What is a Backlink, and Why Do Insurance Agents Care?

A backlinks is simply a link back to your website from another website. The more your own insurance website links are spread around the net, the better chance you have of getting found! Major search engines tend to favor websites that have good quality (and quantity) backlinks. Plus consumers may click through to your website from another popular site on the internet.

You can, of course, spend a lot of time finding places to link to your own site, but there are some simple ways to do it too.

Insurance Agent Directoires

There are plenty of online directories that gather up useful information so consumers can find it. You certainly want to get your own website listed in some of these. You can submit to a professional insurance agent directory to get your own insurance agency listed.

This is one example - insurance agency directory. You can also submit insurance articles to this website, which is a good way to promote a particular area of expertise. Basic links are free now, but you must confirm your email address and wait for approval.

Get more information : Free Insurance Agents Directory

Other sources of links may be local directories and consumer forums. Be wary of looking like a spammer. But if you are willing to contribute to the discussion, you can usually drop a link into your signature.

Getting Your Insurance Website to Produce Leads and Sales

Almost all insurance agents have some sort of a website these days. But the comment that I hear from most of them is that their insurance website does not do a very good job of producing new leads, bringing in new clients, or of keeping the clients they already have.

Almost any website can be effective. I don’t care if you just spent $1,500 on development, got one from your company, or had your teenager throw up a free blog on Saturday afternoon. If you don’t feel like your internet signpost is helping you, you probably need to analyze why it isn’t working.

Problem A. This is the 800 pound ape in the room. You have no traffic. You have this fantastic website with all of the nice, warm, and fuzzy pictures, but nobody comes to see it! You need to find out how to bring in traffic.

Problem B. Of course, this problem can only be remedied after Problem A is solved. Some people visit your website, but they don’t respond. Nobody calls you, emails you, or is motivated to take any action from the message you deliver. You need a call to action!

Internet Visitors

Internet visitors can be attracted to your website. You can find a variety of free (nothing is really free) or paid advertising sources. Social websites, article directories, and organic search engine traffic are great sources of “free” traffic. I say nothing is free, because you (or somebody) will have to do the work to get it.

Call To Action

Your website needs to have a promise that it will solve a problem. If you want somebody to contact you about annuities, you need to make sure they understand why annuities can help them plan for retirement (or other goals), and why you are the best darn guy or gal to help them understand that. When you can offer a promise of solving a problem, answering a question, etc., people will pick up the phone and call you! If you can save them a lot of money on car insurance, they will want to talk to you!

You need to write effective copy that will motivate internet visitors to take one more step, and you need to make it very obvious what that next step is! If you cannot write that copy yourself, you may do well to hire somebody to do it. Do not assume that all web developers are also good copywriters.

One of the most important things that your website should do is to capture leads. Of course, you can publish contact information like your phone number, email address, and your physical address. But people do like to fill out foms, and when you give them a form, you can ask for the information you need to get started helping them buy insurance, and helping yourself sell insurance.

You can, of course, pay somebody to do this. Paying for lead captures could consist of hiring a programmer, or running a remotely hosted script fr

Agents want to make online sales, or at least generate online leads, and the internet can be a powerful lead generation tool. But you must understand the sales conversion funnel in order to make full use of automation. Otherwise, your insurance website will just be another site competing with thousands of others in a tough market!

Filter Out Qualified Leads

Imagine thousands of consumers who may view your message. Of all of those, let us say that 5 % are interested enough to get more information! So out of every thousand, imagine that 50 online consumers actually click through a link to visit your insurance website.

Those consumers read more, and perhaps 10 of the will be in the right frame of mind to act on your message. What do they do? They pick up the phone, click a link, or fill out a lead quote form. If you happen to sell an online insurance product, perhaps they will click through that link to find out how to buy online.

Out of those 10, you have filtered out of a 1000, perhaps a couple will actually purchase! But what have you done here? You have used the powerful automation of the internet to filter those 2 buyers from 1,000 consumers!

That is the power of the internet for generating qualified prospects!

You can generate internet insurance sales leads in a cost effective and productive way if you knew how!

With a troubled economy and the high price of gas, more consumers are choosing to travel the information superhighway to research, compare prices and shop for insurance. As consumers become more internet savvy, they are no longer content with insurance rates offered by their local insurance agency.

People Do Look For Insurance Online

The internet allows consumers the convenience of comparing quotes from a number of insurance agents and carriers in minutes, just by filling out one intuitive online questionnaire. ComScore, a preeminent media research group, has recently studied online auto insurance shopping activity in the United States. The study showed that 32 million people went online to shop for auto insurance in 2007, and over 12 million have actually purchased auto insurance policies. That’s a 37% increase compared to 2006. With such a massive flight of consumers to the internet to shop for insurance, internet insurance leads must be a major feature in your marketing portfolio.

Look at more of our articles about using internet insurance sales leads the right way to prosper - even during a down economy.

Is your marketing budget the first victim of the recession?

The problem is, just when many of us really need to talk to more prospects, we tend to cut back on our advertising budgets. Every marketing project assumes some risk, and risk is for boom times, right?

Well, when times are tight, it is much more important to evaluate how effective your marketing is. I would certainly go through my different marketing efforts and figure out which ones tend to produce better returns, and I would emphasize those. But it may also be time to do a gut check, figure out how to emphasize to clients the value of your products and services, and then set up some aggressive campaigns.

Think About The Risks Your Clients Take!

If you are experienced, you know what your clients buy, and you know why they buy those products. Slow economic times probably means that coverage is needed more, and not less. If a family is barely scraping by with 2 breadwinners, imagine how they would do with only 1! If the family car is limping along on the curernt budget, how can that family afford to replace it if they have an accident?

In July of 2008, about 1 in 400 US homes got a foreclosure notice, and state unemployment benefits average less than $400 a month. This is a supplemental unemployment insurance benefit, and you do not need to be a licensed insurance agent in order to sell layoff insurance online because it is a “membership program”, and since the enrollment can be an online process, you can handle supplemental layoff insurance like any other affiliate program.

I was browsing American Insurance Broker and saw a post by a company that offered appointment setting for insurance agents. Of course, without trying the service, it would be impossible to know if this would work well for your business. But I do know that when I have been lucky enough to have a good appointment setter working for me, I had my most productive selling periods.

I liked the fact that the appointment setting company took part of their pay as a bonus for setting an appointment that sold a policy, because we do want our appointment setters to be motivated by sales, and not by the number of appointments. A good warmup by a competent appointment setter can certainly make our jobs a lot easier when we actually visit with a potential client to talk about insurance options.

I have had experiences with the good, the bad, and the ugly in appointment setters. As I said, a good appointment setter can have you walking into an appointment feeling expected and welcome most of the time. A less exciting experience can have you welcomed with the client standing on the porch with his or her arms crossed looking like they are ready to call a cop. Of course, you may have experiences somewhere in between sometimes, but you’ll be able to tell by your profit margin in a very short time.

In this era of internet leads, quotes by email, and very often never seeing a client’s face, is bonding still something a good insurance agent should do? I mean, do you still sent our holiday and birthday cards or fridge magnets with a local sports team’s schedule and your contact info? Or do you just burn ‘em an d churn ‘em?

I would say that your approach should be directed by what you think your client wants. Part of this may be based on age. Older people expect their insurance agents to provide service, and they would rather pick up the phone to call you then login to an insurance website. Younger people, groomed online, may be irritated if you call them, and want to be able to click their mouse a few times to make simple changes and get information.

I don’t think it’s all about generations though, or Gen X vs Baby Boomers vs. Seniors in insurance sales. I think it also boils down to personality and style too! I have had senior citizens who wanted to be mailed applications and young adults who insisted I drive over to their office to talk to them.

So if you aren’t sure how you should handle a client, why not ask them? I think they will appreciate it, and that will be the only way you can really know how they want to be contacted.

I consider myself very internet savvy, and I do 90% of my professional work on the web. But the last time I needed to purchase a policy from an agent, I went with a lady I liked vs. the phone/internet company. Go figure.
