Here are few facts

Total vehicle registered in 2011 in whole India is 1,42,37,179.

3.6 lac vehicle registered with in the first 12 days of new year.

There are around 100 cars per 1000 persons in Delhi which will increase to 450 cars per 1000 in 2020 as expected

Delhi is adding 1000 vehicle per day to roads.

With so many vehicles added on the Indian roads. The process in public transport is that first roads are built and then traffic managment and then growth in vehicles. But in India process is reverse and So many vehicles are coming. There are not enough roads to handle vehicles. There is no parking and vehicle are kept on the road side. Traffic rules are worse as licence is issued to minors and that to at home. We see that traffic logjam is increasing day by day. With 1,34,000 road accidents death and 21 million serious injuries ,India is in top list of road accidents. With this structure International road federation (IRF) chairmain predicted that road accident will be double in 8-10 years. Roads are like arteries of human body and there are chocked by traffic jams which is increasing day by day. So in one view future of motor surveyors is bright but as a human we must think and act so than precious life and property can be saved. your views awaited.
In many a cases the theft by a driver is not entertained by the insurers under the pretext that it is not theft and is a breach of trust. Here is a decision from the National Consumer Commission which becomes an Authority to be guided for unless a decision contrary come in to force.

1. Remote keyless entry

Keyless entry systems allow you to unlock your car by pushing a button on a remote. The ability to quickly get into your car without fumbling for the key is an important safety feature, especially in poorly-lit areas. With most remotes, pushing the button once unlocks just the driver's door; you must push twice to unlock other doors, so there's no worry about a hidden intruder jumping into the passenger's side. Most also have a panic button that honks the horn and flashes the lights.

2. OnStar System

With OnStar, help from a real-live person is always just a button-push away. Got a flat tire? Someone following you? Just need to hear a human voice? Push the button. OnStar advisors can summon a tow truck or a cop, or just say hello. If your airbags deploy, they call you. They can even track your car if it's stolen and remotely let you in if you're locked out. OnStar charges a monthly subscription fee; the basic plan gives you the most critical safety benefits.

3. Anti-lock brakes (ABS)

Simple physics dictates that a turning wheel has more traction than one that is skidding. Antilock brake systems (ABS) watch individual wheel speeds; if one locks up, they pump the brakes far faster than a human could. Don't worry about giving up control to a computer; if the ABS system goes on the fritz (they rarely do) the brakes work normally. Do-it-yourselfers can still do their own brake jobs (though you must relieve system pressure before removing a brake line; check your repair manual).

4. Electronic stability/skid-control system

ESC systems use the anti-lock brake sensors (which show individual wheel speed), accelerometers, and steering wheel/pedal position sensors to figure out what the car is doing and what the driver wants it to do. If the two don't seem to match up, ESC does what no driver can: It applies the brakes to individual wheels and reduces power as needed to keep the car going where the driver is trying to point it. They are almost transparent and work surprisingly well.

5. Telescoping steering wheel/adjustable pedals

Most new cars have height-adjustable (tilt) steering columns; some cars have steering wheels that telescope (move in and out) and/or electrically adjustable pedals. The latter two not only make finding a comfortable position easier, but they allow shorter drivers to safely position themselves farther from the airbag while still keeping their feet comfortably on the pedals.

6. Rear-seat DVD player

Got kids? Movies-on-the-go can make long trips easier for both you and them. Many rear-seat entertainment systems include wireless headphones, so you can enjoy the stereo (or the peace and quiet). My own children would have TVs surgically implanted in the backs of their hands if they could, so in order to avoid turning them into road-going zombies I generally limit movie watching to long trips. They also make a convenient reward and/or dangling carrot.

7. GPS navigation system

Using the Global Positioning Satellite System and sensors in the car, GPS navigation systems can pinpoint your exact location and give you turn-by-turn directions (via a small video screen, spoken voice, or both) to help you find your way. Most will also guide you to the closest gas station, ATM, hospital or police station. They can steer you out of a bad neighborhood, they can route you around traffic, and no matter how lost you get, they can always help you find your way home.

8. Side airbags

Most cars have at least three feet of crush space at the front and back, but only a few inches of protection at the sides. Federally-mandated door beams help keep the car intact instead of caving in. But there's still the problem of inertia: While the car is being pushed away, your body (particularly your head, which isn't secured by the seat belt) wants to stay still, and it could go right through the side window. Side airbags cushion your noggin and help keep it safely inside the car.

9. Center console with power outlet

Open the center consoles on many new cars and you'll find a power outlet (a.k.a. a cigarette lighter without the lighter). These outlets provide a way to charge your mobile phone while keeping it out of sight. I'm dead-set against talking on the phone while driving (though I sometimes do it anyway), but it's good to know you'll always have juice to make a call in case of an emergency.

10. Roadside assistance

Flat tire? Dead battery? Out of gas? Traditionally, people have turned to AAA (US) or CAA (Canada) for life's little motoring emergencies, but many new cars come with roadside assistance as part of their new-car warranty. Several manufacturers even offer it as part of their "certified used" programs. That said, AAA and CAA memberships are inexpensive; with all the travel discounts they bring, your membership may very likely pay for itself.

IRDA guidelines to prevent misselling of insurance policies

Courtesy: hindustantimes.com

IRDA has issued these directives following complaints that claims are being rejected on grounds of delay in intimation and submission of documents to insurers.
“Rejection of claims on purely technical grounds in a mechanical fashion will result in policy holders losing confidence in the insurance industry, giving rise to excessive litigation,” the regulator said in a communication to life and non-life insurance companies.
Although the policyholders are required to file claims within a prescribed time frame, IRDA said, “This condition should not prevent settlement of genuine claims, particularly when there is delay in intimation or in submission of documents due to unavoidable circumstances.”
The regulatory direction is likely to benefit lakhs of policy holders, who face either rejection or delayed settlement of their claims on technical grounds.
So my question is this fire may due to this alteration, if yes the claim Is payable or not.

REGARDS,

R.S.Ananda Kumar

Bangalore.

Procedure of vehicle theft claim

My motor Cycle was stolen on 25/07/2011 and so far FIR is not lodged by the police. However I am following the police regularly. Then I approached the insurance company. Some person in the company told me to come with FIR copy. If the FIR is delayed, will there be any problem in claim; and what is the procedure and documents required of my theft claim ?
The insured put a claim of theft on 15th June 2011 stating the theft of vehicle on 25th May 2011. In his support, he produced a intimation copy to the police, stating vehicle lost on 25th May 2011. Police just made a stamp without any date. The FIR of subject vehicle was made simultaneously with other four vehicles dated 10th June 2011. During my investigation in police station, I found no record of exact date of intimation to police by insured and police could not make any satisfactory answer why the common FIR was made for five vehicles and delay of FIR. (in FIR, occurrence of all thefts mentioned is between 25th May 2011 to 10th June 2011.)
The insured made a excuse that he was away for some domestic job for 20 days and also waiting for FIR copy.
Dear Gupta Sir
Thank you very much for taking active participation in the discussion forum. You are one of the few persons from insurer's side who are taking active participation in the forum This is with reference to your statement- " Of course conveyance and photograph charges on notional basis is being paid seperately surveyors which in our opinion is sufficient if taken into consideration the actuals".

I beg to differ with your statement mentioned above.

Photograph charges- Expenses incured for photographs are already explained. There might be slight difference of opinion on the costs considered. But more or less the actual cost encured is same.

For Conveyance charges - I request you to go through the following points-

1. The cities and their municipal limits have expanded considerably and most workshops, garages and industries have shifted to the outskirts. The city limits of most A class cities from one end to the other are spanning about 40 - 50 kms and the urban agglomeration limits is about 70 – 80 km end to end. The distance between 2 points end to end in metro cities is about 60 kms. And agglomeration limits of metro cities are about 100 kms. from one end to another.

2.The time spent on commuting from point to point is much higher due to heavy traffic and the distance involved. This is also increasing the fuel consumption and yielding low mileage per liter fuel consumed, increased maintenance costs, accident repairs and breakdowns, etc.

3.Now the cost of petrol has almost increased by 250 % as compared to the cost of petrol in 2003. The rise in the fuel cost has also increased the running and maintenance cost of the vehicle.

4.The cost of the new car, EMI’s, road tax, maintenance, spare parts, tyres, batteries, insurance, etc. have all gone up by 200 to 300 % from 2003 to 2011.

5.In hilly areas the consumption of fuel is almost double and the average speed is less.

6. Day by day the purchase cost of the new vehicles are increasing and resale prices of the used vehicles have drastically dropped.

If we consider the above points; personally i am of the opinion that the cost paid to the surveyor is very less and needs to be revised atleast to 23 % of the cost of the petrol & Local conveyance should be increased atleast 2.5 times.

I would like to bring your attension to Circular- F. No- 19030/3/2008 E.IV; of Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India dated 23/09/2008. In the said circular it is mentioned that the government officer are paid the milage allowance as- By own car - Rs.16/- per Km & Rs. 8/- per Km for Scooter. If the said is applicable to govt. officers then why not to surveyors?

Request you express your opinion after considering the above mentioned points.

The job of a surveyor is very noble & respectful in the society. The professional is supposed to work as an eye to the insurer & helping hand to the insured. He is supposed to be a catalyst/bridge between the insured & insurer, keeping the interest of both of them & assess the loss as per best of his knowledge & experience, but without prejudice. As per ethics & law also,He is independent to be honest in assessing the loss without favouring any of the two.i.e.,insured & insurer.
Engineering back ground persons (except some areas, where other qualified persons) are required to get a licence of a surveyor.

In short,A surveyor is a qualified & takes the responsibility of a particular society,so should be given due respect by all.

Now my question is,whether my fellow surveyors....

are working as per their ethics & law?

are impartial at the time of assessing the loss & are not favouring the insurer ?

are working,loosing their dignity?

are getting our professional fees full as per tariff plan in time?

are getting due respect from less qualified/below standard persons?

are not using any unethical way (bribe or other obligation) to get business?

are not united for our common professional cause.

If you answer (any or all above) in "YES',please think over again, how long this profession will survive?

Let us start living with raised head

Thank you,
