Disciplining Your Mind to Become Better at Manifesting

A key to the intention-manifestation model is that you must keep your thoughts focused on what you want and avoid thinking about what you don’t want. Even if you’re skeptical about the power of intention, it shouldn’t be hard to see that a disciplined mind brings benefits. Improved mental discipline is sure to be a useful skill regardless of your current model of reality. It’s hard enough to achieve goals via direct action if your mind is cluttered with negative or distracting thoughts. But with intention-manifestation, it’s nearly impossible.

I’ve found that in order to improve my results with this model, I’ve had to put significant effort into disciplining my mind. I consider this time well spent, regardless of the outcome.

Yesterday I saw the movie Peaceful Warrior, which is based on The Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman (one of my favorite books). In the movie there’s a scene where Dan is able to hear his friends’ mental chatter. Even as they’re preparing to practice their gymnastics routines, their minds are filled with distracting fears and worries. When Dan is able to clear his mind of all distractions, he performs at his best, and in the end he attracts what he wants.

Even as you read this article now, what other thoughts are passing through your mind? Is 100% of your attention focused on reading this, or is your consciousness split? Is any part of your mind churning over work-related issues, emotional stress, physical discomfort or hunger, noise from the next room, or past or future events? It’s often the case that less than 50% of our attention is directed to the task at hand. That isn’t focus — that’s blur.

When our mind is cluttered and we attempt to introduce new intentions, it’s like throwing pebbles into a stormy sea. The ripples will still occur, but they’ll just be absorbed. The calmer we can make our background thoughts, the cleaner will be our intentions’ ripples, and the more readily they’ll manifest.

I think anyone who’s attempted intention-manifestation in earnest can attest to the difficulty of staying focused. How can you hold a thought of financial abundance without succumbing to worries about paying the bills? How can you focus on attracting a new relationship when you still harbor thoughts of being alone? How can you manifest health when you keep thinking about your ailments? In my opinion you can’t… at least not right away.

I think a good solution to these problems is to build your mental discipline, your ability to stay focused on whatever it is you consciously decide to think about. We spend a lot of time thinking, but how much effort do we put into consciously managing our thoughts? How skilled are you at choosing your thoughts?

If you decide to think about a lemon, surely you can do so. The mere suggestion may bring that thought into your mind. But what if I asked you to allow no thoughts of fruit other than lemons to enter your mind for the next 30 days? Could you do it?

Now what if after issuing this challenge, I come to you and say, “Don’t think about an orange… or an apple… or a bunch of grapes. Don’t even imagine them. Don’t even read about them.” You’ve already failed, haven’t you?

But what if you took this challenge seriously? What if you didn’t need to be absolutely perfect, but you wanted to ensure that during the next 30 days, of all the time you spent thinking about fruit, at least 90% of it was focused on lemons? Could you do it? How?

Of course instead of lemons, you can substitute whatever it is you wish to manifest. Suppose you want to manifest financial abundance. Of all the financial and money-related thoughts that go through your mind over the next 30 days, what can you do to ensure that at least 90% of them are in harmony with financial abundance?

I’ve been considering this question, and I’ve come up with a number of practices that have been very helpful in keeping my thoughts focused on what I want and away from what I don’t want:

Giving up TV. If you want to stay focused on what you do want, it would be wise to start blocking sources that flood your mind with thoughts of what you don’t want. TV is filled with negative images, especially TV news programs, so it’s a prime killer of positive intentions. I’ve noticed that after doing without it for about four weeks now, my thinking has become noticeably more focused. I’m technically still doing my 30-day trial, but I see no reason to re-addict myself when the trial ends.
Consciously focusing attention on the task at hand. Throughout the day I try to perform a few tasks with 100% of my attention on what I’m doing. When lifting weights at the gym, I focus on the current muscle group I’m training. When eating a meal, I focus on the taste and texture of the food. When driving I focus all my attention on controlling the car. This means staying in the present moment, not thinking about the end of the workout, the work I’ll be doing after the meal, or my driving destination. This not only improves my concentration, but the secondary benefit is that it keeps my mind off of would-be negative thoughts that might creep in while I’m not paying attention. If I’m thinking about the weight I’m lifting, I know I’m not accidentally thinking about financial lack.
Index of distraction tests. Occasionally I test myself to see how long I can hold a single thought in my head without experiencing a distracting thought. This is a great exercise for raising your awareness of just how easily your mind can drift. The first time I did this, I lasted only seconds. It took a lot of practice just to reach three minutes. Try this for yourself to see how long you can last, and train yourself up to improve your concentration endurance. Just start a timer and imagine something simple like a lemon. Hold the original thought of the lemon as long as possible. If any non-lemon thought breaks into your awareness for even a split second, stop the timer. The elapsed time is your score.
Focused environment. Creating a relaxing workspace reduces stress, which makes it easier to concentrate on what is desired instead of worrying about what isn’t. A clutter-free environment is particularly important, since the sight of clutter can trigger distracting thoughts. Even photographs should be used sparingly if they tend to distract you when you look at them.
Improving finances first. I find it much easier to concentrate on what I want when my finances are in good order. Unpaid bills, debt, and financial lack can be an enormous distraction, making it incredibly difficult to focus on what you want. Erin and I currently enjoy a situation where our monthly income is more than double our expenses, so our basic needs are easily met. Our financial situation was the first area where we began consciously using intention-manifestation, and we’ve been delighted with the results. As we see it, the main benefit isn’t material wealth because neither of us are particularly materialistic. The primary benefit is that we eliminate financial lack as a distraction, which makes it easier to focus even more attention on our other intentions, especially those that are much more important to us than money.
Setting aside time for conscious intending. Simply increasing the amount of time spent thinking about your intentions is beneficial. I currently spend about 20-30 minutes a day thinking about what I want. I pick a few intentions and let my imagination chew on them for a while. If the intention-manifestation model is accurate, I believe I should see an improvement in the success of my manifestations. And in fact, there are already indications that this is working. Perhaps the most noticeable is that the pace of change Erin and I experience in our lives has increased dramatically. Life is moving much faster now than it was last year, almost like our goals are racing toward us. If we simply compare our lives today with how they were a couple months ago, the difference is monstrous.
Recreation. Even simple recreation is helpful because it helps you focus on something positive, which at least helps prevent you from succumbing to fear and worry. I’ve been playing disc golf with a friend lately (early in the morning before it gets too hot), and even though I’m not thinking about what I want, I’m definitely not putting any mental energy into fueling my problems. My mind is on the game and the conversation.
Sex. Consider this a subset of recreation. It’s hard to think of something better at eliminating negative thoughts than sex (unless you really have it bad and start worrying about how you look naked or how you’ll perform). And after sex when your mind is calm and relaxed is a great time to put out some new intentions, or even discuss some of your desires out loud with your partner and intend them together. You heard it here first!

I’m sure if you give it some thought, you can come up with your own processes that help you to 1) spend more time thinking about what you desire, and 2) spend less time thinking about what you don’t want. In fact, the whole second half of the book Ask and It Is Given covers 22 different processes you can use, many of which are very simple, such as cutting out pictures of your intentions and putting them in a box.

I still consider myself a baby at intention-manifestation, but I’m immensely pleased with the results I’ve been getting so far, more than enough to justify the time I’ve put into it. I’ve been seeing across-the-board improvements in my life since I started experimenting with this. Compared to just six months, my income and net worth have gone up significantly, I have a new car, my web site traffic has doubled, I’m more physically fit (faster and stronger), my relationship with Erin is better than ever, I’m happier, my motivation is sky-high, my social life has improved, my purpose is even more clear, my intuition is more accurate, and I’m having more fun and finally enjoying some vacation trips. Some stagnant areas have finally come unstuck and are moving forward again. Without a doubt the past six months have been the most positive and growth-producing of my adult life, and I know Erin will say the same is true for her. So it’s rather easy for me to justify continuing to put more energy into these experiments. Even though intention-manifestation can require a massive belief restructuring to successfully utilize, I think it’s well worth the effort. I can’t say I fully understand the mechanism by which it works, but that doesn’t prevent me from continuing to test it.

Can being sound in health make you wealthy? It follows that in order to enjoy one you would want the other and vice versa. Most proponents of the way to wealth from a mind, body, and spirit approach may not realize they use this as their mantra.

The way to wealth using a mind, body, and spirit approach might be easier on the nerves than 24/7 aggression. Steady progress towards achievable goals is easier on the mind and spirit, not to mention the body. Stress wears people out and tears them up inside.

The way to wealth may not be as swift as most people would like. But for the body life is a long journey and the health of the mind and spirit must travel within. As many people soon learn, wealth does not exclude ill health or an unhealthy mind. Wealth does not prevent illness or mental instability.

What could be more tragic than amassing wealth to enjoy the beauty life offers, only to be frustrated by an unsound body or a mind that won't support healthy living? Therefore, it makes sense that the way to wealth uses a mind, body, and spirit approach.

The way to wealth takes hard work and dedication, and often sacrifice. All these factors can contribute to wear and tear on the body and mind. The pursuit of wealth can wear down the spirit. But often the spirit can inspire the body, and mental strength can inspire even weak-minded people to reach their goals.

The way to wealth is the subject of many books, and the motive of many people in life. Equally important is the maintenance of a healthy body, a robust spirit, and an active mind. Some people might view a healthy trinity of mind, body, and spirit as wealth in and of itself.

The way to wealth can change over time into an increased appreciation for other things. Many wealthy people would give everything they have to be healthy again, and many people with great intelligence wish their bodies were healthy enough to sustain longer life. So if wealth is the ownership of the rarest elements, then those in possession of a healthy body, spirit, and mind can be considered already wealthy.

The Oil Crisis IS a SCAM!

Mara's Legacy I've got a dear friend on MySpace who recently first told me about this and although I was skeptical, I kept an open mind. I went looking once and did not find anything useful that stood out, she even sent me a pointer and I still did not find what I was looking for. But I remained open and curious. Curiosity is a great thing, because it is a form of seeking and Life will deliver to you that which you seek.

The other day I found a video interview that you will see at the end of this blog. Some new key words came to mind as I watched it and I did a Google search and found a wealth of information. Seek and you will find!

Did you know that Dinosaurs lived on Titan? Titan is one of the moons of Saturn? Or perhaps fossil fuels are not really fossil fuels at all. Science has been known to get it wrong. Popular opinion has been known to be a myth…you do know that the world used to be square don't you? It somehow magically became round when enough people decided it was round…true story! ;^)

Okay enough of the cheek! Let's take oil…did you know that old oil wells that have been capped up and left alone have replenished themselves? Yes, it is true, it has happened on this planet. This has been discovered recently when they went back to some old wells, they were refilled. The USA actually has plenty of oil to sustain most of our own needs and there are many new sources of oil being discovered all over the world.

The facts about oil seem to point to this…The earth produces plenty of oil to handle our needs. Of course anything that has a plentiful supply costs less. Does it surprise you that some corporate and government officials might be corrupt and yanking our chains for a profit? Did you know while we are paying astronomical sums of money for gas/petrol the oil companies are raking in the largest profits in history?

I have always wondered why the rich oil companies have not done a serious job of reinvested their funds into alternative energy sources. I mean it only makes sense to do that. Power is power. If they supply power through oil, or if they supply it through other renewable means, they still get paid…right? So again my curiosity has been satisfied! The reason they are not going after other ways is because they know the oil crisis is a farce. The oil crisis is manufactured so that they can raise their profits, and so that they can gain control of a frightened world!

Okay so this is a big topic, open for a lot of debate, and debate about this issue is NOT what I am interested in. Do your own research. Do not rely on only one source to tell you how much oil, or food, or water is left for us to share. If you EDUCATE YOURSELF you can eliminate your worries and fears about these concerns. Truth is truth and debating truth is pointless.

So what happens if we just keep on burning that oil as gasoline? Pollution right? There are ways to get around that by burning a small amount of hydrogen gas in our engines with the gasoline! By doing that it burns the gasoline more efficiently and it also significantly reduces the pollutants. And the hydrogen gas can be generated from water as the car is driven.

The Sleepless Ponderings of "One Intent"

Hey Everybody,

Just wanted to take some time out and touch base with the masses,
well, not the masses really..."just you".

I have to say, I hope they approve cloning soon, I need about a
dozen more of me to stay on top of everything going on. I don’t
know though, some would say that one is far more than enough
already. Maybe I would agree at times, I’ve fired myself several
times already. But "I" don’t pay unemployment so "I" had to go
crawling back. You’ve heard of "never employ a family member",
well, employing yourself is a whole other ballgame.

My computer screens seem to pick up all the dust in the air and evenly
spread it across my view, so that websites begin to take on unique
views of their very own sometimes.
Makes it easy to sometimes "miss the point" in some post when reading,
as some have said...lol

I finally reached over and broke out the glass cleaner when I realized
I had taken all I could and cleaned all of them. Just in case you
don’t know, glass cleaner sends out some kind of call that a "new"
place is awaiting any dust who hadn’t found a place to reside yet,
so had put it off for awhile. A social program for wayward dust I’m
not running...

Which leads me to something else entirely, but not really.
I had to roll back Windows to a few days ago because of some crap
somewhere on one of the computers, that when I try to install a newer
version of an older virus scanner, I first have to uninstall the
older one...which in doing so, let’s "something" out of it’s
container it was put in, so I get that old "you must be signed in
as an administrator" to do that kind of thing. Da....I’m sitting right
here, you can’t sign on otherwise...I AM THAT I AM the Administrator
dagnabbit.

Anyway...so I roll back a few days to correct that....being told
"you ain’t the one" just $^%$$&* me off to no end. But then I noticed
something else entirely..."everything" rolls back to the way it was
days before. That would be days before I cleaned my screens of dust...
I know your thinking...."that’s impossible". Well, "it ain’t
impossible",
cause I’m gonna have to clean the blame things again!

So be very careful if you ever have to roll back to an earlier date
on any of your computers...."everything changes". My wife was there
one minute, and back at work the previous Friday next.
"Deva vu’. But then, this "ability" could have it’s "uses".

By the way...you can get a great virus scanner free at
http://download.com
just put in AVG Free Edition. It might tell you, but it don’t care
if you have other virus/security software or not. It finds stuff the
others can’t or won’t. There’s also a great free online scanning
engine at http://trendmicro.com . Just click on "Housecall" and let it run.

Thinking about putting together a subscription list for mailing out
all the great things I come across everyday...if there’s enough interest
in such a thing. thinking....

It’s my version of a social network covering the interest of
mind, body, spirit, living on love, healing, and all the way to,
alternative living, energy, medicines & treatments, foods, building,
and more. It’s not to "take the place" of any "other space" or network
but more of a "streamlined" addition to networking with "like minded"
people, and of course, friends.

I said it’s new. I’m still dreaming, and having nightmares in "code".
You can do a lot there now, like sign up, and set up a profile. I’m
working on getting custom profiles installed, bulletins, and lots of
the "stuff your used to". But that’s time, money and just me, for
the most part.

Right now there’s profiles, pictures, messenger styled chat,
classifieds, groups, blogs, audio/video styled chat, chatroom, music,
events, articles, boards, even forums, but I’m not so impresses with
those right now and the "ajax" system...I may decide to cross over and use phpBB to go with it..we’ll see.

You can send mail, invite friends, set up a group, use the blogs.
Things I’m looking to add on are:

Private Messenger, Top Friends Creator, YouTube Module, Flickr Module,
CSS-HTML In Profiles, Chat In Groups, Bulletins, Profile Builder,
Social Networks Inviter, and a lot more [big list in profile view
on the site explains more.

At any rate, go over and check it out if you like..but that’s where
most of my time has been spent...as well as lots of sleepless
nights.

Also, putting together a show @ nowlive.com, a internet
radio, chat, live, call in show, that will be in relation to the site
as I can get it going right. Maybe have you guys call in or just hang
out from time to time and "talk stuff" related to what we post and

Now sitting up some "autoresponder" stuff and want to take
this opportunity to offer to anyone, who is now, or wants to offer any
free mini or regular courses and needs set up to do this easily.

I can take your materials and insert into the system and all you’ll
have to do is list the address for the "content". It will then be
sent out "fresh" and regularly as you like.

Usually this has a price and even restrictions with companies who
have this service for you...but I’m offering it FREE. Well, I say free.
It will cost you the time to send me the material the way you want
them to go out, and I’ll put a few lines near the bottom, kind of
a link back to the intentionalone.com site. That’s it. And we both can
offer a wonderful thing to many others. Simple enough. Oh, and maybe
you become a free member/friend over at intentionalone.com too .

I started to add ’I’m sorry for a little "self promoting" but then,
it’s not really...it’s one more way...several actually, for you
to promote yourself, your message, your connections.

So, I hope that covers my butt for the lack of "incredible",
"inspiring", "completely off the charts", "needed that now" kinds of
post you haven’t been getting recently.

Breakfast at McDonald's This is a good story and is true, please read it all the way through until the end! (After the story, there are some very interesting facts!): I am a mother of three (ages 14, 12, 3) and have recently completed my college degree. The last class I had to take was Sociology. The teacher was absolutely inspiring with the qualities that I wish every human being had been graced with. Her last project of the term was called, 'Smile.' The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and document their reactions. I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say hello anyway. So, I thought this would be a piece of cake, literally. Soon after we were assigned the project, my husband, youngest son, and I went out to McDonald's one crisp March morning. It was just our way of sharing special playtime with our son. We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then even my husband did. I did not move an inch... an overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as I turned to see why they had moved As I turned around I smelled a horrible 'dirty body' smell, and there standing behind me were two poor homeless men. As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was 'smiling.' His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of God's Light as he searched for acceptance. He said, 'Good day' as he counted the few coins he had been clutching. The second man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his friend. I realized the second man was mentally challenged and the blue-eyed gentleman was his salvation. I held my tears as I stood there with them. The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted. He said, 'Coffee is all Miss' because that was all they could afford. (If they wanted to sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had to buy something. He just wanted to be warm). Then I really felt it - the compulsion was so great I almost reached out and embraced the little man with the blue eyes. That is when I noticed all eyes in the restaurant were set on me, judging my every action. I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me two more breakfast meals on a separate tray. I then walked around the corner to the table that the men had chosen as a resting spot. I put the tray on the table and laid my hand on the blue-eyed gentleman's cold hand. He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, 'Thank you.' I leaned over, began to pat his hand and said, 'I did not do this for you. God is here working through me to give you hope.' I started to cry as I walked away to join my husband and son. When I sat down my husband smiled at me and said, 'That is why God gave you to me, Honey, to give me hope.' We held hands for a moment and at that time, we knew that only because of that which we had been given were we able to give. We were learning as we went, giving - is receiving. That day showed me the real and true powers of Love. I returned to college, on the last evening of class, with this story in hand. I turned in 'my project' and the instructor read it. Then she looked up at me and said, 'Can I share this?' I slowly nodded as she got the attention of the class. She began to read and that is when I knew that we as human beings and being part of God share this need to heal people and to be healed. We ARE those who receive from us. We are the true receivers, of our giving. In my own way I had touched the people at McDonald's, my son, instructor, and every soul that shared the classroom on the last night I spent as a college student. I graduated with one of the biggest lessons I would ever learn: UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE. Much love and compassion is sent to each and every person who may read this and learn how to LOVE PEOPLE AND USE THINGS - NOT LOVE THINGS AND USE PEOPLE. There is an Angel sent to watch over you. In order for her to work, you must pass this on to the people you want watched over. An Angel wrote: Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart. To handle yourself, use your head. To handle others, use your heart. God Gives every bird it's food, but He does not throw it into its nest. So If You Are Walking Thru A Big Pile Of Cosmic Dung

Do Not Blame The Holy Cow

In our lives there are many doorways of change we would like to enter, but like the old hermit in his cave we await the sign from above to move into that place of destined change. At what point does the external sign shift the outcome? Why do we wait for external sources to command our attention and only then make our move toward destined change?

Can we become the sign we so desperately seek? As humans we seem to need confirmation from on high that our choices are politically correct, we need an cosmic OK to move ahead. As humans we are so connected on a cellular level that we sometimes need to group with another to open the portal of possibility. Our energies emulsify with one another in agreement or disagreement to either open a portal or close a possibility.

When two or more are gathered in energy and heart the universe will unfold exposing soft skin and lift them to a place of miracles. This is a time of whipping up some home made miracles for each other with home baked intention as the main ingredient. Softly helping others kneed their desired outcome.

This is a time of deep reflection into a pool of possibility. Each situation in your daily life will touch you deeper and deeper. You can verbally discount the sadness of another but we all know that the energy of 'one for all and all for one' is not just for three musketeers. We as a planet and a collective unit of light are energetically 'our brother's keeper' whether we want to be or not. As a species created in the image of God we are vibrationally and biologically connected for it can be no other way.

As the light energy steadily increases in pressure and position we will find many who cannot adjust to this change that is driven by human needs and wants. Emotions will float to the surface like old treasures that were once hidden. Playing into another's dialogue will only clip your wings of light. Wishing a disagreeable person the very best will unplug you from their grid of negativity. Like attracts like, so if you are walking thru a big pile of cosmic dung do not blame the holy cow.

Ten Principles To Creating Lasting Change In Your Life

Creating lasting change is something many of us find difficult. If it was so easy none of us would need to lose weight, or keep smoking despite wanting to give it up, or continue to have disastrous relationships, or work too hard, or continue to make New Year's resolutions which they fail to keep.

How often have you decided you need to do something to change your life, go on a diet, meet more people, give up listening to that negative voice in your head or cut down on your work commitments to find yourself opening the biscuit barrel or booking another appointment almost immediately.

How often do you find yourself thinking I've broken my resolution so I might as well have another..?

Creating lasting change is so much easier if you stick to the principles outlined below.

1) Be clear about what you want to change and why

Understand what is going well in your life. What is it you want more of? What is it you hate about your life and want to change? What difference would the change make to your life if you achieved it? The most dramatic changes happen when "shoulds" become "musts".

2) Believe it is possible to make the change.

Think about other examples within your life of how you have succeeded in changing. Many of the changes seemed impossible – yet you did it.

3) Set clear, specific goals.

The more specific you are about what it is you want to do the easier it is to plan how to do it and to measure your success once you have achieved it.

4) Imagine Your Success is a reality.

Imagine yourself at a time in the future when you have succeeded in making the change.

How is it different? How do you feel about the fact you have succeeded? Remember nothing succeeds like success. Use yours to help you believe you can make this future change.

5) You get what you focus on.

If you want a brilliant relationship but you only focus on work or financial success you are far less likely to achieve a brilliant relationship. Set aside time and energy to make things happen.

6) Take action

Things will not change unless you make the decision to do things differently. Many of us do the single grand gesture and then loose interest. It is the small actions taken consistently which make a sustained difference.

7) Ask for help

We have no hesitation in calling for a car mechanic or heating engineer when we want to sort our car or our heating out yet when we want to make fundamental changes to our lives we try to do it alone.

Work with a coach, a personal trainer or mentor. They can help you clarify your thinking, set goals, plan how to achieve them and hold you accountable for the choices you make. If you think it too expensive think of the cost to the quality of your life of not achieving your desired outcome.

8) Surround yourself with positive people

If you want to give up something, drinking, smoking perhaps you will find it easier to spend time with people who do not smoke or drink heavily. If you want to do something seek those who do it already and model their behaviours.

9) Maintain the pace

What action can you take today to start your journey to success? Remember even the longest journeys start with the first step. Where do you want to be in 4 weeks time, in three months, by the end of the year? Set milestones so you can measure your progress. Make them achievable but with a level of challenge. If you experience a set back recalibrate your milestones rather than give up.

10) Celebrate your success

Celebrate each small victory. Create celebrations which support rather than work against your goal. Positive reinforcement is a powerful motivator.
