Cancer: a matter of terrain

From an Oriental medical perspective, cancer is a matter of the body’s terrain, the tumor microenvironment, and therefore a lifestyle disease.

Everyone has cancer cells in our bodies but not everyone will develop cancer. Why is this? What do we do in the west to “treat the terrain”? This is because cancer is caused by a cancer terrain with the body’s weakened natural defenses or immune system brought on with a cancer promoter lifestyle – smoking, drinking, eating high sugar and saturated fat diet, sedentary (non-exercise) habits, unmanaged stress, and social isolation – and can be cured naturally with an anti-cancer lifestyle that fosters an anti-cancer terrain by strengthening the body’s natural defenses. Environmental factors such as pollution, chemicals in our food supply and home, and side-effects of prescription and street drugs also contribute to the rising epidemic of cancer, however, without making lifestyle and behavioral changes within ourselves, cancer can’t be prevented and survival of cancer survivors will be short-lived.

Recent research shows that tumors grow and become malignant not only through genetic anomalies in the cancer cells themselves, but also through factors in the cells’ microenvironment. These microenvironmental factors include, but are not limited to, the ability of the cells to form blood vessels to feed the growing tumor (angiogenesis), the propensity for inflammation and stimulating inflammatory pathways, and suppressed cell-mediated immunity. The tumor microenvironment is the terrain that largely determines whether cancerous cells will grow or not. The body possesses a number of natural defenses that can create a barren, inhospitable terrain for cancer growth. These natural defenses are influenced and strengthened by healthy lifestyle choices such as a proper diet, physical activity, stress management, social connection, and limiting exposure to environmental pollutants.

Based from my research and experience of my clients and patients as a long time Chinese medical practitioner, I have written “The Cure & Cause of Cancer” and the other six books in You Hold the Keys to Healing to assist your nutrition and meditation and Qigong practices, and free yourself of your feelings of helplessness or hopelessness fostering an anti-cancer terrain by strengthening the body’s natural defenses. Following an anti-cancer lifestyle will not only prevent and treat cancer but also prevent and treat other chronic degenerative diseases as well.

Cancer is no longer a death sentence and can be cured naturally without the killing side-effects of cytotoxic chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.

Anti-angiogenesis to Treat Cancer

The important cancer cure word – Angiogenesis – is elaborated by Dr. Marc S Micozzi, MD, PhD, a National Cancer Institute’s Diet and Cancer Program senior investigator and author of “Complementary and Integrative Medicine in Cancer Care and Prevention”:

“Some natural ingredients address one very important aspect of how cancer tumors grow. This approach has generally been overlooked by mainstream cancer research and practice. Cancer cells grow very fast compared to normal cells. This is how tumors grow. But tumors also need an increased blood supply.

An innovative approach to fighting cancer involves preventing new blood vessels from expanding to supply the growing tumor. Angiogenesis is the process by which new blood vessels extend into a growing cancer tumor. Anti-angiogenesis prevents this extension of blood vessels and stops the growth of tumors. This observation was made experimentally decades ago. But only a few scientists have applied this knowledge to develop effective treatments.

Dr. Judah Folkman of Boston, who died recently at the age of 75, was a persistent advocate of using anti-angiogenesis to treat cancer. He devoted his research laboratory in Boston to developing this approach. His work has often been cited as worthy of a Nobel Prize in Medicine & Physiology.

Ten years ago I personally invited him to speak in Philadelphia to a standing-room only crowd of distinguished physicians and scientists when I was the director of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, the nation’s oldest and most distinguished medical academy. Fortunately, some work has continued along these lines to bring forward one of the important and unique aspects of natural approaches to cancer.”

“Cancer is a modern disease. But the modern approaches to managing it are more like tortuous medieval treatments. Including cutting (surgery), burning (radiation therapy), and poisoning (chemotherapy). These modern treatments are often worse than the disease. Just as they were in medieval times.

Of course, the hope is that we kill the cancer before we kill the patient. But in the majority of cases, while some tumors may shrink or be cut out, these treatments do nothing to extend and improve people’s lives in the end. And in some cases, may actually kill them sooner.

All things considered, why wouldn’t modern, “enlightened” medicine consider natural, safer alternatives? The safety profile for natural medicine on average is over 20 times better than chemotherapy. What ever happened to “first do no harm?”

Yes, the government does screen plants and natural products for anti-cancer activity. But, they only look at substances with the ability to kill cancer cells. Agents that kill cancer cells are also toxic to normal cells. This is what causes the terrible side effects of chemotherapy.

Whereas, nature contains remarkable plant substances that work in multiple ways. They can initiate cancer cell death without harming healthy cells, and can even transform cancer cells back toward normal cells, rather than kill them. This is a process called re-differentiation . This is a remarkable fact of nature. And it’s ignored by the cancer establishment.

Health Benefits of Meditation

The following scientific article from New Scientist shows the basic health benefits of meditation that have been known by the ancient meditation and Qigong masters of holistic – body, mind, spirit – eastern medical traditions for thousands of years and are just now promoted in the west for good health:

Before you dismiss meditation as some “new age silliness” consider this: It actually activates genes that perform beneficial tasks in your body. And it deactivates genes that can make you sick.

Breathe deep

It’s no secret these days that stress is more dangerous than we used to think. In fact, it’s a killer. But when you stimulate your vagus nerve, you reduce inflammation and activate a neurotransmitter that relaxes your brain and body.

And you can easily stimulate your vagus nerve by taking several slow, deep breaths. If you do that with your eyes closed while making a conscious effort to calm your mind… well, then you’re meditating.

Studies have shown that meditation may be the super pill we’ve all been searching for. It supports immune function, relieves depression, alleviates insomnia, and even helps control blood pressure. It also reduces levels of cortisol, the “stress hormone.”

In a new study, meditation activated genes that do three things…
1) Boost insulin production
2) Keep DNA stable
3) Improve efficiency of mitochondria, the cell powerhouses

But meditation also deactivated genes that play a role in inflammation.

In subjects who were new to meditation, gene changes occurred within minutes. But in those who had practiced meditation for years, evidence showed genetic benefits before meditation sessions even began.

It turns out, that long-term practice had actually locked benefits in place.

No doubt, meditation can be a challenge for those of us with Type A personalities that start getting our to-do list together in our heads. But this new research certainly makes it worth another look. The worst side effect? People may think you’re a new age hippie.

“This review deals with a small fraction of the large collection of clinical research on medical applications of qigong. The information presented is intended to illustrate the potential of qigong exercise for restoring normal body functions in people with chronic conditions, many of which accelerate the aging process. The main conclusion from many studies is that qigong exercise helps the body to heal itself. In this sense, qigong is a natural anti-aging medicine. Two studies indicate that qigong exercise is superior to some physical exercises.

Chemotherapy, a scientific wasteland

Chemotherapy is an invasive and toxic treatment able supposedly to eliminate cancer cells. Unfortunately though, its ferocious chemistry is not able to differentiate between the cancerous cell or the healthy cell and surrounding healthy tissue. Put simply, chemotherapy is an intravenously administered poison that kills all living matter. Repeated chemotherapy and repeated radiation treatments kill the whole body by degrees. The immune system is hit particularly hard by chemotherapy and often does not recuperate enough to adequately protect from common illnesses, which can then lead to death. Some 67% of people who die during cancer treatment do so through opportunistic infections arising as a direct result of the immune system failing because of the aggressive and toxic nature of the drugs. What is this if it is not death by doctoring?

Consider the following statement from cancer specialist, Professor Charles Mathe, who declared: “If I contracted cancer, I would never go to a standard cancer treatment centre. Cancer victims who live far from such centres have a chance.”

Walter Last, writing in The Ecologist, reported recently: “After analysing cancer survival statistics for several decades, Dr Hardin Jones, Professor at the University of California, concluded “…patients are as well, or better off untreated. Jones’ disturbing assessment has never been refuted.”

Or what about this?

“Many medical oncologists recommend chemotherapy for virtually any tumor, with a hopefulness undiscouraged by almost invariable failure.” – Albert Braverman MD 1991 Lancet 1991 337 p901 “Medical Oncology in the 90s”

“Most cancer patients in this country die of chemotherapy. Chemotherapy does not eliminate breast, colon, or lung cancers. This fact has been documented for over a decade, yet doctors still use chemotherapy for these tumors.” – Allen Levin, MD UCSF The Healing of Cancer

“Despite widespread use of chemotherapies, breast cancer mortality has not changed in the last 70 years” – Thomas Dao, MD NEJM Mar 1975 292 p 707

Senior cancer physician Dr. Charles Moertal of the Mayo Clinic in the US stated: “Our most effective regimens are fraught with risks and side-effects and practical problems; and after this price is paid by all the patients we have treated, only a small fraction are rewarded with a transient period of usually incomplete tumour regressions….”

Dr Ralph Moss is the author of ‘The Cancer Industry’ – a shocking expose of the world of conventional cancer politics and practice. Interviewed live on the Laurie Lee show in 1994, Moss stated: “In the end, there is no proof that chemotherapy actually extends life in the vast majority of cases , and this is the great lie about chemotherapy, that somehow there is a correlation between shrinking a tumour and extending the life of a patient.”

Scientists based at McGill Cancer Centre sent a questionnaire to 118 lung cancer doctors to determine what degree of faith these practicing cancer physicians placed in the therapies they administered. They were asked to imagine that they had cancer and were asked which of six current trials they would choose. 79 doctors responded of which 64 (81%) would not consent to be in any trial containing Cisplatin – one of the common chemotherapy drugs they were trialling, (currently achieving worldwide sales of about $110,000,000 a year) and 58 of the 79 (73%) found that all the trials in question were unacceptable due to the ineffectiveness of chemotherapy and its unacceptably high degree of toxicity.

The following extract is taken from Dr Tim O’Shea at The Doctor Within:

A German epidemiologist from the Heidelberg/Mannheim Tumor Clinic, Dr. Ulrich Abel has done a comprehensive review and analysis of every major study and clinical trial of chemotherapy ever done. His conclusions should be read by anyone who is about to embark on the Chemo Express. To make sure he had reviewed everything ever published on chemotherapy, Abel sent letters to over 350 medical centers around the world asking them to send him anything they had published on the subject. Abel researched thousands of articles: it is unlikely that anyone in the world knows more about chemotherapy than he.

The analysis took him several years, but the results are astounding: Abel found that the overall worldwide success rate of chemotherapy was “appalling” because there was simply no scientific evidence available anywhere that chemotherapy can “extend in any appreciable way the lives of patients suffering from the most common organic cancers.”

Abel emphasizes that chemotherapy rarely can improve the quality of life. He describes chemotherapy as “a scientific wasteland” and states that at least 80 percent of chemotherapy administered throughout the world is worthless, and is akin to the “emperor’s new clothes” – neither doctor nor patient is willing to give up on chemotherapy even though there is no scientific evidence that it works! – Lancet 10 Aug 91 No mainstream media even mentioned this comprehensive study: it was totally buried.

“Success of most chemotherapies is appalling…There is no scientific evidence for its ability to extend in any appreciable way the lives of patients suffering from the most common organic cancer… Chemotherapy for malignancies too advanced for surgery, which accounts for 80% of all cancers, is a scientific wasteland” Dr Uhlrich Abel, Stuttgart, 1990

Cancer Book Update

Cancer is no longer a “death sentence” and can be cured naturally without the killing side-effects of cytotoxic chemotherapy, surgery or radiation.

Hello to the readers of my book “The Cure & Cause of Cancer”: an alternative holistic approach to heal cancer.

The main reasons for the important updates in my book:

1) I have included powerful herbs for cancer which are natural substitutes for the intake of hydrazine sulfate, an MAO inhibitor medication.

I have been to my native country, Philippines, for four months (December till March, 2013) to research material for my book “The Cure & Cause of Cancer” and I have found powerful herbs used by Filipinos such as Pau d’ Arco (Taheebo), Turmeric, angiogenesis inhibitor, and Guyabano (Graviola) as their main herbs used for alternative cancer therapy. These three herbs together with Cessiac and Chaparral mentioned in the book should not be taken with MAO inhibitor medications and other medications. Guyabano‘s (Graviola) leaves and fruit grown in the Philippines is a miracle cancer cure according to the Filipinos I have interviewed. The main reason is that graviola is an effective cancer fighter stems from a research (published in 2008) conducted at the Purdue University’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences on the unique substances known as annonaceous acetogenins that have been extracted from the graviola tree.

The Purdue investigators found these substances to be potent inhibitors of cancer cells while leaving normal cells alone. They also found the compounds to be effective against drug-resistant cancer cells.

Study Abstract: The “Annonaceous Acetogenins” are promising new antitumor agents that are found only in the plant family Annonaceae. Chemically, they are derivatives of long-chain fatty acids. Biologically, they exhibit their potent bioactivities through depletion of ATP levels via inhibiting complex I of mitochondria and inhibiting the NADH oxidase of plasma membranes of tumor cells. Thus, they thwart ATP-driven resistance mechanisms.

According to Dr. Joseph Gold, the developer of hydrazine sulfate, “Effective cancer control may lie, rather, with therapy of the ‘shift’ to glycolysis, than with tumor therapy, potentially obviating such developments as drug resistance and major drug toxicity. In this regard it is recognized that not only can the “metabolic shift to enhanced glycolysis” provide a basis for cancer treatment but that discovery of the regulatory mechanism(s) underlying this metabolic shift may be essential to the future development of anti-cancer therapy.”

Does Guyabano Cure Cancer?

When someone with a Peabody Award like Jessica Soho reports on it, the more reason do I give the report credence because, as a Filipino myself, I personally know this GMA International reporter. And no one is selling anything which makes a legitimate news report. GMA reported that Soursop or Guyabano (also known as the Graviola fruit) has treated Cancer.

Guyabano or Soursop (Annona muricata Linnaeus) which is called Guyabano in the Philippines while in some countries they call this Guanabana or Graviola in Spanish. Guyabano consumption together with healthy eating, acupuncture, acupressure, herbs, meditation, Qigong and lifestyle change is an alternative holistic approach to heal cancer – as shown in my updated book The Cure & Cause of Cancer – without the cytotoxic and even more killing side-effects of conventional chemotherapy and synthetic medication.

Why Guyabano works biologically and biochemically? The idea that graviola is an effective cancer fighter stems from a research (published in 2008) conducted at the Purdue University’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences on the unique substances known as annonaceous acetogenins that have been extracted from the graviola tree.

Who were healed by this? There is Ernesto Lojo who was suffering from stage 4 prostate Cancer. His doctor gave up on him so he went to the “folk doctor” (village holistic medicine man) who recommended that he eat the fruit and boil the leaves and make it into a tea. He did as the “medicine man” told him and after two months he claimed he felt better. He had lab tests done and there was no more malignant Cancer cells in his body. The news about him spread like a virus and Rosita Resinto decided to try it for her goiter and she was cured.

GMA reporter Jessica Soho heard the story and decided to do an investigative report on it. He contacted Ernesto’s doctor at the PGH (Philippine General Hospital) Dr Jose Lorenzo La Pena, an otolaryngologist, who showed the before and after Cat Scans. De La Pena was very careful, however, to say that though this “miracle” happened to Ernesto, he cannot explain why and neither does he think that Guyabano is an all cure for everything.

Further investigation was when a doctor, Dr. Jose Hernandez, discovered he had prostate Cancer in 2009 and had an operation which only left him too weak to have chemotherapy. Then he also decided on the Guyabano treatment saying, “I was so desperate, if they told me to drink my urine then, I would have done it because I wanted to live.. then I tried the Guyabano”. He took the Guyabano fruit like a smoothie 3x a day and was healed. He said, “I fully recovered from a terminal stage of Cancer but even when I tell my colleagues that they refuse to believe me.”

Other doctors told him that could have worked for him but they added that “these are the times when what we need is called evidence-based medicine and in the case of the Guyabano or Graviola there seems to be NO strong scientific explanation why it works and these are only purely coincidental.”

Neng Tiwana, a radio announcer, suffered from myoma (uterine fibroid). Doctor advised her to undergo surgical operation but she declined because she was afraid of the operation cost. She took a herbal remedy especially the Guyabano as treatment. Her bleeding and fever stop and finally cured.

Many more followed rather than spend money for Chemotherapy and most did get well on the Guyabano treatment.

The cure and cause of cancer is within you. The cause of cancer is a weakening of your immune system (Wei Qi) which is termed Chronic Immune (Wei) Dysfunction Syndrome (CIDS). I will elaborate more on this theory and you will know why Traditional Chinese Medicine works.

Review: The Cure & Cause of Cancer

Cancer is a scary word. I’ve had relatives who have died from various types of cancer, and it is a diagnosis that often strikes fear into the hearts and souls of those who receive it. Yet, of course, not everyone who is diagnosed with cancer dies from it, and it’s often treatable in its early stages. Also, many people have had success treating their cancers in a holistic manner, using alternative medical practices. Some of these alternative practices are gone into at some length in Ricardo Serrano’s latest book, The Cure & Cause of Cancer.

I am not saying that if you have cancer, you should turn your back on Western medical practices and ignore what your doctor tells you, and I don’t think that the author is saying that, either, with his book. But, as many people have had varying degrees of success following the holistic approach to combating cancer that the author lays out, I think if anything, it wouldn’t hurt to give this approach a chance, along with following whatever advice your doctor gives you.

Serrano has noted, among other things, that chemotherapy destroys healthy cells as well as cancer cells. This can leave a person more susceptible to getting diseases, and pneumonia, that can be life-threatening. Instead of resorting to the use of chemotherapy, Serrano states: “Effective cancer control may lie, rather, with therapy of the ‘shift’ to glycolysis, than with tumor therapy, potentially obviating such developments as drug resistance and major drug toxicity.”

While Serrano mentions other holistic practices that can aid in fighting against cancer, like the qigong style or practice known as Pan Gu Shen Gong, he recommends that people diagnosed with cancer should “use hydrazine sulfate as soon as possible.” Doing this prevents the cancer cells from using the glucose present in your cells to grow.

The use of hydrazine sulfate and the reasons why it is a potentially beneficial alternative to chemotherapy is gone into in great detail in Serrano’s book. Other treatments he mentions to aid in preventing you from getting cancer and which are useful in assisting those who have cancer in their recovery include: “alkaline ionized water, Cessiac Yuccalive herbal formulas, Reishi mushrooms, and the Budwig diet.” Serrano has gone into the Budwig diet in one of his previous books, but in this book, he relates it directly to how being on the diet can help one prevent cancer.

1931 was an important year in cancer research. As the author writes, “Otto Warburg received the Nobel Prize for his demonstration that cancer cells utilize a process known as glycolysis as their chief means of energy production.” Glycolysis, Warburg discovered, “acted in a two-fold manner in cancer: as a source of energy production for the tumor,” and “as a pacemaker for cancer cachexia – the weight loss and bodily debilitation causally associated with more than two-thirds of cancer deaths.”

All of this medical jargon might seem odd to some people who associate the idea of using “holistic healing practices,” with New Age mysticism and mumbo-jumbo. Personally, I feel that much of what Ricardo Serrano has written about in his previous books, which I’ve reviewed here, is very beneficial. The knowledge of the ancients and of cultures around the world, ranging from qigong practices to yoga to meditation, acupuncture, etc., etc., has stood the test of time. They are all very important and can aid in one’s well-being and in the healing of various disorders.

In The Cure & Cause of Cancer, Serrano has shown that he has done his research into not only the holistic practices and wisdom of the ancients in dealing with cancer, but also at Western approaches. I saw what effect chemotherapy had on my own father, first-hand. Who knows if this book had been around at the time he came down with lung cancer, whether it might have helped to prolong his life–as it is, I’ll never know. But, the theory behind starving cancer cells of the glucose they need to grow and reproduce by the use of hydrazine sulfate is, I believe, one that has definite merit to it. If readers combine that with the other treatments Serrano mentions, they just might find the results are more than they could hope to achieve by chemotherapy. If you are interested in reading a highly intriguing book about the causes and cures for cancer, I highly recommend that you check out The Cure & Cause of Cancer by Ricardo B. Serrano, R.Ac.

Book Review: Oneness with Shiva

Reinforce and reinvigorate your Inner Guru, and become spiritually and physically healthier and wiser! But, how can I do this, you might well ask; how can I obtain the wisdom of the ages, of many diverse cultures and religions throughout history in one convenient place? I’m glad you asked that – the answer, Young Grasshoppers, is really quite simple. You have two choices – you can spend years, nay, decades, reading ancient and modern tomes on these subjects, and spend years/decades training to achieve your desired goal; or, read and practice the lessons and advice given in Acharya (just Ricardo on the covers of some of his books) B. Serrano’s informative series of books on these subjects, like his latest, Oneness with Shiva! What could be simpler than that, and also more beneficial to your health and well-being?

Oneness with Shiva is a supplementary book to Return to Oneness with Shiva, though one doesn’t need to have read the latter book to get a lot of value from reading the former. However, I’d recommend reading both, and the entire series, if you really want to get the most benefits and knowledge about how to promote your own well-being, both spiritually and physically.

Do you want to know more information about holistic healing, and a greater awareness of your place in the Universe? If you follow the wise advice offered in these volumes, these things and more will be yours. The author combines the wisdom of the religions and philosophical beliefs of countries like India and China with those of Judaism and Christianity, in an incomparable blend that incorporates the wisdom of both the East and the West.

What, exactly, are some of the topics Ricardo Serrano covers in Oneness with Shiva? The topics include what the Siddha Path is, what Kundalini or Shakti Awakening is, the Wei Qi Field and how it relates to Qigong, and what Sheng Zhen is, and how each influences us on a daily basis, whether or not we know what they are.

I’ll briefly go into a couple of these topics, as the words used like “Siddha Path” and “Kundalini” might be previously unheard of by some readers of this review. The Siddha Path, if I understand it correctly, presents “a practical psychology of liberation.” It’s based on the Sutras or teachings and knowledge of Shiva, handed down through generations of Siddhas and Gurus. Knowledge of the Sutras helps to lead to self-awareness, and that God is everywhere, even in ourselves.

Kundalini can be thought of as the secret of life, in a way. It is Shakti, or supreme energy, “whom the sages of India worship as the mother of the universe.” In a religious sense, Shakti was the consort of Shiva, and she “is the active aspect of the formless, attributeless Absolute.” The nature of Shakti is that she “is the supreme creative power of the Absolute Being.” There is much, much more to the topic and the definition of what Kundalini Awakening is than what I’ve described, but I will leave it to you to read more about it, when you purchase this book.

Oneness with Shiva is an exceptional teaching tool that will help lead you to a greater self-awareness. It will also assist you in meditating on the self as the self, as the subtitle of the book states. If you are a fan of New Age literature, or desire to learn more about the religious and philosophical beliefs of India and the rest of the world, you owe it to yourselves to check out Oneness with Shiva by Acharya Ricardo B. Serrano, R.Ac. It is an excellent addition to the series, and it offers one much sage advice and wisdom in and of itself.
