi 4, is expected to launch in Q1 2015.

And After this news of being Banned from India, Xaiomi VP Hugo Barra replied to all the Indians with an Open Letter.

Dear Mi fans,

We have been committed to continue our sales of Redmi Note and Redmi 1S devices in India. In the last 2 days alone, we received about 150,000 registrations for Redmi Note on Flipkart and the momentum has been terrific.

However, we have been forced to suspend sales in India until further notice due to an order passed by the Delhi High Court. As a law abiding company, we are investigating the matter carefully and assessing our legal options.

Our sincere apologies to all Indian Mi fans! Please rest assured that we're doing all we can to revert the situation. We have greatly enjoyed our journey with you in India over the last 5 months and we firmly intend to continue it!

Firefox showing blank Screen while Running with Selenium Webdriver

Working with Selenium Web Driver and Firefox for the first time is very easy but it becomes a challenge because of the common error which almost everyone face is that Firefox gets launched but it waits for some time with blank Screen and no URL is opened and it fails with below error.

The main reason is compatibility of Firefox web-driver and Firefox version installed on the System. So if your Firefox has been updated recently then also update your Web Driver version.

Current Version while writing this were:

Firefox Version: 30
Web Driver Version: 2.44

And it worked fine. So next time you find this issue. The first step is to match the Firefox version with the Web-driver Version of Firefox.

Please do post your comments if it still doesn't solve the issue. There could be other cause of the problem which could help others.

Note: Disable the Auto Update Firefox option so that they don't get unsynced again.

Meinu Fir tere naal pyaar ho gaya.

Ek do nai , Lakh vaar ho gaya

Par Meinu tere naal pyaar ho gaya.

Ajj kal tun bada pyaara lagda hai,

jado mere naal saari gall has ke karda hai.

Tere layi sab kuj karan da jee karda hai.

Apni jaan tere ton vaaran da jee karda hai.

Eh taan 22 chamatkaar ho gaya.

Meinu fir tere naal pyaar ho gaya.

Hoge Appan nu mile chaar saal.
